Work Text:

“We shouldn’t let him wander off like that Moony”

“Well you were supposed to look after him”

“So were you”

“You should have just left him in the play area”

“That is a good idea, but I highly doubt that they would let a 28-year-old stay there Harry”

Remus Lupin smiled down at his godson as the two tried to find the most notorious idiot in the entire world, Sirius Black aka Remus’ husband and Harrys godfather. The three had gone to IKEA to get Harry a new bed due to his old one was getting too small for the nine-year-old. Remus questioned the scenario they were in right in this second. Out of two grown men and an energetic boy, shouldn’t the boy be the one go missing?

‘That would nearly be easier’ Remus thought to himself. Harry was a smart boy who would know what to do. Did Sirius know? Was he aware of what to do when someone, usually a kid, got lost in a muggle store? Remus was usually the one going shopping with Harry due to Sirius working. Remus had a hard time keeping a job due to his lycanthropy. Many people in the wizarding world didn’t trust him due to it, and Remus doubted anyone in the muggle world would accept someone that needed to be away multiple times a month. Sirius was of course supportive that if Remus ever wanted to get a job, he was going to help him if it so meant killing someone, Sirius’ words, not his. The three didn’t exactly have it hard though, much thanks to the Blacks vault. Sirius couldn’t think of a better way to spend that money than on his werewolf husband and their godson. Remus knew that Sirius wasn’t working because they needed the money, but because he loved his job as an auror, and Remus wasn’t going to stop him. Remus himself spent his days at home, it could be boring, but it also meant he could spend a lot of time with Harry. The two would do Harry’s homework, cook and very often visit the local library, Remus was overjoyed that Harry seemed to love books just as he himself did.

Harry was put in their care after their so-called friend Peter Pettigrew had betrayed them, told Voldemort where Lily and James had been hiding and gone after them. Lily and James lost their lives that day but Harry had survived.
Peter had been thrown into Azkaban while Voldemort did, well you know what happened to him. Sirius and Remus had fought for the custody of Harry. Dumbledore had insisted on that it was better giving the baby to Lily’s sister Petunia and her family, claiming that was the best way keeping him safe. With some weird compromising with Minerva on their side, the tiny family moved into Privet drive 5.

“For how long have we been here Harry?” Remus answered, slowly massaging his forehead.

“About ten minutes” Harry said, checking the time on the clock he had gotten last Christmas.

“Oh Merlin”

Remus continued to hold Harrys hand as the two walked past chairs, beds and tables, all with weird names, but no Sirius. Remus had prayed they had been lucky and would find the man in one of the many decorated rooms, planning yet another redecorating of their home. Of course not he wasn’t there. That would have been simple, and Sirius Lupin was never simple.

“Uncle Moony, maybe he’s at the restaurant. He likes the meatballs” Harry advised. Remus nodded

“it’s as possible as anything else” he said and the two made their way towards the bustling restaurant.

The restaurant was full of families with kids screaming, tired parents and old retired couples which most didn’t seemed keen on the other two categories. Remus gripped Harrys hand tighter, hoping that he wasn’t breaking a bone in it, and started to make his way through the crowds. Some people muttered insults at him as the two passed through the tight mass. He muttered apology while his eyes darted over the whole sitting area after Sirius and back at Harry to make sure the boy was keeping up. Multiple times he was sure he saw his husband only for it to be a middle-aged mom or a punk rocker who when he made eye contact with Remus for a split second, looked like he could beat him up with his left hand.

As Remus was planning what was going to be said on his gravestone, a metallic scrape was heard from the speakers quickly followed by a voice;

“Could Moony and Prongslet please come to customer service, where Padfoot will be waiting for you, once again that’s Moony and Prongslet to customer service, Padfoot is waiting for you”. The voice, sounding female, had absolutely butchered each nickname but there was no doubt, it was them.

“Looks like we know where to find him” Remus said, making Harry laugh. The two walked through the restaurant again, once again Remus apologising to each person they bumped into.
Finding customer service was easier said than done, after all this was IKEA. Remus let out a sigh of relief and let go of Harrys hand as they saw the desk and the person standing by it, having a conversation with the middle-aged woman standing behind it.

“Uncle Padfoot” Harry shouted, making the man turn over and immediately give the two a big smile.

“There you two are, where have you been?” Sirius asked as the two approached.

“Could ask you the same thing” Remus muttered but couldn’t help but smile as his husband leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

“I was just walking and it’s when I came to the rugs I realised you two weren’t there too” Sirius explained and he gave Harry a hug. Remus opened his mouth only to close it again, taking a deep breath.

“Pads, we came here to get a bed for Harry. The rugs are on the other side of the store” he finally said. Sirius nodded.

“I realized that, but don’t worry” he held up the IKEA catalogue that was laying on the costumer service desk “I’ve looked through this, and I have found a perfect bed for Harry, it’s like a bunkbed but with a desk under, and not only that Moony! I have found this perfect chair for the living room” he said, flipping through it. While Harry was laughing over the whole scene Remus just sighed before giving his husband a tired smile

“Merlin, you’re lucky I love you”
