Sides

Summary:

Carina and Maya talk after there was a fire at Grey-Sloan

Chapter Text

Maya stared at the hospital with creased eyebrows and a noticeable vein practically popping out of her forehead. She reached for her radio. "Gibson, Miller, I want you two to sweep the floor one more time."

Only one of the floors had caught fire - the OR floor. It was easily contained once the station arrived. "You got it Captain." Jack radio'd back quickly. Maya nodded to no one in particular and turned on her heel, speeding over to one of the many aid cars.

Sitting on the back of one was Carina, holding an oxygen mask to her mouth. Once she saw her wife she bent her head back a bit, not excited for the upcoming conversation. "Maya I had to give her a c-section-"

"Put the mask back on." Carina stared at her unbelievably, but then hesitantly put it back onto her mouth and took a deep breath. "You should've done it on the OB floor like Bailey said."

Maya felt her heart speed up the longer she studied her wife's features. The dark splotches on her cheeks and forehead, there was a small cut on her chin. She was positive there was more on her arms but they were covered up in a blanket. Carina put the mask down again "We're picking sides now?"

"There are no sides!"

"Maya she needed the surgery! Are you going to put me in time out next? Or maybe-"

"God Carina, no!" She reached out and grabbed the doctors wrist, forcing the mask back onto her face. "If you want to talk about sides I'm on the side that keeps you alive! Why can't you see that?"

"I am alive." Maya scoffed, she turned her entire body away for a moment before turning back over to the brunette. "That's not the point. It wasn't safe and you knew that. There were other options."

"Like letting that mama and her bambino die? I wouldn't have the right tools if some complications happened." Maya let out an exasperated sigh, shaking her head lightly. She shot her arm out, closing and opening her hand a few times.

"We would've figured it out! We have an aid car Carina! If you thought over everyth-"

"You're not going to blame me!" Carina stood up, the mask falling back to the aid car. "I would've been out sooner if you weren't screaming at me!" Maya's face scrunched up. She grabbed her wife's shoulders and gently pushed her to sit back down onto the aid car. Carina easily complied and grabbed the mask before Maya said anything about it.

"I just was-I am worried Carina." Her voice was softer "What if you had died in there?" Carina looked down to the ground with a long sigh. "I love you Car, I love you so much. But God that was stupid."

The Italians shoulders shook lightly as she chuckled. "I would do it again." She said through the oxygen mask. Maya gave a prompt nod, her lips curling up. "Yeah...yeah I know."

"Everything's clear Cap, we're heading down." her radio rang out. Maya gave her wife another look before reaching down for the radio "Copy that Gibson."

"After we get a few more things cleared up we have to go back to the station. Do you want to come with us? I can give you some extra clothes after a shower." Carina could tell by her wife's still clenched jaw that she was still upset with her.

Carina sucked on her teeth while she thought. Maya watched on patiently waiting for an answer. "Only if I can sleep in the captains bunk." There was a small smile on her lips, Maya's face didn't change.

"You've only ever slept in the captains bunk." She shrugged bluntly, she took a seat next to Carina. The doctor rolled her eyes "Keep that attitude up and I'll be the only one sleeping in the captains bunk."

This time, Maya's lips curled up. She reached over the woman next to her and put the mask back on for what seemed like the hundredth time. She pressed a kiss to the side of her head, right next to her ear.

"I love you, I love you so much." Carina smiled and put her head onto Maya's shoulder. She grabbed the blondes hand and rubbed the back of it with her thumb. "Ti amo, I guess there's enough room for two of us on that bed."
