The moon was shining brightly as the trees swayed a bit from the gentle wind blowing.
Just a bit of eerie whispers from around the place… and a car that seems to be running fast.
~~~
The beeping on her phone never stopped—messages from different people flooding while she only drove faster.
Faster. She needs to go somewhere.
Somewhere far.
Someplace where she could not feel anything—where she could forget the events that happened earlier in the party.
She kept driving, tears streaming down her face.
Like if she slowed down any minute, she’ll only feel everything and her numbness would stop.
That’s when—
Her eyes widened as she avoided the incoming truck, leading to something worse.
She, along with her car, ran through the rusty metal fence of the bridge—that separates the road and demise—falling off as she felt her world stop at that moment.
Only the deafening sound of her car rolling down the cliff until it stopped, glass shattering as well as some parts crumbling from such force were the only sound that she could hear.
Only her.
And the rest was up to imagination and nature who served as the witness of such terrible accident.
The morning was cold enough to make Eren lie down on his sofa while watching the TV—trying to entertain himself.
He kept switching the channels when he came across something.
News.
“The rusty fence that separates the gorge from this hillside road was seen broken—a severed car found along with a girl who must be the driver found last night at 11 pm.”
This had Eren's attention for a moment… wanting to know more.
Plus, he still needs to find Mikasa. She just disappeared without a trace after the party suddenly.
“The girl was immediately brought to the hospital—”
His phone then rang, grabbing it from the table to look who's calling.
Dad
He only sighed and answered—receiving a delighted greeting.
“What do you want, dad?” He only answered, not wanting to have some talks with him early in the morning when his father laughed it off—his tone then switching to a serious one.
“You’re watching the news?”
“Yeah, about a girl that got in an accident. And?”
He only received silence. Like his dad is starting to hesitate on something involving him.
He then sighed and started speaking.
“The girl… Eren, do you perhaps know her?”
“They didn’t show her face. Is it your patient?”
“Yeah… black hair, almost unidentifiable from the wounds all over her face. But she resembles someone you might know.”
“I might know? Who?”
“Well, considering her features… she’s Mikasa.”
This made Eren scoff.
Mikasa? How in the world? Or his dad must be lacking sleep to identify that girl like her.
“Dad. This is not the time for jokes. You must be lacking a lot of sleep you're confusing thi—”
“I'm serious, son. I may lack sleep, but it doesn’t hinder me from being able to identify the patient if they only look the same as your friends.”
Eren only inhaled… and exhaled.
“Thanks, dad. This was a really great joke.”
He ended the call and then decided to get a drink from the fridge.
Getting a can of coke, he then returned to the sofa and opened it while looking at the TV and continuing what he was doing earlier—that is… switching channels until he finds an entertaining one.
His phone buzzed—a message.
He only rolled his eyes and check whom it was from.
New message from Armin:
Bro. You need to go to the hospital your dad works ASAP.
He only replied to his message with a;
Dad must’ve told you to tell me. Armin this is not a great time to joke.
In a blink of an eye, he received a reply;
I'm at the hospital with Annie. He wasn’t kidding.
~~~
To be honest, he didn’t think that way.
He didn’t even know what happened to Mikasa after leaving.
After not answering his calls or messages.
After just… vanishing.
To think, what if it was true?
His heart suddenly beat faster—anxious about the thoughts that he kept at bay now overflowing his mind.
‘Stop it.’ He says to himself, hesitant to believe him—his best friend.
He looked at the clock on a column that quite separates the kitchen, the living room, and the stairs.
30 seconds.
30 seconds at least.
If he moves, then he'll be there.
If he doesn’t, then they’re all lying… right?
1…
2…
3…
4…
5—
He moved. He swiftly walked upstairs to his room to get ready and leave.
To go and see it for himself.
He grabbed his phone and keys and headed for his car in the parking area on the ground floor—immediately starting the engine and driving off.

“It’s alright…” Armin said comforting the blonde girl who was just sitting down—bent on her knees trying to calm herself.
They both heard footsteps going to them but Annie paid no mind so Armin was the only person to look who it was—eyes widening.
“Eren…”
He halted and looked at him—unable to believe that—he was—indeed here with Annie.
Eren broke eye contact and continued slowly this time—like his feet are stalling to walk forward… to them.
Step by step, he could feel himself become more and more worried.
~~~
He was there.
He then asked;
“Is this…”
Armin only looked at him with a pained expression—knowing what he was about to ask, he nodded slowly making him look at the tiny window on the door of which seems to be her room, and the sight just… broke him.
Like seeing such sight just broke everything in him, his bones, his heart, his soul.
Because right there—through the window—he could see her unconscious body covered with bandages and stitches, her eyes closed.
He couldn’t believe it.
He felt his knees weaken—everything happening, in reality, hitting him like a damn train.
He felt quite mad—disappointed.
He looked at the two and asked, mustering all his strength for his voice not to falter.
“How—”
Annie only looked up at him—eyes burning from tears and began;
“It happened to be her.”
He only looked at her, brows furrowed as she lets out a breath and continued;
“She… happened to see him with someone else that time… I—”
Annie looked down—like she was ashamed she wasn’t able to at least be there for her.
“…I thought she'd just go outside and stay in her car. I texted her asking if she was alright—if she needed me to go and accompany her.”
“She only said she was fine. I was too caught up in the fun of the party I wasn’t able to see through her lie. Heck, I literally knew she was the worst in it.”
Her tears streamed down her face again as she dares not to choke a sob—continuing again.
“It didn’t come to my mind immediately she'll drive off… I realized. I really did… but it was all too late. She didn’t reply to my messages, she didn’t answer my calls.”
Eren could feel himself bubble up in both anger and disappointment—mostly anger.
‘That bastard.’ He thought.
“I even asked Sasha and Historia to try and message her knowing she'd sometimes mute my messages if she really wants to be alone… when they came back to me to update, they only received no reply.”
Silence.
After her explanation there was silence.
A deafening silence.
Annie then added;
“Seems like your father is her doctor… he told us she'll be in a coma.”
She then sniffled—scoffing afterward;
“Who knows how long will that last?”
Eren only breathed in—breathed out, clenching his fists like he wanted to punch the hell out of the bastard.
He looked back at the window to look at her.
There’s nothing he could do but wait.
Wait and wait.
Until she opens her eyes.
And pray that maybe later, or at least in a few days, she'd open her eyes.
He'll make sure he'd be the first person she'll see.
But for now… wait.
Shattered windows. Paralyzing pain. Broken voice.
She only felt her world spin as it slowly fades into darkness—eyes closing slowly.
Blood was just… everywhere inside the car.
How everything turned slow motion for her.
Memories of the good times from history flashing through her eyes.
Is this death?
Is this what it feels like when you’re about to die and say goodbye to the cruel world full of pain?
The way to say goodbye to move forward to a place where you'll never feel pain or sadness ever again?
No…
It’s probably false.
Because it immediately returned to darkness.
Plus, if she were to go to hell, she'd feel something—the heat of the fire at least or see the bright colors of nothing but fire.
She couldn’t think anymore…
But there.
Right… there.
Him.
Him. Kissing. Someone. Else.
That.
She suddenly felt every pain.
Every inch of agonizing pain.
This must be a nightmare… it must be. She needs to escape. Return at least to reality.
Because pain in any nightmare is much, much worse than reality.
Wake up.
WAKE UP!
For once, in the darkness… she’s screaming.
She had this feeling this was all a nightmare and she needs to escape it for her to wake up.
OPEN YOUR DAMN EYES!
She couldn’t help but scream in distress.
Maybe this way she could wake up… meet her friends… see him.
The machine's beeping was the only sound heard in the room.
Eren was sitting there—watching her and hoping she'll open her eyes now.
Trying to count every second but kept losing count to the point he'd start all over again.
He'd keep doing it.
Yes, as stupid as it may sound, he will.
He will wait and count… like a miracle that her eyes will open once he thinks of a number.
2 years.
2 fucking years of waiting.
How could he hold onto such hope for a long period?
How?
He was just… there.
In fact, whenever possible, he'd always be there—heck, even stay until he needs to go.
He only watched her sleeping figure—unmoving.
When? When will this end?
He then took her hand carefully and breathed out a “please”.
He stayed like that… when sleep came to him.
The room was still silent—a peaceful one.
It was still silent in the room and...
Just... just like a miracle! Something unbelievable happened!
She slowly opened her eyes as she moved her eyes around—seeing Eren who seems to be asleep by her side while his hand is over hers.
She only looked around more—confusion written on her face.
Eren suddenly felt something move underneath his hand a bit making him sit up—tearing his eyes open and…
He couldn’t believe it.
Her eyes then looked at his—sudden tears brimming in her eyes.
“Mikasa…?” He let out a gasp and blinked a few times—checking if he was dreaming or not.
Not wanting to take longer, he stood up and immediately headed for the intercom of the room—quickly telling them that she’s finally awake.
Finally.
After telling them what happened, he rushed back to her side.
“Are you ok? Do you want anything? Water?”
She only shook her head ‘no’ a bit and looked around—puzzled.
Eren only held her hand—reassuring she's safe.
“You'll be fine…” He said—voice overflowing with emotions.
He saw tears that escaped her eyes and decided to carefully wipe them away—her eyes fluttering like she was also glad that this long sleep was over.
“Eren…” She breathed out.
“I'm here…” He whispered.
“It’s alright…”
At the end of tragedy, there will always be relief.
Patience.
Patience will always be the number one ingredient to love.
Because the person who truly loves you will be there to wait for you.
No matter how long.
