Work Text:
It’s uncommon for you to be the only one in the common living area, usually someone else is there too. It’s oddly quiet without the BakuSquad starting something or Midoriya’s mumbling.
You’re stretched out on the couch, on your phone, idly browsing social media and wondering how you can convince Mina to watch something that isn’t a romcom for movie night, when Sero walks in. You glance at him, barely lifting your eyes off your phone, when you do a double take.
He’s wearing a long black skirt casually with his t-shirt, and it’s somewhat hot. You knew you had a crush on Sero, you’ve known since you had an actual conversation for the first time, but it’s weird thinking of him as pretty instead of cute or even hot.
He flops down on the chair near you. “Hey, L/N.” he says, pulling out his own phone, not noticing how your eyes are stuck on him.
“Hey Sero.” you say back, trying to turn your attention back to whatever meme is on your screen. But it’s hard, what with him just sitting there in his skirt. “Nice skirt.”
He grins. “Thank you!”
Unsure of what to say next, you turn back to your phone. “Where are your friends?” you finally say, the conspicuous lack of other, loud, teens finally becoming apparent.
“They’re all busy.” he says, and he looks somewhat sad, but you brush it off. What could you do anyways? Ask him out on date? Like he’d ever say yes.
You both turn your attention to your phones, and you pull out your earbuds, playing soft music in the background. You don’t even notice you’re humming and singing along till he looks up.
“Sorry!” you say, pausing your music and tugging the earbuds out, cramming them into your pocket.
“No, it-” he flushes red, “It sounded nice.” It’s your turn to have heat rise to your face as you look away at the compliment.
“Thanks.” you tuck your phone into your pocket too, sitting up. “Hey, do you want to do something together, since your friends aren’t here?” he nods, putting his phone in his pocket, and you fiddle with one of the strings of your hoodie as you decide to be brave. “I mean as a date?” you make it a question, just so he has the option of saying no.
Instead, his smile grows even wider. “I’d love that!” he stands up, and you leave the dorms. It’s a Friday night, so you don’t have to check in with Aizawa, and you walk together down the sidewalk.
Neither of you are actually dressed for a date, you in your hoodie and jeans, and him in his skirt and graphic tee, but it doesn’t matter as you enter a small cafe.
“What do you want?” you ask, already taking out your wallet, but he shakes his head, pulling out his own wallet.
“I’ll pay, don’t worry! What do you want?” you smile, telling him your normal order. He goes to join the line, and you find a table and sit down, nervously fidgeting with your sleeves.
When he comes back with the drinks and two cookies, he’s on the phone. You’d feel offended, but he doesn’t look like he’s ignoring you. Instead he shoots you an apologetic smile, setting the drinks down and handing you one of the cookies.
“Mina, I really can’t come now. I’m on date. Don’t scream! Yeah, it’s with L/N.” His voice lowers, but not enough that you can’t hear him. “Yes, the one I have a crush on, how many more L/Ns are there in UA?” he blushes as you can hear a high pitched scream from Mina’s side of the screen. “Bye.” he hangs up, and takes his place opposite you. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” you say, trying to ignore the way you feel giddy inside. He likes you back? Well, he did agree to the date.
You settle into easy conversation, talking about your lives, gossip, and the absurd amount of homework that Ectoplasm set.
Conversation with Sero is easy, unforced, and you find yourselves talking until the sun is dangerously close to the horizon. Neither of you are going home for the weekend, so you have to get to the dorms before sunset on threat of being locked out, so you throw out your trash, and leave the cafe to walk home together.
As you walk, your knuckles brush against his, and you pull your hand away, embarrassed, only to have him slide his own hand into yours. You glance over at him, and he smiles, not stopping talking. You smile back.
When you reach the dorms, he walks with you over to your room’s door. “I had fun.” you say, and he beams.
“So did I! Can we do it again some time?”
“Of course, Sero!” you say, and he shakes his head.
“Call me Hanta.” he says, and you get flustered again, unable to make eye contact.
“Call me Y/N.” he nods, and leans in, pressing a kiss to your cheek. With a wave, he leaves, and you step into your dorm room, flopping down on your bed and burying your face in a pillow to scream in happiness.
