The Room Full Of Stars

Summary:

For once, you and the Doctor aren't on some sort of wild adventure through time and space. That doesn't mean you aren't on an adventure.

Notes:

I'm not super proud of this actually, tell me if you want something different!

Work Text:

It is a rare thing for the TARDIS to have slow days. Usually you were rushing around with the Doctor, having adventures throughout space and time.

Today is not one of those days, and you’re slumped on a stool, watching the Doctor push and pull at the TARDIS controls. She works frantically, like you have somewhere to be, but you know that’s not true.

You have all of time, after all.

“Doctor.” you say. “Come sit with me.” she pauses in surprise, but comes to sit by you anyways, flopping down. “We don’t have to do something everyday, Doctor.” you say, and she hums.

“I suppose not.” it takes only a few seconds before she continues. “But I get bored.” you give a small laugh.

“So do I. Come on, I haven’t seen all of the TARDIS yet.” you slip your hand into hers, standing up and pulling her with you.

“It’s infinite.” she laughs, but she still tugs you down the halls, excited to show you around, even though she probably doesn’t know where half the things are.

The first room you both tumble into is a library, filled with texts in all sorts of scripts. You take one off the shelf, and gentle curling calligraphy swirls into words you can read. You close it and slip it back into its place.

The Doctor pulls you to a large carved door hidden behind the stacks, pushing it open to a glimmering wonderland of stars. It looks like you’re standing together giant in the middle of space, surrounded by stars, in various stages of life.

“Wow.” you murmur, spinning around on the invisible floor. You’ve been close to stars before, real ones, but it still takes your breath away, the beauty of the room. “I love this.”

The Doctor grins, taking a hold of your hand again. It’s much more purposeful, and it makes heat rise to your face. “I’m glad you like it.” she says, like she made it just for you. She didn’t, but it almost feels that way, turning to face her, faces inches apart as your breath catches in your throat.

“Doctor.” you say, and she smiles. It would take only a small movement forward to close the gap between you. She steps forwards, foot taking place between yours, and kisses you softly. You kiss back. It’s tender and soft, and perfect.

When you pull away, she’s lit up by stars, lights glittering off her hair, forming a halo deserving of her. You can barely breath at the way her face looks in the half dark, stars cutting sharp shadows and lights over her.

“Doctor.” you say again, and she smiles again.

“Y/N.” she replies, and you grin, squeezing her hand tighter in yours. “Come on, we’re not done yet. This is only one room.” she pulls you away, and you laugh as you enter the next room, full of glee.

“I thought the TARDIS was infinite.”

“It is!”
