Work Text:
It started when Shinsou Hitoshi finally brought someone home.
Despite having to move onto UA campus for the school year, the Aizawa-Yamada family kept their apartment, located just down the hill from UA’s campus. When the school year let out for the summer, they returned home, dusting off the furnitute and sweeping the floors.
Eri had never been inside the apartment before. She hovered tentatively at the front door with Aizawa while Hitoshi and Yamada started turning on lights and opening windows.
“This is where we lived before we moved to UA.” Aizawa tells her. “Come on- we have a room for you.”
“I still don’t see why we couldn’t have just stayed here.” Says Shinsou, reaching to open the door to the room he had helped set up last week.
“Saaftey!” Comes Yamada’s sing-song voice from the kitchen. “Also if you weren’t in the dorms how would you make friends with all your new classmates?”
“I don’t need to make friends” Said Shinsou at the same time Aizawa said “He doesn’t need to make friends.” Eri giggled.
The room wasn’t very big, smaller than Eri’s room in the teacher’s dorm. It had been their office before. Present Mic’s recording extra recording equipment and some old teaching notes had all been filed away into boxes and they’d gotten a twin bed, some more stuffed animals, red curtains and a comfortable chair and rug to decorate the room with instead.
“It’s a bit smaller than you’re used to…” Said Aizawa.
Eri gave him a smile. “Thanks Dad!” Both Aizawa and Shinsou felt a wave of emotion cascade over them at those small words. Eri had only recently started to refer to them as family, her Dad and Papa and Hitoshi-nii. It tugged on all their heartstrings and felt like it would never get old.
Eri climbed onto the bed and bounced up and down before sitting down. “It’s nice!” She said.
Hitoshi went over and opened the window to air out the room. It wasn’t quite humid enough to put on the Aircon, and a soft breeze came in and ruffled all their hair.
They ate dinner all together around their kitchen table for the first time. Eri had to sit on a pillow to reach the appropriate table height. But their little family was home, shielded from the outside world.
On the second week of Summer break, on a Tuesday, Shinsou Hitoshi asked if he could bring someone over. He asks over breakfast, while they’re all
“WhO?” Asks Yamada.
“Midoriya.” He replies.
Eri brightens at his name. “Really!! Izuku-nii is coming over!”
Hitoshi smiles back at his little sister. “Yeah. He wanted to play that new game I got. And I thought why not.”
Aizawa watched his son closely. He looked a littler nervous. “Are you sure you want to invite him over.”
“…If it’s okay with you.”
“Of course it’s okay!” Says Yamada. “Finally having a friend over! I never thought I’d see tha day.” He mimes wiping a tear away from his face.
Hitoshi roles his eyes but doesn’t do anything to refute that Midoriya is his friend.
Hitoshi meets Midoriya at the train station. He spots the dark green head of hair pushing its way through the crowd – then the distinctive red shoes come into view as it thins out more.
“Shinsou!” He waves enthusiastically at the boy as he springs over. “It’s nice to see you! It’s been a while since I saw anyone! I got to hang out with Iida-kun and Todoroki-kun the other day though! That was nice, we went down to the beach and-“
“Midoriya.” He falls silent.
“So you got the game?”
“Yeah. I live a block away.” He throws his hand out in the direction before they start to walk.
“Wow! I never knew you lived so close to UA. This is the same stop I used to get off at before we all moved into the dorms. Was it convinent?”
He shrugs. “While it lasted.”
Their apartment was in a small building on the second floor. There were only two units on each floor, so it was a short walk up the stairs and too the door.
Midoriya looks at the name plate. “Wait that doesn’t say Shinsou-“ he says in the split second it takes for Hitoshi to finish unlocking the door. He doesn’t respond, just
“Eri? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be back at school with Aizawa-sensei?”
“She’s still with me.” Comes a familiar voice.
Midoriyas jaw drops with a squeak and he looks up at Aizawa sensei, dressed in casual clothes (although not that far off from his hero outfit), cat slippers, and ???. “Aizawa-sensei?” He squeaks out. He looks from his teacher to his friend, his teacher to his friend and his teacher to his friend. “You- you- live- huh? Here??” He says.
Aizawa and Hitoshi crack identical smiles at his pure bewilderment.
“Dad and Papa and Hitoshi-nii all live with me now!” Says Eri. “Normally Hitoshi-nii is in the other dorm, so this is really nice.”
Midoriya closes his jaw then opens it. “Oh how could I have been so stupid it seems that Todoroki-kun was right after all, I just thought that because he was wrong about me it would seem that this was yet another baseless accusation they don’t have that similar quirks but their similarity in manerisms suggests that they’ve spent a lot of time together and shinsou uses aizawas weapons they also have very similar faces so of course it makes sense that shinsou is his son.”
Shinsou finally interrupts Midoriya’s mutterings. “Wait what?”
“Oh I’m sorry for rambling,” He bows even though he doesn’t have to. “I want just saying that I’m surprised I didn’t notice that you were father and son earlier after all it makes sense in retrospect, you look so similar!”
“Wait- do you think Shouta’s my bio-dad?”
“Is he not.”
Aizawa-sensei gives him a look. “Kid, how old do you think I am?”
Midoriya paused. “…not old enough to have a kid my age? Then is he your niece? Or younger brother – you’re around Iida’s older brother’s age.”
Shinsou hides a smile with his hand. “Midoriya – We’re not related by blood at all. My dads adopted me just like Eri.”
Midoriyas jaw drops. “That’s even more unbelievable than finding out you’re Aizawa-sensei’s son!”
“Why?”
“Because you look so alike! How aren’t you related?” Midoriya descends into muttering about long lost relatives.
The duo looks up at each other. Oh Hisashi’s going to love hearing about this. Thinks Aizawa. He runs a hand through his messy hair. “Why don’t you go take him to play video games before his brain overheats trying to solve this.” He tells his son.
Shinsou drags Midoriya over to his room.
“Can I come play with you too?” Asks Eri.
Shinsou smiles at her, he’s sure that her attention span won’t last the whole time, but is happy to include her. “Of course you can join us.”
“Oh by the way you can stay for dinner, I think by Pops made something.”
“Sure!” Says Midoriya. Wondering who exactly his teachers partner was.
He walks into the kitchen and does a double take at who’s at the counter showing Eri how to peel an apple. “MIC-SENSEI!?!”
Shinsou just smiles chaotically behind him.
