Izuku couldn’t look the dual quirked user in the eyes, afraid of seeing the hurt and betrayal that was bound to be there. It was his fault, he allowed himself to get too close to the hero even when he knew someone was going to end up hurt in the end. He was a villain infiltrating U.A to gain information, Todoroki just happened to cross paths with him and it was easier trying to fit in after that.
Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan, especially not with a hero but fate always had a way of messing things up. And though it hurt to fight the taller boy, Izuku couldn’t go against orders. So, he pushed the feeling of regret and guilt and attacked. Shouto didn’t love him, it was okay.
But was it?
****
Shouto didn’t know how to feel..the boy he began to love wasn’t who he thought he was. His chest ached knowing the first person he ever allowed into his guarded heart ended up being a villain, someone who killed people and seemed to enjoy it. He hoped there was still a piece of the green haired angel who stayed up late with him to go stargazing, there was no way he could fight someone that showed him the beauty of the world even if they are a villain, even if Shouto should detain him and have him sent to prison.
He remembered how Izuku revealed his identity a few nights prior and how he held out his hand and begged for Shouto to join him, but he refused and ended up snapping at him-
“SHOUTO!” He looked up to see a sharp piece of metal falling, heading towards him at a rapid rate. He didn’t have enough time to throw up his arms to shield himself with his ice, instead he felt a harsh shove and he collided with the ground.
His eyes opened, not knowing when he ever closed them. He made contact with big green orbs, blood spilling from the mouth of a very familiar face. “Sorry...Shouto..” He rasped, heaving painful breaths.
“Izuku…” The beautiful boy, who owned his heart, shielded Shouto with his body, taking the blow. “No. No. You shouldn’t have done that. Please Izuku..”
The green haired boy coughed and gasped at the pain. “I’m..so sorry..Shouto. I never wanted to hurt you.” His green eyes were dulling, glazed with pain and fear.
“No, please. Don’t close your eyes, please. Izuku.” Shouto cried as the smaller boy only smiled, eyes closing. “IZUKU! HELP SOMEONE!” The dual-quirked user screamed, tears flowing out. He couldn’t move to get help, not without making the situation worse.
“I love you..Shouto.”
“No, you can’t leave me. Not you too. Please. Please, wake up. ” His chest hurt, his head hurt. Everything hurt. This shouldn’t have happened.
Izuku was a villain but Izuku was everything to Shouto. A scream of pure hurt and fear came from Shout as his love took his last breath, eyes closing as a fear tears escaped. “You promised you wouldn’t leave me like everyone else…”
He could hear the shouts of his classmates, the sound of Aizawa-sensei calling out to him but he couldn’t bring himself to move. Even if he knew he should, leaving Izuku seemed wrong and he still didn’t want to believe the other was gone. It shouldn’t have ended like this.
Maybe it would have been easier if he thought Izuku hated him but his last words..were meant for Shouto. The other loved him and Shouto really wished he didn’t because maybe it wouldn’t hurt as much. Maybe it would have been easier to let go and move on.
But Shouto ached, he ached for someone that would never come back. He ached for the boy with sad smiles and tears he’d never let fall. He ached for the boy who stayed up late with him when the nightmares got too bad, he ached for the kisses and hugs he’d never get the chance to feel again.
But most of all, he ached for the boy who died believing Shouto didn’t love him. The last conversation they had Izuku revealed who he really was and Shouto was hurt and betrayed, he yelled things he didn’t mean. Shouto screamed at him to leave, that he hated him, and that the whole thing was a mistake. It wasn’t, it never was.
Shouto was deeply and irrevocably in love with a boy, a villain, someone he’d never get to see again.
“I love you too.” He whispered as tears fell from the corners of his eyes. “I love you too..”
