Chapter Text
Sam always has that smug glimmer in his eyes, even if he's not smiling right now, Bucky can see it clearly all over his face. It's so irritating, but he tries not to show it, because that'd be like admitting Sam is winning somehow.
For a moment, he forgets all about the therapist that's with them in the room, until she says something like "What are you doing?" It doesn't matter anyway because Bucky is determined to win. No, it's not a staring contest, it's a blinking contest and yet... it's not that simple.
Sam is grinning now, so Bucky narrows his eyes, he frowns thinking about that time when the falcon assured him he had a plan, but he didn't bother to tell Bucky or when he jumped off a plane and he was stupid enough to worry about that man for a moment.
He wants to say something, but that would feel also like losing so Bucky bites his own tongue instead. It's hard... his eyelids want to move but he ignores the feeling.
There's something new in Sam's eyes when he leans closer to Bucky, but the winter soldier doesn't have the time to quirk up one of his brows at him because the falcon moves quickly and presses his lips against his.
Bucky has so many questions inside his head, all of them mixing with each other... He doesn't know what to say or what to do, but his heart is doing something weird inside his chest and even if he remembers that feeling he doesn't recognize it immediately.
It's been a long time.
His face is hot by the time he blinks, confused, surprised and yet enjoying the sensation of Sam's lips over his.
The falcon leans back on his chair; he's still smiling.
"You blinked," Sam points out and Bucky is glad that everything is still okay between them even though something clearly changed.
"That's cheating!" He growls back as he always does.
He hears the therapist sighing in the background and they both watch as she starts writing furiously on her notebook.
