Work Text:
Six crawled out the basement. She had timed her escape perfectly, The Hunter was gone, out doing one of his hunts for more animals. She crept through the house listening silently in case he decided to come back, he always came back earlier some days. She carefully searched some of the rooms for anything to eat. She passed by a bedroom and didn't think much of it until she heard a weird beeping noise.
What was that? She carefully walked into the bedroom and looked up at the giant bed. It was huge, but there was a sheet hanging from it to help her up. She climbed up and landed on the soft surface, and looked at the thing on the pillow. It seemed to be a doll, stitched up horribly and had a weird thing strapped to its chest. Six watched it cautiously and almost jumped when the device on its chest started beeping. She crept closer, watching it carefully.
Then it blinked.
Six yelped and scurried away from him. She watched him silently, seeing him blink and look around frantically. He looked around with his eyes and looked down at Six. He let out a series of beeps, most of them green as Six watched him not saying a word. But she wasn't paying attention to the beeps he was making. She was paying attention to his eyes. They were dull, a dark brown with no light, but still alive.
He was alive.
Which meant, Six could eat him. Get her strength back and move on. Like she always did.
She moved closer to the doll, a hungry look in her eyes. Mono instantly realized she was bad news and the device on his chest started beeping red rapidly, trying to get the attention of The Hunter. Six ignored the beeping thing and ripped it off his chest, throwing it to the ground and lifting him up by his neck. She opened her mouth to sink her teeth into him and--
BANG!
Her head exploded all over Mono, The Hunter in the doorway as he held his gun. The big man breathed heavily and stomped over to the bed, grabbing the girls dead body and threw it into the wall, holding up his Mono and nuzzling him gently, stroking his hair up and down. He wiped off the blood and bits of guts off of his precious boy and kept nuzzling him. No body could hurt his bag boy. No body.
They stayed like that for a long while, but suddenly timed seemed to slow down. The Hunter's breath hitched as he saw a man, a very thin man come into the room, right through the wall. He knew this man all too well, he was responsible for all the suffering in the Pale City. He was responsible for all of his suffering. Why was he here now?
The Thin Man looked at Mono in The Hunter's arms, and his head tilted more in slight confusion. Then it went back to normal, as The Thin Man reached out and snatched Mono from The Hunter's grasp. The Hunter screamed and tried to get his shot gun, but he was moving painfully slow like everything else. Mono was terrified, twitching his little head as he pointlessly tried to escape.
The Thin Man looked at his younger self carefully. He was now helpless, anything could snatch him up and take him away. The Signal Tower would sense his presence and take him away, turn him into a means to an end once more.
He couldn't let that happen.
The Thin Man ignored The Hunter's cries as he reached up with his second hand and snapped Mono's neck, smoothly and painless. He dropped the body mindlessly and turned around, glitching away. Time returned to normal and The Hunter gasped, running over to his boy and cradling his small dead body in his hands, weeping silently. He desperately searched for a pulse, a heartbeat, small breathing, anything, but it was too late. Mono, his bag boy, was gone forever.
He held the small body close to him and wept for what seemed like forever.
