Work Text:
A warm, duvet-clad embrace lit up the sparking nerve-endings and stardust he was composed of even in death. Light fingers skimmed his arm - an unconscious caressing with a goal ambiguous.
Heaven. In more sense than one.
"How long?"
"Forever."
"You promise?" he asked for clarity. He needed to hear it again.
"Of course, my dear."
He tightened his arms around his beloved: an anchor for his worries. With the breath of a contented sigh, the doubts dissolved. William pressed a tender kiss to his head. It melted into his hair, fondness seeping blissfully through his scalp to still his swirling mind.
Calm.
He drew back and looked into his eyes, brown on blue: a soul exposed, finally unguarded after over a century of restraint.
"5 years and you haven't aged a bit."
"Funny that, almost as if I'm dead."
A chuckle.
"I'd love to be soppy and say I want to grow old with you, but doesn't seem as though we'll be doing so..."
With a thumb he flicked a stray hair from his forehead. His hand lingered, humming with affection.
"I'm okay with that."
Smile.
Not just any smile, but William's smile. His William's smile. One of his favourite sights in the world.
Shuffle closer.
"I love you." - a final whisper before sleep.
Silence; broken only by the echoing of hearts destined to beat for eternity~
