There were so many questions Riku had for Sora so many things he wanted to ask his friend. What about? His adventure of course, Riku wanted to know all about how Sora found him how did he get to be as strong as he was? The moves he preformed before him after the defeat of Xemnas was far greater than anything he'd ever seen in his caliginous venture of self-discovery and retrieval of his friend.
Riku grunted crouching into a fairly comfortable sitting position assisted by Sora finally, settled on the edge of the beach waves rushing slowly up to meet their shoes on the sand the two boys started to converse about the beginning of all this mess. A story of jealousy, old times, everything else in between both of their Journeys.
There was so much to talk about sense they would be stranded in the realm of darkness for who knows how long so they made the most of their time together by talking about every little secret they held close to their eyes.
Maybe some not so close.
“Sora when you said you would protect Kairi from the meteor showers if one were to stray from the sky did you mean it?”
Castle oblivion may have scattered some of his memories but Riku did remember his replica saying something of that nature, except he was the one holding the wooden sword making the promises.
“It's kinda silly to think about it but yeah, if that did happen I would deflect it back just to protect her.”
Bringing the question back up had no real significance his true intention was just wanting to hear the boy speak to him some more.
“I would do the same for you even if you too, Riku.”
Sora could go on about how he would do anything for Riku but it's very clear that the unspoken is spoken loud enough for the message to get across without words.
Riku hummed in agreement that he would do the same for Sora in that hypothetical fantasy were actual.
“After what we just did I don't have any doubt that you couldn't, we literally just fought a castle that transformed into a dragon! So a little shooting star would be nothing for us.”
Sora's hand retuened to the ground this time his hand atop of Riku's. His fingers covered the fringes of Riku's knuckles, the gesture surprised him at first Riku started trying to Justify why until he thought maybe Sora was scared. Scared of never returning home, scared of the unknown all by himself.
Riku held his hand properly and Sora held it back squeezing it just a little bit for reassurance of the person next to him was real and not just his imagination or some noninvisible thing taking Riku's place.
“I'm real Sora, you don't have to worry.” Riku squeezed back.
There was silence for a while both boys continues to stare into the ocean of darkness running out of things to say to eachother.
“Do you think...Do you think we'll live here forever?”
For a while Sora didn't reply he didn't even look at Riku when he spoke. “Is it wrong that would kinda be okay?” His cheeks begin to red but Riku didn't see it, he knew Sora felt shameful for saying it though. He felt shameful thinking the same.
“No it's fine. i kinda thought that too...that i wanted to spend the rest of my life... with you, Sora.”
Sora leaned in close to Riku. “Remember when I said I had something you could never imitate?”
“You gonna tell me?” Riku shifted more to Sora trying to be brave. Sora's lips touched Riku's in a close-mouthed kiss. He welcomed it, cherished it, neither of them had experience so all they could do was pour their feelings into it and hope for the best.
Right when Riku started to yield under his touch he pulled away slow. “I get to look at you, and be your friend too, Riku.” The smaller boy placed his hand on Riku's chest kissing him again. “I missed you so much.”
Riku felt dizzy something in his heart moved it ached, desired Sora's craved feelings he had never felt yet. He wrapped his arms around him embracing him passionately for what felt like to short of eternity.
This time when they pulled apart they just sat there In eachothers company time becoming nothingness because all they needed was eachother till the end of it anyway. Closing their eyes until a vagabond bottle hit Riku's foot.
The silver haired boy woke with a jolt the absents of Sora was starting to test him to his limit's.
Would that last kiss be the final time they would share one?
He smooth his hand over his hair to calm his restless mind. To no avail nothing seem to ease his worrying heart of the boy who was always on his mind.
Was he okay? Did he need help? He said he had to take care of something the last time he saw him, all Riku could do was wait for him to return no matter how hard that was.
Lets try this again.
He felt like he had woken up but never been to sleep. When he finally did fall asleep he woke right up thinking about Sora.
He turned over on his stomach pulling the pillow over his head, his surroundings became sweaty like his pits moist, in the heat of the night that was pure torture though he tried to stay still so he could fall back asleep.
Riku woke up in a dam nightshirt the next time he threw his body up from the mattress.
Can't you mess with me when I'm awake? Any other time would be alright but while I'm trying to sleep, really Sora?
Laying back down Riku tried to imagine Sora by his side or just in his bed with him, maybe sleep with come easier if he had someone to hold onto at night.
When Riku woke up again there was somebody by his side, her white nightgown cling to her body with sweat as did her hair stick to her face, one of her legs hung out from under the comforter and her hands placed neatly next to her sides.
Riku twitched away from her, hundred questions running through his head. How and why was she here? This bedroom was given to him by the master while he took his test he hadn't had time to travel home yet so the bedroom belong to him for the time being.
He retreated to the otherside of the bed returning to his side back to her.
“Rikuuu~” Kairi whined. “Stop moving it's hot enough.”
Oh so she was awake.
“Sorry.”
Kairi turned over just like Riku clasped her arms around his pulling it from underneath him, she then proceeded to snuggle onto him like a bear.
“Ha–Hey! I thought you said it was hot?!”
“It is! But I wanna cuddle.” She nuzzled her face on his bicep.
Riku sighed, “If that's gonna be the case,” he stole his arm from her only to capture her in backwards hug. “ might as well get comfortable.” His fingers locked above her tummy pulling her towards his chest softly.
Kairi her eyebrows raised and her eyes crinkled she nestled into Riku's chest like a pillow, he huddled her close. It wasn't Sora but he enjoyed Kairi all the same.
“Do I need to even ask why the master let you inside?” he peaked open one eye at her.
“I wouldn't.”
The rest of the night was spent holding eachother until both of them could sleep, waking spells free stuck together with sweat and cold air by morning.
