If there’s anything Subaru’s learned about Lugunica, it’s that this place is nuts. One minute you’re getting your face rearranged and swearing eternal rivalry against some grape-juice flavored asshole, the next you’re tenderly stitching his wounds up like his personal battlefield nurse and being like, friends. Seriously, he doesn’t get paid enough for this.
If there’s anything Julius has learned about Subaru, it’s that he’ll never fail to catch him entirely by surprise. Od help him if he’s beginning to like that.

Somewhere along the line, Julius lost half himself, entrusted what was left of that self to Subaru, proceeded to take what was essentially a year-long sabbatical from the knight’s order excused via being forgotten by everyone he knows and loves, and somehow expected to be able to pick all the pieces back up and form himself again.
Whoever that him is supposed to be, now.
Or, Julius falls out of line, falls apart, and falls unforgivably in love.
Not necessarily in that order.

It’s not safe. She’s going to die. She needs to be ready, she needs to be a good parent, a good person. Anything and anyone that’s a product of her own actions suffers. There’s no suitable resources in a medieval fantasy world, right?
There’s no mom and dad to leech off of again.
