“Did something happen tonight, George?”The question is simple. Eight syllables, five words. But it makes his eyes well up, makes his breath stutter, because something did happen that night. He went on date with a man; blonde hair, freckles. He wore tight jeans because he thought it would get him laid, and it nearly did, before he saw a flash of blue where green was supposed to be.
He thought he was lonely and projecting, but he wasn’t. Somewhere between the noisy pub and the silent car, his date had turned into Dream, because George doesn’t want anyone but Dream. He doesn’t want a boyfriend, or a steady hookup, or someone with blue eyes and blonde hair to murmur how pretty he is beneath a streetlight... he wants Dream, and only Dream.
“No,” George whispers. It comes out unstable and shaky, breathy and watery. “Yes. I don’t know.”
Dream whispers, “Talk to me, Georgie.”
