Leaves From The Vine

Summary:

Philza is immortal, and throughout the decades, hes picked up a few different things. One of those things is a song that he's heard under...several different circumstances. He only though he'd use it as a soothing song for those who needed sleep. However... after years of living, death... death still hurts. And so, he still sings the song. First as a lullaby, then to mourn a son whom he loved dearly, and finally... to mourn a child who was so wrongfully killed.

Chapter 1: A Lullaby

Chapter Text

Whoever said that parenthood was easy, Philza would want them to meet his kids. Or rather, his kid and his student. His very energetic student. Like when they were both supposed to be getting ready for bed; they were actually running around, still trying to play fight despite their lessons being done for the day.  He sighed as he finally got them both into their beds. Though...getting them to actually sleep once they were tucked in? Now that was a different ordeal altogether. He sighed as he looked at the two, very awake,  kids, despite them being tucked in and having had a full day.

“Say...if i sing a cool song for you two, will you guys try to go to bed?” He said, definitely tired and wishing for his kid and student to Go To Sleep. A young wilbur perked up when it was mentioned, “A song? Is it the one about the poet and the king? I always thought that one was so cool!” he said, excited about being able to hear his dad sing again! Especially since they were usually so cool!

“A song… I dunno...it kinda sounds like a lullaby to me, and we’re too old for lullabies! Right Wil?” Technoblade grumbled a bit because he was already eight! He was too Old for stuff like lullabies. “Well...I guess…” Wilbur looked down while agreeing with techno, still wanting to hear the song. Phil then hummed slightly before smirking lightly, knowing Just how to encourage Techno to listen to him. “Good thing it isn’t a lullaby then. In fact...it’s an anthem from when I was younger. And it was something even the strongest warriors sang!” He said excitedly, showing how Cool and Awesome it was since Techno seemed intent on being a strong warrior when he gets older. “An anthem? Well...I guess it's okay then…” He said before nodding at Phil, giving his approval.

Phil gives a slight smirk at his young student at how quickly he changed his opinion before starting to sing gently after getting his guitar. “ Leaves from the vine, falling so slow, like tiny fragile shells drifting in the foam .” He then softly smiled as he noticed the kids begin to yawn and look more tired.  “I-i thought this was an anthem… I haven't heard any soldier stuff yet...” Techno yawned before Wilbur tiredly waved his arm at the other kid “Shhh...he's gettin’ to that bit, Techie...” Phil gave a nod before continuing with the song. “ Little soldier boy, come marching home. Brave soldier boy, come marching home… ” With those last few notes, the kids fell asleep and Phil gave them a soft smile before putting up his guitar.

“Goodnight my little soldier boys…” He said softly, before leaving and quietly closing the door behind him. Not knowing about what their paths would lead to years down the line.
