Chapter Text
There were many things that Tubbo knew were true. Like nukes were always fun to explode, bees were one of the greatest creation (bless the prime god), most of the gods and deities of this server were too serious needing a bit of chaos to keep them from having another mental breakdown and his family was very “interesting”.
That’s not to say that Tubbo didn´t love them. He had always appreciated them and the fact that they weren´t as strict as the other parents on this server. They both valued freedom am creativity be it in different ways, but they had always encouraged Tubbo to follow his own path.
The only problem is that they weren´t the most transparent about family matters.
Tubbo knew that they weren’t the only gods to ley, not by a long shot. It was actually a miracle all things considered that they didn’t ley more especially considering Schlatt position in godhood made him pretty good at it.
The problem with them lying wasn’t that they did it, it was what they chose to hid under the metaphorical rug.
When it came to problems that affected the family they had always tried to include Tubbo even when he was still only a child.
They usually explained how their life as gods made the different from mortals in simplified ways. They tended to use the old puppet show techniques, they would probably take that to their graves when asked, or Wilbur would make up songs to keep him interested in the history.
And when he had questions about the history of their world, of the many gods that inhabited it, about them and what they did they tried to answer honestly about his position in this world and what that entitled, his responsibility’s and his future followers.
And yet they never could answer why Wilbur had to leave sometimes, why he was seemingly calm one moment and all of a sudden started being utterly chaotic in a split second or why he sometimes had to take a pill in the morning.
Tubbo actually loved when because Wilbur was always at his most fun and charming when he let loose and was a little crazy and then it wasn’t so fun. He stops being fun and started crossing over to something more dark.
He never was violent nor exactly mean he just seemed so trapped, tormented, desperate it was hard to describe.
When this happens its usually Schlatt, but Tubbo has also had to be the one to call on occasions when Schlatt wasn’t around, that has to call Phil to take care of it.
Tubbo didn’t know what it is that Phil does but it usually involved him taking Wilbur to the Artic empire for a few days before they both came back to normal with apologies and gifts in tow.
A few times Wilbur had started saying odd incomplete sentences, fragmented thoughts that Tubbo wondered if they were part of some story that he had made up. They never made sense didn’t line up with what he had heard from others.
On those occasions Technoblade would come alongside Phil to escort Wilbur to Artic empire.
When Tubbo was young these occurrences made him feel worried but never scared. His father had never wanted to hurt him or dad he cherished them.
It was always explained to him that his father loved them he just couldn’t always be around them and that was okay.
So Wilbur was messed up apparently but he wasn’t the only one. Schlatt was a beacon to corrupt politician and power hunger businessman. He loved alcohol and running his mouth, but he stuck with both Tubbo and Wilbur through the good and the bad. And despite not being good with words he always took the time to sit down with them and just let them know he was there. And when Wilbur was away or busy Tubbo couldn’t count the times were he pushed not only his work but his followers aside just to spend time and play silly little games only enjoyed by a parent and their child as they made the sweets memories.
It was probably thanks to all the good memories that his parents put up with him when he tried sneaking bees into the house or the multiple occasions of property damage caused by him and Tommy were forgiven.
It was getting to sappy there for a moment. Time to snap back to reality.
Tubbo wasn´t perfect either. He sometimes purposefully didn’t read the room, he could make very rash decisions that in retrospect were not suited for someone of his age to undergo and had trouble with prioritizing certain things.
And despite all this his parents still cared for him and he for them.
So Tubbo didn’t care that they lied sometimes. He just hoped that one day they felt that they could open up about their problems.
He could wait for that time. He hoped they knew that.
When push came to shove though Tubbo did in fact want to know one thing. A question that he had asked for years and still had not gotten a proper answer to.
Why did they make him what was the real reason behind Tubbo’s existence in this world that had no true need for anymore gods? That some may argue never needed them to begin with.
The other gods had children to pass down the burden like Phil and have company or to be able to step down all together from the heavy price of power that came with being someone that is worshiped above all others like Puffy.
Some have children for convenience and some just like to have something that is pure and solely theirs to love, cherish and manipulate.
There was always a reason a motive behind the action. Even if the gods truly love their children at the end of the day it was always a selfish acted that brought them into the world and kept them there.
Tubbo couldn’t find the motive his parents must have had to give life to him. He didn’t get it they didn’t need a child. There wasn’t any need for a new god and there’s didn’t seem like a marriage of convenience. There were rules that they made Tubbo follow but they weren’t actively seeking to control him or mold him how they saw fit.
As he walked through the snow in Snowchester contemplating these things all he could think of was when he was little and asked about such things.
“Hey Tubbs would you like some hot chocolate when we get home?” Wilbur had asked as he and a five-year-old Tubbo were making their way back home after a visiting Phil’s to drop Tommy of.
It must have shown on Tubbo’s face that he was not content to leave the blond devils side even after they had spent three howl weeks together.
Wilbur’s attempts at cheering him up did not go in vain as Tubbo immediately lit up at hearing that. He couldn’t give any verbal with the thick woolen scarf raped around his face and neck that Wilbur had insisted he wear before going out, but the exited flicker of his little ram ears was enough confirmation for Wilbur.
Wilbur had chuckled at Tubbo’s reaction continuing to make idle chit chat as they got closer to their destination.
Tubbo didn’t remember how but the conversation had eventually turned to Tommy’s complaints of never being taken seriously because he was the youngest of the current children.
Now that Tubbo had his mouth free from its scarf prison, Wilbur finally let him take it off as it was getting warmer the closer they got to home, he had suddenly said “Mabey you could give me a little brother and then Tommy would be happy.”
Wilbur had spluttered before recovering and nervously laughing it off. “Well Tubbo I’m not sure about that. Maybe Dream is planning on making another child sometime in the future. He did mention that he had some “special blocks” he was going to use for a new project soon.”
Tubbo had pouted slightly but made no further comment not willing to risk his chances at getting hot chocolate.
When they got home Wilbur got out his key and had shouted that they were back as soon as they had opened the door. Waiting to get a shout of conformation from the living room before helping Tubbo out of his thick winter gear and shimming out of his own.
Grabbing their slightly wet close and bags he turned to Tubbo telling him to go bother his dad to stop working so much and wait for him in the living room while he went to dry of their clothes and leave their luggage in their rooms for later unpacking.
Tubbo peaked into the living room seeing his dad looking over some papers, cup of coffee in one hand and pen in the other.
Silently Tubbo walked over and sat down next to Schlatt trying to look at the papers. Not understand what was written Tubbo gave out an exaggerated sigh before slumping agents Schlatt side.
“Hey kid you have fun visiting old man Phil?” Schlatt asked mindlessly still looking at the documents.
“Yeah” Tubbo responded in a board tone starting to but his little horns into Schlatt side.
“Did Wil tell you to come over and bother me again” it wasn’t a question more like a statement Schlatt had already don this song and dance before.
“Yep” Tubbo replied popping the “p” still butting his head agents Schlatt side. He suddenly stopped looked up and suddenly remembering his previous conversation with Wilbur asked “Dad were doing I come from?”
Schlatt posed for a long minuet before replying “We crafted you out of wool,” in a tired voice.
“Really!?” Tubbo exclaimed only receiving a nod of confirmation.
He was still blown away when Wilbur came into the living room saying it was chocolate time.
Tubbo quickly got distracted after that, both of them annoying Schlatt before he agreed to joying them and spending a quite evening together.
Tubbo gave a slight smile at the memory continuing forward on the path leading away from Snowchester. He was a man on a mission after all.
Today was the day and Tubbo was not going to leave his parents in peace until he got his answer.
