Work Text:

The Chefs were making food for the guests as usual, while Mono stayed on a table and watched them. Watching the two had become a game to him, especially when one had started arguing with the other in classic sibling fashion. But what he loved most was watching the Chefs make soup, throwing in whatever was around (sometimes even a Nome or two which always made Mono slightly sick) and it coming out delicious. He wanted to try that!

So he did. He went over to one of the free stoves and grabbed a pot full of water and set it on there, being extra careful with turning on the fire. He then set to work, grabbing pretty much anything he could grab and throwing it in the pot. He grabbed a ladle and stirred it around, like the Chefs do. It was turning out great!

Chef 1 looked over at Mono and waddled over to him, squealing curiously at the pot Mono was stirring up. "I'm making soup like you guys!" Mono said happily and showed the Chef his pot. He called for his brother to come over and look at it as well.

The Chefs looked in the small bubbling pot Mono was cooking in. The soup was black and had vegetables and meat floating on the surface. Spices and seasoning were sprinkled everywhere, and it looked somewhat okay. Mono pointed at the spoons on the table and smiled. Well, it couldn't be that bad right? The Twins took one each and scooped up some of the soup and tasted it.

Oh.

Oh.

That was just wrong.

How could someone make something so.... putrid?

They gagged on the food and almost spat it out, but the look on Mono's face made them choke on it. It was the boy's first time, it wouldn't be perfect. But god... did it have to be so slimy and have so much pepper?

Mono beamed happily as the Chefs forced the disgusting food down their throats. "I'm so happy you like it!" The boy cheered, taking the spoon and stirring up more of the vile liquid. "I'm gonna make more!"

The Chefs squealed and took the spoon and spices away from the boy, ignoring his protests. They refused to eat anything that disgusting again. They had standards after all.

But it was to no avail. Mono kept making small dishes every once in a while, much to the Chefs dismay. They started throwing the food out behind Mono's back so the boy wouldn't have his feelings hurt, and they had hoped it would work but Mono sighed when one of the Chefs forced some more black soup down their throat. "You don't have to eat it, I know it's disgusting." Mono told him and his brother. The Chefs would have cheered if not for the sad look on the boy's face. "I just wanted to be like you guys and make dishes for everyone."

The Chefs picked up Mono and chirped and squealed to him. He was like them! They loved him! The First Chef held the boy while the Second rubbed him on his head happily. Mono giggled and smiled at the two of them with joy. "Thanks guys." The Chefs nodded and smiled underneath their masks as they set Mono back down on the table as they worked.

The boy wandered over the table as he watched The Chefs cook for the Guests. Mono yelped as he suddenly tripped over the jar of pepper and landed right into the rucksack of flour. He dug himself out of the powder-y mess and looked up at the two chefs who looked at them with seemingly disappointment. "Uh, it was a Nome." Mono said swiftly, but the two of them didn't believe him. Chef 2 had a look of "Really?" all over his face, Mono could tell even without the mask. The boy laughed nervously as he was scooped up into one of the Chef's hand and then dunked into a sink filled with soapy water. Mono sighed.

Well, he couldn't cook. Or bake. But at least he would be clean.
