It Gets Better

Summary:

Fundy isn't okay and its starting to get obvious...

Work Text:

Based on It Gets Better By Rex Orange County

TW; Blood, Panic Attacks, Violence, Unsafe binding

Fundy woke up with an aching in his body, his legs hurt, his chest in indescribable pain. The fox hybrid looked around the unfamiliar room he was in, the walls were made of obsidian, the bed he was in was unfamiliar. Where was he? The last place he remembered being in was the prison, no, no… In a cell with Dream… All he could remember was Dream kicking and beating the everlasting shit out of him… and blood. he remembered a lot of blood.

Fundy threw the black covers off of him, he had a feeling he knew where he was once his eyes started to adjust to the very dim lighting of the room he was in.

The room was simple, a sink to wash up, a bed to sleep...Iron bars to...Wait, iron bars? Something was up. Why the hell was Fundy in a room with iron bars? Was he in a prison cell? “Sam!” The fox hybrid called out, his ears folded on his head and his tail semi tucked in between his legs. “Sam! Why am I in a cell?” Fundy yelled out, concern laced throughout his voice. “Sam! Please!” As Fundy cried out he could hear muffled footsteps rushing towards his cell. The longer Fundy was in the cell the more he started to worry and soon that worry turned into a downward spiral of gasping for air and choking out sobs.

What if he was trapped in here?

It was getting harder and harder to breathe the longer he was trapped. It felt as if the walls were crushing him. Fundy let out small very audible moans and whines which made the footsteps start rushing.

What if he was trapped here forever?

What if no one was coming?

What if those footsteps were coming to hurt him?

What if? What if? All these questions flooded the fox-hybrids mind causing him to spiral even more. Choked-out sobs escaped his mouth as he clawed at the obsidian walls.

Out.

He needed to get out.

Out.

Fundy could feel blood spilling out his nails and fingers the more he clawed at the wall. “Sam please!” Fundy cried out once more, the mental and physical pain that Fundy was feeling was immeasurable. He felt trapped, he felt like an animal (No pun intended) caged in. The clawing and scratching continued and continued till a tall figure appeared at the door.

“Fundy...Shhh” The tone was hushed and soft, it was like...It was like his dad’s. Over his sobs and whines, he could hear keys jingling and a small click.

Sam’s POV

I could see Fundy clawing at the obsidian wall blocking him in, blood was pouring from his nails, his ears folded over, his tail was hidden in between his legs.

He looked just as helpless as he did in the cell with Dream.

I entered the cell and crouched down next to Fundy. “Fundy, c’mere” I murmured, pulling him into a hug. I feel his arms wrap around my torso. He was like a scared child. “Wwhy am I hhe-here” He sobbed out into my chest, this was so unexpected from him, yet it felt so… So familiar.

“Fundy, I put you here so you could rest in a bed, you’ve been out cold for a couple days” I hovered my hands over Fundy’s back, as my hands met his rib cage I could feel him let out a small wince. I thought I addressed all of his wounds. “No-not there it..it hurts..” Fundy mumbled as he pulled away from me.

Nobody’s POV

“Fundy we need to get your ribs fixed up, or you could get seriously hurt” Sam tried to look at Fundy directly, but the hybrid just looked away in shame. “Fundy, please, I just want to help you, I'm not gonna hurt you” Sam spoke softly, his warden persona completely erased. Fundy let out a small sigh and scooted closer to Sam once more. “I won’t fucking forgive you if you hurt me” Fundy mumbled as Sam reached out his hands to feel around his ribs.

As Sam’s hands met the hybrid's torso he let out a small shudder and wince of pain. “Fundy” Sam paused, there was no way Dream could’ve hurt him that badly, right? “I’ve barely even touched your ribs, let alone your torso” Fundy once again looked away from Sam in shame and fear… “I'm not in pain, Sam” Fundy whimpered out as he tried to suppress his winces, it hurt.. but he couldn’t… Sam would look at him differently if he did, right?

“Fundy, you are though, I can see it” Fundy sighed … ‘Change the fucking topic!’ His mind screamed, anything to avoid that conversation again. “Sam, what happened after I passed out?” There was no use...Fundy wasn’t gonna budge, there was nothing Sam could do to make Fundy let him help.

“I came rushing in...Dream begged for you to stay. I eventually caved and he surprisingly was very loving towards you, we sat for a good 20 minutes in silence as Dream petted your ears and tail” Fundy blushed at the mention of Dream giving him any sort of physical attention. ‘No… this has to be a lie right? Dream even said that he doesn’t love me... Sam is just lying to me…’ “Why are you lying to me, Sam?” Fundy looked down at his lap, tears brewing in his eyes. “Don't fucking lie to me Sam!” Fundy choked out. “I’m not that fucking stupid to believe that bullshit again!” Now that Fundy thought about it, his whole life was built on lies.

Wilbur promised to be there for him.

Lies.

Eret promising that they’d come and adopt Fundy.

Lies.

Dream promising to love him forever.

Fucking lies.

Everything was built on lies and unspoken promises. Fundy couldn’t think of one happy relationship made solely out of love.

Tubbo and Ranboo.

Married because of tax and money.

Sam and Ponk.

Together for protection.

Karl, Sapnap, and Quackity.

Engaged because of jealousy. Big Q didn’t even seem to be in the picture anymore anyways…

Love was just bullshit.

Promises were just words that make life seem easier.

Why couldn’t Fundy go back to the old days when he and Dream first started to date. The war was no longer a worry for anyone but tensions were still high due to the death of someone everyone held very close.

Oh, what Fundy would give to go back to 18. Back then he was ignorant, in need of someone to distract him from post-war.
.
.
.
18… Today was the day he was turning 18.

The hybrid threw the orange silk sheets off of him, today was his birthday and his newly found best friend said he had something planned for him. As the hybrid was taking off his night he could feel a small buzz coming from his pant pocket, Fundy fished his communicator out to see a message from Dream.

Dream <3
Meet me at L’manberg square

Fundy smiled at the message, whenever he saw that the masked man messaged him his heart fluttered. Did he really have it that bad for Dream? Surely not right? Fundy clenched his communicator tightly in his hand as he looked into the full length mirror the joy that filled his face slowly faded. Everyday when he gets dressed there’s a constant reminder that he will never be male and will always be a female whether he liked it or not, that stupid chest will always be a reminder of that.

Some days dysphoria would be really bad and some days it wouldn’t plague his mind.

Fundy just let out a sigh and slipped his binder on with ease and continued to get dressed. As the hybrid ran his fingers through his hair he could hear another buzz coming from his communicator.

Another message from Dream.

Dream<3
Get your ass to the square furry boy

Fundy smiled at the message and replied.

Fundy
I'm coming jeez

As soon as the message was sent, Fundy zipped down the stairs quickly grabbing his hat and putting it on his head.

Once Fundy stepped out the door he remembered something he was meaning to give to Dream and now was the perfect time for it to be given. Fundy dashed back into the house running back up the stairs and into his room, it was right where it was supposed to be right on his desk.

It was a letter of sorts.

A letter that Fundy had all the words engraved into his mind. Fundy grabbed the letter and held it tightly towards his chest.

Today was the day he was gonna give this to Dream no matter what.

With his letter in toe the hybrid dashed down the stairs and out the door to L’manberg square to meet Dream, as Fundy ran down the street his faced filled with bright blush and his heart was pounding at a mile a minute, as Fundy neared the square the figure of the masked man came into his sight line.

Fundy ran up to the masked man panting and gasping for air.

“Whoa calm down furry boy” Dream spoke a small laugh escaping his mouth as he looked Fundy up and down.

Dream’s voice was like a work of music that he could listen to on repeat for hours and never get bored of, the hybrids tail started to wag as his amber eyes met the ‘eyes’ of Dream’s mask. This caused Dream to let out another small laugh. “Well you’re clearly happy to see me, aren’t you?”

“Oh shut up”

Fundy let out a small fox-like giggle and Dream just sighed. “Happy birthday you furry” Dream brought his hand up to meet the hybrid's hair and ruffled it, his hand accidentally gilding across Fundy’s ears which resulted in him letting out a small yip sound.

“We..Well!” Fundy stuttered out, now was the time. “Dr-Dream...I uhm..uh” Fundy’s face flushed a deep red color as he stumbled over his words, the letter clenched tightly in his hands behind his back. “He..here..”Fundy quickly pushed the letter into Dream’s chest while looking down at the floor, avoiding all possible eye contact.

Dream took the letter hesitantly, it was strange for Fundy to be all nervous like this. In one hand Dream held the letter the other hand hesitated over the hybrid’s head. “Calm down Fundy” Dream’s hand rested on Fundy’s head slowly stroking his hair.

“R-Read...It” Fundy mumbled quietly.

Dream let out a small ‘mhm’ sound, he brought the hand with the letter up to his face and started to read, the hand on Fundy’s head not leaving.

As Dream read the letter his face flushed a light pink shade. “Fundy, I…” The masked man’s voice trailed off.

How could he possibly respond to this letter?

Fundy could feel Dream’s hand move down to the side of his cheek. “Show me that little happy face” Fundy’s head slightly lifted, his face was painted a shade of red, but he looked...sad. His ears were folded over and his eyes looked scared. “You..didn’t re….” Fundy mumbled the rest of his sentence turning into completely incomprehensible words.

Did he just get rejected?

Surely not….Right?

Right..?

Tears started to well in Fundy’s eyes, small tears quickly turned into quiet sobs. “Fundy… Don't cry” Dream’s voice was comforting, it was soft and inviting. Without even thinking Dream wrapped his arms around the hybrid and pulled him into a hug, he could feel Fundy’s tears starting to wet his hoodie but it didn’t seem to bother him.

Fundy’s sobs were choked out as Dream continued to hold him in a warm embrace. “Fundy” Dream whispered. “Tell me why you’re upset” Fundy just shuttered in response.

All the hybrid could do was let out sobs and whimper, he was so weak…

“Shhhh, Fundy, it's gonna be ok” Dream pulled Fundy closer to his chest as he rested his head on Fundy’s, he just continued to sob and sob and sob.

Then it clicked with Dream.

It clicked.

“Fundy… I… I didn’t” Dream felt Fundy bury his face into his chest, small sobs still escaping his mouth. “Fundy… I… I didn’t… mean it like that…” The blonde continued to fumble over his words, how could he explain this? “I..I..Just...I dont...Please” Dream brought his head up from the hybrid's hair to bend down to lock eyes with Fundy. “It's just a little sudden, Fundy, y’know?” Fundy gave the masked man a small nod. “Give me some time to think” Dream gave Fundy a small smile before bringing his hand up to his cheek and wiping away the tears.

“Do you wanna go to Nikki’s bakery? I’ll get ya something for your birthday” Dream spoke, nothing but care laced through his voice.

Fundy let go of Dream and gave a small nod.

And off they went to Nikki’s bakery.
.
.
.
Sam reached out his hand towards Fundy but he just slapped it away. “Sam take me away from this gods damn hell hole!” Fundy shouted.

He didn’t wanna be here anymore..

He wanted home…

Sam just sighed and got up. “Fundy, lets go” His cold warden persona was back… His keys jingled as he opened the door for Fundy to leave and jingled once more as he locked the cell. Sam guided the hybrid to the main lobby, both not speaking a word the entire trip.

As Fundy left the prison a small thought plagued his mind.

Maybe he does love me.

Fundy started to walk towards the shell of a rebuilt community house. The fox sighed, everything was crumbling in front of him, literally and figuratively.

Fundy made his way down the prime path and on the way to his grandadza’s house. Why was he going there of all places? He couldn’t answer that...The hybrid just continued to walk down the path until he reached the nether portal, the hot fiery air of this hell-scape, he continued to walk down the path of cobblestone till he reached the portal leading to his grandadza’s house.

When he stepped through the portal the cold air hit his face causing him to let out a small shutter.

He should just turn back…

Phil is just gonna turn him away.

But the hybrid just continued to walk towards the cabin anyways… As he walked closer he sighed.

He should turn back now, Phil never wants him around anyways…

No…

As Fundy neared the cabin he could feel himself growing numb and hungry. “Shit..” His entire body shivered, everything around him was growing cold and blurry, his stomach rumbled but he continued walking towards the cabin till he fell over into the cold snow.

Everything around him felt warm, silk sheets wrapped his entire body with comfort, the air felt warm and his mind felt at ease.

Wait, something was wrong…

This wasn’t Fundy’s bed.

The fox hybrid shot up out of the bed and looked around, this place was different...It sure as hell wasn’t Phil or Techno’s house. As the fox hybrid started walking towards the stairs an aching pain in his rib cage, Fundy let out a small yelp of pain. “Shit…” Fundy had realized something, he’d been binding his chest for over well 8 hours, the hybrid was very hesitant to take his binder off considering he had no clue where he was, and who he was with but deep down he knew it was for the best if he just took it off. And with that the hybrid stripped himself of his jacket and top and very hesitantly stripped the binder off of his chest.

This was all for the best right?

The hybrid sighed as his top met his body once again, he threw his jacket on and zipped it up, at least that would add some layers right?

The hybrid opened his inventory and inserted the binder into one of the slots.

Fundy soon spotted some stairs and walked down them hesitantly.

When he entered the room it had green and red carpet and it was cramped, very cramped, the hybrids ears twitched at the sound of what seemed like climbing and then out of nowhere a head covered in black and white hair popped out of a trapdoor. “Fundy! You’re awake!”

It was Ranboo…

Fundy stared at the enderboy in complete shock, why in Void’s name would Ranboo save Fundy?

The enderboy crawled out of the trapdoor hole and rushed over to Fundy. “Are you okay Fundy? I found you passed out near Phil’s cabin” Ranboo was clearly worried about the fox hybrid. “What were you doing all the way out here anyways, especially in no armour” Now the arctic tundra where Ranboo resided wasn’t exactly dangerous if you talk about mobs but, it *was* dangerous considering Technoblade and Philza lived there, if you go there, unwanted, uninvited and without armour you’d most likely be dead if you were caught.

But Phil would’ve spared Fundy right?

Ranboo looked at Fundy with the most sincere look, “I don't know what you’re going through Fundy but it gets better” Ranboo smiled at the fox hybrid before going back down the trapdoor into his basement.

“Huh...It gets better” Fundy mumbled before a small smile crept up his face.

“I guess it does”
