Work Text:
It was just another repetitive mission Hank does daily. Though it was a mission that requires a partner and usually he’d do it with Deimos, Sanford, or both.
Though, Deimos had gotten himself an accident in a club that involved getting kicked in the face by a drunkie. Sanford on the other hand was done with his mission which meant that he wasn’t occupied at the time.
The agency assigned him with a man named Kira Han. He was also known with other names like Doc, The Dissenter, or 2BDamned. And Hank would be damned if he didn’t know the man’s background beforehand.
It’s heard that he can do his work in a way most people don’t do but he isn’t good at combat. Hank, knowing himself, he prefers people who has decent combat skills so they don’t fuck up his pace in missions. Maybe that explains why he often chooses Sanford more than Deimos.
For this mission, he promises to himself to do most of the work and to not let the man do much.
When he met the man, Doc, he didn’t expect him to be short. He’s definitely taller than Deimos but he didn’t expect him to be much shorter than Sanford. The man didn’t seem to be holding a melee or even any firearm weapons but only a tablet and a laptop. Hank stared at the man for a longing, telling himself that if he ever dies it’s all Doc’s fault.
What felt like a minute, Hank then volunteered to drive. Doc nodded his head before entering the van in front of them.
It was then Doc went to use his laptop to type out many things. Hank would peak once, twice, or three times. to see what the shorter guy was doing.
His first peak was when Doc had brought up the location’s building and he happened to pick up a website for it. His second peak was for Doc scrolling down each and every agent that were to appear on the website. His third was him taking notes in his tablet on how many agents were in the building. Doc pinpointed the estimate on how many devices were in the building, then the number of agents, engineers, soldats, and mag agents.
“I know what you’re doing, Doc.”
“What?”
“You’re taking notes with information from the building. I’ve heard about you before with your poor memory and leg problems.”
“Well, I’m not exactly great as you, Sanford, or Deimos. I have to try finding other ways than the route you guys go for.” Doc vacillates in a stoic tone.
“Don’t fuck up the mission.” Hank said as his words of pity. Doc nodded his head before continuing taking notes. It’s been the norm Doc has to hear every time he has to work with an agent that’s stronger than him. He’s used to it though and he shouldn't be surprised that even Hank says it also. His thoughts stopped when there was an engineer in front while pointing at them with a gun.
Doc yelled over him. “Hank, stop! We’re going to run over-” It was too late. Hank has already ran over an engineer in front of him, “or we can just leave it like that.” Doc said. Hank tried starting the car again but it won’t let him drive, considering the agent he ran over.
Hank got out of the van along with Doc. To their surprise they were already at the building along with agents guarding the front. Hank opened the back of his van to grab a firearm and a melee weapon to kill the agents. He was stopped by Doc’s arm blocking his way.
Hank’s eyes directed at Doc. “Hey, Hank. Do you see that agent over there?”
Hank scoffs. “What are you going to do?”
“You do see the chat, right?” Oh, it was one of those methods Doc has used that Hank had heard before. Though not surprised he nodded his head. “Okay, now I’m going to tell them to kill the soldats for me.”
“You do know that I can just kill them myself.” Hank insisted with the grenade at his hand, not wanting to waste his precious time.
“I know, but I thought it would be funny.” Doc said as he continued typing from his tablet. The agent seems to get the message and starts shooting the soldats. Doc snickered a little and Hank admits, it was a bit funny to see this. Though the moment came to an end when they caught the person approaching at them.
The person along with agents went to attack them but Doc snatched the grenade from Hank’s hand and threw it at them. Within seconds they were as gone as the other agents.
Hank looked at the dissenter with a bit of a surprise. Doc grabbed his tablet from the ground to type and verbally say out loud. “G-E-T fucked lol.” He then added a ‘:D’ emoticon and sent it after. The man expressed more emotion through his messages than in real life. Hank had to admit that it was kind of cute seeing Doc enjoying his job.
“Doc, look behind you!” Hank said, about to grab his AK-47. Though Doc looked behind himself and grabbed the knife that was approaching him. He used the knife to stab at the agent’s head and watched them fall down to the ground.
Doc threw the knife on top of the dead agent’s body. Though he missed and it landed to the ground. The man looked back at Hank. “Yeah I know how to work around this job. I’m not stupid.” Though Hank wasn’t sold by that.
When they get through the door, it wouldn’t automatically open for them. Fuck. He remembered that this month the A.A.H.W had upgraded their doors.
“Shit. Can’t get here-” He said but the door had suddenly opened. He turned his head to Doc who was holding the agent’s body. So it appears that the A.A.H.W can only scan its agents instead of strangers.
“You’re welcome.” He said. Since Doc couldn’t visibly show his smile, he squinted his eyes to show that he was clearly happy about this.
“Right.” Hank said. He motioned Doc to come inside the building with him. There was a window and both men quickly ducked down. Hank peaked through it while there to be a couple of A.A.H.W members. “I’ll do this myself.”
Doc looked behind his back and sat on the table. He criss-crossed his legs and adjusted his mask. “Good. I wasn’t planning to fight with you.” And Hank agreed. He let the man stay on the table as he entered the room with a flock of agents. Along with other rooms in the building he did what he normally does and killed them. It was repetitive enough to fight as if he doesn’t care.
When he got out of his easy work, he was left off looking like a bloody mess. His goggles had blood that his vision is awfully mixed with a tint of red. He remembered that he left Doc all alone in another room. He knows Doc can handle it by himself but he is concerned about how he’s doing.
When he got there, there were ashes, guns, and blood splattered around the walls and ground. From what he assumed is that Doc was about to be exploded but he dodged it. He found a gun and took out the people that were about to attack him.
He looked at the shorter guy, who’s hand was covered in blood, writing out words in the wall spelling “Dissenter be Damned” along with punching the wall two times with his fist and smearing it down to make a cock drawing. This man was so immature that Hank was a bit impressed that he isn’t dead yet.
Doc looked back and saw the bloody mess Hank was, frowning at the sight. He wiped his hand at his vest and headed to the taller man.
“Hold still.” Doc said and Hank obeyed. Doc brought out a white cloth and cleared the blood that was in the man’s goggles. Hank appreciated it to an extent. “There. I don’t want you to fight with a blurry vision.” Hank said nothing but a noise of agreement.
“What can you do now?” Hank asked.
“I can grant access to other rooms from contacting other agents and I can probably hack my way or use agents to open other rooms.”
“Good because I wasn’t going to do that myself.” Hank said, paralleling the words that Doc said a while ago. Doc was talking about something else but Hank fixated at the person approaching behind Doc with a knife. “Stay there.” He said, then pulling the trigger to shoot the agent behind Doc. Doc looked behind and watched the person falling behind him.
“Nice shot.” Doc said with a little thumbs up. The ceiling then rumbled and then there were large stomping noises. “Shit.”
In front of them the door was opened to reveal a large Mag Agent. It was larger than Hank and Doc combined and they were angry.
When Hank looked back, Doc was nowhere to be found. A few seconds ago he was in the same room with him but now he was gone. Hank knew that this would happen. And he didn’t blame him for one bit.
Fighting Mag agents were his weak points. No one in the A.A.A can’t beat one without a serious injury. He ran at the Mag agent but his whole body was thrown to the wall and then walked forward to kill him.
Hank grabbed the gun beside him and shot the Mag. He got his sword and made attempts to slice them. He really fucking hates Mag agents.
Their whole body was grabbed by the agent. He couldn’t move enough to get out. Though, the dusts of the popcorn ceiling rained below them. As there were large thumps coming from the ceiling, Hank was getting close for his whole spine to be split in half.
The process was interrupted when one of the ceiling tiles fell, along with a couple of weapons and a familiar dissenter coming down with it. It was Doc. Doc came down and used the sword he was holding to stab the top of the agent’s head.
The Mag agent roared and let Hank go to get the sword out. The agent also grabbed Doc who was still on top of the head and was about to rip his spine out. Hank looked below and grabbed one of the weapons that Doc must’ve brought with him to shoot the large hands.
The hand bleed as Doc was released from its grip. Doc’s bad leg was the first to land down, receiving a yell that pained Hank’s ears. Doc stayed on the ground, not moving and focusing on his injury.
“Doc!” Hank yelled. Though Doc didn’t seem to listen to him as he grabbed the VSS Vintorez that Hank assumed that Doc brought with him in the van.
The Mag agent went back to Doc and grabbed his bad leg. But the trigger was already pulled and the bullet went straight out of the agent’s head. Hank took that as his que to grab the sword to stab the hand until it was able to release the leg. He carried Doc’s body in time for the Mag Agent to fall in front and to not crush them.
For a while, the Mag agent didn’t move a single muscle. Hank didn’t even know what to even process. It just happened so fast that it surprised him that he was doing previous stuff before it led to this.
He was even surprised that Doc didn’t leave him entirely but only left just to be ten steps ahead of him. He was impressed at the dissenter who managed to win over his low expectations. Doc let out a chuckle.
“Gottem.” He said so quietly, but was filled with triumph. Hank deadpanned at the man, then Doc laughed harder at how done Hank looked.
“Doc you’re hurt and this is what you have to say?” Doc didn’t listen and just snorted.
“Just wrap some bandages over my fucking leg. I can magically recover once we get back to the van.” He reassured him. Hank didn’t say anything but brought out the bandages and antiseptic that he happened to bring in his pocket. He wiped out the bacteria in his left leg and then went to go wrapping the bandages. He remembered the scream Doc left out a while ago, and it was something that he never wanted to hear again.
Hank admitted themself that he had underestimated the man. Though he didn’t realize that he said it out loud until he heard the man forgive him. Hank went silent but continued wrapping bandages, saving the embarrassment for another time.
When he was done he asked him. “Are you okay?” For a response, Doc tried getting out of the ground. Hanks gets up along with him just in case he falls down.
“I’m recovering.” He replied. The two men stood around the room in silence.
“... Let’s go now.” Hank said, seeing that Doc nodded his head. “Tell the agency that we’ve completed the mission.” Doc nodded again, then grabbing the weapons from the ground to bring with him along the tablet that was strangely hanging around at the table.
Hank notices the lack of follow Doc has due to his decline of walking. He offered to carry him but Doc turned the offer down, saying that he’s already had a bunch of stuff to carry and to not add any weight. Hank found it bullshit and told Doc to give him some of the heavy stuff, which Doc did find nice. Hank would wait for Doc to catch up if he felt like he’s farther than expected.
They headed back to the van and for the first few minutes were silent. As for Hank to focus on the road and Doc typing on his laptop about what happened. Doc then went to his tablet and found out that his camera was still on record, then stopping the recording process.
“Shit I didn’t expect my tablet to record the fight. And both of us look… badass... when fighting that agent. Mind if I post it?” Hank shrugged his shoulders as a ‘why not’ and told Doc to crop out the part where he tends his wounds. Doc agreed but said that he’ll keep it in the gallery just in case like blackmail.
Hank doubted that anything between them would cause blackmail but he let him for the sake of his enjoyment. He felt like he owed him something after his previous statements.
Maybe Doc wasn’t good at strength as Sanford or Hank. Or not as good computer skills like Sanford. But he was indeed strategic for a man who had not many other options.
“How about I can take you out on a… a bar… drinks are on me…” He said. He admits, he finds Doc to be interesting seeing how he takes his job. He honestly wants to see more of the man and what he’s like.
“Are you asking me out on a date?” He asked.
“...Yes…”
“Okay, though I’m not very much a drinker.” Hank sighed in relief. He was glad that Doc wasn’t as much as a drink unlike Deimos and Sanford was.
“Me neither. How about we can go to my apartment? I uh… I’d like to talk to you.” He offered instead, cursing internally in his head on how bad his social skills were.
“That would be nice.” Doc replied.
