Gum pain

Luz sighed as she walked through the front doors of Hexide.

It had been barely a week into her last year of magic school, in a few months she would finally graduate and get her long awaited palisman.

The first human to graduate from a magic school....

The idea filled her with illusion and pride, it had not been an easy road, she and her friends had gone through unspeakable obstacles just to be able to obtain peace.

After discovering the plans of the emperor Belos to rebuild the portal, it took them almost two years of strategy, planning and new glyphs to manage to overthrow (or well... Kill... Kill? Did they kill him? Luz was never sure if he was alive or was more like some sort of living dead entity feeding on magical energy stolen from his sacrifices.... But hey! The point is that Belos no longer exists!) to the bloodthirsty mass manipulator, the people of the boiling islands had revolted and taken justice for decades of oppression, it took a little longer to rebuild the city and a new government led by Lilith, (Eda wanted nothing to do with ruling an island.) And a little longer to repair the original portal with Eda's help, with its small door and its key adorned by an eye.

Luz was about to turn 17 when she finally got to see her mother again, the poor woman cried, and it took her a while to realize that it was not a hallucination and that her daughter was at the door of her house.

Never had a hug expressed so much pain and joy at the same time.

Luz explained everything to her mother, and although at first she thought she had gone crazy and invented a witches story to deal with the trauma of kidnap, the magic door manifesting in the middle of her living room made her doubt, crossing it and arriving at a cluttered hut where there was a white-haired woman with mismatched colored eyes and pointed ears who introduced herself as Luz tutor on the boiling islands made her question if she was really hallucinating, finally the owl-tube talking through the window and the little … Dog? Talking with a skull for a helmet and a sharp, painful pinch in her side finally convinced her that her daughter was really trapped in a parallel universe of demons and witches.

Despite all the madness and suffering she had gone through because of losing her little Luz, Camila couldn't help but rejoice (AND be terrified) to know all that Luz had accomplished, giving freedom to an entire population, do magic and have adventures as she had always dreamed of, but of course, only Luz could manage to literally travel between universes to a world full of magic.

Camila, above it all, was proud of the wonderful family and friends Luz had obtained.

They were a little eccentric, a little weird and of a different species, but they were a perfect fit for her very special daughter.

Camila spent an entire week on the boiling islands, getting to know what her daughter’s home for almost three years had been.

Willow was charming, a tender and kind little witch with whom Luz had connected as soon as she met her (instantly! It was almost beyond belief!) and with whom she had created very deep bonds that helped them grow and face their fears together.

Gus was the youngest in the group, a wonderful and enthusiastic young boy who kept asking questions about how microwaves and buses worked in the human world, writing down everything Camila told him and being amazed by every little answer to his endless questions.

And then, there was Amity...

Luz filled her with information about her, how she had gone from being hated and rejected to become her best friend, how they had defeated a nightmare monster with a dance, how Amity stood up to her parents along her siblings when they allied with Belos during the revolution, that Amity was the most talented witch in Hexide, that they had a book club and both loved the good witch Azura, and hundreds of other things.

When she finally met the young girl with copper and aquamarine hair she was worried about how red her face was and how much she stuttered when she spoke, but after a few minutes and after telling her how much Luz had told her about her, the girl calmed down and Camila was surprised of how different she was from her daughter, much more serious and careful with her words and actions, measured and respectful and even cautious when speaking, and yet, despite being so different, Amity looked at her daughter as if she was the most precious treasure when she thought no one was looking, laughed at every absurd joke that escaped Luz's mouth and blushed every time she invaded her personal space, which happened too often, even for Luz.

One would have to be blind or as clueless as Luz, not to notice what was going on between those two.

And that was what had finally convinced Camila.

When by the end of the week Luz asked her to allow her to finish her studies at Hexide, Camila did not even hesitate to agree.

Luz was more than surprised; she was prepared to beg.

But how could she refuse?

Her little girl had found a place where she fit in perfectly without changing a single hair on her, she had overthrown a government, she had become one of the most prestigious students in a school of magic, she had gained wonderful friends who were willing to risk their lives for her.

She had even found someone who loved her and wanted to share every second with her. (Even if her innocent daughter didn't yet realize it.)

Separating her from all that would be selfish.

So, with the promise to visit her every weekend and stay during holidays and vacations, Luz was able to return to the boiling islands and continue her witchcraft studies.

What a journey, Luz could hardly believe all that she experienced when she had just turned 18 a few months ago.

“Hey Luz, good morning." Greeted an enthusiastic Willow as Luz tickled her locker.

“Hi Willow! You look very happy today." Luz replied as she picked up her books.

“My devoratrix bestias bloomed this morning, Professor Salix is going to give me an prize for my outstanding performance." Announced Willow, jumping up and down with joy.

“Oh, not bad for half a witch Willow!" Luz exclaimed, raising her hand.

Willow laughed at her old nickname and high fived Luz's palm.

“Thanks, Luz, none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for you, I'm glad I met you.”

"I'm glad I met you too Willow!” The human exclaimed, wrapping the witch in a suffocating embrace.

A bloodcurdling scream interrupted the conversation.

“Well, I'm off to class." Willow announced. "See you at lunch.”

“Wait! Have you seen Amity? I didn't see her when I came in and we usually walk to abominations class together.”

“Oh! She's toothing. She didn't tell you?”

“Moving? She's leaving Blight Manor?”

Willow laughed.
“No Luz, she's toothing..." Willow uttered a little yelp and looked at the clock biting her wrist, "Sorry Luz, I better hurry, it would look bad if I were late for class today.”

The green-sleeved witch walked away almost running towards the Hexide greenhouses.

Luz sighed and walked towards her class.

Once at her desk in the back of the classroom, Luz turned her right arm and touched the small tattoo on her wrist.

A light scroll appeared in her hands and Luz searched through her frequent contacts for the chat with Amity, they had spoken just the night before and Amity hadn't mentioned anything about missing the next school day.

´Hey, is everything okay, why didn't you come today?´

Luz lowered her scroll and looked to the front where the professor was talking about a topic she had already studied with Amity last week, since she already knew what was going to be covered in class, she didn't pay much attention.

Her scroll buzzed.

´I'm a bit sick, I decided not to go to class today.´

´Oh... Willow told me you were moving?´

´Ugh, Willow doesn't know how to keep a secret.´

´You're secretly moving out?´

´Hahahah!´

´No Luz, I'm not moving out.´

´I'm toothing, my ivory fangs are growing.´

´OH, THAT'S NEAT, WITCH SHARP FANGS!´

´...´

´And why is it a secret?´

´...´

´Come to think of it, I never actually told Willow

that it was a secret."

´Haha, in fact Willow was shocked when I told her
you hadn't told me anything.´

´And now that I think about it, why didn't you told me?´

´I thought I was your best friend :c´

´You are!´

´It's just that...´
´It's a witch thing...´

´I'm a witch too! >:c´

´Luz! You know what I mean! >:c´

´:c´

´I know, I know.´

´But I don't understand what's wrong with me
Knowing that you're growing fangs.... :c´

´It's not that I wanted to hide it from you.´

´I just...´
´Didn't want you to worry?´

´Worry?´

´SHOULD I WORRY?!´

´No!´

´Ugh´

´This is exactly what I wanted to avoid´

´There's nothing wrong with me Luz´

´I'm going back to class tomorrow.´

´Oh, thank goodness.´

´But still´

´Why did you miss today?´

´I never missed a day of school when I grew
permanent teeth.´

´I guess It must be different for humans...´

´Ivory fangs sprout and grow very fast.´

´It's...´

´Quite painful.´

´Oh :c´

´And isn't there something to help with your pain?´

´There are a few methods...´

´But none of them have really helped me much...´

´It only lasts four days anyway...´

´My baby fangs fell out on Friday
and the ivory ones started to sprout on Saturday.´

´But I'd be lying to you if I told you the pain is bearable.´

´The last day is when it hurts the most.´

´Ouch! :c´

´I wish there were something I could do to help you´

´Don't worry, I'll be better tomorrow. c:´

´Just help me with today's class notes and homework, please.´

´You got it! :3´

“MISS NOCEDA!”
“Wah!" Luz exclaimed, frightened and disappearing her scroll.

“Since it seems that you already know perfectly well today's topic, why don't you go to the front and write down the elemental components and collection methods for abominations?”

Luz smiled confidently and moved to the board.

At lunch Luz was not as lively as usual.

“Luz, are you all right?” Gus asked as he finished a bite of his sandwich.

The brunette sighed.

“Yes, I'm fine, I'm just a little worried about Amity.”

“Oh.” Willow said this time. "Did you talk to her?”

“Yeah, she told me she's growing ivory fangs.”

“Really?" Exclaimed Gus excitedly. "Oh my, we're on the road to adulthood! My friends are starting to lose their baby fangs!”

“Yes..." Luz conceded dejectedly. "I guess it's a nice experience, but Amity told me that it hurts a lot.”

“Oh! If it hurts, she just needs to bite…”

“A scarlet apple!" Willow interrupted as she choked Gus with his own Sandwich. "The ones they make apple blood with? They're really good for pain!”

Luz was so distracted that she didn't notice the strange scene her friends were making.

“Well... Amity told me that she had tried a few things, and nothing helped her..." said Luz while rubbing her chin. "Toothache... Toothache...”

“It would be more like gum pain, wouldn't it?” Gus added.

“That's it!" Exclaimed Luz triumphantly. "Gum pain like a baby's! I know what to do!”

Luz touched the tattoo on her wrist and her scroll appeared in her hands.

´Hey...´

´Are you there?´
´°w°´

Luz told them about her awesome plan with a human method for gum pain.

Her friends exchanged a weirded look.

But before luz could explain further, his scroll buzzed.

´Yes, I am.´

´What is it?´

´I have something that can help you with the pain!´

´It's a human method that has worked for generations!´

´Oh yeah?´

´What is it?´

´It's a method with a golden liquid that is highly prized
in my world :D ´

´Eda has a bottle at home´

´I'll come to your house after class and show you how to do it c:´

´Oh!´

´D:´

´I'm not really sure if it's a good idea for you to come over today.´

´Why not? :c´
´Uh...´

´The pain has me in a very bad mood...´

´I'm unbearable...´

´I don't want to be rude to you...´

´I don't think it's that bad...´

´Besides, I know how to handle your bad moods very well ;)´

´If you were so annoyed you wouldn't even answer my texts :3´

´...´
´I don't know Luz...´

´I don't want you to waste your afternoon with my sore gums.´

´Being with you is not a waste! >:c´
´How could you call me
your best friend if I'm not with you through thick and thin?!´

´...´

"So...?"

´...´

´Okay, I'll see you in the afternoon.´

´Yeeeeeei! <3´

Luz flicked her wrist again and the scroll disappeared as a warm smile appeared on her lips.

“Amity?" Willow asked with an arched eyebrow.

“Yes! I'm going to see her this afternoon to help her with her sore gums!”

Willow's face broke into a mischievous grin.

“Oh~ I bet you will.”

A piercing cry was then heard.

“Well, I guess we won't see you after class then." Willow said as she lifted her tray.

“Ah... No, sorry." Replied Luz as she touched her hair awkwardly.

“No problem." Gus dismissed.

“Good luck with Amity~." Willow chirped one last time before they each went to their respective classes.

The rest of the day passed slowly.

VERY slowly.

Luz was eager to get out of class and find Amity, every minute that passed she couldn't help but imagine the pain her best friend must be going through.

She hoped the method her grandmother taught her would work.

When classes were over Luz went quick to drop her books in the locker and then hurriedly ran to the Owl house.

Eda had a cabinet full of bottles that she never touched; she was sure she would have what Luz was looking for.

When she got home, she was almost out of breath.

“Hi Luz, hoot hoot! How was school?”

“Hello Hooty." Luz said casually, pushing the door. "Eda, I'm home!”

“Eda and King went to the beach!”

“Oh... Well, I'll look for it myself.”

Luz entered the house and went up to Eda's room, where the cabinet she was looking for was located.

She opened the glass door and began to take and look at the glass bottles until she found one almost full of a golden, crystalline liquid.

The label affirmed it, but just in case, Luz opened the bottle and sniffed its contents, finally poured some of the liquid into her hand and tasted it.

Luz smiled, there was no doubt.

It was tequila.

She walked to her room and undressed from her uniform, buttoned a pair of black shorts, tied her sand-colored boots and put on her characteristic bicolor hooded cat sweatshirt, the garment was now spelled to prevent wear and tear, but the size was the same, and on Luz's almost adult body it now only managed to cover her ribs, fully exposing her slim belly.

With the bottle in hand, she set off from the owl house towards the Blight manor with an accelerated pace.

C2: Traditional methods and side effects.

´...´

´So?'

´...´

´Okay, see you this afternoon. ´

´Yeiiiiiii 3´

Amity stared at her scroll for a few moments, then sank her face into the pillow and uttered a choked frustrated cry.

Why was it so hard to say no to Luz?

Amity didn't need the human to see her tired, sore and in her pajamas, (even if it wasn't the first time she saw her like that) neither did she need her siblings to be all over them making constant innuendos and embarrassing her.

But, at the same time... Amity really wanted to see her.

Spending time with Luz always made her feel a little better, no matter how bad she felt.

It was Luz who convinced her to grow out her natural hair color despite her mother's wishes.

She attended her first Good Witch Azura convention with her, even convincing her to disguise herself for the event.

It was thanks to Luz that she no longer suffered from anxiety attacks every time she received a less than perfect grade.

When her and the twins escaped from the mansion during the revolution Luz comforted her and even let her cry for hours in her arms.

They spent many nights sleeping next to each other in the owl house, learning, planning strategies, also having fun.

They confided their deepest secrets and sufferings to one another, supported each other in their defeats and celebrated their victories together.

When her parents fled after losing the war, Luz accompanied her back to her childhood home with her siblings, invited all her friends to have a party and renovate the mansion.

That party became one of Amity's most beautiful memories.

Some time later, it was time for Luz to return to the human world.

Amity was terrified.

The witch was aware from the beginning, Luz had never stopped looking for a way to return to her world, to return to her mother.

And there had always been a chance that Luz would not return.

Between that and all the pressure of bringing down a corrupt government and preventing an invasion to the human realm, Amity had decided that Luz didn't need any more complications in her life and chose not to tell her about her feelings.

And she kept her decision even after Luz returned permanently to the Boiling Islands.

Because, despite everything, they became closer every day, getting used the habit of sleeping together and stretching their arm to find each other's body when it was cold, to intertwine the fingers of their hands when they were looking for courage or comfort, to sit on each other's lap to read a book of which they only had one copy...

And the list could go on.

They were at a middle ground where they were clearly more much more than the "best friends" they boasted so much about being... But without actually being lovers.

And how could Amity dare to ask Luz for more?

How could she risk breaking the delicate balance of their relationship when what they had was practically perfect?

And that was because the risk of being rejected didn't mean simply receiving a "I just want you as a friend" and moving on with her life, but losing all the trust they had built.

She could never again hold her hand, play with her hair, touch her round ears, at least not without making Luz uncomfortable remembering the feelings that motivated those gestures of affection.

Luz had become, without looking for it and almost by accident, the most important person in her life.

Amity was not only in love with her, but she also loved her.

She loved her more than anything else.

Luz had changed her numb life and helped her become a better version of herself.

And that was precisely why she resisted seeking more affection and commitment, asking for more and being rejected not only meant losing her favorite person in a big way, but it also meant taking Luz best friend away.

It's not as if Luz had shown her any romantic interest anyway...

"Hi sis..." whispered the chestnut's older sister, snapping her out of her thoughts. "I brought you some more apples.

Amity made a disgusted gesture and her eyes turned fleetingly to the little pile of maroon apple cores.

"Hanks, ut I an´t ake anoer one." Amity stammered trying to keep her teeth from touching each other, the pain was terrible.

"You need to eat them Mittens, the pain is only going to get worse as the day goes on." Emira announced with an empathetic semblance approaching her with an apple.

Amity took it against her will, took a small bite, and nearly vomited.

"A kan´t yeet eny ore abbles, am onna buke!" Amity exclaimed, leaving the bitten fruit with the rest of the garbage.

Em looked at her sadly.

"Hey Mittens," Edric greeted, coming through the door. "How are those fangs doing?"

"Am yired off dis shiddy bain"

"What a language! You must be in a lot of pain. Did the apples help?"

Amity shook her head. They had dulled the pain a little, but they hadn't made it bearable.

Edric winced.

"I'm so sorry for you, mittens..." Edric's face twisted mischievously. "Although... You could always ask Luz to..."

A pillow landed on his face, interrupting his words.

"No! Das ot appenning!" Amity exclaimed as she blushed.

"Ed is right Amity... The traditional method works, I say that from experience."

"Wat am I subbosed do say?! "" Hey Luz, an I blease bite you? Bitting omeone elieves de gum bain, n´u are da berson I drust de most""

"It actually sounds like a very sensible way to ask for it." Edric opined.

"I'm not going to bite Luz's neck! AGH!" Exclaimed Amity to immediately cover her mouth with a grimace of pain.

Emira laughed.

"Who said you had to bite her neck? It can be any part of the body."

" Aim ot bidding er, n das it"

"As you wish Mittens, it's your pain, not mine." Emira concluded, then turned to her twin, "Are you ready?

Edric nodded in agreement.

"U oing oud?"

"We'll go to the market to buy some things, maybe we'll find something to help with your pain, will you be ok by yourself?"

Amity nodded her head, omitting the fact that Luz was coming, to avoid the teasing of her siblings.

"Well, off we go then, see you tonight mittens!"

The twins left the room and walked down the stairs to the big gate of the mansion.

When they opened it, they were met with a surprise.

Luz herself with her fist raised as if she had been about to knock on the door.

"Oh, Luz!" Emira exclaimed. "How nice to see you!"

Both green-haired pair briefly embraced the human.

"What are you doing here?" Edric asked.

"Oh, I came to help Amity with her sore gums!"

"Sure are..." Edric muttered, to which Emira gave him a nudge that slightly stifled him.

"I brought this!" said Luz, triumphantly, as she raised the bottle. "My abuelita taught me how to take the pain out of gums many years ago!"

"And "that" is what exactly?" Emira asked, pointing to the bottle.

"It's tequila!"

"Tequila?"

"Yes! Humans drink tequila to relax and have fun, but a little bit on Amity's gums, it's going to ease the pain."

"Can I see it?" Emira asked holding out her hand.

"Sure!" replied Luz handing her the bottle.

Emira raised the glass container to her eyes and spied the golden liquid with suspicion, then opened the bottle cap and sniffed its contents.

Her eyes widened in surprise.

She then passed the bottle to Edric and gestured for him to smell it.

The boy obeyed and when he sniffed the liquid, he was also surprised.

"Woah...Luz, is this alcohol?" the green-haired boy questioned. "Did you bring it from the human world?"

Luz shuddered a little.

"Ah... Yes... " He replied uneasily. "Eda had some at home, but I didn't bring it to drink it, just for Amity to smear some on her gums."

The twins shared a knowing look.

"Oh well!" Edric announced walking through the door. "We're off."

"Take good care of mittens cutie." Said Emira as she disappeared behind the door.

Luz stood for a few moments looking at the door and questioning the strange behavior of the twins, then, walked down the hallway and up the stairs, reached Amity's room and knocked softly on the door.

"Amity?" she announced as she slowly opened the door. "May I come in?"

"UZH! Wen id u arrive?" exclaimed the flummoxed witch.

"Just now, your siblings opened the door for me before they left." Luz explained as she entered the room and set her backpack aside.

"Ait! I bidn´t know u were arriving o erly! I´m a dotal messh!" Amity exclaimed as she desperately tried to straighten her tangled hair.

Luz watched her for a moment, she was sitting on the edge of the bed, she was wearing a baggy white short, the bad girls' coven t-shirt and no shoes, her brown hair with aquamarine tips (which she acquired the habit of dyeing) was messy and tangled, her golden eyes were reddened and framed by dark circles under her eyelids, her mouth remained slightly open, she looked tired and sore.

Luz gave her a bright smile and walked over to wrap her in a careful embrace.

"Oh Amity, you know I'm always going to think you're cute, no matter how sick you are!"

She broke away from the embrace without letting go of Amity's shoulders, who was smiling warmly with a slight blush on her cheeks.

No matter how many years went by, Amity was never going to get used to Luz's sudden compliments and displays of affection, and although she no longer flinched and panicked like when they were younger, she couldn't help but blush every time.

Luz raised her hand and placed it on her cheek very gently, her gaze was full of curiosity.

"Can I see them?" She asked eagerly.

And Amity melted with affection.

She nodded her head slightly and opened her mouth a little wider.

Luz came closer and looked at the witch's mouth, separating her hand from her cheek, she touched her lips with her index finger and thumb and went over them very carefully to be able to observe the upper and lower fangs in more detail.

Amity relaxed at the contact, closing her eyes as she felt that somehow, the pain was eased.

"Wow..." Luz whispered moving closer to the point where Amity could feel her warm breath on her chin. "Amazing..."

Luz went a step further and very gently brought her thumb up to the upper fang until it brushed against it.

Amity hissed in pain and threw her head back.

"I'm sorry!" exclaimed Luz in panic bringing her hand to the brunette's cheek again.

The astonishment in her eyes was replaced with worry and guilt.

"S´okay Uzh."

"Are you in a lot of pain?" the human spoke again, stroking Amity's cheek with her thumb.

The witch nodded slowly.

Luz took a step back causing Amity to miss the contact, and went to the dresser next to the door on which she had left her satchel, picked it up, and went to sit on the bed being immediately followed by Amity, who sat close enough for their thighs to touch.

A perk of the bond of intimate friendship they had created was that Amity could get as close as she wanted, (Or as her anxiety would allow) or also, touch her at any time without the atmosphere becoming uncomfortable.

Luz took out a glass bottle with a golden liquid inside.

"Wat ish datd?" Amity asked curiously.

"Tequila! One of Mexico's great gifts to the world!"

"Exico?"

"It's a country in the human realm," Luz explained.

"Id u liv der?"

"Oh, no, I was born in the USA, my family comes from Dominican Republic, my abuelita immigrated... Well! That doesn't matter! What does matter is that this is going to help your gums stop hurting!"

Amity looked at the bottle with interest.

"My abuelita taught me a technique that relieves babies' pain when they start teething. She even did it with me when I was a baby! You just have to..." Luz pulled out the cork that capped the bottle, inserted a finger into the tip and soaked it with the liquid. "... Take some out with your finger and rub it on your gums."

Luz brought her finger close to Amity's mouth but paused in her tracks as she remembered her wince of pain when she touched her teeth.

She passed the bottle to the witch and sucked her finger clean.

"I think you better do this on your own."

Amity looked at the bottle and then mimicked Luz's actions, once soaked in the substance, she put her finger to her mouth and rubbed the liquid against her gums.

Again, she hissed in pain.

"Id urns!"

Luz touched her shoulder trying to calm her down.

"Right! It burns a little at first, but then it's going to numb your gums, sorry, I should have warned you..."

Amity nodded and went back to soaking her finger with the liquid to smear the rest of her gums.

Once finished, she gave the bottle back to Luz.

"Well, now, we wait..." Luz commented.

They were silent for several seconds while Luz looked at the bottle.

Without thinking much, she put the bottle to her lips and took a gulp, the bitter and burning liquid crossed her mouth and throat causing her to grimace.

Amity looked at her in utter disbelief.

"Wy ar u rinking id? U hav a stomachache?"

Luz snorted and laughed lightly.

"No, tequila is not medicine, it's alcohol, humans drink it sometimes for fun or relaxing."

"If ish nod medishine, how ish id supposed to helb me wid my bain?"

"Tequila on gums is un remedio casero, I already told you, my abuelita taught it to me."

"Oh… n wen do humans rink algochol?"

"Usually at parties, at dancing spots, it makes people lose their self-consciousness and feel a little braver, like to dance, or talk more freely, or to ask someone out."

Amity watched and listened eagerly.

"I've never been much of a drinker, people under 18 aren't supposed to drink according to the rules in the human realm, but my abuelita used to give me a little swig at parties ever since I turned 11... I felt like drinking a little, I don't quite know why."

Luz turned to look at Amity, who was watching the bottle with a fascinated gaze.

"You want some?" The human asked.

Amity looked up and nodded slightly.

Luz passed her the bottle again.

"Take a small swig, don't try to drink too much, it will sting, and you might get a headache afterwards, don't leave it in your mouth too long, swallow it quickly."

Amity nodded, put the bottle to her lips, leaned her head back and took a quick gulp, grimacing.

"Agh! It tastes awful and it's like drinking liquid fire!" Amity complained.

"Yeah... It's usually mixed with other stuff so it tastes better and doesn't burn as much, but you can also drink it straight."

"Yeah... I think I've had enough." Amity said, handing the bottle back to Luz.

The human laughed.

"Yeah, me too... HEY! You're talking normal already!"

Amity put her hands to her cheeks in surprise and smiled slightly.

"It seems your grandmother is very wise."

Luz laughed.

"My mami didn't take it so well when her 8-month-old daughter was given tequila." She remarked. "Does it still hurt?"

Amity sighed.

"It still hurts, but a little less." She said as she smiled warmly. "Thank you Luz."

The human beamed hugely and reached for her satchel again.

"I know I told you I would give you the notes for today's class, but the professor lectured on a topic you and I had already been studying and also he didn't give any homework, so..." Luz took a book out of her bag. "I brought this book, it's from the same author as the good witch Azura, I bought it over the weekend in the human world, do you want to read it together?"

Amity nodded and climbed onto the bed, crawling up to sit so that the headboard of the bed supported her weight, Luz followed her immediately and with all naturality sat in the hollow between Amity's legs, leaning back on her chest and tilting her head slightly so that the witch could lean her chin on her shoulder, finally, Luz opened the book where the first chapter began and they both started to read.

They had done that so many times that both Luz and Amity knew the exact moment to turn the page without interrupting the other's reading, usually being the owner of the book the one who sat in front.

The book was quite interesting, it was about a boy who had summoned a demon so he could have a friend, because his social skills were nonexistent.

Ha...!

Without the boiling islands that one could have been Luz.

They read in silence for over an hour, until Amity lifted the chin resting on Luz's shoulder and instead rested her forehead on the nape of the human's neck, letting out a warm sigh that ran down her neck.

"Are you okay?" Luz asked, touching the hand Amity had rested on the quilt.

The witch nodded against the back of her neck.

"Is it hurting?"

She nodded again.

"Do you want to rub some more tequila on it?"

"No..." Amity whispered. "I think that liquid got to me, I feel lightheaded."

"Oh!" Luz said with surprise. " Yeah, alcohol does that, but I didn't think such a small sip would have any effect on you? I don't feel anything."

"Should I be worried?"

"Nah..." Luz dismissed. "It'll wear off in a while. Do you want me to do something for you?"

Amity leaned more weight on the back of Luz's neck, causing her to tilt her head slightly.

"Can you read out loud so I can close my eyes?"

Luz smiled and squeezed Amity's hand.

"Of course." She let go of her hand and picked up the book to keep reading.

As the plot of the story progressed Luz noticed that Amity was acting a little... Different.

Soon after she started reading, Amity's arms had wrapped firmly and warmly around her waist, she was caressing her belly occasionally, she also had her nose buried in the hair at the nape of her neck, and if Luz didn't know any better, she'd swear she was sniffing her.

"Ah, sorry, I have to read this paragraph again, I got distracted!" Luz exclaimed, ashamed for getting carried away by her thoughts.

Amity responded with a murmur of approval, but before Luz could continue with her reading, her wrist shivered; She turned it over and noticed the small glyph glowing.

"Oh, I got a text, hold on!"

This time, Amity remained silent.

Luz touched her wrist and the scroll appeared in her hands.

The message was from Eda.

'Hey Luz.'

`Did you take one of the bottles from the cabinet in my room?'

Luz swallowed nervously.

'Yeah, sorry...'

'What did you take it for?'

Luz felt Amity tighten the hug she wrapped around her waist with and how her legs closed over hers, making their thighs and calves' touch.

Okay... That was new.

'I needed it for a friend.'

'Sorry for coming into your room and taking it without asking.'

'It was an emergency.'

'I'll bring you a new bottle next Monday.'

'For a friend?'

'Who asked you to get the bottle?!'

'Oh, no...'

'Nobody asked me for it.'

'I took it to give some to Amity.'

'She's growing fangs and rubbing alcohol on her gums eases the pain.'

Amity moved her nose over the back of Luz's nape, passing over her neck and bringing it right to the space under her ear, then, she inhaled slowly and deeply.

"Luz~..." She purred in the brunette's ear. "You smell so nice..."

Oh! So Amity was actually sniffing her...

Luz felt an unfamiliar and strangely pleasant shiver run through and over her.

'You gave Amity alcohol?'

Yeah, just a bit...'

'Oh, Luz...'

'Alcohol doesn't have the same effect on witches as it does on humans.'

Amity moved her hand up to take Luz's unoccupied hand, interlacing their fingers and drawing circles lazily over the back of it with her thumb.

Luz was beginning to sense that something funny was going on.

'It doesn't?'

'OH NO!'

'DID I POISON AMITY?!'

'IS SOMETHING GONNA HAPPEN TO HER?'

'Easy kid, breathe'

'Nothing bad will happen to her.'

'She'll just get a little...'

Amity let out a long sigh releasing her warm breath over Luz's ear.

'Affectionate...'

Right away Luz felt Amity lay a soft kiss under her ear...

On the side of her neck...

On the back of her head...

She lost count of how many times she had shivered.

Oh, wow...

Tequila.

Caresses and temptations.
Luz was no fool.

On her own and with experimentation and research she had managed to learn hundreds of spells, she learned to combine the elements to make them more powerful.

Fire and light? Lightning magic. Ice and wind? Blizzard. Water and earth? Mud and quicksand, and the list could go on.

The tattoos on her skin had reduced the need to constantly draw, and the various weapons with carved glyphs made her more agile in combat.

Even as she began teaching Eda and Lilith how to use the glyphs, she realized that drawing them wasn't as easy for others as it was for her.

Damn! She had even been one of the leaders of the rebellion! Emperor Belos himself, the self-proclaimed "most powerful wizard of the Boiling Isles" had fallen at her own hands!

Luz was no fool... But she was easily distracted.

And it wasn't partly her fault, when you've spent half your life being a misfit with few or virtually no friends.... Reading other people's emotions and relationships is not an easy task.

Luz could become imprudent with physical contact, and also with the words she spoke.

Luz had been surprised at the ease with which she made friendships upon arriving at the demon dimension, suddenly her ideas and concepts of fun and relationship had stopped being odd.

Eda, Willow, King and Gus accepted her almost immediately, the Blight twins were interested in her and were the first to talk to her, she could also be as affectionate as she wanted with them and there was no reluctance or displeasure.

But Amity... That was a completely different story.

Gaining the trust and friendship of the outstanding student had been a difficult task, melting her cold shell and removing her mask of a perfect and reserved young lady had taken time.

Edric had told her that Amity turned red when she got angry.... And the witch's pale skin burned crimson whenever the human hugged her or got too close.

What was she supposed to think?

If it had been so hard for her to be her friend, how could she ever imagine that Amity would fall in love with her?

Add that to the fact that Luz had never had any friends, let alone a partner....

It took a while to understand why Willow and Eda nicknamed her Luz Nocedacuenta.

Also, despite the fact that Luz knew she was bisexual since before arriving to the islands... (Because Itachi and Hinata were equally attractive...) She had never fallen in love with a girl, that had conflicted her.

By the time Luz understood and accepted her own feelings.... Amity seemed to have stopped being interested in her romantically.

The blushes, nervous words and over-reactions to physical contact stopped.

She had become used to her presence and displays of affection.

Luz had taken too long to understand.

And although her feelings for Amity were never dulled, she didn't want to risk her friendship with her in exchange for a little more physical affection.

It wasn't worth it...

Right?

With each kiss the witch placed on her neck, her conviction grew weaker.

The last one had been the longest, open mouthed, allowing Luz to feel the brush of fangs against her skin.

The scroll fell from her hand disappearing as it touched her lap and a funny sound escaped her throat at the contact, the same one that seemed to affect Amity, who squeezed her tighter as she nuzzled her nose against the human's cheek, then gently kissed her round ears.

Was this what Eda meant by affectionate? Were these the effects of alcohol on witches?

The auburn took Luz's other hand and brought it to her lips, kissing her palm gently, then clasped her intertwined hands over Luz's belly and returned her attention to the kisses on the human's neck.

This was wrong.

She had to stop her.

"A-Am.." She tried to utter, but the pleasant shivers running through her body would not allow her to articulate words, and the attempt to name the witch was camouflaged among the soft moans and sighs Luz could not contain.

This was wrong...

She had to stop her...

The witch's tender kisses gradually turned into wetter ones, Luz could feel Amity's mouth sucking the skin of her neck, moving down her shoulders....

This was wrong...

Amity's actions were a consequence of the alcohol she had drunk.

From the alcohol Luz had unknowingly given her.

She was doing it virtually against her will.

She couldn't do that to her best friend.

She had to stop her...

"A-Amity..." She managed to utter at last. "Wait..."

The auburn stopped immediately.

The human remained silent for a few seconds, not knowing how to explain what Eda had just told her.

"Luz?" The witch's husky, hesitant voice next to her ear did nothing but send another shiver straight to her nervous system.

The brunette's reactions didn't go unnoticed.

Amity was sure Luz was enjoying the contact as much as she was.

The witch felt weird sensations, her body felt warm and practically burning at the points where she had contact with Luz, her head felt light and her muscles relaxed, but above all, she wanted more than anything to touch the human in her arms.

She wanted to kiss her, to embrace her, to hold her close, and to feel her skin under her fingertips.

She wanted to hear her voice, smell her skin, her hair, drink in her essence until she was drunk on her existence.

It wasn't the first time she had felt this way, but the desire had never been so overwhelming.

And it was the first time she had ever done anything about it.... And Luz had not rejected her, but seemed to enjoy every kiss and touch.

But she had stopped her... And Amity would never dare to do anything that Luz wouldn't allow her to do.

Several seconds had passed and Luz still said nothing.

She couldn't find the words to tell Amity that everything she was supposed to be feeling was a consequence of the drink she had given her.

She was terrified of what her reaction might be.

Not to mention the fact that she really didn't want her to stop.

Amity, in a desperate final attempt to continue whatever was going on, released her grip on her left hand and brought it to the brunette's thigh.

" Luz..." She softly uttered into the human's ear as she stroked her thigh, strolling up along her hips, all the way up to her belly, then back down. "Do you... want me to stop?"

Luz remained silent, while her body responded for her by trembling and bristling the skin that lay under Amity's palms.

Without stopping her caresses, Amity kissed the human's lobe.

"Luz..." Another kiss under her ear,

"...Do you ..." One more on the back of her neck.

"...Want me ..." A fourth on the collarbone.

"...To stop?" Taking whatever rare courage she now had, the witch, with the tip of her tongue, slowly and torturously traced the outlines of the human's left ear, from lobe to helix.

A brazen, sonorous moan escaped Luz's throat, as the grip on Amity's hand tightened.

Amity's actions were motivated with alcohol...

She was virtually doing this against her will....

This was wrong...

But...

It felt so right...

Luz had wanted this for so long.... Deep down in her heart she wished ardently that Amity's caresses had a deeper reason than the effects of a foreign drink.

She could no longer resist.

Luz released the auburn's hand, causing her to stop her caresses as well, brought her hand her face, resting it on her cheek and turning her head to look at her face.

The golden eyes were darkened with desire and the intense gaze melted her insides.

"No..." Luz finally articulated. "Please... Don't stop."

And then, attracting the witch's face to hers, she brought their lips together laying all the love she felt in a chaste kiss.

Biting and restlessness

***********TW: BLOOD********* (Just a tiny bit tho, nothing really violent)

The kiss was just a brief brush of her lips against the witch's, subtle, but so full of emotion, that the auburn froze.

Seconds passed and neither of them made a move, in the quietness of Amity's room, the only thing they did was to stare at one another.

The younger Blight's golden eyes, still darkened by an inner desire, glowed with adoration.

Discreetly, or so she thought, Amity detached her hand from Luz's thigh, bringing it to her wrist and pinching the pale skin in such a way that it tinged crimson, with the future promise of a bruise.

The pain caused her to grimace and hiss softly.

Luz snorted, trying to hide a giggle.

"What are you doing?" she asked amused.

Amity remained silent for a few moments longer, until, dumbfounded, she muttered:

"I'm not dreaming..."

Luz laughed again and playfully asked her:

"What, do you dream about this often?"

"Yes..." Amity replied almost instantly. "All the time."

The bluntness of her answer shocked the human, whose skin reddened so much that the melanin did little to hide the blush.

And that was because normally Amity's pride and modesty would have prevented such an indecorous response, but this strange feeling that had taken hold of her allowed her to be brutally honest.

The auburn stared into Luz's flushed face.

A smirk crept across her face.

Luz~...-She coquettishly uttered "...why are you so red?"

The question only managed to embarrass the Latina even more.

"I-I, uh-ah, uhm..."

"Why are you stuttering?" the witch continued to provoke as she stroked the brunette's chin.

Luz was frozen, her cheeks burning and her mouth as dry as if she had chewed on sand.

Luz was no stranger to flirting, to this day the Blight twins loved to playfully tease her, always managing to tint her cheeks with a wink or a sassy word.

But she never expected to receive this kind of endearment from Amity, let alone hear such bold statements from her.

And if the twins succeeded in making her blush, Amity was about to murder her.

Killed by a stroke and a few sweet words...

Rather pathetic for the human who overthrew an empire of terror.

Although, if the electric shocks that shot through her body every time Amity's hands touched her, permanently stopped her heart....

If the sweet voice whispering her name froze the blood in her veins....

Luz was sure she would die happy no matter how pathetic it might seem.

"You're so cute..." The witch whispered sweetly bringing her face close to the human's and slowly depositing a kiss near the corner of her lips.

The brunette continued unable to say anything coherent and only closed her eyes at the touch of the witch's lips, who kissed her again, this time directly on the corner of her lips.

Amity leaned in again, very slowly bringing her lips close to Luz's, without even brushing them, without contact, causing the tanned brunette to lean in, trying to close the almost non-existent space.

Amity pulled back amidst playful giggles.

" Eager, Luz?" she asked mischievously.

The witch's constant caresses had managed to bring Luz out of her stupor and panic, sinking her into a trance-like state where she could only take in Amity's scent, touch, voice and beauty.

She briefly studied the auburn's expression, her cheeks were flushed again, her golden eyes sparkled with joy, and a smirk played on her lips peeking out her white teeth and sprouting fangs.

She was messing with her.

Luz raised an eyebrow, defiantly.

For this game, it would take two.

The Latina suddenly grabbed Amity by the collar of her shirt, pulling her to herself.

"Pretty much." she whispered against her lips, then closed the minuscule space between them.

Amity stifled a slight squeak of surprise against Luz's lips to return the kiss a moment later.

The second kiss was as full of emotions as the first one, but it manifested itself in a completely different way.

Being both inexperienced, they remained practically motionless for a few moments, but the eagerness that Amity felt, made her take the first step to turn the innocent kiss into something that would express better the blazing emotions that burned inside her.

The auburn sucked the human's lower lip between her own, resting her hand on her cheek.

Luz flinched slightly without breaking away from her lips.

They gently relished each others' lips with tender touches overflowing with affection, until Luz uttered a pained mumble and separated her lips from those of the auburn.

"I feel so uncomfortable..." The human said sheepishly.

Amity looked at her in panic and pulled her hands away immediately.

"Sorry! I'm so sorry! We can stop right now! I don't want to make you uncomfortable, let alone upset or scare you-"

"NO!" Luz snapped, then cleared her throat to conceal her desperate tone. "No, it's not that... It's just that this position is very awkward? My neck hurts..."

"Oh..." Amity whispered within a sigh as she spread her legs apart to give Luz room to move. "Sorry."

Luz leaned forward standing up, stretching her legs and back, then turned around to look at the witch again.

Amity was looking at her through her long eyelashes with the liquid gold of her irises glowing brightly, the narrowed eyelids were squarely directed at the human with a gaze full of adoration.

Luz, who had not had a chance to look Amity so directly in the eyes, was embarrassed and covered her face with her hands.

Amity snorted softly and caught Luz's attention again.

The witch stretched her arms upward, inviting the human to approach her again.

After a brief hesitation, Luz sat back down in front of the auburn, moving closer to press her thighs against Amity's, wrapping her legs around her waist.

"Is this okay?" the Brunette asked uneasily.

Amity brought both hands to Luz's back holding her gently and drawing her towards herself.

"It's perfect." She muttered in a honeyed voice.

Before Luz could even breathe with relief, the witch's lips were again on hers.

The human reciprocated the kiss immediately, hugging her best friend's neck and burying her fingers in caramel-colored locks, soft brushes of lips occurred again, again, again, again, again and again.

Amity repeated her first bold move, capturing Luz's lower lip between hers savoring it slowly, the brunette, forgetting her initial shyness responded to the kiss with fervor, pressing her lips against Amity's and sucking gently against her upper lip.

The witch felt in heaven, she could literally die in that moment and she would feel happy and grateful with her short life, Luz was in her arms responding to every kiss, every caress, and every sweet word Amity uttered.

It was everything she had wanted for years, and selfishly, she wanted more.

So she took another step forward.

Opening her mouth slightly against Luz's lips, she stuck out the tip of her tongue and traced the outline of the brunette's lower lip with it.

The unexpected move made Luz let out a gasp, which Amity took advantage of to slip her tongue inside her mouth.

The human whimpered at the sensation, but did not pull away, recognizing it as her consent, Amity began to explore the mouth of the girl in her arms, running her tongue over her teeth, dragging it against the roof of her mouth, tangling it with Luz's own tongue, the brunette sighed causing her breath to tickle her nose, feeling more and more delight, the auburn continued her affection towards Luz, perceiving the human's own attempt for dominance.

And Amity almost melted when she felt those sweet lips sucking on her tongue, little electric shocks bristling her skin and forcing her to squeeze Luz's sweatshirt between her fingers every time she felt the human nibble at her lips, her legs languishing and turning to jelly as she ran her tongue over her teeth to her....

"Ow!" Amity exclaimed breaking away from Luz.

"What's wrong?" the human asked alarmingly.

Amity smiled sadly.

"My fangs hurt." She whispered shyly.

"Oh! I'm so sorry!" the brunette apologized resting her hand on the witch's cheek. "I can try not to touch them."

Amity frowned at the absurdity of the idea, if she wanted Luz to kiss her it would be impossible for her teeth not to be in the way.

Pondering her options, Amity finally sighed, shyly and a little fearfully she said:

"There is another way... I'll tell you a story."

Luz looked at her with excitement in her eyes, leaning back on the bed to see Amity's face better, but placing her hands on Amity's waist to keep in close contact.

The witch smiled to herself, knowing the human's fixation for backstories.

"Traditionally..." Amity started. "In the boiling islands and particularly in families of great status, it is most common that by the age of 18 the heirs are already married, in fact, originally and if not for the war, my parents would have held a ball 6 months before my 18th birthday to select a husband for me..."

Luz widened her eyes and opened her mouth in indignation ready to say something.

"But that didn't happen, thanks to you..." Amity continued before being interrupted. "That is customary not only because of tradition, but also for the convenience, from age 17 onwards changes begin to occur in witches' bodies that require certain support that almost always can only be given by a sentimental partner. One of these situations is the change of fangs, it hurts a lot, and the best way to relieve the pain... Is to bite your partner."

Luz looked at her with astonishment, then abashed at what the witch's words implied.

Amity wanted to bite her...

That must be scary... Right?

Her fangs looked so sharp, a bite was sure to hurt quite a bit.

And, even so, with everything against her, Luz wanted to feel Amity's fangs on her skin.

Something that made her both squirm and shudder.

"You don't have to if you don't want to..." Amity carried on in an uncertain voice. "I know it's a weird thing to ask and I'll probably..."

"Do it." The human declared. "If that's going to make you feel better.... Bite me."

Amity's eyes looked at her with astonishment.

"Are you sure?"

Unable to find her voice Luz just nodded her head.

The surprise in Amity's eyes slowly faded to give way to a hungry look.

The witch leaned over the human again, chastely and gently kissing her lips, then her cheek, her ear, her jaw, moving down in wet kisses over her neck until she reached the juncture over the collarbone that separated her neck from her shoulders, her tongue peeked out and affectionately licked the space she had previously kissed, between licks and kisses Amity tried to make sure at every step that Luz did not feel uneasy, but all she received from the human were sighs and stifled moans as well as some slight shivering.

Amity nibbled gently with her incisors, tantalizing Luz's skin, the human shuddered again at the contact, Amity gave one last lick before asking:

"Ready?"

The human's wobbly voice was no longer trustworthy, so she only managed a nod.

Amity took a deep breath and sighed on Luz's neck, positioned the sensitive fangs on the tan skin and very slowly buried them all the way into her flesh.

Luz let out a hiss of pain that was immediately followed by a choked murmur that indicated not pain but a particular enjoyment in the wound on her skin.

It was a totally foreign sensation, adding to the mix of emotions she was feeling at that moment at so many first experiences shared with the person she cared most about in this world or any other, there was this indescribable combination of pain and pleasure.

Though it's not as if she could really concentrate on her thoughts at that moment, Amity's hands, fangs, scent and warmth overwhelmed her senses, and she couldn't focus on anything but the electricity coursing through her trembling flesh from every point she touched the witch's skin.

The witch was ecstatic with every little event that had occurred that evening, from the tender strokes, to the wet kisses, to this vote of confidence where Luz allowed her to bite her neck.

Amity began to feel relief in her gums, the pain lessening every second that her fangs remained buried in the cinnamon skin.

The moment she perceived that the pain was completely gone, she began to release her bite very slowly, in order to not cause Luz any more pain than necessary.

Before releasing the bite completely, her eyes widened with surprise.

"More..." she heard Luz gasp out in a sigh. "Again..."

Luz covered her mouth completely embarrassed, those words were uttered without a filter, the product of an unknown instinct.

But the damage was done.

Luz's tone and words caused a delicious shiver to run through Amity from head to toe and a pleasant warmth to settle in her belly.

Luz's scent seemed to have increased and the witch buried her nose under her ear inhaling deeply.

After a sigh, Amity ran through the fabric of the human's sweatshirt, exposing part of her right shoulder, and buried her fangs harsher than the first time.

This time, Luz uttered a very loud scream that broke into a long moan as her nails dug into the witch's back.

Amity flapped her ears enjoying the sounds coming from the human and the roughness of her gestures, until she felt a warm liquid on her lips and a metallic taste on her tongue.

She quickly parted her fangs and watched as small traces of blood ran down the dark skin.

Her first reaction was to lick the wounds quickly before reddish liquid stained Luz's clothes.

Amity knew that saliva should help stop the bleeding, at least that was what happened with that act between witches, she didn't know how Luz's human body would react.

She lifted her face from her neck to look at the wounds, they were still open, but had stopped bleeding.

The witch sighed with relief and turned her gaze to the brunette's face.

"Are you okay?" she asked with concern.

Luz smiled warmly at her.

"You would never hurt me." She replied as she stroked the witch's cheek.

Amity looked at her in surprise as she placed her own hand over the one on her cheek.

She wanted to cry.

She couldn't cry

You can't cry at a moment like this! Then what happens next?!

'Oh I still remember the first time we kissed, Amity was in tears!'

She.

Wasn't.

Going.

To.

Cry.

Luz's face furrowed with concern.

Damn it.

"Amity, are you okay?" The human's other hand rested on her cheek as a few tears began to escape from the watery golden eyes. "What's wrong?"

"No... Nothing, I'm fine." She replied with her voice slightly cracking. "Just, I got a little emotional..."

The auburn smiled warmly at her and Luz couldn't help smiling back with the same fervor, she leaned forward and drank her tears with kisses, collecting with her lips the wet traces they left behind.

Luz separated their faces slightly as she brought her hand to the witch's chin, reaching up with her thumb to caress her lower lip.

The brunette was staring at the other girl's lips when she asked.

"Does it still hurt?"

Amity's eyelids relaxed and her eyes mimicked Luz's, staring at her lips.

She shook her head.

"Good." Replied the brunette bringing her lips to Amity's again to kiss her sweetly.

Luz felt a strange tingling sensation when she perceived the taste of her own blood on Amity's lips, causing her to kiss her more avidly.

The girls continued kissing tenderly, increasing the heat between them and making each kiss more prolonged, Luz, with her hands buried in the witch's silky hair, gave her soft caresses full of affection, while Amity ran her fingertips over and over Luz's naked lower back.

The last one was the longest and most suffocating, both finding each other's tongues and exploring the corners of their mouths, drowning in pleasant sensations until their lungs burned, begging for air.

Amity parted her lips resting her forehead against the brunette's as she gasped for breath.

She stared into Luz's eyes with a desire that burned hotter and hotter inside her chest.

I want more...

Amity lifted Luz's chin and kissed her just above her Adam's apple, her lips sucked on the sensitive skin gently, making the human sigh.

Give me more...

Amity's mouth moved down to the space between Luz's collarbones and kissed and sucked on the skin at that spot, her hands moved down her back to rest on her tailbone, pressing her firmly against her body.

It's not enough...

Amity lifted Luz by her hips and wrapped an arm around her back to keep her from falling, she moved her legs to kneel and lay the human down on the bed positioning herself on top of her.

Amity leaned back over Luz's chest, her lips moving down to her sternum where she kissed her hard again, opening her mouth to tempt her with her fangs and eliciting and short moan from the human.

More... Give me more...

Amity's lips met Luz's again as her hands were busy very slowly lifting the front of the human's sweatshirt.

Give it all to me... And I'll give you just as much.

"MIIIIIIIITTEEEEENS~!" Edric's shrill voice was heard from downstairs.

"We're home!" added Emira.

Luz tensed under her hands.

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

"Your siblings!" Luz shouted in a whisper.

Amity didn't want the moment to end.

"They don't care..." She said kissing her cheek trying to convince her.

"What if they come in?" she muttered again in panic.

"They're not coming in." Amity assured caressing her round ears.

"WE BROUGHT YOU A GIIIIIIIIIFT~!" Edric's enthusiastic voice was heard again.

Then the twins' footsteps could be heard walking down the hallway on the first floor, then up the stairs.

"They're coming up here!" exclaimed Luz nervously.

The witch made a pink ring appear with her finger and the lock was heard securing the door.

Luz looked at her stupefied.

"Amity! Stop it!"

The witch grumbled childishly and sat up on her heels while Luz did the same, moving to sit on the edge of the bed trying to quickly fix her hair and clothes.

She turned to look at the witch who had a frown on her face, her arms crossed and her lower lip sticking out in a pout.

The Latina laughed at the tantrum.

"Are you mad?" She asked her reaching up with her palm to rest it on her cheek.

Amity leaned her head into the touch.

"Yes... Not with you, though," she answered truthfully before frowning again, "They always show up at the worst time."

Luz laughed again, infecting the witch.

"I'll see you at school tomorrow?" the human asked in a tender voice.

Amity shifted her position until she was sitting next to Luz.

She leaned over her and kissed her lips again.

One...

Two...

Three seconds...

She pulled away from her and stroked her cheek with her thumb.

"See you tomorrow~." She said in a sing-songy voice.

Luz smiled at her and stood up from the bed heading quickly to the door, afraid to be faced with the twins, but as she opened it, it got stuck.

"Amity..."

"Oh! Sorry!" Amity drew another circle in the air unlocking the door so Luz could get out.

The human took her satchel from the dresser next to the door and hurriedly stepped out of the room.

She could not avoid running into the twins, who looked at her a little surprised.

"Luz, you're still here..." Edric remarked.

"Uhh, yeah, I was just leaving, it's already too late and I don't want the night creatures to devour me!"

The twins looked at her briefly and then drew a malicious smile on their faces.

Luz gulped.

"Oh well!" She exclaimed again in a trembling voice. "See you later!"

She walked quickly to the stairs, but Emira's voice stopped her briefly.

"See you later sweetie, take care!" the twin pronounced in a playful voice. "And put your hood on if you don't want Eda to ask you awkward questions!"

Luz burned with a bright blush as she covered the noticeable marks on her neck with her hood, ran downstairs until she reached the door and escaped through it by slamming it.

The twins laughed and headed for their younger sister's room.

"Heeeey Mittens~. " Edric crooned. "Did you have fun with Luz?"

"I was having so much fun until you guys came along." Said the youngest in a curt tone.

The siblings looked at each other surprised by Amity's bold response, normally she would be red from head to toe babbling nonsense.

"Boy did the alcohol get to you." Emira said with a sly smile on her lips.

"The alcohol?" Amity asked. "The drink Luz gave me for pain?"

"That's right." Emira continued. "According to what Luz explained to us, in the human realm it has very different uses but here in the islands..."

"Couples use it as a sex toy, it makes you all horny and lovey dovey." Edric concluded unabashedly.

The blush finally reached Amity's cheeks.

"It's a lot of fun." Emira continued. "Viney and I have used it a couple of times."

Amity inhaled deeply and pressed her fingers between her brows.

"Let's see...You guys knew what the drink Luz brought would provoke?"

"Yep." They replied in unison.

"And you knew how my body would react when Luz gave it to me?"

"Uh-huh." They answered again.

"So... If you already knew... WHY DID YOU COME BACK SO SOON? !"

Edric and Emira laughed outrageously.

"Oh Amity!" Emira exclaimed when she was able to stop laughing. "I know how time flies when you're with Luz, but Edric and I were gone for over four hours just because we wanted to give you space."

"We didn't even expect Luz to still be here, she doesn't usually stay after the sun goes down."

The sun goes down?

Amity opened the curtains with a brief spell, noticing the dark cloak covering the sky.

Oh no!

Luz always left before sunset because of the dangers of the forest.

She shouldn't have let her go.

Amity conjured her scroll to contact Luz, but at that instant she received a message from her.

'I'm home! See you tomorrow!  Sweet dreams bonita!'

At the end of the loving message stood out a little face sending a kiss.

Amity sighed with relief and smiled peacefully.

"Congratulations mittens!" Edric exclaimed with joy. "You finally escaped the friend zone!"

Emira just laughed as Amity reddened with rage.

"GET OUT OF HERE!" She ordered.

The twins left the room in laughter.

Amity laid back on the bed letting out a sigh.

She grabbed a pillow and hugged it tightly remembering everything that had happened that afternoon.

Emotions overwhelmed her again.

She began to laugh frantically and rolled on the bed with the pillow in her arms.

Joy overflowed her entire being.

Luz kissed me!

Luz actually let me bite her!

She likes me!

She finally stopped rolling and lifted the sheets to lie down, so many emotions had left her exhausted.

Before closing her eyes she ran one of her fingers over her fangs.

Not a trace of pain.

She smiled with satisfaction and soon fell asleep.

Like almost every night, she dreamed of the human she had fallen in love with.

Chapter Text

Luz left the Blight Manor as fast as she could and headed for the forest.

To the dark... VERY dark forest...

No, not today.

Luz took a fallen branch and began to draw a complex pattern on the forest soil.

Once she finished tracing the glyph, the human jumped on it, causing it to light up, completely consuming her body with Light.

An instant later, she appeared in front of the owl house.

"Luz! You're super late! Hoot, hoot!"

" Hey Hooty..." Luz uttered in a raspy voice. "I was... Busy."

She walked with careful steps until she reached the door.

Teleportation wasn't her favorite method of transportation, it made her dizzy, but it was easier than facing the creatures of the night.

She pressed the glyph on her wrist to bring up her scroll and let Amity know she was home.

Then she opened the door as quietly as she could in hopes of finding Eda in an apple blood coma.

But no.

Eda was right there on the couch, staring at the door with a drink in her hand.

" Hey kiddo..." She said with a mischievous grin. "Funny you're so late."

Luz gulped.

"Yeah... I got held up." She replied nervously closing the door behind her.

"You've never been this late before, normally you'd just stay over there." Continued the witch arching her eyebrows.

"Ah... I didn't think about it..." Luz said in a shaky voice.

"You didn't think to do what you usually do.... I see..." Continued the owl lady rubbing her chin. "Why are you wearing your hood? It's not raining."

"I-I'm cold..." Replied the human tightening her grip on the garment.

"Cut the crap Luz, tell me everything!" Eda exclaimed with a giggle as she patted the seat next to her on the couch.

Luz's face burned crimson and with hesitant steps she took a seat next to her second mother.

" T-there's nothing to tell..." The brunette murmured sheepishly.

Eda drew a golden ring in the air and Luz's hood fell swiftly.

The human reddened even more, tried to put the hood back on, but it wouldn't budge.

"Agh! Sometimes I hate that you got your magic back!" claimed Luz covering her face with her hands.

The owl lady laughed loudly and then watched her human closely.

She let out a long whistle.

"Two bites? And here I thought little Blight was shy! Plus you've got a neck full of hickeys!"

Luz let out a choked squeal and covered her head with her arms.

"EEEEDAAAAA!" she exclaimed in embarrassment.

"What? I want to know how it went! There's nothing wrong with it! You're not a child anymore..."

"You can't be so blunt about those things!"

"Okay! Sorry for taking an interest in your life!" Said the witch crossing her arms in a tantrum.

They were silent for a few seconds, Luz's color returned to normal and she was finally able to relax on the couch.

Eda sighed.

...

"So..." Started the witch again. " Did you go all the way or-"

"EDA!"

"Oh, come on, tell me a little! We've been through some rough stuff together! I want the fun part of being a mom, too!"

"You think daughters tell this stuff to their moms?"

"Only to cool moms, and I'm a cool mom, so yes."

Luz sighed, turned her face so Eda couldn't see her directly and started fiddling with her hands.

"We didn't... We didn't do any of... That..."

"Don't lie to me Luz, you have marks on your neck."

"I'm serious!" Exclaimed the human facing Eda. " We didn't... We didn't get... So... Far..."

Eda raised an eyebrow.

"When was it that you left?"

"A bit after I got home from school..."

"So...-Eda scratched her chin." You were at Blight Manor for about four hours.

Luz swallowed.

-Yes...

"And you say you 'didn't get that far.'" She went on, remarking the quotation marks with her fingers.

"Uh-huh..."

Eda was silent for a few seconds.

"If it took you this long to end up together, I'm not surprised you're slow for that too..."

"EDA!"

"Four hours Luz!"

"Technically we spent a little over an hour reading? Besides it's not like I planned it! It all happened so fast and-"

Eda snorted trying to hide a laugh.

"Eda!"

"I don't think fast is the best way to describe it."

Luz blushed again and fiddled with the legs of her shorts.

Eda sighed.

"Luz, I would really like for you to tell me how it went, I want you to share with me nice moments of your life, I promise not to make any more comments."

Luz looked at her doubtfully for a few moments, then smiled and relaxed on the sofa.

A soft pink tone decorated her cheeks.

"It was... Better than I have ever dreamed." She said letting out a sigh. "At first I didn't understand what was going on, I was sitting on her lap while we were reading and-"

"On her lap?" Eda asked arching an eyebrow.

Luz glared at her in annoyance.

" Sorry." She uttered again holding up her hands to excuse herself. "I'll shut up."

" Yeah, on her lap." Luz continued. "That's what we do when we only have one copy of a book. Then... Out of nowhere she started doing... weird stuff. She was sniffing my neck and caressing my hands, she was pressing me really tight against her and closed her legs over me as if she wanted to wrap herself around me with her body."

Eda was nodding with a quiet smile as she listened, Luz was getting excited.

"Then... She kissed my neck, just below my ear, it felt like I was struck by lightning! But...In a nice way, I was really surprised, I froze and Amity was still kissing me, I got all goosebumps and I was speechless for a long time, I didn't know what to do because I felt like I had to stop her, because I didn't know what was happening or if it was because of the alcohol, I tried to stop her but.... I just really didn't want to... and I couldn't..."

Eda smiled warmly, encouraging her to keep going.

"Then she kissed me again and asked me if I wanted her to stop...

 She asked me twice, Eda!

"I don't think I want to tell you what happened next..."

"Oh, come on!" Eda insisted vehemently, she thrived on gossip and an incomplete one left her unsatisfied. "At least tell me how those marks got on your neck."

Luz unconsciously touched the nibbles on her neck, shuddering at the contact.

"Amity..." He began again. " She told me that the pain from her gums was going to ease if she bit me."

Eda nodded.

"And little Blight decided to bite you twice huh?" she smiled mischievously.

Somehow Luz blushed even more, practically emitting a red light.

Eda looked at her quizzically.

"You... Asked her to do it?"

Luz grabbed her hood again, covering her head and pulling the strands back to cover her face.

Eda raised an eyebrow and then shrugged.

Who was her to kinkshame her human daughter?

" So things got pretty serious. How did you two 'didn't get that far.'?" she asked accentuating the quotation marks again.

Luz uncovered her mouth but kept her hood over her eyes.

"Edric and Emira arrived." Sentenced the human. "I panicked that they would get to see us and decided to leave."

Eda let out a loud laugh.

"Do you know that even then Amity didn't want to stop? She even locked the door."

Eda laughed even harder.

"Oh, booze!" She uttered at last between laughs. "How I'd love to sell it again!"

Luz looked at her with surprise.

"You used to sell alcohol? Is that why you have a closet full of bottles?"

"That's right, I used to sell it, couples like to add a little "sparkle" in bed, it sold very well."

Luz blushed again, only for the expression on her face to change quickly.

"And why don't you sell it anymore?"

"Because..."Eda's eyes widened. "Uh...  Because... It's illegal."

Luz looked at her incredulously.

"Do I look dumb to you?"

"Belos had a small weenie and it gave him a complex that made him power hungry?"

"Eda!" Luz exclaimed ignoring the joke about the emperor she slayed. "Tell me the truth!"

"It's not a big deal!" Evaded the witch.

"You'd sell your shadow if you could! If you stopped selling something it must be important! I gave Amity alcohol! You have to explain to me if there's something wrong with it!"

Eda hesitated for a few moments and finally sighed.

"There's nothing wrong with alcohol Luz, years ago when I discovered it and started selling it - don't ask how I discovered the effects - couples were buying it in loads to have fun and give a little twist to what they were doing alone, and it was all fine up to that point.... It's just that some people weren't using it the proper way."

"What do you mean?" Luz asked with mild concern.

"Alcohol... It is the closest thing you can find to a love potion, only with much weaker effects, a very small drink causes excitement and constant affection without leading to unbridled lust, that desire, if the person is single, is usually deposited in the closest person at the moment the alcohol takes effect. Some would buy it to... Hide it in other people's drinks and sexually abuse them, or worse, to manipulate and force people into marriage by hiding alcohol in food constantly, forcing them to stay by their side for whatever reason, even without real love."

Luz listened in complete horror.

"And that's going too far.... Even for me, that's why I stopped selling it."

Luz kept a sepulchral silence, with her eyes lost in the floor and her head down.

No...

I...

Did I abuse Amity?

"Luz, I know exactly what you're thinking." Eda continued speaking. "And no, you are not like them, what you did was an accident."

"But I could have stopped her!" two drops crystallized Luz's gaze. "She asked me if I wanted her to stop! Twice! And I asked her to go on!"

"Luz, that girl loves you, believe me, she's been waiting for that for years."

"How do you know that!" Luz claimed angrily.

"Because I have a brain and two eyes! Luz Nocedacuenta!"

"Stop calling me that! I'm not stupid! Amity stopped liking me years ago!"

Eda groaned in exasperation.

"Luz, please stop with all this nonsense before my bile sack explodes, that girl is completely head over heels for you." She muttered between her teeth rubbing her brow.

"Even if she was!" continued Luz with tears leaving trails down her cheeks. "I took away a special moment from Amity because of a drug I didn't even know how it could affect her!"

The human put her hands to her head in despair and tried to wipe away her tears.

"Why am I always so reckless?!" she grumbled in frustration. "If only I had asked you..."

Luz sank back into the armchair and cried freely into her hands, Eda moved closer to her and put her arms around her.

"Luz, you just made a mistake.... One that happened to have good consequences for you. You're in love with Amity, aren't you?"

Luz sniffed with her nose.

" So much." She replied sheepishly.

"And Amity is in love with you! I don't understand your problem!"

Luz looked up with sadness in her eyes.

"I'm not sure if Amity is in love with me, I really don't think so, and honestly, I wish I could have done things differently, confessed my feelings to her under the grom tree or something.... Not getting carried away as soon as Amity gives me a soft kiss on the neck."

Luz sighed again, let go of Eda's embrace and got up from the couch.

"Luz?"

"How long do the effects of alcohol last?"

Eda was a little surprised.

"Depends on each witch.... Usually a few hours, maximum 48, to continue the effects another dose must be given."

Luz's posture slumped even more.

"That means that tomorrow Amity may still be under the effects of alcohol, right?"

Eda sighed again.

"Yes, it's possible."

"Thank you." Luz replied. "I'm gonna go to bed."

The young woman went up the stairs quickly without saying another word, hurried the steps to her room, closed the door and without bothering to put on pajamas, threw herself on the bed and continued crying.

She could not close her eyes without thinking of what had happened at Blight Manor, and the memories that until recently brought her bliss and pleasure, now only caused her despair.

Her best friend's caresses and kisses were still fresh and tingling across her skin, making her shiver.

And that filled her with guilt.

Tomorrow she would talk to her, explain everything..... She would explain that the abuse was....Unintentional...  Accidental.

Aw shit, there was no way what she had done could sound good.

Luz was preparing herself for the next day Amity to end her friendship with her.

She just wished she would at least listen to what she had to tell her before she left.

Luz slept very little that night.

Every time she closed her eyes, the nightmare of Amity's rejection and repudiation startled her.

Chapter 6: Doubts and redemptions

Summary:

Luz is feeling guilty...

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Doubts and redemptions

The merciless first rays of morning sunshine effortlessly interrupted Luz's fatigued dozing, as she opened her darkened and swollen eyelids to reveal glassy eyes.

Guessing that there was not much use in trying to sleep, Luz got out of bed and decided that maybe a hot shower would help her relax a little.

Dragging her steps she made her way to the owl house bathroom, unable to stop the ruminating thoughts from taking over her head again.

She had abused Amity.

She put her desires above her best friend's well-being.

She could have stopped it, in a way she knew what was happening was wrong.

She had repeated it to herself several times.

And yet... It happened.

Inside the bathroom Luz closed the blind of the small bathroom window and activated the anti-Hooty glyph.

That tube bird had no limits.

Luz undressed and turned on the hot water faucet mechanically, still tormenting herself.

She stepped into the shower, and as the warm water moistened her body, it carried with it the tears that escaped her eyes for the umpteenth time since before daybreak.

The warm water felt pleasant on her skin.

Warm...

Amity's hands had felt so warm...

Her lips so soft against hers...

Her embrace had made her feel safe...

Her words had filled her affection starved heart with bliss...

An eternal yearning that had existed for years.

Luz leaned her forehead against the bathroom wall in exhausted frustration.

Without focusing at all she washed her hair and body while her mind continued on a different plane.

Was the deep love she felt enough of an excuse to let herself get carried away like that for a mistake?

For failing to protect Amity even from herself?

The tears were wiped away along with the soap from her body.

Amity had cried too.

The emotions brought on by the drink had been so intense that the witch had let some tears escape after biting her.

And Luz had comforted her with honest and affectionate words.

Luz turned off the faucet, dried her body quickly and brushed her teeth in the sink.

She gathered her clothes, returned to her room and after closing the door, began to put on her uniform with monotony.

She did not know what hurt her the most.

The awareness of the abuse committed against the person she loved the most...

""Alcohol... It's the closest thing you'll ever find to a love potion..."

... Or the fact that the affection she perceived from Amity was somewhat artificial.

""What, do you dream about this a lot?"

"Yes... All the time.""

She sat down in front of the small dressing table, quickly brushed her hair, took a wind and light glyph and activated it against her head, quickly a warm breeze dried her hair.

""You're so cute...""

She looked at the unflattering image in the mirror and sighed.

Besides the obvious residue of a sleepless night, her neck was covered with the memory of Amity's lips...

As well as her fangs...

""More... Again...""

The memory made her blush and her skin bristle as a pleasant shiver ran through her body.

"AGH!" she screamed in frustration slamming her fists against the wooden surface in front of her. "STUPID NATURAL REACTIONS! I AM NOT ALLOWED TO FEEL THIS WAY IF I ABUSED AMITY!"

Tears escaped her eyes again.

She had yearned for her so much... For so long... And it had all been a cruel mirage, all a product of her recklessness and impetus.

What would Amity say to her when she saw her?

She was probably confused and regretful about what happened.

Embarrassed...

Maybe even disgusted.

Luz's heart ached.

Amity didn't even know why it had happened.

Or it could be even worse...

It could be that Amity was still under the influence of alcohol...

""It's as close as you'll ever get to a love potion...""

It could be that she was still thinking that she was in love with Luz, that all those emotions of that afternoon had been... Real.

And Luz would have to break her heart.

Tell her the truth and confess the betrayal of her trust and friendship.

If Amity was still affected, Luz would have to put her through what she was feeling right now.

Hurt her over the damage done.

If Amity was still under the effect...

Would she really need to tell her the truth?

Luz froze at the pace of her own thoughts.

"NO!" The human exclaimed in a shrill voice slamming her palms hard against her face. "BUT HOW CAN I EVEN THINK ABOUT IT?!"Luz put her hands to her head and pulled hard on her hair.

She had lived through a terrible and cruel war, where there had been many losses.

Material and life losses.

Fighting against Belos had taught Luz that, sometimes, the end justifies the means.

To manipulate the most important woman in her life just to keep her by her side, loving her, walking along her and giving her all the love she had for her...

This was not one of those times.

As much as her heart longed for it.

Aw mierda, mami's right, I need therapy.

With a last sigh the human opened the first dresser drawer, where there was a first aid kit from which she took out a pair of healing glyphs.

She placed one on each side of her neck and activated them.

The hickeys faded and the bites... Scarred leaving a permanent mark behind.

Fantastic, an everlasting reminder on her skin.

" Luz!" Eda shouted downstairs. "Come down, breakfast is ready!"

The young woman was surprised and came down the stairs with weary steps.

"Breakfast?" she asked intrigued as she entered the kitchen.

Eda smiled at her from the stove, pouring the contents of a frying pan onto a plate.

"You were really down last night, so I decided to cook your favorite." Declared the witch affectionately.

Luz smiled at her, feeling a little warmth emerge from her chest.

She took a seat in front of the table and allowed Eda to place the plate with blue pancakes in front of her.

The witch sat down next to her with her own plate and began to eat.

The human took the pink honey and covered her pancakes, handled the fork and took a first bite.

The sweet taste that would normally fill her with joy, made her stomach clench and her mouth filled with saliva from a gag reflex.

She swallowed forcefully and turned her eyes to Eda who looked at her with concern.

Luz offered her a sad smile.

"I'm sorry... I'm not very hungry." She told her guiltily.

Eda sighed.

"You didn't sleep at all, did you? "

The brunette bowed her head.

"Luz, what happened wasn't your fault..."

Luz suddenly got up from the table without looking up.

" Thanks a lot for the food Eda, I'm going to take it to school, for later."

Luz took some of the honey with the tip of her finger and drew a glyph on the edge of the plate, she touched it to activate it and the plate transformed into a box with a handle.

"I'll be on my way out." Announced the human.

" Luz, it's over an hour before your classes start."

"I want to get there early." She replied roughly taking the box and heading for the door.

"Luz!" She heard a voice different from Eda's. "Are you all right? I couldn't get into your room last night."

The little king of demons tugged lightly on Luz's multicolored leggings as he looked at her with concern.

Luz looked at him tenderly and bent down to pick him up in her arms.

"I'm fine King, don't worry." She replied calmly planting a kiss on his skull.

"Then why did you lock the door last night?"

"I needed to..." Luz grimaced guiltily. "To be alone."

Eda had crept up to her side and put an arm around her shoulders.

"Luz... Let's go to the couch."

Exhausted, Luz stopped resisting and complied.

Still with King in her arms, Luz went to the sofa and took a seat next to her second mother.

Eda opened her arms and Luz accepted the invitation, leaning her head against the witch's shoulder, letting herself be embraced and relaxing at the touch of her fingers caressing her hair in a comforting way.

King climbed over Luz's chest and wrapped his small arms around her neck.

"I did something horrible..." Said the human at last, her eyes moist with new tears. " She' s going to hate me, that is, if she doesn't hate me already."

"Shhhhh..." Soothed Eda squeezing the young woman to herself. "Luz, you didn't know how serious what you were doing was, you didn't know what was going to happen, you never had bad intentions."

"In the human realm... There are people who do something similar, it's called date rape, they hide a drug in your drink without you realizing it, it knocks you unconscious, they abuse you and then you don't remember anything, you wake up in a strange place just feeling that something bad happened... Without understanding a thing..."

Eda tightened her embrace.

" Kid... Did you...?"

"No..." Luz whispered. "It never happened to me, but mami treated many girls who went through it, she always asks me to be very careful with that, because you can't trust just anyone."

Her voice broke.

"And Amity trusted me... It didn't come from a stranger in a bar, it was in her house, with something her supposed best friend gave her to drink."

Luz's hands tightened on King's fur as she sank her face into Eda's shoulder and cried inconsolably.

"Luz... You didn't go to Amity's house to hurt her, you went to take care of her, to give her something you thought would help her, to show her that you care for her..."

"That doesn't excuse what I did..."

"You don't need to excuse it Luz, it was a mistake, a mistake, not an abuse, do you understand that? I know abuse and I know mistakes, you made a mistake, and we all are allowed to make mistakes."

"What am I going to do if Amity doesn't forgive me Eda? I can't... I don't want to live without her."

"With the relationship you guys have, believe me, Amity doesn't want to live without you either, with that bond... She's going to forgive you."

"How are you so sure?"

"Because I forgave Lily."

Luz stifled a gasp.

And Eda went on talking.

"When Lily tried to hurt you when I knew it was her who cursed me... I was ready to destroy her with my own hands... But King stopped me, Lily was trying to change, and despite everything that happened, I know she never tried to hurt me, she's my little sister, and I love her, even if we hurt each other, mistakes made us better." Eda sighed. "I think Amity will be able to forgive some kisses, she cares too much about you to get away."

"Don't say that so easily." Grumbled the human.

"Has it really not crossed your mind that Amity wanted that to happen as much as you did?"

Luz blushed.

"Amity doesn't want me like that..."

"And we're back with Luz Nocedacuenta... The girl literally turned into a tomato when you got too close to her!"

"That was ages ago! I... she doesn't like me like that anymore."

"And how are you so sure?"

"Because I'm me Eda! I'm a human in a world where I don't belong! I'm weird and loud! I'm reckless and do stupid things! I'm always getting into trouble! And Amity is... IS AMITY! She's smart, talented, brave, strong and beautiful! Why would she want someone like me?!"

" Kid! You literally led a rebellion to victory! How can you think of yourself like that?! Your mother's right! You need rethapy!"

"THERAPY!"

"SAME THING!"

Luz sighed and relaxed again in her second mother's embrace.

" She said such nice things to me Eda... I felt like she really loved me... It felt so real..."

" And who's saying it wasn't real?"

"The alcohol."

"How about you ask Amity first? You won't know until she tells you directly, maybe you'll get a nice surprise."

"I'm scared."

"Of course you're scared, but come on kiddo, didn't she say anything that would give you a hint?"

Luz closed her eyes without feeling like answering Eda's prompting.

"" What, do you dream about this a lot?"

"Yes... All the time.""

Luz's eyes opened with surprise.

""Yes... All the time.""

That... That wasn't something to say in the heat of the moment, was it?

Luz sat up suddenly escaping Eda's embrace and dropping King onto her lap.

"Woah. What just happened?"

Could it be?

"I need to go, I'm going to be late."

"Oh~ Did you remember something?"

"I need to talk to Amity, asap."

The human hurried her steps to the door, grabbed her backpack and walked out ignoring Hooty.

Eda smirked.

Oh, for the Titan's sake! Let them finish together at last and stop all this unnecessary drama!

Chapter 7: Ivory and tequila

Summary:

Just by seeing Amity again... Luz could feel her heart breaking.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Ivory and tequila.

Luz ran swiftly down the path at Hexide's side, impatient to talk to the witch of her dreams and nightmares.

She sped through the doors and corridors of the academy until she reached her locker and thus Amity's, only to find the corridors almost deserted.

And it was only natural, Luz had arrived almost an hour before classes started.

Despite this, Amity always used to arrive very early, if she wasn't there, she would probably be at...

"Willow!" The human exclaimed, running off to Hexide's greenhouses.

The botanical witch was turning the pots of some solaris criseas to receive the sunlight magnified by a lens arranged over them, when the human ungraciously slammed the magic glass door, waking up some carnivorous who started to cry.

"WILLOW!" The human exclaimed. " Is Amity with you?!"

"Luz! No! What happened?!" She asked her worriedly.

The human stopped for a moment to catch her breath after running from the other end of the school, closing the door behind her.

"I need to... Talk... With her..." She said between agitated breaths. "Have... You... Seen her?"

Willow looked at her with intrigue as she stroked the leaves of the sobbing carnivores, trying to calm them.

"No... Not today, although it's very early, she'll probably be here in a few minutes." Amity had gotten into the habit of accompanying Willow on her morning activities since they returned to classes, letting their long lost childhood friendship blossom for quite some time now.

Luz caught her breath.

"Fine... I'll wait for her with you."

Willow's intrigued look had not disappeared since Luz entered the acclimatized space.

"Why are you in such a rush, Luz?"

The human tensed.

"Rush? What rush? I'm not in a rush at all!"

"You literally rushed in and woke up my poor caligulaes, explain yourself." Willow told her with an apathetic look.

But the human only managed stutters and stammerings.

"Oh~" uttered the witch with Malice interrupting the babbling. "Something happened at Amity's yesterday, didn't it?"

The brunette blushed profusely adopting the color of blood roses behind Willow, and if her previous babbling was incomprehensible, her current one was outright absurd.

Willow burst into gleeful laughter.

"Oh, you finally took the step, tell me who was it, you or Amity?"

Luz's babbling suddenly slowed, and from her flushed face the color drained to give way to a shadow of regret.

"Uh..." Luz faltered in a tired voice. "It was kind of... Complicated..."

It was then that Willow noticed the traces of fatigue on the human, the deep dark circles under her eyes, the glum posture, the dull gaze...

The four scars on her neck.

" She bit you..." The witch murmured almost unintentionally.

Luz put her hand to her neck without much shock.

"Ah, right." She said with a sad smile. "I guess these marks are going to be a permanent reminder of what happened yesterday..."

Willow was officially worried.

"Luz, what happened, can I help you in any way?"

Luz sighed as she traced the ridges of skin on her neck with her fingers.

"I... I don't think you can... I did something awful Willow." Said the brunette causing the witch to look at her with great surprise. "It was an accident, but, that doesn't justify what I did..."

"Is Amity okay?" the black-haired woman asked with concern.

"Well... I hope so... I'm going to explain everything Willow..." Said the human warily. "But only after I speak with Amity."

Willow wasn't entirely convinced, her friend's notoriously deep distress was not something she could overlook, but before she could utter a word, a soft chant was heard and the door slowly opened.

Amity entered the greenhouse with a radiant and cheerful semblance.

"Good morning Willow~!" greeted the auburn in an elated voice turning to close the door. "I have something to- Luz!"

Amity looked even more excited than before.

Luz was suddenly terrified.

And Willow didn't understand a thing.

The auburn threw herself into the human's arms without a second thought, hanging onto her shoulders in a hug.

Luz let herself be taken by surprise and lifted Amity slightly by the waist to lay her gently on the floor a moment later.

The cheerful witch parted her embrace briefly and leaned forward to attempt to kiss the human's cheek, only to receive a panicked look and trembling hands pushing her by the shoulders to back her away.

Luz looked uneasy and distressed, averting her gaze as she pulled her embrace apart and put her an arm's length away from herself.

"Luz?" The cheerful, sing-songy tone was replaced by one filled with insecurity and fear in an instant.

"Amity..." The brunette spoke at last, taking two more steps back. "I need to tell you something..."

The witch brought her hands to her chest and anxiously began to fiddle with the gem on her necklace, her eyes stinging with a familiar burning and her lungs crying out for extra oxygen to stifle a sob.

With a few words and a couple of gestures, Luz had provoked her to the verge of tears.

That's how pure and potent her effect on her was.

For good, and for bad.

"Tell me..." She murmured in a frail voice.

Luz finally met her gaze, the auburn's sad eyes weighed cruelly in her chest, they were the reflection of a broken heart, one she had manipulated, even unintentionally.

Unable to hold her gaze for more than an instant, she averted her eyes again to the ground and crossed her arms, hugging her shoulders.

In that moment, despite her uncertainty about her best friend's true feelings for her, guilt choked her again.

How dare she even think of having hope after the vileness of her actions?

She tried, unsuccessfully, to swallow the lump in her throat.

"I'm going to leave you two alone..." Willow cautiously uttered as she walked out the door.

Amity was terrified, she didn't understand what was going on.

Had Luz regretted it?

Had everything that happened yesterday meant nothing?

Four years and her biggest fear not only hadn't changed, but had transformed.

From fearing rejection, she went to fearing the loss of an intense unrequited love, of an indispensable relationship, and to her perception, so fragile that a false step could destroy it.

And what had happened the day before had not been a single step, it had been a complete ride.

A roller coaster ride with agitated hearts beating in unison.

Or at least Amity had thought so.

" Luz..." Pronounced the witch at last in a broken voice as a tear slipped down her cheek. " If... If you're going to tell me that what happened yesterday was a mistake... Please make it quick."

The brunette raised her head quickly, looking with anguish at the witch that was crumbling in front of her eyes.

"No!" She said reaching out to the auburn's cheek, stopping inches from touching her.

She was so used to physical contact with Amity, to wrapping her in her arms when she was distressed that trying not to touch her felt... Unnatural.

"No..." She uttered again scratching the back of her neck. "No..." She uttered again scratching the back of her neck. "It's not that Amity, it's... way more complicated."

After the first tear, the auburn's eyes couldn't stop crying, silent furrows of salty water stained her pale cheeks.

"What is it?" The witch asked in a trembling, impatient voice. "Really, Luz, if you're going to reject me..."

"Amity, no! It's...! It's just...! FUCK! If you're still under the effect this is so much harder!" the human exclaimed, covering her face in frustration.

"Under the effect...?"

Luz sighed feeling defeated.

"Amity, what you're feeling for me..." The human's shoulders slumped as did her gaze. "It's not real."

The witch's tears stopped to give way to a confused face.

"What are you talking about?"

Luz took a deep breath.

"Ok... I'm going to say it fast, because if I don't, I won't be able to, so please don't interrupt me. ok?"

Amity tilted her head slightly and nodded.

UGH! Why does she have to be so cute?!

"Well..." Luz put her palms together and took another deep breath. "Yesterday... After I gave you tequila, when... You started kissing and hugging me... Eda sent me some messages..."

Rip it off like a band-aid.

"She asked me why I had taken one of the bottles from her cabinet, she got worried for some reason I didn't understand, I told her it was for you, because your gums hurt, she asked me if I had given you the tequila to drink, when I said yes, she told me that alcohol didn't have the same effect on witches as on humans, that you were going to get... affectionate..."

The witch blushed while she listened to Luz's endless verbiage.

"But she didn't tell me anything else, then, y-you kissed my neck and my scroll disappeared, and-and, you kept going and I knew in a way it wasn't right, and I tried to stop you, I swear I tried, but then you licked my ear and... I think I lost control and..."

As the uncontrolled speech progressed, the human became more and more tinged with crimson, gesticulating in a confused manner, unable to keep still.

"And I thought, "screw it"! And I went along with you because it was something I had wanted for a long time and at the time I didn't think it was that bad! And you said things to me that melted my heart and I was so happy! BUT IT WAS WRONG! Because I knew it was all because of the alcohol I gave you! And I didn't stop you, and I didn't stop myself! And I'm so thankful your siblings came along at that time because otherwise who knows what would have happened and...!"

Amity frowned slightly at the memory of the twins' interruption, she crossed her arms trying to assimilate everything Luz was telling her at an almost incomprehensible speed.

"And then I went home, and Eda pressured me to tell her what had happened, and after I told her she told me that she used to sell booze, that it's the closest thing you can find to a love potion, that couples use it as a sex toy and...!"

"I know." Amity said unintentionally.

"That she had stopped selling it because-" Luz stopped short. "What?"

Amity covered her mouth in panic.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt-"

"Nonononononono, wait. What? You know? What do you mean you know?" Asked the human in disbelief.

The auburn looked down at the floor and began to fiddle with the hem of her skirt nervously.

"Ah... Yeah, my siblings told me after you left."

"EDRIC AND EMIRA KNEW?! They knew I was going to give you tequila! Why didn't they say anything?!"

Amity raised an eyebrow.

"Oh... Right. WAIT! So you know!" Luz took a step back feeling intimidated. "So...?"

Amity looked at her doubtfully.

" So, what?"

" You don't... You don't hate me?"

Amity's countenance changed to a surprised panic.

"Of course not, why would I hate you?!"

Luz's eyes sank with sadness.

"Amity... You're still under the effect... I... I took advantage of you."

The witch's face became incredulous.

"Advantage, Luz? Why would you say that?"

The human sighed again.

"Eda told me that she stopped selling alcohol because there were people who used it to sexually abuse others, that it was very similar to a love potion, she said the effects could last up to two days... That's why you feel like this... You're going back to normal Amity, I'm so sorry, you... You can't imagine how much I care about you, I know that asking you to remain my friend is too much after this, but... I hope you can at least forgive me."

Luz had lowered her gaze again, and, to Amity's surprise, she had begun to cry as well.

The witch felt many emotions at that moment.

Sadness, just imagining all that Luz had suffered at the thought that she had abused her.

Reassurance, knowing that Luz had wanted what happened yesterday as much as she did.

Warmth, at the selfless feelings of Luz, who was so afraid of having hurt her, that she was willing to sacrifice herself.

And, finally.

Annoyance.

Amity walked forward, closing the five feet that separated them.

Dubitatively, she brought her hands to the human's cheeks and slightly lifted her moistened face to look her in the eyes.

"Luz... Are you really this dense?"

The brunette couldn't manage to say anything as the witch wiped her tears with her thumbs.

Amity closed her eyes, steeling herself.

Whatever relationship they had prior to the day before was permanently gone.

So there was no longer any point in further measuring her feelings.

" Luz..." He uttered her name again. "I'm not under the effect of anything, I'm in love with you... I have been for years now."

The human widened her eyes in surprise.

" Y-Years?" Luz blushed as her eyes came alive again. "Really?

Amity nodded with a coy smile."

Luz brought her hands to rest on Amity's, resting the weight of her cheeks on the witch's palms.

"Since when?"

The witch blushed a lot.

"Do I have to tell you?"

Luz nodded vigorously with astonished eyes.

Amity sighed, blushing even more.

"I think I started to feel something for you... After the covention..."

"Which one?"

"The first one..." Replied the witch in a whisper.

Luz's face was drawn in confusion.

"The first one, where I challenged you to a witch's duel?"

Even after years of longing, Amity found it embarrassing to reveal her teenage secrets and blushed as she did when she was fourteen.

She pulled her hands away from the brunette's cheeks, brought them to her waist and stepping forward, hugged her, hiding her face in the crook of her neck.

Luz didn't protest and only tensed slightly in surprise, to wrap Amity's shoulders in a hug a moment later as well.

"Yes..." She murmured against her skin.

There was a moment of silence.

"Really?" the human asked at last. "I thought you hated me."

"Oh, I thought that too." Amity replied. "But... Looking back on it I was... Fascinated? Confused? I spent days writing about you in my diary after that. I didn't understand anything, you were completely different from everything I was used to, I wanted to get away from you, you got me in trouble and ruined my routine, but... I couldn't stop thinking about you and how weird you were."

Amity's voice grew softer and softer as she spoke, filling with shame as she felt exposed the secrets that only paper had come to hear.

Luz remained silent, as if waiting for her to continue.

So she did.

"Then you insisted on being my friend for some reason, it was absurd, I had done nothing but be rude to you and try to push you away-"

"I wanted to get to know you." Luz interrupted.

"What?"

Luz tightened her embrace and began to caress Amity's auburn hair gently.

"When I saw you reading to kids, I saw someone completely different from the mean and cruel girl I had seen before, you looked so happy, so sweet, I think that was the first time I saw you smile, I wanted to meet that Amity... The real Amity, although I didn't know it at the time."

Amity also tightened her embrace.

"I realized that I liked you after you defeated the slitherbeast, although it took me a while to accept it, I was in denial for several days. Then grom came along and I wanted to invite you to... To be sure, to-"

"YOU WERE GOING TO INVITE ME?!"

Amity broke off for a moment to look Luz in the face with disbelief.

"Are you paying attention?"

" Oh, right... I guess it's logical..." Said the human then to let out a small chuckle.

Amity smiled warmly at her and then leaned back on her shoulder.

"After we danced at grom, I turned into such a mess, I'm surprised you didn't realize how much I liked you."

There was a momentary silence.

"Mayyyyybe." Luz started stretching out the word. "I may have noticed."

Amity looked at her again.

" You knew?!"

"Not at the beginning, I thought you were mad at me getting too close, but after a while I figured it out... In the middle of the rebellion."

"Oh..."

" Yeah..." Luz replied awkwardly. "With everything that was going on,...I preferred not to say anything."

"I understand." Replied the witch.

"Then..." Luz continued. "I noticed that you no longer blushed when I was with you, that you didn't get flustered or stutter like before, I thought you had stopped liking me. I thought it was just a temporary crush, I was happy with you just still being my friend."

Amity looked at her in confusion.

"Luz, I never stopped liking you, why would you say it was a temporary crush?"

The human flashed an uneasy smile.

"Well, from the beginning I thought it was weird that you could even like me, so I thought it was because of the newness, because you weren't used to having someone to listen to you and have fun with you, I thought that by being with me longer you would get to know what you deserved and that after a while... You would stop liking me like that."

"Why would you think that?"

"Well, because it was you..."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

Luz let out a slight humorless chuckle.

"You're Amity Blight! You're brilliant, brave, talented, smart, clever, powerful, beautiful and so much more... I would have never thought you could like me, let alone fall in love with me, who's just a human who can't even use magic naturally."

Amity watched her with eyes that conveyed incomprehensible messages.

"Luz... The day my siblings and I moved into the owl house, I was devastated and so scared, you hugged me, you laid me on your lap and stayed with me while I was crying, right then and there, I knew I was in love with you, that I wanted to have you always by my side, even if it was just as a friend."

Luz only listened with attention and a growing blush on her cheeks.

"Luz." The witch repeated. "From the first moment you appeared you changed my life forever, for the better, you helped me to be a better person, to recognize that my parents controlled me at their will and to face them, to accept me as I was, you helped me to get Willow back, you showed me sincere affection, you taught me that making a mistake is not the end of the world. You taught me so many things Luz! Thanks to you, to knowing you, for the first time in a long time I was happy... By your side... I am happy, you are the best thing that-"

Before Amity could utter another word, suddenly, Luz's lips collided against hers.

After the shock, it took a moment for Amity to reciprocate the kiss fervently, bringing her hands to the human's cheeks to stroke them gently and affectionately, savoring the salt left by the tears of both of them on her lips.

Too soon for her liking, Luz broke away, and rested her forehead on hers.

She let out a soft laugh.

"Sorry." She said lightly rubbing her nose against Amity's. "It was an impulse that got me into this in the first place."

Amity smiled at her, still stroking her cheeks.

"I like your wild spontaneity..." She mused." I like a lot of things about you."

"Awww, you like me." Luz teased. "That's cute."

Amity laughed and kissed Luz's nose, then nodded.

Luz smiled hugely, an expression followed by a slight sorrow.

"Are you sure it's not the effect of the booze?" she asked unsurely once again.

Amity rolled her eyes.

" Luz. Remember when you were explaining to me what alcohol was used for in the human realm?"

The brunette nodded.

"You told me you guys drank it to build up the courage to ask someone out." The witch related. "I asked you to give me a swig hoping that, maybe, I would have the courage to tell you the truth, it worked... Too well."

Luz let out a giggle and put her hands over Amity's on her cheeks again.

"So..." The human mused.

"So...?" the witch replied.

"You're in love with me."

Amity flushed at hearing it from Luz's lips, but nodded slowly.

"And when you said you dreamed about me all the time, you meant it."

Almost panicking, the witch nodded again.

"So..." The brunette uttered again in a strangled voice. "Hypothetically... If I asked you to be my girlfri..."

"I'd say yes." Replied the auburn too quickly without letting her finish, blushing even more.

Luz smiled shyly, blushing too.

" Yeah?"

" Yeah."

"Are you sure?"

" Absolutely."

"Really?" Luz joked.

"Uh-huh."

"Do you want to be my girlfriend?"

"Yes." Replied the auburn with a giggle.

"Yes?"

"Yes."

"YES!" Exclaimed the human with a loud laugh bringing her arms around the witch's waist, lifting her up and spinning around full of glee.

" Luz!" The witch cackled with laughter. "The plants!"

"Oh, right." The brunette acknowledged, placing Amity on the ground carefully, without separating her embrace.

Unexpectedly, the human kissed the witch again, smiling against her lips eagerly.

Before Amity could reciprocate or even close her eyes, Luz pulled her lips apart and brought them to her forehead, her cheek, her nose, her cheekbone, her chin, showering her with brief kisses all over her face.

"Luz!" the witch giggled, letting herself be endeared.

She ended up kissing her lips chastely and lingeringly.

"Te quiero." She told the witch sweetly as she pulled away her lips.

"También te quiero." She answered her just as sweetly, smiling broadly.

Luz looked at her smile fondly, separated one hand from her waist and brought it to her chin, stroking it.

"I really like your fangs." She told her as her thumb stroked one of them.

Amity nibbled her finger playfully as she looked down at her lips.

"Thanks to you they don't hurt anymore." She told her bringing her face a little closer to hers.

"Oh~." Luz mused as her other hand moved down to Amity's hips. "Are you sure they don't hurt anymore?"

Amity's eyes widened in surprise at what Luz's words implied.

Letting herself get caught up in the moment, she brought her hands from the human's shoulders to wrap around her neck in a hug, leaving mere millimeters between their lips.

"They may still hurt a little..." She whispered hesitantly.

"Awww, I'm glad that misunderstanding was fixed!" Willow exclaimed from the doorway.

Amity broke away from Luz quickly and exploded in crimson.

"Willow!" Luz exclaimed blushing as well. "How long have you been there?"

"Since you carried Amity." She replied calmly. "Sorry, I didn't say anything because I didn't want to interrupt, but my calligulaes aren't ripe yet and I don't want them to see something inappropriate for their age."

Willow pointed to the carnivorous plants that Luz had awakened when she arrived, which had turned from an off-white color to crimson-tinged.

"Now..." Willow said bringing her palms together in front of her face."Can you tell me who confessed first?"

Amity seemed to be unable to speak, so Luz answered.

"You could say it was Amity..." She said rubbing the back of her neck. "But I asked her to be my girlfriend."

"Good!" celebrated Willow with a smile. "Now Boscha owes me 500 snails."

"You bet on who would confess first?!" Amity asked with surprise and irritation.

"500?!" Luz exclaimed in amazement.

"That's right, and it wasn't just me who did it." Replied Willow turning to Amity then looking at Luz." Also the bet was increasing every month. But that doesn't matter! What matters is that Tomaty Blight and Luz Nocedacuenta are finally together! "

"Hey!" they both retorted at the same time.

"I can hardly believe how long it took you guys! You can't imagine the torture it is to see you making goo-goo eyes at each other while the other one isn't looking!" Continued the botanical witch ignoring their complaint. ""Oh Willow! Why does Luz have to be so cute?"" ""Willow! Do you think Amity will like this book? I love how excited she gets when I gift her something!"""

The newly formed couple blushed profusely at being exposed.

"I swear if I didn't respect you both so much I would have locked you in a closet together until you confessed! I actually came close to doing that, so thank Gus."

"Gus knew?" Luz asked in surprise.

Willow slapped her forehead with her palm, exasperated.

"Literally everyone knew except you guys."

"Why didn't you ever say anything?" Luz asked again.

"Because it wasn't my place." Willow replied calmly. " You had to do it when you were ready, and I wasn't going to intervene... At least not like that."

Willow walked towards the calligulaes, picking up a giant sack on her way as if it weighed nothing.

"By the way girls," she pronounced as she stroked the petals from one of the plants. "My first period is free practice, but the bell rang about five minutes ago."

"MIERDA!" Luz cried out grabbing Amity's hand and running for the door.

With equal haste, the witch let herself be led running back to the main building as well.

Luz's hand was warm between her fingers.

One shot of tequila, four painful ivory fangs and a very long wait.

But at last her deepest wish was fulfilled.

The love of the human who changed her life forever.

A life she was hoping to share by her side.

THE END.

Oh, by the way, "Te quiero" is a platonic way of saying "I love you" in Spanish, which is used more with friends or romantic partners you've recently started dating.
It doesn't have a literal translation in English, so I decided to leave it that way.
Let's think that Luz taught it to Amity to have a secret language.

Chapter Text

It was real.

She was not dreaming.

The walk to Blight Manor was the same.

The same trees, same rocks, same smell, same pixies devouring the skin of a snaggleback, same grass at the side of the path.

But everything felt different.

Because the scenario she imagined hundreds (maybe thousands) of times, had become real.

"...Then I stepped on the chimera's tail because I wasn't paying attention, she got mad and growled at me, almost bit my head off, but she's fond of me and I know exactly what spot to scratch to get her to calm down..."

Luz had been talking about her beast keeping class since they left Hexide, and though Amity listened to her carefully enough to understand what she was saying, her thoughts continually drifted to the connection made by their intertwined hands.

And Amity couldn't have been happier.

Every little step, every word she said or heard, every gesture and smile felt different.

It felt better.

"...The burnberries were key to..." Luz paused her anecdote as she turned her face away from the road and back to her girlfriend.

The human blushed and snorted to hide a giggle.

Amity tilted her head to the side.

"What are you laughing at?" the witch asked with a faint smile.

"Do you always look at me like that, or is this something new?"

"Like that? Like how?"

"With little Blight eyes."

" Little Blight eyes?"

"That's what Viney calls them when Emira looks at her like that, Jerbo as well, "little Blight eyes."" Luz replied marking the quotation marks. "I never noticed you looking at me like that."

The auburn's face burst into crimson and was immediately covered with her free hand.

At what point had she reverted back to being fourteen?

"Aw, no!" The human exclaimed. "Don't hide, it's cute."

" Luz!" Amity exclaimed with a nervous laugh. "Stop saying those things like it's nothing! You're going to give me a heart attack!"

"Oh no!" the human laughed theatrically. "Widowed after just a couple of hours! And on my own cause! Whatever will become of me?"

Amity laughed lightly, suddenly noticing the appearance of the manor door in front of them.

Ha...

The path had felt shorter than usual.

"Well... Here we are." Luz stated with an almost disappointed tone. "See you tomorrow!"

The human took a step back ready to leave, but Amity tightened her grip on her hand.

And then she fell silent.

"Amity? Is something wrong?" the human asked curiously.

And it was just that nothing was wrong.

Amity was just looking for a believable excuse so she could spend a little more time with her girlfriend.

"Amity...?" Luz questioned again after receiving no answer.

"Ah... I... I just..."

"Yes?"

"Your book!" She exclaimed at last. "You left it here yesterday."

And the bottle too.

But for some reason that she didn't understand?

Yeah, right.

...Amity didn't want to remind her.

"Oh, it's okay, you can take it to school for me tomorrow!" The human replied lightly.

Amity held back a growl of annoyance at the eternal naivety of the girl who had stolen her heart.

Then she remembered... Technically, she didn't need excuses anymore.

She took a deep breath to take courage, after all, this was still new.

" To be honest..." She began sheepishly. "I'd like to spend more time with you, do you want to come in? We could pick up where we left off yesterday..."

The human's face blushed worryingly, a few beads of sweat became visible on her forehead and the witch was puzzled by the overreaction.

An instant later, she realized what her words seemed to imply.

"The book! I'm talking about the book!" she uttered incoherently. "Not the other thing! Not that I don't want to go on with the other thing! I'D LOVE TO GO ON WITH THE OTHER THING! BUT I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE BOOK! WE CAN PICK UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF YESTERDAY! THE READING! THE BOO-"

Amity slowed her babbling as she heard Luz's soft laughter.

"I'd love to, let's get going."

And the smile that came next turned Amity's kneecaps to soft jelly.

To her good fortune, Luz didn't wait, and walked through the door taking her with her.

They walked upstairs heading for Amity's room.

"Are you hungry?" The witch asked coming through the door.

" Just a little bit." Luz answered sitting on the bed.

Amity opened one of her desk drawers to take out a box of cookies, then walked over to the bed and sat down next to Luz.

The brunette took the box and opened it quickly, then eagerly ate a cookie.

Amity smiled as she watched her.

In some absurd way, every little thing Luz did seemed charming to her.

" Little Blight eyes." Luz said with a beaming smile as she took another cookie.

Amity blushed again, but laughed as she caught herself.

"I think I've been looking at you like that for a long time." She confessed in a soft voice. "I just don't think I realized it... And apparently neither did you."

Luz smiled swallowing a fourth cookie.

"I still don't quite believe it, honestly..."

Amity finished chewing her last cookie and, after Luz confirmed that she didn't want any more, she put the box aside on the bedside table.

" What?"

"That... You're in love with me." Confessed the brunette with flushed cheeks. "It almost seems like a dream."

The witch frowned facing the human again.

"Why is that so hard for you to believe?" She asked quizzically.

"Well... I never really saw myself in the idea that someone could like me like that, let alone someone falling in love with me, and to top it off that person was you, it literally makes it unbelievable."

"You say that like I'm the only one who's ever felt that way about you." Grumbled the auburn.

" Because... You are?"

Amity looked at her in disbelief.

Throughout the war, more than one witch and warlock had tried in some way to woo Luz, it wasn't hard to tell...

Although, and Amity knew this, most backed away when they saw the close relationship between the two commanders, a relationship that was rumored among the rebel headquarters and which Amity never bothered to deny or correct.

The only one who did not respect the undeclared bond eventually surrendered after being indirectly rejected on more than three occasions.

Usually by Amity's unintentional intervention.

Because, for whatever reason, Luz always ended up prioritizing the witch's requests over the others, an unspoken favoritism that Amity didn't hesitate to take advantage of.

The witch sighed, even though it would probably do Luz good to know that she was far more attractive than she thought, Amity didn't feel like bringing up the subject.

At least for now, she wanted Luz all to herself.

"Luz, oh please!" Amity loudly exclaimed drawing the human's attention to her eyes. "If you think this is a dream, then we are sharing it, I never thought you would reciprocate, ever since we fought with Grom, my worst fear has always been that you would walk away from me."

Luz's eyes widened with surprise.

"Amity..." The human proffered, closing the space between them, wrapping her arms around the witch's waist. "I would never keep you away from me."

"Oh, but I wanted more..." Continued the auburn leaning her head on her girlfriend's shoulder. "I wanted so much more... And every time you told me I was your best friend, how much you cared for me, how important I was to you... At the same time you filled up and broke my heart, I felt selfish for wanting more, and I was afraid to destroy what we already had, even if it was for something I yearned for so much."

Amity relaxed even more as she felt Luz's lips against her hair.

"Would you believe me if I told you something similar was happening to me?"

Amity snorted.

"Really?"

"Yes... It wasn't easy to get you to like me, and I wanted to be closer and closer to you, you accepted with a smile when I called you my best friend, you let me be close to you, closer than anyone else, and that made me very happy... Asking you for more... It scared me. I was terrified that you would push me away again, that you would put up walls again, that-"

Amity's lips interrupted her words.

The kiss was chaste and long, flooded with the peace that clarity brought them.

Amity parted their lips and looked Luz in the eyes for a few moments, then smiled with satisfaction.

"I'm gonna go get the book."

Luz held the grip on her waist to keep her from getting up.

"I don't really feel like reading..." She told her almost in a whisper, then brought her lips to the auburn's cheek.

"Then..." Amity murmured hesitantly as Luz's lips softly and slowly traced her face. "What do you want to do?"

The question floated in the air as, ever so gently, Luz pushed Amity against the bed, flattening her back against the mattress and straddling the witch.

Lowering herself onto her face, the human took the auburn's left hand interlacing their fingers, and bringing their lips together again in a lingering kiss.

Amity responded to the kiss with equal affection, gently moving her mouth against her girlfriend's.

Luz finally pulled her lips apart, moving in tender, brief kisses down the witch's cheek and jaw, until she reached her neck.

The human dipped her nose under Amity's lobe, and inhaled deeply.

"Amity, you smell so good..." She sighed against her skin.

Amity mewled almost inaudibly.

The caresses were a world away from yesterday's, while those burned with fervor and a desire hushed for years, these gave peace and calm, brimming with affection and reassurance.

The kisses on Amity's neck grew slower and longer, as Luz leaned her weight more and more on the witch.

"Amity... Te quiero…

The witch smiled again.

"Yo también te quiero." She answered with fervor.

But even convinced of the affection, the words seemed insufficient.

Was it prudent to say such words after only a few hours into a formal relationship?

Probably not...

But Luz was not known for her prudence.

"Amity..." Pronounced the human again, almost slurring the word.

She breathed in deeply.

"I love you..." She uttered finally to then kiss her collarbone and lean her cheek right over her heart.

Amity's breath caught in her throat.

And again she felt like crying.

A few hours of formal relationship, true, but years of untold love, gathering dust and waiting for its moment to shine.

It was impossible to give another name to the emotions that overwhelmed them.

They knew no love more real than the one they felt for each other.

" Luz..." She uttered at last in a tremulous voice. "I-"

The witch's words were interrupted by a very familiar near-silence.

" Luz?" The witch called without getting an answer.

Amity didn't need to look down to know that Luz lay asleep on her chest, cuddled against her in a posture reminiscent of a Koala.

She recognized Luz's soft snores perfectly.

She snorted softly so as not to wake her, remembering her tired look in the greenhouse and that she had probably spent the night sleepless.

She brought her free hand to Luz's hair and began to stroke it, then slightly tilted her head up and kissed the crown of the human's head.

"I love you too."
