Work Text:
Mia remembers how stressful her ‘job’ could be…or was…considering where it had led her, she believed it was a long time due for her to relax. No more games or dangerous situations, just her and Ethan…living ordinarily, loving extraordinary.
Well…their new ordinary…
Early mornings where she was the first one up to make coffee and she got to watch her husband stumble into the kitchen. Sipping gently at the hot fluid as she watched the light stream through windows and hit on his face or current lack of face while wondering how someone without her background would react to the somehow darkened features of Ethan face, even though he was standing in bright light, his face seemed to be in shadows without any real features besides his red and yellow eyes blinking bleary at her.
They probably would freak out, as for her…there was something so warming as she watched his eyes land on her and the first feature from his normal face was his bright smile.
“Coffee is just how you like it.”, she gestured to the kitchen islander where his cup sat before going back to sipping her own.
It was a slow reform this early in the mornings, she could now make out the happy crinkles around his eyes as he picked up his cup,. It always made her chuckle when she prepared coffee in the morning, his favorite cup had a cartoon corgi on it going “good morning corgi-ous”.
It was abit hard to be upset at his lack of face when he was humming happily and the smile grew more distinct as he picked up the silly little mug.
He never really said much during these times, she wondered if he could or if it had anything to do with his…condition…but he would always look at her with such gentle fondness that he didn’t have to say anything to express his feelings. It wouldn't be long till his teeth went back to being human instead of sharp needles, his nose still alittle bent from an accident from years ago, red eyes settling back into the color she had fell in love with.
She could adjust to falling asleep and waking up to a shadowed face as long as the chest she would curl up to still moved with life. She could get used to early mornings watching her husband come back to humanity. She could and would because she loved him.
He pretty much inhaled the coffee, placing the mug back down and grinning happily at her, “Can always rely on coffee to bring you back to humanity!”
The snort that escaped her from his bad joke was ugly in her opinion but his grin widen, glad she was amused. She wondered how much of that statement he knew was true.
Ethan tilted his head, uncombed hair falling in his face before he blows it back, “Gonna get stuff to start the garden today, do you want me to pick up anything?” He probably was going to get her a gift anyway like he usually did on store trips but it was always good to get ahead on the shopping lists.
Sighing, she places her mug on the counter before looking at him seriously, “Gloves or something, Ethan, please, if your going to be around tools get something for your hands. We do not want another ‘hammer incident’.”
He just laughs, she’s being absolutely serious but she can’t help but smile with him.
