Summary
Shadow works hard to make a living as a pianist in New York, it's practically all he does. Somewhere along the way, after the death of his sister he had lost his passion for not only his instrument but seemingly life itself. Living had apparently lost its vibrancy until, one day, he helps out a blue stranger in need of a drink.

He wanted to feel fresh and new, he wanted to feel like he’d never seen the art-deco wonderland he’s grown accustomed to. He wanted to feel untouched by the word, saved from her suffering. He wanted to feel clean enough to forgive himself for the situation he found himself in.
