Alec had just walked back into the institute when Izzy was in his face.
"Where were you!?" She demanded. "Jace and I were worried sick when Clary told us that she couldn't find you! And then you didn't answer your phone the whole night!" She exclaimed, louder than the first outburst.
"Iz, I'm fine, see." He did a spin to let Izzy do a once over. "I was at Magnus' place, that's all." He said.
"Oh! So the two of you are back together?" She asked curiously.
"Uhm, well, no. He just invited me over to talk about a few downworlder things, and we ended up having dinner and drinks. And yes, maybe things got a little heated, but it was barely anything. I swear!" He promised his sister.
"So you two are friends with benefits now, I see." The younger of the two declared, then wandered off.
"Wait Izzy!" Alec called after her, "What friends with benefits?" He muttered under his breath as he walked away to find Jace.

"Where. Were. You!" Jace exclaimed, pushing him back slightly after each word. "I called you, I messaged you, hell! I went out to look for you! But you were nowhere to be found!"
"Jace, Jace, I'm sorry!" He attempted to reassure the blonde. "I didn't mean to scare you, or anyone for that matter."
"Where were you then?" The shorter of the two demanded.
"I was at Magnus'." He said, with a sigh of defeat. "And before you ask, no we aren't back together, he just wanted to go over a few downworld things with me. We ended up having dinner and a few drinks, and then things escalated a bit, and we fell asleep. I really meant to come back home." He swore to his parabatai.
Looking up he saw a small glint in Jace's eyes, and then the smirk on his face. That look was never a good sign.
"So you two are friends with benefits, good to know!" He laughed, then walked away.
"Jace-!" Alec attempted, but the blonde cut him off.
"Never, and I mean never, do that again though! Understand?" Jace said with a sense of finality. Alec nodded, then the other left the room.
Alec let out a sigh again, still not quite sure what friends with benefits even meant.

Rather than seeking out Clary, Alec decided to go for a walk. He ended up training most of the day, then he got a text from Magnus.
M: Hey, dinner at my place again?
He thought it over, then decided why not!
A: Sure!
M: Great! See you in….?
A: An hour
M: Splendid!
Alec got up from where he was, and went to take a shower. He stopped off in both Jace's and Izzy's rooms before leaving. He told them that he was going, and then both told him to text or call them at some point. He agreed and left.
Once he arrived at Magnus' loft, he rang the buzzer, and waited to be let up. It took only seconds for the door to click unlock, and he was able to go inside. He climbed the rickety stairs to the mansion loft, then pulled out his key once reaching the door. He unlocked it, and let himself in.
"Magnus?" Alec called out.
"Alexander!" The warlock called back, "Are you ready to go?"
"What do you mean, go?" He asked.
"Well, my dear Alexander, we are going to dinner. I made us reservations at a nice restaurant." He replied.
So, the two set off on their dinner plans. Neither of them even had the thought that this would be considered a date. Not until the two ended up at the institute after a walk.
They laughed together as they walked in, some of the shadowhunters giving them side glances and glares. But neither of them really cared.
They soon arrived at Alec's room, Magnus opened the door for them. They both walked inside, and sat down on the mans bed.
After some time of talking, they laid down together, snuggled against one another. They were then interrupted by Izzy bursting in.
"I thought I heard you two! So you are back together!" She exclaimed excitedly.
Ending 1:
"What! No, we aren't." Alec sputtered.
"Wait, we aren't?" Magnus questioned.
Alec looked to Magnus. He took a moment to collect his thoughts, then spoke.
"I didn't think we were dating, not anymore anyway. But if you would like to get back together you would make me very happy."
Magnus nodded his head, then pulled Alec in for a kiss.
Ending Two:
"What! No we aren't dating!" Magnus said whilst sitting up.
"No, we aren't." Alec agreed.
Izzy shook her head, and walked into the room, closing the door behind herself. She sat down at Alecs desk, then turned to the two.
"If you aren't dating, why were you out all night yesterday? If you two aren't dating, why do you keep going to dinner together? If you two aren't dating, why do you still cuddle like you are? If you aren't dating, why do you sleep with one another? Sure some of those things are things friends do, some are things friends with benefits do, but I know you both," she explained, "and neither of you are that simple." She stood up, and walked to the door again.
The two sat in silence together, then looked at one another.
"We never really broke up did we?" Magnus said.
"I think its more that we never stopped dating." Alec replied.
The two looked back at Izzy, and thanked her. She nodded, then left. The two looked back at each other, and gave each other a kiss. They laid back down after, and enjoyed the silence.
Bonus Scene:
They laid in silence for a while, but Alec broke it.
"Hey Magnus?" He asked. His boyfriend hummed in response.
"What are friends with benefits?" He asked the man next to him.
The warlock laughed, then took a moment to reply and explain. Once he had finished explaining, Alec was ready to sleep and not wake up for a while.
