Work Text:
Taehyung had seen an advertisement for a sip and paint class and really wanted to go, but he didn’t want to go alone. He had begged Jimin to go with him; Jimin had resisted until Taehyung had said there was wine involved, then he was all in. They had eaten dinner beforehand, and then had gone. Instead of them all buying each other gifts for Christmas this year, they had drawn names and Taehyung had drawn Namjoon. He was hoping to be able to paint something for his gift. When they arrived, a really cute girl with long dark hair met them at the door.
“Welcome! My name is Y/n. I’ll be the artist tonight. I’m just here to help you if you need it. There are several different wines out and available on the side table along the far wall there. Go ahead and get a glass and choose an easel. Once a few others are here, we will get started,” she said as she led them into the open room.
Once they were in the room, Jimin nudged Taehyung. “Oh, she’s pretty, Taehyungie.”
“Yes, she is. Please behave yourself, Jimin. At least until the painting part is over.”
Taehyung poured himself a glass of a sweet red wine, while Jimin chose a dry white wine before choosing two easels set up side by side. They explored the available brushes and paint colors at their stations as a few others filed in. Finally, after 15 more minutes, Y/n moved to an easel in the middle of the room.
“Welcome to Paint and Sip, Christmas Edition. Tonight, we are going to be painting snowy landscapes. I’ll be painting along with you, so if you are a beginner you can follow along with me, but please feel free to deviate and create your own masterpieces. I’m here to help, so please speak up if you have any questions.”
As Y/n lead the group, talking through painting a snowy meadow. Taehyung loved the cadence of her voice as she spoke of colors and techniques. He could hear her passion for art as she taught the others in the group. Taehyung took a bit of artistic license since he was painting for Namjoon and did snow-capped mountains behind the meadow as the sun was going down. He sipped the last of the wine in his glass as he waited for his painting to dry. Jimin was concentrating incredibly hard on his painting but seemed to be having some difficulty getting it how he wanted.
“Tae,” he whined. “How are you so good at this?”
“I’ve painted before, Jiminie. But your painting isn’t so bad for your first try.”
“I think it’s lovely, Jimin-ssi,” Y/n commented from behind them. “For your first go at painting, I think you did really well. And Taehyung-ssi, your painting is beautiful as well. I love the mountains in yours.”
Taehyung murmured thank you before returning his glass to the side board. Jimin and Y/n chatted for a few more minutes as Taehyung took the brushes he’d used and the paint tray over to a sink in the corner to clean them. After cleaning the brushes, he washed them as well as he could and then dried them with paper towels before returning them back to the easel he had painted on.
Jimin put final touches on his painting before downing the final wine in his glass. Y/n brought over a hairdryer and showed them how to use it on low heat to help the paint dry quicker so they could take them with them.
“Do you think Joonie-hyung will like the painting I made?” Taehyung asked.
“You know he will. He loves nature so much, and the mountains are a lovely touch. You did really well, TaeTae.”
As they were leaving, they thanked Y/n and signed up for another class scheduled for a few weeks after Christmas. They had both had a lot of fun and were hoping they could talk some of the others into coming with them. Jungkook would be amazing at it if they could convince him to come.
That night, Taehyung went ahead and wrapped the painting and put it under the tree in preparation for Christmas morning. He and Jimin shared a snack on the sofa and chatted about the day.
“So…while you were cleaning up, Y/n and I were talking. She said she’d be willing to do a private group session for all of us if the other guys wanted. I thought I would mention it to everyone. She gave me her card so that we schedule it whenever we have the chance. Besides, I think you would like to see her again,” Jimin mentioned.
Taehyung smiled softly. “That would be lovely, Jiminie. I know we all drew names, but maybe we should give that to the group as a gift for Christmas. Just as a way to release some stress after all our schedules slow down a bit. Let’s talk to the guys tomorrow and try to schedule it.”
They chatted for a bit, making plans for the next day. “Thank you for going with me, Jiminie.”
“Of course, Tae. What kind of soul mate would I be if I didn’t go with you to do things like that?”
As Taehyung was falling asleep that night, curled up with Yeontan tucked against his chest, he noticed that he was happier and more at peace than he’d been in a while. Something about painting something for someone he cared about with his best friend had replenished his energy in a way he hadn’t expected. Maybe he would be taking many more of Y/n’s paint and sip classes than he’d first anticipated.
