Work Text:
Jungkook wakes up to the dripping sound of the coffee machine and a faint humming, he cracks one eye open to see his alarm blaring 8:26 a.m. at him. It’s still pretty early to face the world right now, Jungkook thinks. The next thing he notices is the smell of sandalwood, a good smell that makes him close his eyes again and press his face against the sheets. They still feel warm and make him want to fall back asleep, but the quiet hum compels him to leave the warmth of the sheets and to look for his socks. He always insists on wearing socks to bed, he always toes them off in the late hours and has to look for them in the morning. Yoongi asks him why he even bothers to wear them when he ends up barefoot, trying to sound annoyed yet the fond look on his face says otherwise.
Slowly but surely, Jungkook pads towards the sound of the coffee machine. The humming has now turned to an offkey low muttered song and Jungkook can’t fight the smile that starts taking over his face. Jungkook takes a minute to just stand in the hallway and looks at the back of his boyfriend. Yoongi teases him for it but Jungkook just can’t help himself when he just takes a moment to look and appreciates his boyfriend’s beauty. “You’re the beautiful one,” Yoongi always says, when Jungkook tells him so. “You and your stupidly handsome face”
Yoongi doesn’t seem to notice him until he turns around and reaches for a napkin, he smiles when his eyes land on Jungkook. “Hey bun,” he rasps in a low voice, his lips pressing thinly like they always do when he’s trying to suppress a smile. “Was I too loud?” Yoongi asks as he leans against the kitchen counter of their shoebox apartment. Jungkook just shakes his head and Yoongi hums. “What’s that look for?”
“Nothing hyung, I’m good, everything’s good” Jungkook says softly as he wiggles his toes in his socks. His fingers ache to hold onto his boyfriend and not let go for a long time.
Yoongi cocks his head a little to the side and huffs. “Okay bun, then come and help me and chop these vegetables.” Yoongi says as he turns around and gets back to cooking breakfast.
Not bothering to do as he was told, Jungkook walks up to Yoongi and snakes his arms around his middle. He groans in the back of his throat and buries his head against Yoongi’s neck. “I missed you” he whispers into Yoongi’s skin as his arms tighten a fraction.
One of Yoong’s hands reaches over and rests above one of Jungkook’s and squeezes softly. “I’m here, bun,” He says lightly. “Just wanted to start up on breakfast.” Yoongi elaborates as he slightly turns his head and tries to press a kiss to Jungkook’s hair.
“That’s not what I meant, hyung.” Jungkooks whines into the crook of Yoongi’s neck. “You know that.”
And Yoongi does know. He had just come back home yesterday night from a trip back to Daegu. He came home to an already asleep Jungkook, wrapped up between their bed sheets. He always says Jungkook sleeps like the dead but not when it comes to Yoongi, like he’s always looking for him even when he’s asleep. That’s how he found Jungkook last night, who barely cracked an eye open but still beckoned him to join him in bed. Just to throw a leg over Yoongi’s and to sneak a hand under his shirt, going back to sleep instantly.
Usually Jungkook would go back to Daegu with him, but school has been particularly hard and he just couldn’t make it this time. His last university year has been slowly draining his energy and then there’s this nagging thought that makes him stress over graduation and his classes. Everything has been slowly becoming a worrying pressure and Jungkook feels like life is hard to face on most days.
“I know, bun. I’m back now, you’ll get tired of having me here in no time, you’ll see.” Yoongi says, and turns around in Jungkook’s embrace. Breakfast now long forgotten. “You know you’re doing great, right?” he asks as his arms snake around Jungkook’s neck.
“Am I?” Jungkook answers in a whisper as his eyes fix on the peeking collarbone under Yoongi’s oversized shirt. He’s pretty sure that it’s one of his shirts but doesn’t comment on it, he’s always liked seeing Yoongi in his clothes.
“Of course, baby.” Yoongi answers immediately and cups Jungkook’s cheek with his right hand. His thumb gently smoothing under Jungkook’s eye, where he knows his skin is dark from lack of proper rest. “You’re the most hardworking person I know.” He speaks gently as Jungkook closes his eyes and leans his face into Yoongi’s hand and kisses his palm tenderly. “Honestly I’m not really sure how you do it most times but I admire you so much.”
Slowly, the pressure in Jungkook’s chest starts letting up.
“And guess what?” Yoongi continues.
“What?” He asks into the space between them.
Yoongi is now cupping his face between both hands and makes eye contact with Jungkook to make sure that he’s listening. “I love you,” He says in the most assuring voice “And I’m so proud of who you are.” He inches forward until his lips are brushing with Jungkook’s. “I’m sorry you’ve been having a hard time,” He pecks Jungkook’s lips in a soft caress. “You can always come to me and I’ll help you in whatever way I can.”
“Hyung,” Jungkook says with his eyes closed. Breathes in one, two, three times and then opens his eyes. “Kiss me already, will you?” He surges forward and closes the small space between them.
Yoongi huffs and smiles into the kiss. His hands go from Jungkook’s face to his hair and his neck, caressing as he takes Jungkook’s bottom lip between his own, tugging softly. Jungkook whines gently as he parts his lips for Yoongi, who licks into his mouth in response. Jungkook’s soft lips move against Yoongi’s slightly chapped ones and time seems to stutter to a stop as Yoongi deepens the kiss.
A different kind of pressure starts to take over Jungkook’s body and he finally feels as if he's able to breathe. They part slowly and Yoongi keeps on peppering small and soft kisses to the corner of Jungkook’s mouth, and his nose, and his cupid bow, and then the other corner of his mouth. Not stopping until Jungkook laughed. “Stop.” He said into Yoongi’s mouth, who just smiled likewise.
“Never”
Jungkook breathes in Yoongi’s scent, the comforting sandalwood bringing him peace. Maybe things aren’t so hard, Jungkook thinks as he basks in the embrace of his loved one. He wouldn’t mind having to face life with Yoongi next to him, holding his hand and going through life. He wants this forever, for as long as he can, he realizes. The realization spreads through his whole body and leaves him feeling warm. Life isn’t as terrifying as he thought it was, Jungkook thinks and tightens his embrace. “I love you, hyung,” He says, and falls deeper into the comforting feeling.
