Never Seen Before In Heartland

Summary:

Yuma was just walking around when he saw ...

Oh so that's a synchro summon.

Notes:

I needed a synchro summon to take place in a duel. Somehow Jack and Kaito inserted themselves.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Yuma is happy everything is back to normal.

Well, as normal as it can be when you got involved in an eon long war between two dimensions.

Two dimensions you happen to have friends in because of some stuff involving reincarnation.

Yeah.

Besides all that.

Normal day in Heartland City.

Then Yuma hears something he has never heard before.

"SYNCHRO SUMMON"

To be honest Yuma does not know what a synchro summon is.

He does know it exists.

It is difficult not to know it exists.

After all, it is written on some of his cards "cannot be used to synchro summon".

Yuma does not read cards often, it is way too boring, but Astral's life depended on him not losing the Numbers, so he could not NOT read his own cards to make a good deck.

Letting a friend die is less cool than reading walls of text.

But what a synchro summon really is.

No.

Not a clue.

Nobody in Heartland uses synchro.

Some people use fusion.

Kaito even has a ritual monster.

But synchro?

Yuma never saw a synchro summon before today.

White stars sliding between green circles in a ray of light.

It looks almost as cool as XYZ.

Almost.

The man who summoned the monster is one of the most intimidating duelists Yuma has ever seen.

He has spikey blond hair and wears a long white trench coat.

His purple eyes piercing everyone who stands in his way.

He almost looks as scary as Kaito back when he was a number hunter.

...

Wait.

The man's opponent is Kaito.

Before Yuma knows it he is rambling to his friend "Kaito! Who are you dueling? Can I duel him too? When will we duel again?"

Kaito's opponent doesn't seem to take too kindly to the duel being interrupted.

Kaito's own response is something along the lines of "Let's talk later" which is better than the usual, being ignored, but still not great.

Not that Kaito is good at communication anyway.

Yuma mumbles an apology to the intimidating guy Kaito is facing and runs of to the side of the field to spectate.

Then he spots someone looking at him. Looking amused?

It is hard to tell, his expression is pretty neutral.

He wears a standard D-gazer and is probably also here for the duel.

Yuma has never seen him before, so he is probably cheering on the scary guy.

Interesting.

He should talk to him.

So, Yuma approaches the blue-eyed man with the yellow tattoo on his cheek.

"So you are here to root for the scary guy in the white trench coat?" he asks.

"Which one?" the stranger asks back.

Good point.

"The one that is not Kaito." Yuma clarifies.

Astral probably would have pointed out that that was not a good way to 'define' this.

Whatever.

"I'm here for Jack." The man answers.

So the duelist Kaito is facing is called Jack.

Good to know.

It tells Yuma nothing though. He does not really follow the pro-circuit.

"Want to duel when their duel is finished?" Yuma asks.

Yuma hopes that tiny smile on the man's lips is a yes.
