Don't Let Me Down

Summary:

The storm is approaching and fears reappear. Jonathan is going to have to survive the stormy day (and night) by himself... or not?

Notes:

Good! I haven't been here for a long time, I don't have much to do the truth.
But hey, I hope you like this one-shot that came out inspired by a tweet.

Work Text:

Don't Let Me Down

The forecast for the day announced torrential electric rains that would last several days. Jonathan heard this from Giorno's voice, and all his positive energies fell apart leaving a horrible feeling in his chest. It happened every time it was going to rain, that feeling of alert, that something bad was coming. He had gotten up with the best of intentions, today he wanted to train a little and then spend the rest of the afternoon with Dio (as he always did). That news made everything go wrong.

When he woke up, around eight fifteen in the morning, he saw the gray sky from the window. He had gotten out of bed, careful not to wake the vampire and go take a shower. On leaving, and while changing, he walked to the window and opened the shutters, letting in the cold morning wind. He could smell that characteristic rain scent that instead of calming him, made him nervous and restless. He looked at Dio, who was curled up in bed, and thought to get into bed and wait for it to be later to get up, he was not going to do anything with time like this and his nerves eating him inside. But his stomach rumbled for food. He groaned, touching his belly and left the room.

In the dining room, Jonathan was having a latte with some toast. He was being accompanied by Giorno who was in front of him. They were both in comfortable silence enjoying breakfast. About ten minutes later, they saw the blond man coming down who was only wearing a blue jumpsuit (belonging to Jonathan) and gray leggings. He was angry. Dio would usually go up to Jojo and steal some toast or pull his hair to bite his cheek in greeting. But this time he passed by and went straight to get a glass and pour himself some wine.

- Good morning...- The Joestar said in a low voice, taking a toast to his mouth.

- You left the window open.- Dio said, approaching them, sitting on the table next to Jonathan.

- Sorry, I forgot.- He apologized with an absent gaze, lost in his coffee.

Dio noticed that absence and sighed rolling his eyes. He didn't feel like dealing with Jonathan's problems.

- It looks like it's going to rain...- Giorno commented with a smile, looking up and directing it to the open windows. - Now you can be hanging around the house early.- He said, looking at the vampire who smirked at him.

Dio settled on the table and looked at Jojo who was staring at his coffee.

- Yes, but I wanted to go out today...- He commented, bringing his amber eyes to his son. The diver settled in to show his hands.

- You can, it's cloudy. So the sun won't hurt you.- Giorno said, finishing his tea.

- Um... Yeah, but I don't think Jojo wants to go out today, right?- He asked, looking at Jonathan. The Joestar didn't react, so Dio snorted and hit him on the shoulder with his leg. - Jojo? Did you hear me?- He asked seriously.

Jojo looked up. - Huh? Yes…- He murmured, returning his gaze to the coffee cup, already empty. He frowned as he rose from his chair as he took his things. -It's going to rain.- He said without looking at anyone in particular.

When he was about to disappear from the sight of both blondes, Giorno asked. - Is something wrong?- to which Jonathan answered bluntly. - No- without even looking at his face.

- Is something wrong? - Giorno questioned Dio.

- The stupid storm. That happens.- The vampire answered, finishing drinking what was left of the wine.

- What's with it?-

- He gets nervous when it's about to rain, I don't know why...- He commented without much importance, getting off the table.

- I see...- Giorno murmured. - Could you ask him what's wrong?- He asked, looking at his father, Dio looked at him with an amused eyebrow. - Or so I would have asked if you were a good person.- The boss said with a sigh. Dio smirked at him, adjusting his sweatshirt sleeves and headed for the kitchen door. - Could you please not do it in the kitchen?- He yelled with a tired look.

- No promises!- Dio said with a smile and moving his hips, entering the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Dio observed Jonathan washing his cup and dishes in silence. He could see Jojo's worried profile, and could even see the slight trembling of his body.

Dio came up from behind and shoved his hands under the human's military green T-shirt while grinning wickedly. Jojo winced and tensed his entire body.

- You're distracted.- The blonde said, passing his hands to Jonathan's pectorals, feeling his skin crawl at his icy touch.

- No!- Jojo muttered, putting the dishes on the tray, grabbing Dio's wrists. - What are you doing?!- He asked, frowning and looking back.

- Nothing.- He said with a warm smile (completely false), sliding his long fingers through the hard texture of Jonathan's muscles until he put his hands in his diver's pocket, stopping “abusing” the Joestar's pectorals.

Jonathan shot him a reproachful look, snorting. He shook his head and put the used thing on the dryer. In front of him was a container of chocolate chip cookies that he didn't hesitate to open and start eating. He turned on his heel, leaning against the counter.

Dio, to all this, was in front of him simply analyzing Jojo's slightly awkward movements. Noticing that his human was eating the second cookie so far this minute, he sighed rolling his eyes.

- You're worried...- The vampire said with a hint of amusement.

- Eh? No. I'm not worried.- Jojo replied, shaking his head slightly and looking away a bit.

The blonde took the cookie from his hand and placed it in the container. - You eat when you're worried... Or you have anxiety...- He said, putting one of his hands on his hips. - I came up with several ideas so you don't worry about the weather.- He murmured with a lustful look, grabbing the collar of the other's shirt.

Dio approached Jonathan, sticking their bodies together, giving him a kiss on the lips and then going down the chin and ending on the neck licking the scar. Jojo took Dio's waist in his hands and pulled him away from his body. He looked down nervously.

- No… I'm not in the mood, Dio.- The Joestar sputtered, releasing the blonde.

The vampire sighed feeling like his patience was running out. - Jojo... You're like this since I told you it was going to rain.- He said softly.

- I know... It's just...- He snorted looking at the window, the sky was a very dark gray with shades of green and the trees were moving violently because of the wind. - I'm not comfortable with the rain...- He said, bringing his eyes to Dio's.

- It’s a simple rain, you act as if every time it rained you hear the thunder rumbling and the water poured into the gaps of your horrible room and you had to cover yourself with a simple sheet to get out of the cold.- He said seriously.

Jonathan felt some guilt because he knew Dio was talking about his childhood. - It's just... It makes me uncomfortable... The noise...- He murmured still with his eyes downcast.

Dio could only roll his eyes and shake his head, he brought his hand to Jojo's left cheek to lift his face. So he could see those eyes, turbulent and lost in a sea of anxiety, clearly.

- How old are you?- Dio asked, his voice a little softer.

Jonathan looked at him strangely. -... Twenty-two.- He answered after a few seconds.

- Twenty-two years old and you're afraid of a storm.- The vampire said with a mocking smile.

- I'm not afraid of it!- Jojo countered with a frown pouting with his lips. - It makes me uncomfortable...- He whispered, taking Dio's hand

The blonde chuckled at his human's display of maturity. He brought his other hand to Jojo's opposite cheek and squeezed without exerting much force.

- Of course it makes you uncomfortable, that's why your heart beats faster than usual and you have nervous attitudes.- He said with total irony. Jojo was about to protest but Dio stopped him. - You are an open book for me Jojo... I know your every move perfectly, you can't lie to me...- He brought his face closer. - Besides, it’s evident that you are afraid of it...- He finished with a kiss on those parted and trembling lips. The bad thing about having such good hearing is that he could hear Jonathan's heartbeat and it bothered him to hear his heart beat so fast when he didn't have to.

Jonathan smiled at him resting his hands on the vampire's slim waist. Perhaps it would not be bad to be distracted for a while… He hugged Dio around the waist, deepening the kiss. Dio smiled to himself and lowered his hands to the Joestar's navy blue pants, but a sudden thunder rumbled through the walls of the house. Jojo separated from Dio as soon as he heard that thunder ring and start the rain. The blonde listened to the opponent's heartbeat and rapid breathing, to which he frowned.

- No... I can't Dio...- Jojo muttered, looking away. - Besides, why are you so…- He searched for the right words with his gaze into Dio's glowing yellow eyes. - Hot...- He sputtered, releasing the vampire's body.

Dio grabbed him by his shirt and trousers. - Jonathan... You've been like this for a week...- He said with contained fury sharpening his reddish eyes.

Jojo took him by the wrists and pulled him away from him. - It's your fault for telling me it was about to rain.- He said, pouting with his lips.

Dio looked at him in disbelief, he was blaming him! Because of his fear of storms! That wouldn’t let it pass. - Well. It’s my fault that you’re a coward and you cannot bear the idea that the water is going to fall from the sky making noise.- He said sarcastically, directing his eyes to the window, observing the torrential rain outside.

- I'm not a coward!- Jojo yelled, taking a step forward.

Lightning struck the ground.

Jonathan turned his head towards the window with fear in his eyes and cowered in place. As he began to breathe faster and faster, his jaw clenched and he shook his head.

- It seems to me that you are. You just don't want to accept your fear.- He said disinterestedly, adjusting a few strands behind his ear. Jonathan glared at him, to which he rolled his eyes and hugged Jojo over his shoulders. - Forget about everything... Focus on me. Only you and I exist in this world.- He murmured in a soft and honeyed tone of voice.

Another thunder rumbled through the house.

Jonathan's frightened eyes lit up with lightning, his hands gripped Dio's diver, and the purest expression of terror crossed his face. He shook his head with his eyes tightly closed, pulling away from the vampire.

- No... I can...- He looked up, opened his mouth to limit something else, but nothing came out. He huffed into the fists of his hands. - I'm going to... The library...- He said with a somewhat shaky voice turning quickly.

Giorno, who was entering through the door, stepped aside as quickly as he could when he saw how Jojo approached with no intention of stopping. He managed to make out the nervousness in his body. He entered the kitchen with surprise on his face.

-You didn't find out what's wrong with him, did you?- Young Don asked, leaving things in the pan.

- I already told you, the rain. But it seems that he doesn’t want to accept it.- Dio said, leaning against the counter.

- Do you know why he is afraid of it? Perhaps, knowing the origin of fear, we can help him.- Giorno commented, washing his dishes and spoons.

Dio chuckled. - Because he’s stupid who doesn’t accept his childhood fears...- He said keeping his hands in the diver's pocket. He looked down with a slight frown. - He acts as if he suffered in the rainy nights...- He clicked with his tongue. - He never had to sleep in a wet bed, he just…- He murmured.

Giorno, who had finished washing, turned around and fixed his eyes on his father. He could feel familiar with what he was telling, for he had been through that, at some point in his terrible childhood. So he could understand the vampire's bad mood.

- Well... I'll go to my office. Please don't get in trouble.- He asked, leaving the kitchen.

Dio didn’t respond and returned his gaze to the window. Yawn. He'd go see Jojo later, he'd be fine without him for a couple of hours.

Anxiety Attack. So long ago he didn't have one that he had even forgotten they existed. He closed all the windows and turned on all the lights in the library, sat in an embroidered chair with his hands supporting his head, crouched down. He listened to the beating of his own heart in his hatreds, his harsh and uncontrolled breathing, that feeling of fear, memories without images of a stormy night. His body was shaking like jelly. He hated feeling so much like this, so weak in the face of his memories.

Jonathan was having an anxiety attack. In the solitude of the room full of books. There was no one to accompany him, but he was used to it. No one had helped him when he passed...

Except...

Dio.

He was by his side, reproaching him for being afraid of the rain whenever he could; but even so, Dio was with him for the day. The nights had to be spent alone in his huge room. Twelve years of his life living like this until Dio appeared in it and the rainy days became more bearable. At least he had someone to distract himself with.

Jojo shook his head, hitting his thigh with his fist. He jumped up and found a random book to read, put on music so he wouldn't have to listen to the rain.

Despite his attempts, the noises of thunder didn't escape his ears. His breathing was altering and he was beginning to feel dizzy. The minutes passed and he felt like the left part of his body was tingling. He was feeling horrible, he wanted to throw up, cry, scream. He spent four hours like this, at times everything returned to "normal", he continued to feel mild dizziness and numbness, but his breathing calmed down. Although it didn't last long, when thunder echoed in the room, everything came back. He was suffering in silence.

His eyes were shining from the amount of water they were collecting, but he would not cry, he would not have the luxury of crying. He was an adult, he wasn't going to cry. Dio would make fun of him if he cried. Luckily, Giorno showed up and distracted him with his comments a bit. Thanks to Giorno he was able to pass (with less fear) the hours; However, Giorno couldn't be with him all day, he had things to do.

Jonathan was left alone once more. Sunk in his fears. He wanted to hug something... Someone... Minutes passed and his anxiety attack came back and he thought it was about to turn into a panic attack. He didn't want that. He got up from the chair and turned off the musical center, his legs were weak and the shaking of his hands didn't help much. He shook his head, jaw clenched, went to the door and went in search of Dio. He didn't know where it was, but he could guess.

As he walked he tried not to think of anything other than to keep his breathing calm. With every lightning or thunder he heard, a tremor caused his legs to fail and he had to cling to the walls. He bit his lip every time he felt that latent fear inside him. The helplessness of not being able to control his own actions, that moment of weakness that he hated to have and that he didn't know how to fix.

He was thinking of going to his room, surely Dio would be there sleeping. But as he passed the living room, he saw that Dio was taking a nap on the three-seater sofa. He smiled walking until he sat on the carpeted floor, putting his head on his right arm that was resting on the sofa, next to Dio. He looked at that fine-featured face, its mouth ajar, letting out its fangs, and that now relaxed frown gave the vampire's face an image of pure tranquility. Peace of mind that he didn't have and yearned for right now.

The blinds were open, letting in outside light and with it the rays and raindrops hitting the glass. Jonathan tried to ignore all that, all sounds foreign to him and Dio. But it was hard to concentrate, he sighed, calming his nerves.

- I never told you... Thank you for being there... I know that it wasn’t your true intention to help me, that you only wanted to irritate me and take away all happiness... But... You were there when I needed company the most and I thank you for that...- As he spoke with a soft voice, so as not to wake Dio up, he smiled warmly. His nerves and tremors were disappearing as he spoke, it was as if talking to Dio (even though he is sleeping) calmed him down. - I hate feeling this... Having... Discomfort from the rain, from the noises... I can't control myself and it frustrates me... Maybe I'm not that strong in that sense and you're right...- He paused and looked at the sleeping face of the vampire, he smiled, closing his eyes. - Neither of us realized how much that distraction you gave me was useful ... You made me spend the day in one more way... Amena... And I cowered by not asking for your help at night, I didn't even know if you were going to accept my request... The nights were the worst... I don't know how I managed to spend them alone...- He laughed at the memory. - Surely it's because I wanted to see your face every morning, even if it's that mocking face...-

Without realizing it, he was falling asleep. The mental expense that he suffered in the morning asked him to rest for a moment. And so Jonathan stayed asleep on the floor next to Dio.

The storm had calmed down a bit.

It was nine o'clock at night, the storm was still as noisy as before. Dio got up from his long nap, stretching like a cat. He looked around and found the house quietly, he thought Jojo would be hanging around. He sat on the sofa stretching a little, got up from the place and walked to his room. It seemed strange to him that he had not come across the Joestar on that journey, he passed through the library and wasn't there, neither in the dining room, much less in the courtyard. He arrived at his room and when he opened the door a stream of icy wind collided with his body, he had sworn that he closed the window.

The window was open, the rain entered the room, wetting the floor near the window. The nightstands were lit giving a warm ambient light. Jonathan was in front of the window, trembling and muttering something unintelligible.

Lightning struck the ground and a scream came from Jojo's throat.

- I'M NOT AFRAID!- He yelled, closing his eyes intensely, tears falling down his cold cheeks.

Dio froze for a second, but when he heard that scream, he came to himself and ran to the window to slam it shut.

- What are you doing?!- The blond yelled angrily.

Jonathan fell to the floor on his knees, sobbing, hugging himself. Dio didn't know how to react, many years ago he had not been in a position to help someone. What did he have to do? Jojo was babbling. The vampire approached him thinking how to calm him down.

- Jojo… Hey…- He called him in the softest voice he could do.

- I'm… wea-eak…- Jojo murmured, hiding his face in his arms. Dio crouched down to keep up with him. -I'm we… Eak… Dio…- Jonathan's brittle voice echoed in his head. - I have...- He raised his face wet with tears. - Fear...- He whispered.

Jonathan hid his face again and huddled in place. He kept muttering things that Dio didn't quite understand.

- Jonathan...- He said gently hugging him, Jojo buried his face in Dio's chest, without stopping crying or shaking.

Dio only managed to caress his back and hair. Everything was wet and cold. He still didn't know what to do or say. A memory flashed through his mind, one that left a bitter taste in his throat.

- I'm.. A-fra--id...- Jojo whispered, separating from Dio.

- I know... It's okay Jojo... It's normal...- The blonde muttered looking at Joestar with a smile.

Jonathan continued to cry silently, hiding his face. -I hate... This...- He sputtered, shaking his head. - I won't stop... Trem... Trembling...- He said, looking at his hands. - Why...- a thunderclap stopped him and he sank further into the place. - Am I scared?!- He yelled to cover the noise outside.

Dio took hold of the chin, but Jonathan wouldn't let him. - Jojo... Look at me, come on...- He asked with affection. His more “compassionate" side was beginning to emerge. The Joestar shook his head, muttering. - Jojo... Look at me...- He repeated.

- Nno…- He whispered.

The vampire took the opponent's face with both hands, forcing him to look at him. - Jojo… Open your eyes.- He said firmly. Jonathan shook his head, trying to get out of the blonde's grasp. - Jojo... Come on... I want to see your eyes...- He asked again.

Jonathan took a deep breath as he slowly opened his eyes. Dio could see those blue eyes, swollen and red from crying so much, looking at him with fear. - Hmm... -

- Eh?- Jojo was still crying, his hands were clinging to the blonde's forearms.

- What is this?- Dio wondered with a smile and a raised eyebrow. He wiped away Jojo's tears and the hair stuck to his forehead with his fingertips. Jonathan's confused face seemed tender. - Am I seeing a child?- He questioned with a smile. - It's okay for you to feel that way, Jojo… Let's go take a shower, will you? Together in the hot water.- He asked, caressing the opponent's cheeks.

Jojo shook his head. - Boy? I'm a... Child...- He murmured, lowering his gaze.

- You have had this fear since you were a child... Don't think about it so much, yes? I'm trying to... Distract you.- He commented, averting his eyes. Thunder rumbled through the room causing Jojo to slip out of his grasp and hide his face on Dio's chest.

- Don't make fun of me...- Jojo muttered, hugging Dio tightly.

Dio sighed, laughing to himself. He stroked the damp hair with his long fingers.

- You're soaked… Did you go out onto the balcony?- Asked the blonde in a soft voice, he could hear the heartbeat slowing down, he smiled. Jojo nodded slightly. - Why did you go out?- He asked, surprised.

Jonathan pulled away to speak, and wiped his face with the back of his hand. - I thought that... If I was facing the storm... All of this... Wou--ld pass me... By.- He murmured softly, now that he said it out loud, it sounded totally stupid.

Dio shook his head without erasing his smile, he was amazed at Jojo's attitudes at times. They were so… Childish. - Of course you do Jojo... Of course you do...- He said, looking up at the ceiling.

Jojo pouted with a frown. When he saw him, he felt that he would melt with tenderness, but he ignored that thought, holding the opponent's face. He heard the rapid breathing, it bothered him. And also how those eyes that always radiated light and happiness were now full of fear and pain. Dio didn't understand why Jonathan was so afraid, he had gone through horrible things that caused him various traumas but none of them turned him into a baby crying for his mother. Maybe because he never had time to cry.

It wasn't the first time I saw Jojo like this, when they were teenagers it happened many times. But Jojo was busy during the day with his studies and in the afternoon he was there to distract him… He hadn't realized that he was helping him pass the time like this, he didn't even know that the Joestar was suffering from trauma.

Maybe I did it unconsciously. Yes, that's what happened. But... It had already rained and he hadn't gotten like that... Right? Jojo, did you always get like this when it rained? I never realized? Now more than ever I'm by your side, it can't be that I haven't noticed… Nothing escapes me! Although... You didn't ask me for help... Like today... Why?

- Come on, get up. You're all wet and you can catch a cold...- Dio commented, starting to get up from the floor. -I'm not going to take care of you if you get sick.- He added. But Jonathan didn't get up. - Jojo…- He called with a firm voice.

- I can't…- Jonathan whispered, hugging himself.

Dio tilted his head with an arched brow. - Why not?-

- My legs... No...- He murmured with his head down.

The blonde snorted and with his force lifted Jojo off the floor. - Take off your clothes.- He ordered with his hands on his waist.

Jonathan looked at him with lowered eyebrows and no smile, something that bothered Dio, Jojo had to smile and be happy. The vampire shook his head and started to remove the other's clothes himself, but Jojo's hands stopped him and he hugged him, burying his face in the blonde's neck. Dio froze, heard the heartbeat normalize, and his breathing slowed. Jonathan hugged him very tightly, he was cold, it didn't matter. Dio returned the hug and without realizing it, he began to breathe slowly and calmly. Jojo followed suit after a few seconds.

They stayed like this for a few more minutes until Jonathan loosened his grip.

- Are we going to bathe?- Dio asked. Jonathan nodded looking at the window, Dio grabbed his face and forced him to look into his eyes. - Don't look away from me... It's just you and me. Yes? Forget everything else, that doesn't matter.- He said seriously but with a soft touch to which Jojo nodded with a slight smile.- Good.- He finished and released the Joestar's head.

Jonathan undressed very slowly under Dio's watchful eye. Not that it bothered him far from it, but he felt embarrassed by the situation. He didn't want Dio to see him in such a deplorable state. He had sat up on the bed to remove his pants more comfortably when thunder made an appearance and his body tensed and his breathing was out of control for a moment.

Dio saw this and approached him. - Jojo, breathe deeply and slowly... Don’t be upset, you know it’s useless and you will get worse.- He tried to advise stroking the hair, tousling it a little.

The Joestar nodded and tried to calm himself down quickly. He smiled at the vampire and got up from the bed still with trembling in his body. They both headed to the bathroom, while Dio took a quick shower, Jonathan was sitting on the toilet, looking at him with concern.

- I'm sorry…- Jojo whispered while playing with his fingers.

- Hm?- Dio was concentrating on cleaning himself that he didn't hear what the other said.

- I'm sorry.- He said, raising his voice that was still trembling a little.

Dio finished bathing and approached Jojo with a serious look. - I hope this is the last time this happens.- He threatened, placing himself in front of him.

Jonathan looked at him with the same worried face. - I don't think it will stop happening to me...- He sputtered, lowering his head.

Dio grabbed him by the hair to lift his head. - Go find me if this happens to you again. Did you hear?- He said releasing him and averting his eyes. - Go take a bath.- He ordered.

The Joestar nodded and walked (with a bit of difficulty) to the shower. His eyes were heavy from crying and the hot water didn't help the dream gain territory in his being. He yawned rubbing his eyes, he had already slept badly these days and this event left him even more tired. He finished bathing and came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and another on his head to dry his hair a bit. Dio was in bed in his nightwear, it seemed strange to him since Dio didn't usually sleep that early. His nervousness was still on the surface but luckily the rain had calmed down a bit. He sat on the edge of the bed and put on his clothes that were strangely on the bed.

Dio was wearing a white long-sleeved T-shirt, belonging to Jojo, and his fine black underwear. While Jonathan bathed, he found his clothes and mopped the floor of the room a bit. Once Jojo got dressed and got into bed, they both fell silent.

- It's still early.- The vampire commented, sitting in the middle of the bed. - Aren't you hungry?- He asked as he combed his hair. Jonathan shook his head without looking at him.

Silence reigned again, only the raindrops hitting the glass of the windows could be heard.

Jonathan was hugging himself, breathing loudly. Dio closed his eyes and sighed. He approached Jojo and grabbed him under the armpits and dragged him to his side, Jojo let himself be carried away and leaned his head against Dio's chest and passed his right arm over Dio's body. The vampire began to comb the opponent's blue hair with his fingers.

- Sorry.- Jonathan whispered.

- What do you see?- Dio asked softly, staring at the window. - When thunder rings, you close your eyes. What do you see when you close them?- He questioned with the same tone of voice.

- Nothing... - He said with a soft voice. - I have no memories of images... Only... Sounds... My mother's cry... The noise of the horses... The thunder... My cry...- He named slowly and with each sentence, he clung to Dio more.

- I see...- The blonde muttered. He looked down at Jonathan. His heartbeat felt more normal and that calmed him down. - Do you think you're going to be able to sleep?- Dio questioned, settling into bed.

- No... But I'll try... I don't want to bother you more than I already did...- He sputtered, rubbing his cheek against the vampire's chest.

- At least you can speak fluently... - He said in a sigh. - As long as you don't wet the bed…- He added with a mocking smile.

Jojo got up looking at him confused. - What are you talking about?- He said quickly with a frown.

- When you were a child you wet the bed...- He commented without erasing the sly smile on his lips.

- Lie! I never wet the bed!- He screamed with a blush on his cheeks.

Dio chuckled. - Seriously? So those maids were lying?- He said in amazement, clearly false.

- Yes!- The Joestar replied with a pout on his lips.

Dio had made it up, he never heard a maid talk about it, but he needed to see another feeling in that downcast face. He smiled at him in amusement. - Although I also heard that you slept with a stuffed animal during those nights.- He said, taking his amber eyes around the room. He could see how that slight blush now reached the tips of the Joestar's ears. - So I guess now I'm that stuffed animal.- He said, removing the hair tenderly. He was glad to see Jonathan in a better mood.

They fell silent, Dio didn't want to ask any more, and Jonathan didn't want to talk. Time passed, when lightning or thunder sounded, Jonathan shifted between the sheets but didn't get much upset. Dio without realizing it, began to remember what rainy nights were like in England. He remembered when he was afraid and refused to sleep, he remembered how his mother took him in and sang soft lullabies to him until he fell asleep. He remembered that motherly warmth and those songs. Dio closed his eyes and without realizing it, began to sing in a low voice, almost like a whisper. Absorbed by reality.

Jonathan was about to fall asleep, the soft caresses lulled him but a voice kept him awake. A voice that he believed to be extinct in Dio. He was calm, gentle, showing love to every word, Dio was singing. He wasn't surprised that Dio sang, he did it from time to time (whenever he was in a very good mood) but he never sang with that tone of voice so… Warm. He preferred not to move and continue listening to that lullaby.

Minutes passed and Dio kept trying to remember the lyrics of the song. Until in a moment Jojo moved to lift his head and look at the concentrated but calm face of the blonde. Dio opened his eyes and saw that pair of huge sapphires looking at him with love and surprise. He automatically stopped singing and felt somewhat embarrassed at being discovered and an almost imperceptible blush appeared on his cheeks. Suddenly Dio disappeared from the bed, leaving Jonathan confused. Jojo turned around to find Dio about to leave the room. The Passion emerged from between his fingers and reached for the blonde.

- Wait!- Jojo said with a sad face and a little flushed. Dio didn't move. - I can't sleep alone... Can you... Stay?- He asked, releasing the vampire.

Dio stayed in place for a few seconds. He sighed and got back into bed. Jojo made room for him and once the blonde got comfortable between the sheets, he leaned closer to Dio and, resting his head on the vampire's pectorals, said “Thank you.” It was the last word spoken that night.

Jonathan was able to sleep peacefully despite the storm.
