Word of Honor Character Guide

Summary:

An illustrated, non-spoilery guide to the many, many, many characters in the CDrama Word of Honor. For the confused, the faceblind, the casual watchers that don't want to study for the show like it's a test, and anyone else who feels that a character guide might improve their lives.

Notes:

Much thanks is due to the wikipedia page for this show, which has a comprehensive (but spoilery!) list of characters.

Much thanks is also due to lesbloggerables's character guide for Nirvana in Fire, which was so extremely helpful when I was first watching that show that I was bitterly disappointed when Word of Honor did not have any such thing. And had to make it myself.

Chapter 1: Protagonists

Chapter Text

So, you’ve started watching Word of Honor, and, if you’re like me, you’ve immediately lost track of which character is which, and how the characters are related to one another.

To aid you in watching the show, I offer you this character guide. Spoilers will be marked like this, and can be read by highlighting the text: this is a spoiler! (Though if you are very spoiler-averse, the mere fact of a character being in this guide may be a spoiler.)

The main character is named Zhou Zishu. When we meet him in Episode 1, he looks like this:

Zhou Zishu in black with his hair up

He is the founder and commander of the Window of Heaven, which is an organization of assassins, and he’s done some things that were... not very nice, in that capacity.

At one point in Episode 1, he disguises himself and uses the fake name Zhou Xu, which is very subtle of him.

Eventually he takes off the disguise and then he looks like this, which for the faceblind among us is extremely disorienting:

zhou zishu with his hair mostly down in soft blue robes

His love interest soulmate friend is named Wen Kexing. He is a mischievous sort of rich young man with a mysterious past who takes an unexpected interest in “Zhou Xu”. In Episode 10, we learn that he is the master of Ghost Valley. In Episode 20, we learn his original name, Zhen Yan, and that he is the son of Zhen Ruyu and Gu Miaomiao of Healer Valley.

Wen Kexing has a maidservant named Gu Xiang. A-Xiang is very good at being silly and taking care of Wen Kexing, and less good at staying out of trouble.

They soon meet a kid named Zhang Chengling. Chengling is the third son of a sect leader, and is very sweet and slightly a dumbass. More about his family and background in Chapter 5.

Cao Weining is a disciple of the Gentle Wind sect (see Chapter 6), and A-Xiang’s love interest (technically that’s a spoiler but in practice it’s brutally obvious from the moment Weining comes on screen in Episode 7). He is a romantic and an idealist.
