Summary
This isn't Dahlia's first meeting with Venti, or even his second, but it's arguably what Dahlia would call the death of his working relationship with Barbatos. Or when Barbatos became Venti to him. This might sound strange, but when one is a devoted follower of a guy one's entire life and then said guy starts talking to one, there's bound to be some internal conflict. It's the turning point of their relationship, he would say. Whatever he calls it, though, this is where it starts:

In which the IPC just can’t seem to convince Veritas Ratio to join the Intelligentsia Guild, so they deploy Aventurine to a tiny university city-state, where he must charm the good doctor into their fold.

Summary
In the end, perhaps Varka found himself in this predicament by underestimating Flins. He shouldn't have. It is far from the first time the Lightkeeper has flipped the script on him.
So Varka stares, bewildered, as the most beautiful man in the room gives invaluable insight to the meeting, while keeping his hand on him like it’s nothing.
Varka’s nails dig into his palm. He’s survived far more difficult situations than this one, hasn’t he?

What the Wanderer wants is to see her flourish: to thrive. He wants to take everything she does that makes him feel wanted and cradle it to his chest, take it and carry it around in his pocket. And if the time comes to part their ways, he will let her go, like releasing a little boat towards the ocean, with the hope that he has left her better off than she was never having met him.
