Chapter 1: IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Chapter Text

Hi guys! I saw very few fanfics in this particular fandom, so I decided to write my own! I will accept suggestions for a story, so here is a list of what I will/will not accept. If you suggest a story to me in the comments section that violates this list, I will do one of two things: a) attempt to respond to the comment apologizing that I cannot use this idea b) if it's not THAT far off the mark, or if its an awesome enough idea, modify it so that it can work within these parameters. Please note that I will be looking for suggestions in the comments section for THIS CHAPTER. So here is the list

Things I will not write under (almost) ANY CIRCUMSTANCES:

  1. Rape (not quite sure if the "we're both drunk and about to do it together" situation counts as rape, but we'll assume it's not)
  2. Child-parent Incest (this IS greek mythology-based fanfic, so other forms of incest are a given)
  3. Abuse
  4. Smut scenes (sorry)

Things that I AM willing to write:

  1. Angst
  2. Fluff
  3. Violence (to a certain extent)
  4. Other types of incest, sans sex (again, Greek mythology)

Chapter I'm currently working on: Injured (request by Shinya0213)

The Queue:

  1. Young Love AU (Ares/Athena)
  2. Honesty AU (Athena/Poseidon)
  3. Spoiling Athena (request from mutebychoice)

If two people happen to submit similar ideas, then I'll probably use elements from both and credit both people. One-shots with no contributors listed are ones that I came up with myself. Feedback is always welcome. I hope you enjoy it!

The Index/List of Finished Chapters:

  1. Pining (request from mutebychoice)

Chapter 2: Pining

Summary:

Poseidon's longing for Athena is as endless as the night sky, but dealing with it while he's exiled is going to be a problem...

Notes:

Request by mutebychoice. Sorry for taking so long to make this; I was a tad occupied with making a father's day gift. The next chapter will be their alternate request, Poseidon spoiling Athena. Also, fun fact, there's an actual myth about Hephaestus falling in love with Athena after Aphrodite leaves him for Ares (which I will be basing a future chapter on, btw).

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

1500 years ago

Poseidon stared out at the ocean from his palace window. Despite his best efforts, he was thinking about her... again. He'd only been gone from Olympus for two days. Still, he already wanted to hurry up and get back, not because of any urgent business, but because he couldn't stand to be away from her.

Not that he'd ever tell his servants such a thing. They were under the impression that Zeus kept him very, very busy. While this was true, half the time he rushed back to Olympus to take care of some "important business," he'd really be visiting Athena. Even that was a conservative estimate. In reality, it was closer to every time. And even when he wasn't at Olympus, he was damn near constantly thinking about how beautiful her snow-white hair looked in the sunset...or how adorable she was when she was angry...or how her eyes were bluer than the sea...or how undeniably good she looked the first time she tried on a dress...

Anyways, suffice to say that he cared about her. A lot. He would have stabbed himself if it made her smile, torn down all of Olympus to make her laugh, destroy this whole goddamned earth if it would have made her love him back...

Unfortunately, the desire to see her wasn't the only reason why he hated being away. There were also...other suitors. So while the semi-recent saying "no man sees Athena as a woman" was largely the truth, it most definitely had exceptions.

He remembered the first time a bouquet arrived at her doorstep, along with an unsigned love letter. He'd recognized the handwriting immediately. Hephaestus. Aphrodite had divorced him to pursue Ares, albeit unsuccessfully. Shortly afterward, Hephaestus had offered to teach Athena some metalworking, and for the next five months, Athena ended up having to cancel all of the time they used to spend together.

Let's just say, Poseidon was not happy, especially when Athena wrote a letter to him with the news that Hephaestus had asked her out. He immediately left for Olympus (more "urgent business") and just so happened to stop off at Athena's house. He was aghast to find that she had accepted and was happily preparing for the date, which consisted of a semi-casual dinner in the hills of Lemnos. It felt like he had just been hit by a chariot. After taking a spear to the face. And the balls.

He then sent a letter to Neptune saying that the urgent business (visit to Athena) had revealed a new complication (Hephaestus asking Athena out) and he would be staying with a friend for a few days while he attended to it. He spent the rest of the day raging in his palace room, then cried himself to sleep.

Thankfully, the date was a one-time thing, Athena completed her metalworking course in record time, and things went back to normal. Well, almost. She had been acting a tad strange lately; acting particularly flustered when he complimented her, immediately rejecting any and all suitors, conveniently coming up with excuses to hang out; he had even seen her blushing a few times. Could it be possible that she has... a crush? Poseidon's musings were interrupted by a very harried Neptune.

"Milord, a revolt has broken out in the Aegean Sea!". Poseidon sighed. Time to get back to work.

After Poseidon's death (whenever that was)

Poseidon really, really hated the Underworld. There was absolutely nothing interesting to do, leaving his mind free to wander. Unfortunately, his mind always, without fail, wandered towards thoughts of Athena.

The happy memories came first. Athena shapeshifting for the first time, smiling and laughing in glee. Athena, just before her adulthood ceremony, nervous but determined to go through with it. Athena on one of their hangouts, smiling as a hummingbird landed on her finger.

Though these were well-cherished and beloved memories, they signaled his last chance to distract himself with something, anything, else before the...less pleasant memories began to show. Aaaaand too late. They were here. The look of betrayal in her eyes as he told her the lie that he had only used her. The look of complete disgust and anger she leveled at him as she brought him back to Olympus in chains. Her tears as he was stabbed to death by Ares.

These memories haunted him endlessly. They popped up randomly in his dreams, casting a shadow on the most peaceful of moments. He'd be even more of a liar if he said that he didn't feel the slightest bit guilty about what he did to her. What is wrong with me? How could I have been so cruel to the woman I love? Who loved me back? What kind of a monster am I?

His longing for her was now intermixed with the all-encompassing guilt and shame that accompanied his choices. Maybe if I had told her the truth, maybe if I had enlisted her help... Poseidon stopped himself from going down that road. There was no point in wondering about the maybes and pondering the what-ifs. That could only lead to insanity. Poseidon sighed. This was going to be a long ten thousand years...

2019 (just after Athena arrived)

Damn that girl, Poseidon thought irritatedly. After thousands of years, he was finally on the verge of forgetting about her entirely. He had finally, once and for all, killed his love for her. Never again would he contemplate what type of wedding dress Athena would be most likely to pick (if she would even choose a dress), or name their future children. His days of dreaming about her every night were over. And then that little s*** had to ruin it.

At least, that was what he told himself. In reality, he was nowhere near over her. He had to constantly focus on not letting his dreams of her leak into his reincarnations. Focusing on the fact that Ares had likely swooped in and claimed her for himself by now usually worked, depressing as it was. While Zeus may not like Athena (to his current knowledge, at least), he probably wouldn't hesitate to secure her loyalty with an arranged marriage.

But if Athena's involved with Ares, what the devil is she doing here?

Present, middle of 2019 school year

It's official. Having Athena here is pure torture. Poseidon both loved and hated her presence. He lived for the hours when he (or his reincarnation, anyways) could see her, talk to her, laugh at her antics. He savored every moment with pure joy, happy memories to cherish and hold close when things were especially terrible. At the same time, it was tantalizing to have her sit right next to his clueless reincarnation and not be able to talk to her himself. He couldn't tell her how he felt. He couldn't hug her if she cried, or stand there and take it if she screamed and punched him (which he definitely deserved, by the way), or both. After so many years, he was so close to the girl, no, woman, he loved, but couldn't do anything about it. F*** Athena's revenge, she was doing her worst just by showing up.

He wanted to hug her for coming back. He wanted to angrily lecture her for even daring to risk her life to see him. He wanted to yell at her for not doing it sooner. He didn't know what he wanted to do anymore.

At the same time, he still loved her for her daring, for her moxy, for her cheekiness. The sad fact of the matter was that no matter what pain she inflicted, he would still love her. He would still want her, despite his many, many words to the contrary. So here he was. Still pining.

Notes:

And, a few Atheneidon (ath-en-EYE-den) incorrect quotes to brighten your day:

Poseidon, tending to Athena's wounds: How would you rate your pain?
Athena: Zero stars. Would NOT recommend.

Poseidon: WHAT’S YOUR TYPE
Athena: Anything, honestly, but nerds especially
Poseidon, desperately, as Athena bleeds out: YOUR BLOOD TYPE
Athena: Oh! B positive.
Poseidon: DON'T TRY TO CHEER ME UP JUST TELL ME YOUR BLOOD TYPE
Athena:

Poseidon: Okay, truth or dare?
Athena: Truth
Poseidon: How many hours have you slept this week?
Athena:
Athena: ...Dare
Poseidon: Go to bed.
Athena: I don’t like this game.

Poseidon: I want to wake up with you every day for the rest of our lives
Athena: I wake up at 4:30 AM
Poseidon:
Poseidon: I want to see you at some point every day for the rest of our lives

Chapter 3: IMPORTANT HALLOWEEN, THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, AND NEW YEARS SPECIALS INFORMATION ENCLOSED PLEASE READ

Summary:

PLEASE READ THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!

Notes:

Athena: We need to distract these guys
Poseidon: Leave it to me
Poseidon: Centaurs have six limbs and are therefore insects. Discuss.
Ares, Zeus, and Hades: *Immediately begin arguing*
Hera, watching in horror: Oh this. I don’t like this. I don't like this at all.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Hi guys! I know I haven't updated in a while, and I am truly sorry (writer's block is a b*tch), but I have some announcements to make! Don't panic, I'm not discontinuing the work. I just have some notices about updates that I want you guys to be aware of.

FRIDAY FOUR-IN-ONE: I will be doing a four-in-one update this Friday! It will have Injuries, Spoiling Athena, Young Love, and a belated Halloween special (featuring your favorite characters trick-or-treating!)! After this, I will continue to update every Friday as usual (with the exception of specials). The Halloween Special will feature a pranky Atropos, His Badassery Child Ares, Athena, Adrian, Nike, and Iolo (Apollo and Sibyl will tag along too, just to make sure that no one gets in trouble).

UPCOMING THANKSGIVING SPECIAL: I will also be doing a Thanksgiving special, once again featuring human versions of the Olympians, and this time, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is coming, including Adrian! Tag along through the stress, awkwardness, nerdy jokes, and hilariousness of the holiday, all while watching Adrian desperately try (and fail miserably) to not embarrass himself.

Of course, if there are any OC's you would like me to add, or if you want to be added as some obscure god/goddess/assistant, then let me know in the form!

Unfortunately, since my family might just skin me alive if I try writing fanfic on Thanksgiving (and I want everyone else to have time to enjoy theirs) the chapter will be published on the 29th, not the 25th. On the bright side, you guys now have even more time to send in OC requests! I WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING OC REQUESTS THAT WERE SENT AFTER THE 23rd. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Additionally, I want to add in a flashback to Athena's first Thanksgiving (again in the AU where everyone is actually human), featuring a shy Athena and a very sneaky (not to mention hungry) Ares!

Voting on the following issues close on the 19th (mostly so I have time to write):

1. Will Zeus get kicked out by Hera and Hades

2. How will Athena figure out she wants to be a warrior goddess (you can choose the options!)?

3. When will Childhood Ares put his orating skills to use and rip Hephaestus a new one for being an arse?

CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: Okay, okay, I know, Christmas isn't until December 25 (at least, under the Gregorian Calendar, it's January 7 in the Julian Calendar), but seeing as my ability to actually write anything is going to be, at best, greatly decreased (because gift-making), the dates are sooner than you might expect.

Of course, there will be Human AU's of everyone celebrating Christmas and getting each other gifts, along with a flashback to Athena's first Christmas. However, there are significantly more things to vote for!

In the modern day section:

1. Will Zeus be invited? (I mean, probably not, but still)

2. What Christmas pranks are Atropos going to play now?

3. Will the fam withstand Eris' natural capacity for chaos?

4. How on earth did Eris get in anyways?!

5. What would Ares' favorite carol be?

6. Wait, what carols do a Greek, dysfunctional family of ridiculously stubborn argumentative people sing anyways?!

7. Who are the best singers?

8. Just how much wine did Dionysus put in the punch anyways?

In the flashback section:

1. What are Ares' and Athena's favorite Christmas treats?

2. Who made that delicious cake?

3. Who ate it?

4. Will Ares snag a kiss under the mistletoe, or will he be disgusted by the very concept and opt for just hanging out with Athena?

5. Will Aphrodite manage to get one?

6. Who made what zany Christmas decoration?

7. What kind of Christmas pranks are Atropos planning?

NEW YEAR'S SPECIAL: Honestly, I don't even really have anything planned yet for the New Year's special, just that for the flashback, Athena (still scared of overly loud noises) is going to freak out and need some comforting. Feel free to add whatever suggestions you guys so please, you have until December 15.

Notes:

Incorrect quotes time! Here's a brief preview of some of the ones that will be incorporated into the specials:
Halloween special:
Athena: I’ve come to a point in my life where I need a stronger word than fuck
~~~~~~~
Ares: What doesn't kill me should run, because now I'm fucking pissed.
~~~~~~~
Athena: .. .----. -- / ... --- .-. .-. -.-- [translation: I’M SORRY]
Poseidon: What's that?
Athena: Remorse code.
Poseidon: I'm even angrier now.
~~~~~~~
Store Worker: Would a Mx. Poseidon please come to the front desk?
Poseidon, arriving at the desk: Hello, is there a problem?
Store Worker: points to Athena and Ares
Store Worker: I believe they belong to you?
Child Athena and Ares, simultaneously: We got lost :(
Poseidon: I didn’t even bring you guys here with me-
Thanksgiving Special:
Ares: Okay okay stop asking me if I'm straight, gay, bi, whatever. I identify as a FUCKING THREAT.
~~~~~~~
Ares: I was arrested for being too cool.
Athena: The charges were dropped due to a lack of supporting evidence.
~~~~~~~
Ares: *Kicks the door down looking panicked*
Athena: What did you do?
Ares: Nobody died.
Athena: WHAT KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT?!
~~~~~~~
Zeus: Look. I may not be a saint, but it's not like I’ve killed anybody. I’m not an arsonist. I’ve never found a wallet outside of an IHOP and thought about returning it but saw the owner lived out of state so just took the cash and dropped the wallet back on the ground.
Poseidon: Okay, that's really specific, and that makes me think that you definitely did do that.
~~~~~~~
Ares: So, what, now I’m just supposed to do anything that Athena does? I mean, what if they jumped off a cliff?
Hades: If Athena were to jump off a cliff, she would’ve done her due diligence regarding the height of the cliff, the depth of the water, and the angle of entry, so yes. If you see Athena jump off a cliff, by all means, jump off a cliff.
Ares: You jump off a cliff!
Hades: Gladly. Provided Athena did first.
~~~~~~~
Ares, holding a python: Guys I impulsively bought a snake, what do I name him
Hera: You did WHAT–
Poseidon: William Snakespeare

Christmas Special:

Ares: In light of what you did for me, you can hug me for four to five seconds.
Aphrodite: FORTY FIVE SECONDS?!?
Ares: No! Four to five seconds!
Aphrodite: Too late!!!
~~~~~~~
Ares: So are we flirting right now?
Athena: I AM LITERALLY STABBING YOU
Ares: That doesn’t answer my question
~~~~~~~
Ares: Is letting someone win at chess sapiosexual bottoming
Hades: Does anyone in this godforsaken group ever think before they speak
~~~~~~~
Ares: You're right.
Poseidon: That's... That's an unusual phrase for you. Did you just learn it?
~~~~~~~
Athena: You often use humor to deflect trauma
Poseidon: Thank you
Athena: I didn't say that was a good thing
Poseidon: What I'm hearing is, you think I'm funny
~~~~~~~
Poseidon: I know you snuck out last night, Athena.
Child Ares, whispering: Play dumb!
Child Athena: Who's Athena?
Child Ares: NOT THAT DUMB!!!
~~~~~~~
Poseidon, driving Athena and Ares: So how was your day?
Child Athena: We almost got surprise adopted!
Poseidon: What?
Child Ares: We almost got kidnapped.
Poseidon: Oh, okay.
Poseidon: *slams on the breaks* WAIT WHAT?!
~~~~~~~
Nike: Would you stab your best friend in the leg for 10 million gold?
Child Ares: You stab me, and then when my leg gets better, we buy a big-ass house.
Child Athena: You can stab me too, then we'll have 20 million.
Child Ares: Good thinking.
