Chapter 1: Moms and Dads

Chapter Text

Eijirou’s rut was late.

That isn’t cause for immediate alarm, but it was odd. He was always the regular one much to his boyfriend’s annoyance. Katsuki could have his entire life planned out and organized but could never control when his rut was coming which pissed him off. Ever since they’d begun dating, Katsuki admitted his ruts became a little bit more regular but not by much. He would either come before Eijirou or after but even then there were months where he wouldn’t get one at all.

“Did you get your rut already?” Eijirou asked, looking at the calendar in their shared office space. Katsuki glanced up from his laptop.

“I think you’d remember if I did,” he replied, almost with a smirk and Eijirou rolled his eyes.

“I’m late,” he said, pointing to today. “I should have gotten symptoms by now.”

“Have you given it a day?”

“No, but you know I’m not one to be late.”

“First time for everything.”

“Maybe,” Eijirou muttered looking over the calendar. “You think it could be something else?”

“Not sure what,” Katsuki admitted with a shrug. “You take something?”

“Not anything out of the usual.”

“Maybe it’s a late reaction to your vitamins or something,” Katsuki told him and Eijirou frowned, reaching a hand up to cover his scent gland. “Hey, Ei,” Katsuki called and Eijirou glanced at him. “It’s fine. It’s just a rut. If it bothers you, go see a doctor about it.”

“Yeah,” he bemused, rubbing at his neck. “Maybe you are right. I haven’t given it a day yet. If it doesn’t come this week maybe I’ll just see what’s up.”

“Everyone has abnormal moments, Ei. Even perfect alpha’s like you.”

“Awe, you’re sweet,” Eijirou cooed, leaning down to place a kiss on his lips.

So Eijirou decided to wait. Eijirou gave it a total of three days before his paranoia got the best of him and he went to see a doctor. Katsuki assured him it was fine but Eijirou just never was late before, like, ever. And to suddenly be with no explanation caused alarm for him.

“-maybe a little too much protein, but other than that you are completely fine,” the doctor said looking over the reports he held. Eijirou frowned at his words.

“I-I don’t want to sound pushy, but are you sure? It is, like, really abnormal for me to miss a rut like this.”

“Age does a lot of things to the body, including skipping ruts. Were you involved in any stressful situation recently?” The doctor inquired and Eijirou shook his head.

“Not anything out of the ordinary,” Eijirou admitted and the doctor shrugged.

“These things do just happen. It’s okay and perfectly normal. Come next month, if this is still a problem we can look into inducing the rut.”

“Okay, thanks, Doctor,” Eijirou said with a bow before leaving. Katsuki was waiting outside for him and stood up when he saw Eijirou appear in the waiting room.

“So, what’s up?”

“Nothing. I mean, high protein but that’s it. Nothing else.”

“See? Told you it was nothing,” Katsuki said, placing an arm around his shoulder but Eijirou didn’t feel comforted by it.

“I don’t know, I just-feel like it’s something.”

“It’s your first time missing a rut, it can be scary but trust me, it’s fine. Take it from me, Ei, you should be happy you’re missing it.”

“You saying you don’t want to have sex with me?” Eijirou teased.

“No.” Katsuki looked ready to backpedal.

“Because that’s what it sounds like,” Eijirou taunted.

Katsuki pinched his nose and Eijirou laughed for the first time that day.

Another week went by with no real symptoms coming up and Eijirou tried his best not to let it bother him. It weighed on his mind most days, but throwing himself into hero work helped for the most part. That was until today.

“I told you that fish was bad,” Katsuki said from the bathroom door as Eijirou sat hunched over the toilet vomiting out his guts. He groaned loudly as another wave of nausea washed over him.

“Fuck,” Eijirou spat into the toilet, blindly reaching for the toilet paper.

“I called off work already for you,” Katsuki told him and Eijirou wiped off his mouth and tossed the used toilet paper into the toilet before leaning back against the wall.

“My hero,” he teased weakly and Katsuki rolled his eyes.

“You’re lucky I have off or else you’d be fucked.”

“I’d just live here all day,” Eijirou said shakily, rising to his feet and going over to the sink to brush his teeth.

“Exactly, lucky to have me here to keep you company.” Katsuki nudged him with his hip and Eijioru smiled around the toothbrush in his mouth.

“Y’r sw’t,” he said around the toothbrush and Katsuki rolled his eyes and left him to finish up. When done, Eijirou found Katsuki in the kitchen putting away dishes from a box and went over to help.

The two moved into their new home just shy of two weeks ago and were still unpacking everything. Neither took time off to unpack, only taking off the day of the move to assist the movers in their job. They prioritized the bedroom, knowing a rut was coming soon even though now it seemed silly. Katsuki however, was using his free time to unpack his, yes his, kitchen.

“Where do you want the pans?” Eijirou asked, looking into the box of pans he opened.

“Leave them there and do this box instead. Stack the Tupperware in this bottom shelf, like I started already,” Katsuki instructed and Eijirou nodded as they switched places.

They worked in silence which neither minded until lunch was due and Katsuki whipped up a quick meal for them both and they sat on the floor, their new couch not yet built, and watched tv as they ate.

“Could have taken that asshole down in five seconds,” Katsuki muttered watching as hero Deku apprehended a villain but sported a mean black eye. “Would have looked better too.”

Although their relationship has improved by a landslide, Eijirou found Katsuki’s and Midoriya’s relationship to still be bizarre if not humorous at times. Katsuki would always rag on Midoriya, always encouraging him to do better and to be better which Eijirou found endearing of his partner. Being an Omega, Midoriya had to work twice as hard as they did and given he was already in the top five heroes, he was doing a damn good job.

“Ease up babe, he did good!” Eijirou argued and Katsuki just scoffed.

“Well he ought to do better,” he grumbled.

They all were working hard to clear rankings. During busy weeks Eijirou barely saw Katsuki. He knew his pride-obsessed boyfriend meant well and had big dreams but Eijirou did worry he would burn out one day. But that day hasn’t come yet.

He liked Katsuki’s spark though. One of the many things he liked about his boyfriend. But that was a long list and Eijirou didn’t have nearly enough time in the day to go down it.

Three weeks in, Eijirou wasn’t letting his morning illness or missing rut get the best of him but dammnit was it not trying. What he thought was food poisoning quickly passed into a regular morning-like-sickness so he got by on simple skipping breakfast and eating a bigger lunch which worked out.

He kept at it at work, kicking ass and making a name for himself but noticed that as of late his nose was becoming more sensitive. Hopeful, he thought it had to do with his rut and was perky at the thought of his late rut coming but as the days passed and no rut came Eijirou deflated.

“I just don’t get it, it’s so weird,” Eijirou sighed, slouching against the couch. “My nose is sensitive. That’s usually a sign, right?” Eijirou asked his mate, who shrugged.

“Maybe it’s a phantom thing. Like your body thinks you should be in a rut so it’s making up for it.”

“You think that’s a thing?” Katsuki shrugged again, bringing over a cup of tea for his boyfriend.

“I’m sure whatever it is, it’s fine. You’ve already been to a doctor. And next month you can go again just to be sure.”

“Your rut is late too. Maybe you should come with me,” Eijirou suggested and Katsuki just shrugged.

“That’s not abnormal for me though. But I can go if you want. If it will make you feel better.”

“I just want us to be okay,” Eijirou mumbled and Katsuki leaned down to kiss the bite mark on Eijirou’s neck.

“We are okay, Ei. A missed rut isn’t going to kill us. Chances are we'll just have a heavier one next month. Which might be the death of us.” Eijirou laughed, stealing a kiss from Katsuki before he pulled away.

“Yeah maybe. Thanks, for the tea,” he said, finally taking a sip of it.

Rut or no rut, there wasn’t a thing alive or dead that could stop Eijirou from going to the gym. Given his physical body helped his quirk and was displayed by his heroic attire, physical appearance was a must for this hero.

Eijirou groaned loudly, rubbing at his pecs.

“Katsuki,” he whined and his boyfriend rolled his eyes. “Katsuki!!!”

“I told you to skip it today.”

“I can’t skip a day, Katsuki. Never skip chest day. That’s my most prominent feature. It makes the girls go crazy.” A light slap to the back of the head made Eijirou laugh.

“Idiot.”

“Really hurts though,” Eijirou muttered looking down at his chest. “My abdomen too. I didn’t think I went that hard but maybe I did.”

“You always go overboard,” Katsuki told him, pulling out his laptop and starting to work.

“Whatcha working on?” Eijirou asked, still rubbing at his sore chest.

“Work.”

“Boring. We should watch a movie. You should rub my sore muscles. Babe,” Eijirou called but Katsuki didn’t look up. “Babe,” Katsuki grunted. “Baby.”

“What?” Katsuki rolled his eyes and finally looked at him.

Kirishima flexed to show off his muscles, much to his own misfortune and Katsuki snorted.

“I hope that hurt.”

“It did.”

Apparently what sets Katsuki off isn’t Eijirou’s missing rut, morning vomiting, or even his sore muscles. No, what sets him off is his, not unusual, food combinations.

“What if,” Eijirou muttered around a mouthful of rice. “What if we did this.” He grabbed the lettuce leaf and compiled one of all the foods before him in one massive wrap and stuffed it into his mouth. Eijirou let out a loud groan as he chewed and Katsuki kicked him from under the table.

“That’s disgusting,” he stated but Eijirou just shrugged.

“I think it’s pretty good.”

“Pickled cucumber, steak, rice, and lettuce? Yeah, no thank you.”

“It’s the pickled cucumber that really brings it all together. Are we out of soy sauce?”

“You are not adding soy sauce to this.”

Eijirou was already on his feet, however, looking through cabinets until he found what he was after. He went back over to the table and added a little bit of soy sauce before taking another bite and smiling happily.

“You are repulsive. What is with you as of late?”

“I’ve always been adventurous with food.”

“Never like this. You don’t get like this until after your rut.”

“Maybe it’s my body making up for it again. That’s what you said last time.”

“Yeah but this is weird. And you are still getting sick in the morning. I think you should go back to the doctor. Maybe you caught something like a parasite.”

“You think? I don’t know how. You always take care of the food I eat. And wouldn’t you have it too?”

“Maybe it’s something you ate at the convenience store. I know you still eat there on Tuesdays.”

Caught red-handed, Eijirou averted his gaze.

“I’ll go with. We can both get checked out.”

“Alright.”

So together they went on Monday after work. Eijirou went in first, Katsuki waiting outside for him to be done. Eijirou explained the situation, the missing rut, morning vomiting, sensitive nose, even the sore muscles, and weird, although not to him, food he’s been eating.

“What concerns me is the rut. I’m never late. Like, never. And it's been going on nearly two months without one so I think something is wrong.”

The nursed stared at him blankly for a long moment before she glanced down at his sheet again and stared with pursed lips.

“And...you are an alpha?”

“Yeah.”

“And your partner is also an alpha?”

“Yeah.”

“...When have these symptoms started?”

“Nearly two months ago. This is my second month now where I missed my rut. I’m getting really worried. This isn’t like me.”

“Right. Right. Um. Excuse me for a moment.” The nurse left the room leaving Kirishima behind with a frown and he waited a long minute before the nurse appeared with something in hand.

“Feel free to use the bathroom in the room. I can wait outside if you’d like,” she said and Kirishima took the little box she offered and stared down at it.

A pregnancy test.

He scoffed, looking back up at her.

“I’m an alpha, I can’t get pregnant. My boyfriend is an alpha too.”

“Alpha pregnancies are rare, yes, even rarer with two male alphas but not impossible. The symptoms you described are that of a pregnant person.”

“I’m pregnant,” Eijirou repeated and the nurse gestured to the test.

“Potentially. If you’d take the test we could find out.”

Eijirou immediately got up and rushed into the bathroom and shut the door. He glanced at the mirror on the wall and shook his head. No way he was pregnant. An alpha male getting pregnant? Unheard of. No one told him this in sex-ed!

Hesitantly he pulled down his pants and opened the box, willing himself to pee on the appropriate end before he situated himself and washed his hands. He exited the room holding the stick and the nurse was still inside watching.

“Can I...get my partner?” He asked nervously and the nurse nodded.

“Of course. Would you like me to?”

“Yeah.” Eijirou sat back down on the bed and the nurse exited to retrieve Katsuki. He entered quickly, looking over Eijirou who was staring down at the still blank pregnancy test.

“Ei? What’s wrong? What is that?” He came over to comfort his mate and Eijirou leaned into the offered support.

“It’s a pregnancy test. She-She thinks I’m pregnant.”

“Male alphas don’t get pregnant,” Katsuki stated but the nurse entered to interject.

“They can, it is just very, very uncommon.”

“So he’s pregnant?”

“We will know in a moment, may I?” She offered out a gloved hand and Eijirou handed over the test she took. They all sat in very uncomfortable silence until the nurse raised the test slightly closer to her face and then nodded. “Yes, it looks like you are pregnant.”

Eijirou felt his heart drop to his stomach. He looked up at Katsuki who didn’t look much better.

“Would you like to hear your options?”

“Is there more than just getting rid of it or keeping it?” Katsuki wondered and the nurse tossed out the test and her gloves and began washing her hands.

“Those are your main two options, yes, but there are different ways to go about both options.”

“Ei,” Katsuki said but Eijirou was too focused on his sudden very queasy stomach. Something was there. Inside him. Growing. Living. Breathing? How big was it? Did it even have a heartbeat yet?

“I’ll give you two some time,” the nurse said with a slight bow before leaving the room. Katsuki came around and removed the hands Eijirou wasn’t aware were already resting over his stomach. He held onto them, searching Eijirou’s face.

“Ei, you got to talk to me here,” he begged. “What do you want to do?”

“What do you mean what do I want to do? What do you want to do!”

“Ei, I’m not carrying this kid you are.”

“Oh my god,” Eijirou cried, feeling tears spring up into his eyes. “I’m pregnant. Katsuki-I-Kat-”

“Hey,” Katsuki cooed, pulling Eijirou into a tight hug that only made his tears start to stream down his face. “It’s okay, Eijirou. It’s not the end of the world, alright? It’s just-It’s just a baby, okay? We don’t have to keep it. You know that, right? I won’t be upset. It’s okay.”

“But what if-What if we do? Then what?”

“I-I don’t know but we can figure it out.”

“What...what do we do?” Eijirou asked and Katsuki exhaled.

“I...I’m not sure but we can figure it out, Ei. We...we have time, yeah?”

Not a lot. Eijirou wanted to say but kept his mouth shut.

The nurse returned and Katsuki took over for Eijirou, their hands still tied together.

“How much...time do we have...to consider the options?” He asked.

“As long as you need. We are understanding of your situation and should you choose to keep or not keep the baby. We can help you either way.”

“Is there...a risk? To keeping them?” Them. Eijirou swallowed.

“There are a number of risks with each pregnancy but regular testing should help keep many of them from becoming a problem.”

“Are there any concerns we should look at right now?”

“As of right now no. There are still chances that this baby may not even survive.” If Eijirou felt his heart sink before it must have fully dropped now.

“What do you mean?” He asked and the nurse offered a sympathetic smile.

“Miscarriages happen, more commonly in alphas. The first three to four months are often the ‘trial’ months. But, even then it isn’t promised.”

“My mom had difficulties getting pregnant,” Katsuki told Eijirou. “She’s an alpha,” Katsuki explained to the nurse.

“But she had you,” Eijirou says.

“Yeah, and only me. I’m just saying this might...this could be our only chance.”

“No fucking pressure, Katsuki,” Eijirou grumbled.

“I’ll collect some pamphlets for you regarding the services we offer here. After that you are free to go,” the nurse told them before leaving.

They waited for her to return with a hefty stack before departing. Eijirou looked over the pamphlets while Katsuki drove him, his free hand resting over his stomach.

There were a lot of choices, more than he thought. Even regarding an abortion, there were options on what to do after. Groups to help deal with the choices he’d make, classes on parenting, adoptions, orphanages, medical concerns.

He looked out the window feeling dizzy.

Returning home, Katsuki waited on him. He helped him out of his shoes and up the stairs to their bedroom where the two sat down on the bed, both looking down at the packets.

Neither spoke a word.

Eijirou wished Katsuki would almost just take over for him. Tell him what to do and he’d do it because right now he felt so lost. He knew Katsuki was feeling the same way.

He leaned his head down on Katsuki’s shoulder and Katsuki returned the gesture.

“Talk to me, Ei,” he muttered and Eijirou shut his eyes and exhaled.

“I don’t know what to say.”

“Just tell me what you are thinking.”

“...I just want you to tell me what to do. I don’t want to make any choices.” Katsuki sighed, bringing a hand up to play with Eijirou’s hair.

“This isn’t about me.”

“But it is. I know I’m carrying...them...but, you have a say too.”

“I never thought…” he trailed off and Eijirou was the same way. Never thought this would happen. Never gave it the time of day. Now, this miracle, if you can call it that, was placed upon them and they didn’t even know if they wanted it.

“What if we do keep them? But, something goes wrong?”

“We can look into adoption. There are choices for us...if this one goes wrong.”

“Would it be the same?”

“I don’t know.”

“What if we just...waited it out,” Eijirou mumbled and Katsuki continued fiddling with his hair. “Like...she said it could not even happen. What if we gave it a few months...see what happens...I could...take a leave from work or something. Or work on some low-risk situation. My publicity scores could use some work.”

Katsuki let out a huff of a laugh.

“Yeah, we could do that. Is that what you want to do?”

“What do you want?”

“...I don’t know. I just want you to be happy. I’m okay, no matter what you pick. I’m here for you.”

“Maybe...Maybe if we don’t want them, we can give them to someone who does,” Eijirou suggested, rubbing at his belly. “Could you imagine? Our kid out in the world?”

“No, if I’m honest. And truth be told, I’d be terrified of the idea.” Katsuki laughed. “What if they turn out to be like me? No one is going to put up with that.”

“I would,” Eijirou said and Katsuki kissed the top of his head.

“Yeah, you would,” he said into his hair.

So Eijirou took 2 months off of work. He explained the situation to his manager who was thrilled for him and Eijirou didn’t have the heart to tell her he didn’t know what he felt yet.

“Take all the time you need, Riot! I’ll be working my magic and you work yours! Don’t stress over a thing! I’ll keep everyone in check here. This place will be here when you are ready to return.”

Eijirou was grateful for his manager but also spending time at home felt weird. Katsuki said he’d continue to work if Eijirou allowed it and of course he would. Just because Eijirou was pregnant didn’t mean Katsuki had to be his babysitter.

Eijirou went to the doctor's office again to say that for now, they were keeping the baby. The nurse offered a friendly smile and suggested getting him a midwife. So, he did.

Kurosaki Hanabi was a stout yet somehow still petite woman with bright blue hair, sky blue skin, and red eyes. She was about as tall as Eijirous hips and just as wide and her handshake was firm as hell.

“Pleasure to meet you, Kirishima. Is this your first pregnancy?” She seemed chipper which helped ease Eijirou’s mood.

“Yeah.”

“Excellent. And what trimester are you in?”

Eijirou gave her a blank look.

“You’re-how far along are you?” She clarified.

“Oh! The doctor said I am seven weeks in.”

“Okay, so you are still in the first of three trimesters. Wonderful. Rest assured everything will be okay! I know it can be quite overwhelming at first but you must always keep in mind stress is bad for the baby. Leave everything to me. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. I’m here for you every step of the way!”

“Okay,” Eijirou muttered, rubbing at the back of his neck.

“So what vitamins and supplements are you on?”

Eijirou let out a breath before listing them all. She dutifully wrote them all down and nodded to herself.

“Supplements and vitamins are very important for Baby. Especially in these early stages. We want Baby to be as strong as possible so it can fight on through the trial months.”

“What...exactly are the odds they’ll survive these trial months?” Eijirou asked and the midwife exhaled.

“It ranges. It’s called months for a reason. There is no set time or date for these things. The best we can do is hope for Baby’s health and focus on the positive side of things. A positive mindset is key to a healthy and happy baby.”

“Okay.”

“Now, do you know your parents' previous medical histories regarding pregnancies?”

“Uh, no. I was uh, a sperm sober baby. My mom had me but she never mentioned any complications?”

“Would you like to call your mother-“

“No,” Eijirou said quickly before he backpedaled. “I mean-I just…”

"It’s quite alright Kirishima. Many choose to hold off on telling their parents until later on.”

“I just...it’s all still...very new.”

“Of course. And what about Baby’s other parent?”

“Katsuki said his mother had difficulty with him. She is an alpha too.”

“And your mother is?”

“An omega.”

“Do you know anything about your sperm donor?”

“No. Katsukis dad is an omega though.”

“Alright. Okay.” Hanabi wrote down some things before nodding to herself. “Now will you be continuing heroic work while pregnant?”

“I gave myself two months off but, if need be, I’ll take more.”

“Two months is a good trial run. You’ll be just entering your fourth month by then and by the end of that we should have a pretty good idea where Baby is by that point.”

“Is there anything I should avoid doing?”

“The obvious things of course. Alcohol, smoking, caffeine, heavy lifting even this early is advised.”

“So no gym?”

“Exercise is encouraged. But take it slow. Light lifting, walking, or jogging is fine. Swimming is even okay. Low impact activities are best. Of course, there will be a point where we recommend you stop, but for these first few months you’ll be fine.”

“What about food? I know about raw things and fish?”

“I have a comprehensive list I will send to you over email.”

“Okay, yeah, Katsuki will need it. He’s already so strict with what I eat, heh.”

As if on cue the door to the apartment opened and Eijirou looked up.

“I’m back, Ei.”

“Katsuki, come here, the midwife is here.” Eijirou stood up and met Katsuki halfway, bringing him over to the couch. “Katsuki, this is Kurosaki Hanabi.”

“Bakugou Katsuki, thank you for watching over Eijirou,” Katsuki said with a bow, and Kurosaki smiled.

“I’m always happy to help, Bakugou. Now you two are mated?”

“Yes. But we aren’t married,” Eijirou clarified, knowing the two often went hand in hand.

“And excuse me for asking, but Bakugou do you wish to be involved in matters regarding Baby?”

“Yeah. Yes. Of course! Whatever you need. Whatever he needs.” Katsuki said, taking Eijirou’s hand.

“Wonderful. That’s great! Kirishima was just telling me you are the cook of the house?”

“He’d eat nothing but protein powder if it wasn’t for me.”

“Well, we certainly can’t be having that! I mentioned it to Kirishima already but I will be emailing advised foods as well as foods to avoid. But with you here I wanted to ask about your mother. Kirishima tells me she had difficulty with her pregnancy.”

“I’m her only kid. She was trying for years before to have me. Said she had a lot of miscarriages.”

“Do you know any details regarding them?”

“No. Never bothered to ask. Is it important?”

“All information regarding both of your parents' pregnancies is important. It’ll help set a foundation for your own in terms of things to expect. Medically repeating patterns or illnesses and things like that. Kirishima mentioned you two have not yet discussed it with your parents yet but when you do I would ask about it.”

“I can call her Ei,” Katsuki said and Eijirou fidgeted.

“I just- what if it doesn’t happen? I don’t want them getting their hopes up.”

“But if it could help with the baby shouldn’t they know? Especially my mom. I mean, she’s the closest we got to go off of here.”

“Do you know if you were a premature baby? Either of you? Any medical problems with the pregnancy at all?” The midwife asked.

“I was early, yeah,” Katsuki said and Eijirou shook his head.

“I wasn’t. My mom said I was a perfect baby.”

“My mom said I wasn’t. But she said I delivered fast.”

“Any pre-eclampsia?”

They both shook their heads.

“And you two were fine as babies? No issues?”

“Mom said I ate a lot. But that was all,” Eijirou answered

“I was fine,” Katsuki said.

“Good, good. So potentially premature but that’s common on alpha pregnancies.”

“Will the baby be okay? If it’s born early,” Eijioru asked.

“It’s more common than you’d think. Hospitals nowadays are built to handle it and doctors know what they are doing. Worst is that Baby needs to spend more time in the hospital, that's all.”

“Okay,” Eijirou nodded.

“But if you two don’t have any questions I believe I will take my leave.”

“Is-“ Katsuki began and stopped himself. Eijirou squeezed his hand to encourage him and Katsuki sighed. “What’s the real chance of this all working out?”

“As I discussed with Kirishima, these things are tricky to nail down. There is a reason we call it a trial period. There is no set date when everything will be okay. You could be 8 months in and have a complication. Babies are delicate and fickle at times. This is why I recommend taking it easy. Take it day by day, and be optimistic above all else. Babies can tell when you are stressed out or unhappy. It’s best to just do whatever you can now. And should something go wrong, know that it isn’t ever your fault.”

Katsuki nodded and Eijirou got up to hold the door for Kurosaki before they said goodbyes and she left. He returned to his boyfriend on the couch and resumed his position taking his hands. Katsuki exhaled and rested his head in Eijirou’s lap.

“Long day?” Eijirou asked and Katsuki just grunted.

“It was fine. What about you? Are you okay?” He asked and Eijirou nodded.

“I feel fine. Bored, but okay.”

“You should pick up a hobby.”

“She said I can go to the gym.”

“She probably also said not to overdo it. I have your personal trainer's information. I will use it.”

Eijirou rolled his eyes.

___

The first month was a learning experience. The first trimester, Eijirou learned, is 12 weeks long. During that first trimester, the baby will be developing many vital organs and the overall body. Now on week eight, their little baby was creating brain waves and was the size of a raspberry.

“A raspberry, Katsuki!” Eijirou exclaimed, looking over the food-based size chart Kurosaki had sent over via email. “That’s in me right now!” He exclaimed. “And it’s making brain waves!!!”

Eijirou really got into this whole baby business. But, oddly enough it still didn’t sink in that he himself was the pregnant one. He was fascinated by everything he learned about the baby’s development. The size chart was fun, the facts were educational, but Eijirou just couldn’t process that he himself was pregnant. It’s not like he was showing. Not like he felt it, minus the subsiding morning sickness and sore body sometimes. Maybe it was the fact that no one knew other than the doctors and Katsuki.

Either way. As eight weeks turned into nine, and nine turned into ten, and so on. Eijirou found himself getting lonely but the idea of telling someone about this pregnancy still didn’t sit right with him. Katsuki asked him to, even just Mina, but Eijirou couldn’t help the voice of doubt in the back of his mind that said wait.

So he waited. He felt major guilt talking to his mothers on the phone. They asked how he was doing and why he wasn’t on the news as often but Eijirou just lied and said his rut was late and he wanted to take time off to ensure he was okay. His mother worried, she always did, but his Ma said everything would be okay.

Eijirou sighed bored in their new home. He had finished unpacking long ago and now was simply spending most of his days watching the news missing hero work. Katsuki was not about to let him go back anytime soon but that didn’t stop him from daydreaming about getting back on the streets.

Katsuki has always been a protective alpha, but now it only seemed to be amplified. He’d come home and immediately check in with Eijirou before making him a big dinner and tending to him despite Eijirou not needing a lot of help.

Eijirou rubbed at his stomach, his new habit. Now at week 13, Kurosaki said he should be starting to show but Eijirou checked every day and saw no big change. The baby was the size of a peach right now, and Eijirou started up at the ceiling and thought about that.

A peach.

A lemon, one week later.

Kurosaki stopped by weekly and today was her day too. Eijioru looked forward to it, having someone to talk to mostly. Not that he didn’t keep up with his friends but, it was nice being able to talk about the baby.

Kurosaki paused when Eijirou first opened the door for her, looking Eijirou over.

“Oh, you are showing!” She noticed and Eijirou’s eyes snapped down to his stomach.

“I am?” He questioned and she nodded.

“Oh yes, definitely.”

Eijirou allowed her to enter, taking himself to the bathroom to look at himself in the mirror. He turned to his side, looking at his stomach but he didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

“Really?” He muttered and Kurosaki appeared in the doorway.

“It’s hard to notice at first. You are looking at yourself every day I imagine. This is why I try to avoid daily interactions with people. So that I can notice subtle changes in them before they do.”

“That...makes sense.”

“Did Bakugou say anything?”

“No.”

“Does he smell anything? I can smell your pregnancy.”

“He hasn’t mentioned if he could or not,” Eijrour muttered as he rubbed at his neck.

“You should ask.”

So he did.

“Do you notice anything new about me?” Eijirou asked his boyfriend who looked him over.

“Your roots are showing.”

“No, not-Do I look different?”

“No?”

“Do I smell different?”

“No?”

“Smell me,” Eijirou demanded and Katsuki set down his chopsticks and walked over to Eijirou and stuck his nose in his neck. He gently nuzzled him, leaving behind his own scent before pulling away.

“Maybe you smell sweeter? Barely.”

“Kurosaki said I was showing and that she could smell I was pregnant.”

“Pull up your shirt,” Katsuki ordered and Eijirou sat up and did so. Katsuki walked around him, reaching out to touch his stomach.

“I mean. Maybe? Did you have a big lunch?”

“I mean-not bigger than usual?”

“Do you feel anything?”

“No? But Kurosaki said I won’t until I’m 18 weeks in.”

“That’s close isn’t it?”

“4 weeks.”

“We should have taken photos,” Katsuki bemused and Eijirou whined.

“We should have!!!”

Despite the lack of photos, when week sixteen hit two major things happened. One, Eijioru saw his first bump. He looked at his bare chest in the mirror as he washed his hands, half asleep before he saw the flattened lines of his abs and stared. Turning to his side he noticed a bump and suddenly he felt very awake.

“Katsuki!” He shouted, running into the room and turning on the light. Katsuki shot up, hands out and ready to strike but Eijirou grabbed them and forced them on his stomach. “LOOK!”

“Eijirou, what the hell-”

“Katsuki look, it’s a bump!” Katsuki removed his hands and turned Eijirou to his side and stared tiredly at his stomach. Eijirou watched the sleep drain away from his face as he observed the belly bump. Slowly he dragged a hand over it. Looking up at his mate.

“Do you feel anything?”

“No, I told you we won’t until week 18,” Eijirou reminded him. Katsuki wrapped his arms around Eijirou, suddenly lifting him up and setting him back into the bed. Eijirou laughed, latching onto Katsuki who began peppering his face with kisses before moving down to his neck, then down his chest before finally settling on his stomach. He ran his thumbs over the bump, smiling at it before sitting up between Eijirou’s legs.

Eijirou stared up at him and Katsuki reached out to hold his face.

“Can I suck you off?”

“Katsuki!” Eijirou exclaimed and Katsuki threw his head back in a laugh.

“That a yes?”

“Does my bump get you off?”

“You get me off. Bump included,” Katsuki muttered, kissing Eijirou’s stomach once again. “She said we can still fuck.”

“She also said not to go overboard Mr. Alpha.”

“Well then sit back and relax, Ei. Let me take care of you,” Katsuki muttered against his thighs and Eijirou blushed, spreading his legs and letting Katsuki dive in.

The second thing that happened was Katsuki’s parents stopped by for a surprise visit.

Eijirou was curled up under a blanket on the couch when a sudden knock came at the door. Katsuki and Eijirou shared a look before Katsuki got up and answered it.

“What the fuck…” Katsuki muttered.

“Who is it?” Eijirou asked.

“What the hell do you two want?” Katsuki barked and Eijirou glanced up from his spot on the couch.

“I can’t visit my own son, you brat?” Eijirou paled. Mitsuki.

“Don’t just invite yourselves in!” Katsuki barked.

“I’ve been waiting months to be invited over to see your new place. And what do I get? Radio silence! You brat! Where is Eijirou?”

Eijirou debated how fast he could dive into the bedroom when Masaru appeared, smiling at Eijirou.

“Hello, Eijirou.”

“Hello, Bakugou-san.” Eijirou greeted with a tight smile.

“Eijirou!” Mitsuki cried as she entered. Throwing up arms out to pull him into a hug. Eijirou tried his best to return it, holding onto the blanket for dear life. Katsuki appeared and Eijirou sent him a panicked look.

“What the hell do you two want?” Katsuki demanded and Mitsuki let Eijirou go.

“I told you I wanted to see the house!”

“Well you saw it, now go home.”

“God, you’d think he was raised by wolves,” Mitsuki muttered.

Masaru huffed out a laugh, taking a seat next to Eijirou. Masaru paused, head tilted slightly upward as if sniffing the air like a dog would. His brows came together, looking around the room in confusion before settling his eye on his son.

“Is it just you two here right now?” He asked and Katsuki looked at Eijirou.

“Yeah, why?”

“I just…” Masaru stopped himself, glancing between the two of them. “Are you pregnant?” Kirishima choked on his spit and Katsuki’s eyes nearly bulged out of his skull. Mitsuki’s head snapped over to her son.

“Katsuki!”

“I not-How the fuck do you know that?!” Katsuki shouted.

“Omega’s have a better sense of smell than alpha’s do,” Masaru simply stated. “So you are then.”

“He is, not me,” Katsuki grumbled gesturing to his boyfriend. Mitsuki turned to Kirishima, looking him over.

“How far along are you?” She asked and Kirishima rubbed at the back of his neck.

“I’m in my second trimester. Week 16.”

“Your second-” Mitsuki seemed taken aback, turning to her son. “And you never mentioned this to us, you brat!”

“It’s not his fault,” Eijirou defended. “The doctors said...we wanted to wait until after the trial period but…”

Mitsuki’s expression softened, she reached out for Eijirou’s hand and took it.

“It’s hard to keep something like this a secret, Eijirou. I understand your hesitation but you shouldn’t burden yourself with this secret, it’s not good for the baby.”

“That’s what I said,” Katsuki muttered and Eijirou shot him a dirty look.

“My idiot son is right. You can’t think for yourself anymore. At least not while you are in this state.” Mitsuki reminds him and Eijioru only nods. “I’m guessing you haven’t told your parents then?” He shakes his head and Mitsuki nods. “Well if they are half as attentive as my husband they’ll smell it on you the second they see you if not even before that.”

“I know I just...I just didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up. The doctor said this could never happen again and I just…”

“Eijirou look at me,” Mitsuki encouraged and he did. “For years the doctors told me I was too alpha for children. And for years I thought they were right but look at me now. I have a wonderful, stupid, blessing for a son. And I know that if this is something you two really want then you should keep trying even if this doesn’t work out. And it will, honey, I know it. You’ll have an alpha as strong as my son. I’m sorry it is just genetics.”

Eijirou laughed, sniffling slightly as he blinked away watery eyes.

“Are you showing at all?” Masaru asked and Eijirou nodded.

“Yeah, it’s not much but you can kinda see it.” He stood up and lifted his shirt displaying the small bump and Mitsuki and Masaru both cooed, reaching out to touch. “The midwife said we can’t feel anything yet but I think sometimes I do.”

“Believe me kiddo, you’ll miss the times you can’t. Cherish this while you can. If this little firecracker has any of my son’s genetics then they’ll be kicking you day and night.”

Eijirou smiled down at his stomach.

“We should celebrate,” Masaru decided, taking his hand back. “We should go out to eat.”

“No, Eijirou is on a strict diet.” Katsuki declined.

“I have to agree with Katsuki, darling. But we will be staying for dinner. Now tell me, Eijirou, honey, what vitamins are you taking? Anything for your skin? It’s crucial that you keep up with your personal hygiene.”

____

“You know you have to talk to your parents eventually,” Katsuki told him one night as the two laid in bed together. Katsuki was lazily rubbing his belly, and Eijirou was enjoying the silence but now he let out a loud sigh.

“Easier said than done.”

“It’s not good for the baby to stress about it. Just rip it off Eijirou. You have to tell them eventually.”

“No,” Eijirou whined. He pulled the covers over his head to hide. “I’ll just have the baby then tell them.”

Katsuki let out a laugh.

“Your mom would kill me for that.”

Eijirou poked his head out of the sheets and sighed once more.

“Can you come with me?”

“Of course, Eijirou.”

“Let’s go when they are busy too. I don’t want them to smell it on me.”

“They are gonna smell it on your Eijirou. Wear a patch.”

Eijirou grumbled to himself. Katsuki ruffled his hair and Eijirou huffed.

“My next day off we will go, alright?”

“Okay.”

And they did. They did the long drive to Chiba in mostly silence. Katsuki sparing a hand to rub at Eijirou’s leg as they drove hoping to soothe his stressing mate out. Eijirou tried to keep his heart rate even, knowing his stress wasn’t good for the baby. They pulled up and parked before Eijirou exhaled heavily, sinking in his chair before he opened the door and slid out.

The two spared one another a glance hearing chatter from inside Eijirou’s family ramen shop. Eijirou took in a deep breath before he forced open the door.

“Welcome!” Eijirou’s adopted mother shouted from the kitchen.

There are two people inside aside from Eijirou’s two mothers. They didn’t glance up from their ramen bowls and Eijirou’s birth mother glanced up from the register and gasped seeing her son.

“Eijirou!” She exclaimed and her son gave her a small smile.

“Hey, mom,” he greeted and Katsuki led them to the bar area and took a seat. Eijirou’s mother came around to her son and leaned over the counter to grab his hand.

“You didn’t call,” she said.

“Surprise?”

“Keiko!” His mother shouted. Keiko poked her head up from the small window visible into the kitchen.

“Yeah, Rin?”

“Eijirou is here!”

“Ei?” Keiko came out with a big grin on her face. Her dark brown hair was held back by a bandana. “And Katsuki!” She noted, wrapping an arm around her wife. “To what do we owe the pleasure?”

“I uh- wanted to um, come by and see you guys.”

Katsuki kicked his ankle.

“That’s sweet of you. I wished you had called though we would have closed up shop!”

“You boys hungry?” Keiko asked, nudging Rin and nodding to the register where one of the patrons was waiting by. Rin rushed over to the customer as Katsuki shook his head.

“No, we ate.” He answered. Rin came back over as the customer left.

“At least have some apricots.” She insisted, going into the back and returning with a package of dried apricots. Eijirou glanced at Katsuki who nodded and Eijirou took the offered food with a smile.

“Thanks, Mom.”

“Are you sure everything is alright, Eijirou? You haven’t called recently.”

“Yeah, everything is okay.” Katsuki squeezed his leg and Eijirou bit the inside of his cheeks. “I just um…have to tell you guys something.”

“Sorry to interrupt.” The remaining customer said. “Can I get the check?”

“Yes of course,” Rin said gesturing to the register Eijirou waiting for his mother to return. Watching as she closed the door behind the customer and locked it. She returned and smiled at her son. “You were saying?”

Eijirou swallowed. Glancing at Katsuki.

“What did you want to tell us, Eijirou?” His mother asked. Eijirou swallowed down his nerves, squeezing Katsuki’s hand before looking up at both of his mothers.

“I’m pregnant.”

There was a beat of silence before his mother inhaled sharply and held her breath opening her mouth.

“I knew it,” she said.

“You...did?”

“I knew it. I told you something was wrong!” She pointed an accusatory finger at Keiko who was still processing the news. “I told you he hasn’t called or visited in months! That means something is wrong. You always call and you always visit. And then you said you were having rut issues and I thought maybe you broke up with Katsuki but I told her you’d tell me if that was happening. I know my son and he’d tell me these things. He always talks to me. I am his mother. I-” Her voice cracked and she brought a hand up to cover her mouth.

“Mom,” Eijirou muttered and his other mother recovered, wrapping an arm around her spouse.

“Is this-Is this good news? Do you want to be pregnant?”

“I-I think so,” Eijirou said, although not confidently.

“Eijirou you look at me,” she said firmly, “you look at me and tell me you want this baby. I don’t care if Katsuki wants it. I want to hear you say it.”

“Mom, he isn’t forcing me to have a kid!”

“Because this is your choice, Eijirou. Yours!”

“It is my choice! I want this baby! That’s why I’m telling you!”

“Okay,” his mother said with a sigh. She wiped at her eyes, sniffling slightly. “Sorry, Katsuki. I just had to make sure.”

Katsuki only nodded.

“Well you don’t look much like a balloon,” Keiko noted. “You far along?”

“17 weeks. Second trimester. You can see the bump a little,” Eijirou said, standing up and lifting up his shirt to show off the small bump.

“Huh,” Keiko muttered. “Would you look at that...”

“Kinda small for 17 weeks,” Rin muttered coming around the bar to feel Eijirou’s stomach. “Are you taking your vitamins? Who is your doctor? Do you have a midwife?”

“Doctor said they’re on the small side right now but still healthy.”

“Well you were small, that’s okay. So long as they’re healthy.”

“You know the gender yet?” Keiko asked.

“Keiko gender isn’t known until week 18.” Keiko raised her hands in defeat. “You will call us with it. No, no, I want to attend. You should see-No, no I don’t want you driving either. I’ll come to you from now on. Whatever you need, I’ll be there. I know Katsuki’s parents are closer but we can rent a hotel. The shop can wait. This- This is important, Eijirou. I want updates.”

“Mom, I just…” he took her hands into his and held them a moment. “Doctor said that this is really...rare. And I just don’t want you getting your hopes us if-”

“Eijirou,” his mother said sharply. “Do not talk badly right now. Do not manifest that energy. You have a perfectly healthy baby. That is what matters. That is all that matters. You are fine. Your baby is fine. I do not want to hear you talk about that again.”

Eijirou nodded and so did his mother.

“Baby knows, Eijirou,” she said, placing his hand over his own stomach. “And you’ll know too. You’ll feel it, trust me. Just like how I knew something was wrong with you, you’ll know too. I know Katsuki’s been telling you not to worry,” she said, tucking his hair behind his ear. “And you ought to listen to him for once.”

Katsuki gives his side a gentle nudge.

“And you better take care of him, too.” Rin pointed to Katsuki as she said this. “I want a hospital bag ready the second you get home because I know you don’t have one. You can never be too careful. And you better not be working. If I see you on the news the next thing they will report is your death. You understand me?”

“Yes, Mom.”

“Good.” She releases her son and folds her hands together before her. “Have you settled on a name yet?”

“We are waiting for the sex.”

“So you will be finding it out early then?”

“Yes.”

“Good. It’s always best to prepare. You can never be too careful. I know you kids together and your genders. Things aren’t what they used to be and that’s okay. You are very good with these things, Eijirou. Very thoughtful.”

“I had good role models.”

Keiko reached across the bar and gave Eijirou’s arm a punch.

“Keiko, he’s pregnant”! Rin hissed.

“I didn’t punch his stomach, Rin!”

“Mom, it’s fine.”

“No rough play, please. I don’t want the baby tossed around like a basketball. Now back to your doctor. No-you.” She pointed to Katsuki again who straightened up. “When are you marrying my son? Don’t tell me you plan on leaving this relationship what it is.”

“Actually, we did,” Eijirou answered.

“Eijirou,” his mother scorned.

“We aren’t going to rush our relationship just because we are having a baby.”

“Are you two fighting, is that it?”

“No, mom.”

“I just don’t see why then. You are already mated. You are pregnant, Eijirou. And you don’t want to get married at all?”

“I never said I didn’t want to get married!” Eijirou exclaimed. “I just don't want to rush things right now. I don’t want to worry about a wedding.”

“Eijirou is already stressed out regarding the pregnancy,” Katsuki said, finally speaking up. “I didn’t want to add stress by planning a wedding on top of the pregnancy.”

Rin frowned. She took a deep breath.

“Okay,” she said. “That’s very…but you plan to get married?”

“One day,” Eijirou answered but Rin wasn’t looking at him.

“Of course,” Katsuki said. “Just maybe after things have gotten less hectic.” Katsuki took Eijirou’s hand and Eijirou gave him a small smile.

“Okay.” Eijirou’s mother exhaled. “Well, this is good then. Very good. I’ll have to discuss things with Mitsuki,” his mother muttered mostly to herself but out loud nonetheless. “She can check in more frequently than me.”

“Mom, we are fine,” Eijirou told her but she was in mother mode.

“You sure you two aren’t hungry?”

“Eijirou can’t have this food, Keiko! It’ll upset his stomach. Eijirou, eat some more apricots. They are good for the baby.”

Eijirou rolled his eyes and spared a glance to Katsuki who rubbed at the small of his back.

“Told you it would be okay,” he told him with a kiss to his cheek and Eijirou hummed in agreement.
