Written in the Stars

Summary:

Izuku has always loved the stars. Something about looking up and seeing something so beautiful, that it makes you feel insignificant. It makes him feel like nothing he does matters, which is exactly why he lived as if each day was his last. Once he figured out that he's just a small speck in a huge vast existence, he felt at peace. He never let anything get to him anymore. Although, this was definitely a new revelation for him, so he's still working on it.

Work Text:

Izuku has always loved the stars. Something about looking up and seeing something so beautiful, that it makes you feel insignificant. It makes him feel like nothing he does matters, which is exactly why he lived as if each day was his last. Once he figured out that he's just a small speck in a huge vast existence, he felt at peace. He never let anything get to him anymore. Although, this was definitely a new revelation for him, so he's still working on it.

"Looking at the stars again?" He hears a voice say. Izuku turns his head to the side where it's resting on top of his folded arms, to see Katsuki stepping out of the sliding glass door and onto the soft grass.

"You know me," he says with a smile, turning his head back towards to sky.

"You know," Katsuki starts as he falls onto the ground next to Izuku, eyes up and head back as he stares up, "You can always invite me out here before I have to spend time looking for you."

"Don't you like to be asleep by nine pm latest?" Izuku responds, shifting his head to look at Katsuki with a small smirk playing on his lips. Katsuki hears it before he even looks over to Izuku.

"Funny, Deku," He chirps. He rolls his eyes but a small smile crosses his face as well. He stopped trying to hide his affection for Izuku years ago, it just got exhausting. It was so much easier to tell the stupid nerd the truth than to hold in his feelings any longer. "What's got you out here tonight, huh?"

"Oh, the usual, you know," He says in response. Katsuki knows enough about him to understand him almost completely. It's actually kind of nice to not have to talk sometimes. He knows he's known for his rambling and tangents, but with Katsuki, he feels like it's not even necessary. He can just offer him a look, and Katsuki knows exactly how he feels. Guess that's what you get when you date your childhood best friend.

"You wanna stay out here a little longer or you wanna come back inside with me? Even I'm getting cold out here," Katsuki says, lying down onto the grass next to Izuku and throwing his arm over his stomach.

"I'll come inside with you. I've been out here long enough," Izuku replies, bringing his arms from beneath his head to push himself up. Katsuki stops him with his hand splayed across his chest and whispers a small "Wait, look" and points upwards towards the stars. Izuku glances up just in time to see a star shoot across the sky.

"Guess I came out at the right time then," Katsuki says with a chuckle. He shifts his gaze towards Izuku, who's now sitting up with his arms behind his back and looking down at Katsuki. "What'd you wish for, Deku?"

Izuku smiled down at his boyfriend, his eyes twinkling from the light of the moon. "Nothing, Kacchan. I have everything I need here."

Katsuki scoffed, but he'd be lying if he said a light blush didn't creep up his cheeks at that statement. "Me too, nerd."

"Glad we're on the same page," Izuku looked back up to the sky, trying to piece together certain constellations as he felt Katsuki's stare bore into him. "Your gaze is hot, I can feel your eyes on me from over here."

"Maybe I just like what I see, nerd," He replies, not even glancing away from Izuku for a second, which makes Izuku blush this time. He stands up and offers Katsuki his hand, which he now gladly takes. "It's getting cold Kacchan, let's go inside."

They walk hand in hand back inside, Izuku occasionally bringing up Katsuki's hand to his mouth and placing small kisses on his knuckles. Their walk back isn't far, but they try to make the most of their time outside. Katsuki pulls Izuku into his chest, and rests his other hand on his waist, so they're slowly swaying under the stars.

"You know I love you, yeah?" Katsuki whispers to Izuku, his cheek resting against the others head.

"Of course I know, Kacchan! I love you too," Izuku replies, swaying them back and forth to the imaginary music flowing through their heads. Katsuki dips Izuku, and presses a soft kiss to his lips. This isn't like their normal kisses; there's something sweet behind it. Not that Katsuki's not always sweet with Izuku, but this was different.

Katsuki pulls Izuku back up and drops to one knee in front of him, reaching into his back pocket for something. Izuku gasps, not totally oblivious, and starts tearing up already.

"No, you're not allowed to cry before I've even said anything, Deku," Katsuki starts, looking up at Izuku with nothing but love and admiration in his eyes. "Izuku, you're the light and love of my life. Everyday I thank the stars that we're together, and that you love me as much as I love you. I've loved you since before I even knew what love was. I can't imagine my life without you, so don't make me, yeah? Marry me?"

Izuku doesn't even waste time with a "yes", he just flings himself straight into Katsuki's arms, toppling them both over and onto the grass once more. He's on top of Katsuki now, sobbing like crazy and quite frankly, restricting Katsuki's air flow. "Can't... breathe," Katsuki says, his breath catching in his throat at each word.

"Sorry, Kacchan," Izuku sniffles, pushing himself up, but not off Katsuki yet. "I'm just so happy," Izuku starts, before the tears start freely flowing again.

Katsuki smiles to himself and slowly rubs little circles into Izuku's hair, caressing his green curls and just letting his boyfriend - well fiancé now - just cry into his shoulder. He knows they're happy tears, so he lets it go. He decides then that nothing and nowhere is better than right here right now. Izuku taught Katsuki to love the stars, and now he's come to appreciate them in the same way Izuku does. He knows how Izuku feels about them - that they're a sentiment to how insignificant he feels, but how important they are to each other. Izuku may feel insignificant to the world, but to Katsuki, he is his world.

Notes:

This is my first ever post on AO3, and my first BakuDeku fic! I know my writing isn't amazing, I'm working on it, but this was just a little self indulgent fluff fic for myself.
