Chapter 1: Sun Stroke

Chapter Text

...

"S-Sunny?," a voice called out. No response.

"Sunny...", the voice persisted. Still no response.

"Sunny!", the voice called out again.

Sunny snapped out of his trance to find Basil gently tugging at the bottom his torso.

Basil. The person he considered to be his best friend. Sweet, kind, and... cute? Yes, of course Basil was cute. Sunny knew that all too well, but it was normal, right? To label another boy as "cute". I'd have to think more about this later, Sunny thought.

He looked up to Basil, his shining teal eyes and perfect- No. Focus.

"Sunny," Basil continued. "I've been trying to get your attention for a minute now. Are you okay, do you need to lie down?"

Sunny felt warmth rise to his cheeks as he quickly shook his head.

"O-Okay, Polly came to tell me that it's time for you to go home. The-" Basil said abruptly.

Before Basil had even finished his sentence, Sunny waved goodbye rushing out of the house rather quickly. After a few moments he had found that the fever like symptoms he had were gone, but he still couldn't help to wonder what really was the cause of those feelings. It couldn't be love, Sunny thought. Love is supposed to be between a man and woman. These thoughts were eventually replaced with, "Why can't I just be normal?"

-3 months prior-

"Hey Sunny, I got you something!" Basil said cheerfully while they were sketching.

Sunny raised his eyebrows. Basil had a gift for him? But it wasn't his birthday. Sunny has never been good at receiving gifts, he usually just said a simple "Thank you." and kept blankly staring at them. Eitherway, he waited for Basil to continue talking.

"It's not much. I'm just giving you one of my plants," the boy said. "It's a sunflower. I'm giving it to you because sunflowers may seem like nothing to bother with on the outside, but delicate and special on the inside. Just like you, Sunny!"

Time froze for a second. Sunny's cheeks immediately flushed, and his heart started pounding. He didn't know what was happening to him. It wouldn't go away either.

Why was he feeling such a way all of the sudden?

"T-T-Thanks, B-Basil.. uh... igottagotothebathroom!" Sunny exclaimed running to the nearest exit absentmindedly. His heart pounded. He had never felt this level of... embarrassment? Sunny didn't know. And he didn't want anyone else to know either.

Maybe he was just feeling sick today, and the new feeling will be a one time occurrence. Hopefully.
