Work Text:
"uh, hey?" changbin greeted the boy with the chubby cheeks in front of him a little awkwardly.
"hey! what brings you to my humble abode, dear sir?" the boy said a little too cheerfully for a college student. he looked around his age, a little younger probably.
"um, i'm seo changbin and i'm looking for lee minho. he's my best friend and he told me to meet him up at his dorm so we could finish the rest of our assignment." changbin explained quietly as he scratched at the back of his neck, casting his gaze away from the doe eyed boy.
"ah, minho, he's my best friend too! luckily for us, we were assigned a dorm together! i'm han jisung by the way!" the boy, now known as han jisung thrusted his hand out for changbin to shake.
"well, unluckily for me, you're a loud motherfucker, han jisung. why don't you come in, changbin? the assignment's due friday, innit?" lee minho shoved han jisung out of the doorway to greet changbin with his infamous, and also sometimes condescending, feline smile.
"why are you suddenly acting like a british cat lady?" jisung tried to stifle a laugh at his friend's antics.
"seriously, minho, 'innit'?" changbin asked, using his fingers to form air quotations around the word 'innit' as he rolled his eyes and let a snort out because, well, he has a broken humor and laughs at children falling on sidewalks.
'serves those little demons right." he would always tell himself when a kid fell down and he just hunched over in laughter.
"yes, don't want to disrespect the brits, now come in, ms. choi's a fucking bitch, and i don't want to flunk her class." minho replied and pulled changbin in by the arm.
jisung had disappeared somewhere in the dorm, and changbin found himself looking around for the boy, even though he had just met him for the first fucking time.
'no, changbin! you're just looking around minho's dorm because you've never been here! that's why! you're totally not looking for a certain han jisung!" changbin mentally scolded himself briefly.
soon, the boys were done with their assignment as they had already worked on the majority of it during their classes and free periods.
minho, being the caring friend he was, decided to make changbin stay for dinner, which included pizza and milkshakes from the nearby domino's. as they waited for their order to arrive, jisung, after two calls from minho, also came out of what changbin assumed to be his room and sat himself down next to minho on the floor.
since they had already introduced themselves at the doorway, they decided to talk about random topics. changbin occasionally stealing a glance or two from jisung, though he was pretty sure jisung was doing the same, judging by the way his gaze would start flitting around the room everytime changbin looked at him.
changbin found out that they both liked making music and rapping and that another one of his friends, bang chan, was a mutual friend of theirs since he was also a major in music. they also shared some classes together, and changbin was now questioning himself on how he had never seen the boy around.
as if jisung had read his mind, he had reassured him that it was nothing to worry about, that jisung was just a really invisible person and didn't like being seen. his anxiety made him hate spotlight.
although they'd only been talking for fifteen minutes, it felt like they had known each other since forever and now they were exchanging numbers as minho went to get their food from the delivery guy at their door.
after that evening, meeting up became a frequent thing. they made hang out plans through texts and even worked on a few songs with chan as a trio. it was a always just fun and games. but chan had talked about actually forming a trio and releasing some music on the internet.
the younger ones being eager to show their talent to more people, agreed on it in an instant without any hesitation.
they released a few of their songs on soundcloud on changbin's birthday, since his was the closest and then went out to a chinese restaurant for a small celebratory meal. minho had joined too, having nothing to do.
after that, though, something in jisung and changbin's friendship had changed a little. instead of making plans for three, and sometimes four people, they did so for two people and often went out on saturday nights on what they called their "little adventures."
changbin didn't know when, or how he started developing feelings for the younger, but he did, and even though it was a little scary -falling for your friend- it excited him a little bit. so it being a fine wednesday evening, changbin decided to take the full responsibility of planning their next "little adventure."
when asked, he just shrugged it off with a "your birthday's soon and i kind of wanted a day to ourselves for celebrating it before the main celebration."
and jisung had blushed at that. "okay then, it's a date." was what jisung had replied with after a while.
'he fucking blushed! and he called it a freaking date! a date! what the actual frickity fuckity fuck?!' changbin had screeched after he was out of earshot. people looked at him weird for it, but it's whatever.
now he was standing in front of his floor length mirror, thinking of ways to confess.
'hey, i know you're my friend but i fell for you.' too straightforward seo.
'uh, is it weird for someone to fall for their friend?' that's probably gonna give your secret away! but then again, jisung was too thick skulled to realize.
'y'know what, changbin? fuck it. just go on that date and see how it all plays out. if you're lucky enough, he likes you back. if you're not and he doesn't like you back, then boohoo bitch, you just had your first heartbreak. con-fucking-grats!' his inner monologue voice mocked.
clad in a 'mindless self indulgence' band crop top, a leather jacket he got from his dad for his seventeenth birthday, skinny ripped shorts that reached just a little over a couple inches above his knees and a pair of demonias, changbin now stood in front of the vintage store, waiting for a certain someone to show up.
as he looked up from his phone, there stood han jisung in all his glory, wearing a black faux silk crop top with a 'my chemical romance' print on the back of it and black leather pants adorned with numerous chains and a harness wrapped tight around his right thigh, the look complete with platform combat boots and his signature smoky eyeliner.
changbin felt his breath get caught in his throat as he watched jisung approach him. 'fuck, he's ethereal.' was the first thing that came to his mind.
"hey bin, um, i hope i'm not overdressed?" jisung asked a little nervously while he fiddled with one of the longer chains attached to his pants.
changbin scoffed light heartedly as he replied with a small smile, "are you sure you're asking the right person? look at me, i'm wearing fucking demonias."
"oh, yeah, uh, should we...?" jisung scratched the back of his neck, a little awkward. he was gifted in many things, but, unfortunately, socializing was not one of those many things, even if changbin was his friend.
"sure, let's go, i've got a lot to show you!" changbin's demeanor changed from playful to excited in just a second as he took jisung's hand in his and dragged him away into the store.
"calm down, pup, you're gonna make both of us trip over something." jisung chuckled as the bell above them chimed, signalling their entry in the store.
'p-pup?' changbin's brain short-circuited. he let out an embarrassed chuckle in response and started walking at a normal pace after they both greeted the person at the counter.
the store smelled of old books and pine trees, though the pair didn't really mind it. they both quite liked it, actually.
walking past the vinyls that were hung up on the walls and stacked in boxes for people to see or buy, they reached near the back of the store.
'he seems to know this place well.' jisung mused to himself with a fond smile as he looked at the excited boy in front of him.
as changbin grabbed an old-ish bass guitar from its place against the wall, he went into an excited rambling of how he used to visit the store all the time, and the person sitting by the counter, now known as felix lee, let him play after he got the male to promise that he'd not break or steal anything.
changbin strummed a few chords and soon started playing the bass of a mindless self indulgence song accompanied with his low humming as his fingers flew around the strings.
jisung just watched in awe. yeah, he could play the guitar and many other instruments and sing and rap, but there was just something about changbin in that outfit playing the instrument that got him awestruck. he really did like him, huh? too bad, the two were oblivious motherfuckers.
after changbin was done with the bass, he continued dragging jisung around the store, showing him things he adored and telling made up stories about funny looking sculptures and paintings.
after what seemed like a couple minutes, but was in fact, two whole hours, they left the store, jisung swinging a paper bag filled with vinyls he had bought from the store with his free hand. right, changbin was still holding his hand.
they were now on their way to a food truck, one that changbin often went to for the junk food. of course it wasn't healthy, but they were broke college students with a passion for food. why does good tasting food always have to be unhealthy?
changbin was, once again, in the middle of another rambling about how good the food there was as they waited in line on the sidewalk for their food to be done.
soon, they were paying for the bags of fats and calories and making their way to a park that was abandoned by kids but was often visited by teens like them, again, changbin's idea.
they sat down on the overgrown grass and unwrapped their egg rolls, also taking out the other dishes and setting them down between them so they could share.
conversations were short but comfortable, mostly about their weekends and jisung's plans for his birthday. most of the silence was filled with the sound of them chewing or sipping on their slushies.
as they got finished with their food and changbin threw out the trash in a nearby trash can, they once again seated themselves down on their spot, now just enjoying the cool summer breeze and staring out at the horizon.
'it is time.' changbin thought as he nervously inched his hand closer to jisung's. jisung, of course, noticed this and intertwined his fingers with changbin's, the soft pad of his thumb now rubbing over changbin's slightly calloused knuckles.
"ji?" changbin called the boy's name out meekly.
"yeah?" responded jisung in an airy tone, not wanting to interrupt the quiet that surrounded them.
"remember the first time we met?" changbin asked, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips.
"how can i forget?" jisung replied with a snort.
"y'know, i kind of thought you were annoying when you first greeted me at the doorway of your dorm." changbin chuckled.
jisung mock gasped as he feigned a shocked expression and placed a hand over his chest, where his heart was. "what do yo-" he was about to question him when he was cut off as changbin's index finger landed on his lips.
"let me finish." changbin said with a small smile as jisung blushed a light shade of pink at the sudden action.
changbin then continued, "i thought you were one of those overly loud motherfuckers who screamed in people's ears for fun." he laughed softly as jisung just watched him with big eyes.
"but then we talked after minho and i were done with our assignment, and there was so much more to you than just being a loud bitch." changbin snickered and jisung looked like he was about to interrupt again before he sealed his lips shut.
"you were someone i saw a friend in after so many years of having any real communications with only minho and chan, and on occasions when i went to the vintage store, felix. and you had this adorable habit of sticking your tongue out whenever you were focused on something, and i love it, as weird as it may sound. i love everything about you. you had your bad days, days when you felt like shit, and you always came to me. i don't know what you saw in me even when you had so many friends you could confide in. it was little things like these, and they made me fall for you. i'm really bad with this stuff, but, han jisung, i really like you." changbin finished off with a small smile, looking down at his lap as he fiddled with the grass.
what about jisung, you ask? well, he could only stare at changbin, mouth agape and large eyes sparkling with happy tears.
"seo changbin," he started, "i don't know how i got this lucky, to have the person i like like me back, but can i please kiss you right now?"
changbin snapped his head up at the younger's straightforwardness, regardless of how gay jisung actually was. he was too shocked to form coherent words, so he just leaned forward and eagerly pressed his lips to jisung's, the younger's hands coming up to rest on either side of changbin's waist as the older cradled his face as they both softly kissed.
"fucking finally!" they both scrambled away from each other at the loud shout. looking behind them, they saw minho and chan staring at them with huge grins across their faces. relaxing into easy smiles, they both shook their heads in mock disappointment at their friends' antics.
as they both walked back to changbin and chan's (who had decided to give the younger ones their privacy and stayed at minho's) dorm, intertwined hands swinging back and forth between them, jisung noticed something.
"it's ironic how we wore mcr and msi shirts, and like, you play the bass and i sing, and gerard way and lyn-z are married." jisung stated, amused by the fact.
"are you trying to imply something, han jisung?" changbin raised an eyebrow at his, now, boyfriend.
"maybe i am, han changbin." jisung just chuckled at the light punch changbin aimed at his shoulder.
