Work Text:

“Alright, hero course, let’s get set up!” Vlad King claps his hands together. “As your names are called, you’ll need to pair up!”

“Hai, sensei!” They chorus. Aizawa and Vlad alternate until every pair is called except one.

“Monoma, Midoriya,” Aizawa calls. “Stay behind after everyone else has gotten their room key.”

Izuku nods and glances sideways at Monoma, who’s halfway across the parking lot.

That won’t do , he thinks, and crosses the parking lot, suitcase in hand.

“Monoma-kun! Nice to see you,” Izuku greets.

He scoffs, “A member of the prestigious Class 1-A is taunting me with his kindness?! The audacity!”

“I was just saying hello,” Izuku pouts.

“Of course you were,” Monoma sneers. “A member of Class 1-A, bringing himself down to our level? Well, I’ll have you know that-“

“Settle down,” Aizawa grumbles. Izuku let’s out a quiet eep! and goes silent but Monoma seems to take it as a challenge.

“Could. Could it possibly be? Could it be that the teacher of the dazzling Class 1-A doesn’t want me rightfully slandering their students?” Monoma asks, sarcasm thick.

Kendou pops up and slaps him on the neck. “Sorry about him,” she apologizes to Aizawa.

“...it’s fine,” he says. “Now, head up to your room before I expel you.”

Kendou blinks in shock, and Ochako pulls on her arm. “Come on, Itsuka-chan! He’s serious, you know.” Kendou’s eyes widen, and she lets Ochako lead her away.

Aizawa’s gaze follows them until Vlad King ushers them through the side door, then snaps back to Izuku and Monoma.

“As I’m sure you’re aware, the hotel promised to have enough two-bed rooms ready for everyone,” Aizawa begins brusquely.

“Yeah,” Monoma answers for them.

Aizawa shifts his weight to his back foot and says, “Well, the hotel wasn’t prepared. They overbooked, and now they’re giving us a decently sized, one-bed room to make up for it.”

“Okay, and what does that have to do with us?” Monoma rolls his eyes.

Izuku places a hand on his shoulder and guesses, “I’m pretty sure that we’re the ones sharing the room, Monoma-kun.”

“What? No, that can’t be right,” Monoma snaps derisively. He whirls back around to face Aizawa. “Right?”

“Midoriya is correct,” Aizawa says. “You two will be sharing the single bed.”

“Why me?” Monoma laments, then glares at Aizawa accusingly. “Why can’t you and Vlad King share a bed?”

Izuku would laugh if this situation weren’t so ridiculous. “Can you really imagine Aizawa-sensei and Vlad King sharing a bed?” He laughs without thinking.

“I don’t appreciate the way that was phrased, Midoriya, but you’re correct. Vlad suggested that you two-“

“That bastard,” Monoma mutters.

Aizawa ignores him and continues on, “because ‘Midoriya is responsible and Monoma needs to learn to get along with others.’ His words, not mine,” Aizawa adds.

Monoma stays silent. After a moment, Izuku hesitantly voices, “It could be worse..?”

“What could be worse than this?” Monoma snaps.

“Oh, tons of things!” Izuku says helpfully. “For example, someone could have stolen our suitcases!”

“Now, why would they do that?” Neito retorts. “And how is that worse than being forced to share a bed with someone from the arrogant Class 1-A?”

Monoma and Izuku’s not-argument continues on for another ten minutes.

(Neither of them notice Aizawa slipping away and inside. He doesn’t need to be here for this.)

Finally, Izuku puts his foot down and says, “Fine, fine, baby seals are better than sea horses! Can we head inside now, though?”

“What, is a star member of Class 1-A afraid of being outside too long?” Monoma jeers. Then he looks around and startles. “Everyone else is gone!”

“Oh,” Izuku says. “I didn’t see that.”

“Of course not,” Monoma snarks. He grabs their suitcases, then shoves Izuku’s at him. “Let’s go!”

Izuku nods and follows him inside.

Vlad King is waiting just inside the side entrance, arms crossed. “What took you so long, Midoriya?”

Izuku gapes at the blatant favoritism, but Monoma doesn’t even blink. “Midoriya thought that seahorses were better than baby seals.”

Vlad King blinks, then turns away. “I can’t even look at you anymore. Your guys’ key card is on the table there; you each get one.”

“Thank you, sensei,” Monoma grins angelically, and Vlad smiles softly.

Then he turns to Izuku and says, “Don’t drag him into another argument, please.”

“But I-”

“Buh-bup!” Vlad shushes Izuku. “Off you go now!”

Izuku sighs and nods, dragging his suitcase behind him. “This says we’re in room 368B, Monoma.”

“Even our room number agrees that Class B is superior,” Monoma grins. He shoves past Izuku and declares, “ I’ll lead the way!”

“Alright,” Izuku agrees passively. “You lead.”

Monoma then proceeds to get them hopelessly lost.

“How did you do this?” Izuku asks, bewildered. “Somehow, we’ve made it to every floor but our own. How? This hotel is not that big!”

“You try leading us through this maze,” Monoma snaps defensively.

Izuku shrugs. “Okay.” He pulls up a map of the hotel on his phone and two minutes later, they’re standing in front of room 368B. “Tada!” Izuku exclaims, grinning.

“Dumb luck,” Monoma mutters, opening the door simultaneously.

“Yeah, sure,” Izuku says. He starts into the room himself, then bumps into Monoma. “Hey, what’s the holdup- oh wow that’s big!

To be fair, the room isn’t exactly ginormous, but it’s the size of their Yuuei dorm rooms and they’d been told to prepare for less than half that space.

Izuku gently pushes past Monoma, abandoning his suitcase and heading straight for the bed. “It’s so soft,” he marvels. “Like a pillow!”

“Really?” Monoma scoffs. “I doubt it’s that- oooooh that is soft,” he changes his tune when he flops down himself, right next to Izuku.

“Mhm,” Izuku agrees. “I kinda don’t want to get up.”

“Just like Class 1-A to be lazy as well as arrogant,” Monoma snarks, but there’s no real heat behind it this time. He also doesn’t move to get up.

Izuku rolls over so that he’s facing Monoma. “Why do we need to get up?”

“For dinner?” Monoma suggests, turning over as well. “I don’t actually know…”

“Well, I’m not hungry,” Izuku says. “I think I’m gonna just stay here. In this nice, comfy bed.”

“I think I might join you,” Monoma wiggles deeper into the bed. “It’s so comfortable.”

“The bed’s a good size, too,” Izuku says. “But you know… it’s pretty cold over here.”

“Really? You’re cold?” Monoma rolls his eyes. Izuku ndos, and Monoma softens. “I’m cold too, actually. “If.. if you want we could.. We could cuddle?”

“You mean that?” Izuku exclaims, eyes shining.

“Only if you promise not to be weird about it!” Monoma exclaims. “I want to make that very clear!”

“I’ll be as normal as possible,” Izuku promises solemnly.

“Then get on over, Midoriya.” Monoma opens his arms and Izuku wriggles into them.

On impulse, he says, “Don’t call me Midoriya anymore.”

“Huh?” Monoma startles. “What am I supposed to call you, then?”

“Call me Izuku,” he suggests.

“Really?” Monoma blinks. Izuku nods against his shoulder. “Alright, then. Call me Neito.”

“You’re sure?” Izuku checks. “I won’t offend you or anything?”

“I’m offering,” Neito rolls his eyes. “Besides,  you haven’t really offended me.”

“Then why are you so passive aggressive towards me all the time?”

“Your class is annoying and you’re an easy target,” Neito admits.

Izuku leans back to hit him- not too hard, but he isn’t exactly gentle. “Neito!! That’s so mean!”

“I know,” he grins fiendishly, “but what else am I going to do? Your class doesn’t exactly try to be friends with us.”

“Because the first time we met your class was yelling at us!” Izuku exclaims.

Neito frowns. “Oh, right. Forgot about that.”

“You forgot?”

“Mhm,” Neito hums. “It wasn’t very memorable. But… now that I’ve told you a secret, you’ve got to tell me one.”

“Neito,” Izuku whines.

“Izuku,” Neito whines back. “Tell me something secret!”

“Hmph,” Izuku pouts. He thinks for a moment. “Did you know that I’ve never had a pet?”

“That isn’t a real secret!” Neito complains.

“Alright, fine,” Izuku groans. “I, uh… I used to eat paste when I was a kid,” he admits.

“Everyone used to do that,” Neito says flippantly.

“Well, that’s all the secrets you’re getting so you’d best be quiet,” Izuku says. He yawns, “Besides, I’m getting tired. I think I’m gonna fall asleep soon.”

Neito’s hand slides up his back to card through his fluffy hair. “I’ll just have to hear your secret in the morning, then. A real one,” he adds teasingly.

“Alright,” Izuku agrees sleepily. “Goodnight, Neichan.”

He falls asleep and misses the way that Neito flushes red at the cutesy nickname.

“Goodnight, Izuku,” he murmurs. “Sleep well.”

Neito falls asleep soon after that, and both boys rest peacefully. All is well.
