Work Text:
Hitoshi is incredibly irritated with himself.
Why on god's green earth would he ever opt to wake up at 4 am on a Sunday just to go and waste energy exercising?
Because Denki Kaminari is very pretty, that's why.
He's also popular, and is constantly hanging out with someone every hour of every goddamn day. Hitoshi just wants to get him alone so he can tell him how he feels without making a scene.
He learned recently that Denki exercises alone, so maybe then he could say something?
Toshi (9:39): what time do u usually train?
Denks (9:40): at like, 4:30
Toshi (9:40): pm??
Denks (9:41): AM :)
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Hitoshi mumbled to himself. He never wakes up early.
But Denki will be alone... is that a good trade off?
Toshi (9:42): mind if I join u?
Denks (9:43): not at all!
Denks (9:43): but u usually sleep in on days off, no?
Toshi (9:44): yeah but it's fine
Denks (9:45): ok cool ;) meet me by the Class A dorms
And that's how Hitoshi found himself stumbling over to meet Denki at 4:30 AM.
The goddamn sun wasn't even up yet, but that didn't seem to stop Denki from doing warmup stretches in sinful booty shorts.
"Good morning!" he sang as Hitoshi wandered over to him, barely able to keep his eyes open. He couldn't respond normally, so he just grunted.
The inward struggle was still brewing inside Hitoshi as he watched Denki stretch. Is it really worth it? Should I go back to sleep? Can I sleep right here, on the sidewalk? Would that be weird? It sounds worth it.
Wait, what's that noise?
Oh, Denki is saying something.
"What?" he said dumbly, fighting to pay attention.
Denki just laughed. "I said you can go back and sleep if you want to. I won't make fun of you or anything."
"Nah," Hitoshi shook his head, and followed it with the biggest yawn in the world. "I'm committed."
He meant that in more ways than one, but Denki didn't need to know that yet.
"If you say so! We'll start off slow, okay?" he said way to enthusiastically considering what time it was, and started walking, motioning for Hitoshi to follow. He didn't notice the backpack Denki was wearing at first. He goes running every morning carrying that? How?
Hitoshi decided not to question it, and started walking after him.
4:30 AM is honestly a hidden gem, when it comes to the time of day that is.
It's so quiet, with cars only passing every few minutes, and shop owners getting ready to open, and early runners like Denki tried their best to avoid them to keep the peace.
Hitoshi also noticed the sky gradually changing from dark blue to sea foam yellow, an underrated color in his opinion. He didn't even know that it existed up until now.
It was nice. Denki is nice.
"We should pick up the pace a little, we're only halfway there." Denki said after a while, turning his brisk walk into a light jog. Hitoshi mindlessly matched his pace, only focusing straight ahead and Denki's scent.
"So, Shinso... why did you wanna come train with me?" he asked, seemingly too curious to keep quiet.
"You're pretty." Hitoshi admitted accidentally, but he found that he was too tired to care.
"Haha, what?" Denki stumbled a little. He probably figured out Hitoshi didn't mean to say that, and was giving him a chance to take it back. Like hell I'm gonna take it back. It's true.
"You're pretty," he repeated, still looking straight ahead. "and funny, and talented, and so popular that you're never alone except for this one god awful time of day where I would never normally have a chance of waking up but you make it worth it. You make everything worth it.
"I wanted to confess to you this morning but quite honestly, I had no plan and even if I did, I wouldn't remember it so..." he trailed off, his brain finally catching up to what he was saying.
Denki was quiet for a minute, then he grinned. "You're really tired, huh?"
"Extremely, yes." Hitoshi said flatly.
"Well, the good news is, we made it." Denki chuckled, slowing to a stop at a scenic overlook. "Check it."
Hitoshi stopped running and turned his gaze over to the guardrail. Oh right. The sun also rises.
The sun was barely visible, but the light was still able to sneak through the gaps from the buildings. The sky was all sorts of pretty colors, and the sun's light turned the clouds even more colors. Hitoshi had never seen anything like it. He was always asleep.
"So... which is prettier?" Denki asked, a little nervously. Hitoshi blinked at him. "You."
And with as much grace as his sleep deprived ass could, Hitoshi leaned down and kissed Denki with no hesitation. Denki made a little surprised noise, but smiled against his lips wrapping his arms around Hitoshi's shoulders to pull him closer. It was probably the worst kiss ever, but neither cared.
Eventually they parted, and Hitoshi opened his eyes again to find the sweetest smile looking up at him. "Man... you're really tired." Denki whispered.
"You are correct," Hitoshi said, finally smiling too. "I want to die."
"Well you're in luck! One sec," Denki wriggled out of Hitoshi's arms, much to his disappointment, and unzipped his backpack and pulled out a packaged hammock.
Hitoshi watched him set it up, not helping at all, but Denki didn't seem to mind as he rambled away. "Breakfast is at 9, so I usually sleep here until around 8:30, then jog back to go eat. But this hammock is big enough for two people! I've always wanted to share it."
Once he finished setting it up he climbed in. "So if you're gonna pass out, at least do it somewhere comfy- OOF! Ack, 'Toshi! I can't breathe!" Denki burst into giggles as Hitoshi plopped himself onto the hammock right on top of Denki.
This is nice. I like this. He thought as Denki adjusted so they were both in comfortable positions (or at least until Hitoshi wasn't suffocating him anymore).
This was worth it. Denki is worth it. he sighed dreamily and drifted off, fully intending on staying here until the sun set, so they could watch that together too.
