Somehow what was supposed to be a small gathering had turned into this massive rager of a party.
Captain Vangeance’s birthday was coming up and Captain Yami happened to overhear that it was just going to be small dinner. Of course, Yami, true to character, insisted that that was no way to have a party and that lots of liquor needed to be involved and then Charmy, who would use any excuse to cook excessive amounts food overheard and then things just spiraled from there into a birthday bash with the Black Bulls and the Golden Dawn.
Not one for parties or lots of people, Yuno stoically stood near Asta as he always did, even though he always said rivals shouldn’t be close to each other. Picking at a plate of delicious food (courtesy of Charmy) and occasionally bantering with the ash blond boy, throwing out antagonizing words to get him to react and focus his attention solely on Yuno before it would be unfortunately stolen away by someone else.
He halfheartedly listens to a conversation between a few of the Black Bulls and fellow Golden Dawn members until a few particular words uttered by Noel caught his attention.
“As if Stupidsta, Would have anything to contribute to this conversation given that he hasn’t even had his first kiss.” She looks both haughty and bashful with a little too much care in her gaze towards Asta.
Irritating.
Finral and Vanessa tease the innocent Asta until the boy politely raises his hand. “You know, I’ve actually already had my first kiss.”
Yuno chokes on his drink and all the attention of the group turns solely onto Asta.
“What!?” Screeches both Noel and Mimosa looking very upset and panicked.
The rest of the group is worked into a frenzy crying out in disbelief. Finral grabs Asta’s shoulders and shakes Asta back and forth with dramatic tears in his eyes. “How!? How did you manage to kiss someone before me, when I haven’t even had my first kiss.”
Vanessa drunkenly asks. “Who was your first boy-o?
“It was Yuno!” Asta exclaims without any hesitation or tact towards the situation at hand.
Suddenly all of their eyes turn to Yuno in astonishment and he glances to the side completely avoiding their gazes.
Asta continues. “It happened when we kids. We saw two people kissing and asked Sister Lily about it. She told us that it’s what two people do when they love each other. So Yuno—,” Asta is clearly trying his hardest not to laugh and is taking far to much enjoyment out of past behavior that he thinks now would be far out of characters for the present Yuno( little does he know). Yuno can feeling the cringing embarrassment gripping his heart at the situation as his own feelings and desires are revealed before a crowd.. “— he asked to kiss me since we were best friends and loved each other."
“Really now?” Vanessa drawls out looking at Yuno amusedly. Everyone else clearly thinks that it was just a simple and innocent misunderstanding between children but it seems that Vanessa knows better.
He tries his best not to look flustered but he can’t help the burning feeling on his face and the sudden heat beneath his collar. The large room is suddenly feeling far too claustrophobic.
The fond memory replays in his mind. It had happened after a long hot summer day of adventuring and exploring. They were sitting on top of the demon skull staring out over Hage village as the sunset and the evening cooled and fire flies bumbled about with crickets and other night creatures beginning to chirp their evening songs. The thought of the couple kissing had been bouncing around in the back of Yuno’s head for awhile although he hadn’t given it too much thought. But when staring at Asta’s relaxed gaze in that perfectly serene moment, Yuno had felt a strange pull in his heart and a sudden urge came over him.
“Hey Asta?” He spoke softly.
“Yah?” Asta responded back turning his gaze towards Yuno.
“Can you just let me kiss you once?”
Asta’s face scrunched in confusion. “Why would you want to kiss me?”
Yuno already had the answer prepared on the tip of his tongue as he knew the green eyed boy would respond in such away. “Because we love each other, right?”
Asta’s own mind filled out Yuno’s reasoning. Kissing was something done by two people who love each other so therefore it made sense that they should kiss. “Okay!” Asta agreed.
It was a simple peck. Just a light graze of soft skin as their heads had slowly moved forward, awkward and unfamiliar on all accounts, but for a single moment, Yuno had felt wholly complete.
When they had both opened their eyes once more, both of their faces were blushing horribly red and they had to turn away from each other lest they combust.
Of course Yuno managed to kiss Asta a few more times before Sister Lily caught them and explained what different types of love meant. But Yuno on some level had already understood that.
Everyone laughs at the story and the supposed simple misunderstanding of children.
After the laughter dies down, Noel stammers out. “W-well since you were children, a kiss like that doesn’t count.”
“Oh maybe you’re right!” Says Asta.
Yuno can’t help the twitch of eyebrow that occurs and the sudden influx of severe irritation he feels. He may have been a child but he was fully conscious of his feelings for Asta(although his feelings are a lot less innocent in the present) and exactly what it meant to kiss Asta on the lips. He’s being petulant. He had never given much thought to the meaning of ones first kiss and he thinks in the grand scheme of growing up and developing romantic relationships, who you kissed first shouldn’t matter very much. But still, he can’t help but feel a silly amount of prideful joy at being Asta’s first kiss. They had witnessed and experienced all of their firsts together since the moment they had been dropped off at the orphanage as babies and it seems only natural that going forward that this trend of sharing in each other’s firsts would continue.
Mimosa agrees. “Yes I think so as well.”
He almost mutters some uncouth words in his mind against Mimosa before he corrects himself. Unwilling to even mentally slander his friend and comrade even when he feels both rightfully and unrightfully that she is trying to take something important away from him.
But Vanessa interjects smiling in a beguiling way. “Nope! A kiss is a kiss, so even if they were kids, it still counts.”
He really shouldn’t feel so happy about the dejected looks that fall on Noel and Mimosa’s faces.
