"Weissssss"
"..."
"Weissssss"
"Ruby Rose! Quit your whining. We just got out of the carriage! Honestly you can’t sit still for five minutes."
Ruby huffed as she continued to pout.
"But it's been so boooooring today. No attempts on your life, no random townsperson asking for your hand in marriage and no foolish knights challenging me for your affections."
Weiss took Ruby's calloused hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"The last knight that challenged you ended up in the infirmary for a month!". She said with a laugh.
"Hey! It's not my fault! They challenged me! And besides, I never go easy especially when it comes to you Weiss."
Weiss blushed, "I don't know why on Remnant you entertain the idea that one could simply beat you to earn my affection. I chose to give it to you and you alone by choice that is completely my own."
Ruby shook her hand free to run ahead and strike a pose.
"My dearest Weiss. While you indeed chose to shower me with love. It was my choice to swear my life to you, to fight everyday to protect and cherish you.". She said with a flourish.
Weiss rolled her eyes at the dramatics but couldn't help the fond look she held for the younger girl.
"Ruby…"
As she caught up to the red clad girl she was wrapped in her strong arms. Weiss leaned up to place a kiss on the younger girl’s lips eliciting a giggle. She smiled into their kiss, relishing in the comfort provided by Ruby’s hold on her.
Weiss wanted to continue their activities but in a flash Ruby was ushering her toward the carriage.
“Weiss.” Ruby said her name in a breathy haste. Weiss could feel the hot air move across her skin. She knew what was happening: Ruby sensed danger and was moving them into a position from which she could protect her.
She took a moment to scan her surroundings, she would try and formulate an escape route in the event Ruby could not handle whatever spurred her into action. She was highly doubtful that she and Ruby would not be able to handle whatever was thrown their way, but it was always better to consider every possibility.
Weiss was never a slouch when it came to combat; a talented mage blessed with both natural ability coupled with the Schnee family’s ability to channel magic through glyphs. However over time with Ruby serving as her bodyguard she had to admit that she was a little rusty when it came to actual combat.
Ruby was just that good.
Before long the threat made itself known; a group of men approached the carriage. Weiss assumed that it was a group of desperate mercenaries. They must be from a neighboring kingdom if they were approaching them in broad daylight. No Atlas mercenary dared target Weiss with the reaper guarding her at all times.
“It’s our lucky day boys! The crown princess alone with a little girl, what an easy bounty. Now run along little girl, if you don’t want to get hurt.”
Ruby stood her ground with a smirk while Weiss did her best to seem scared. Those who didn’t know about Ruby always underestimated her due to her age and smaller size.
"Princess, surely you would want your little friend here to be safe. Go on, tell her to run off and get help.". The leader of the group called out to her as he chuckled with his lackies.
It was Weiss' turn to smirk, "Oh she's just fine where she is, after all the reaper of Atlas is watching over me."
The group of mercenaries halted their approach for a second before bursting out laughing.
"Can you believe her? Trying to scare us away with a fairytale. Come on princess, everyone knows it's just a story to scare people away from Atlas."
Suddenly a chill filled the air; the mercenaries must have felt this too as they all drew their weapons. Ruby walked forward before donning her cloak.
"A fairytale you say.". Her scythe formed out of shadows cast on them from the tree line.
"Would you like to be the next fairytale a mother tells her child?"
She vanished.
The mercenaries fell back to assume a defensive position only for their formation to break as one member was already missing. Fear was taking root in their hearts now, Ruby was nothing more than a blur of metal and death.
Another member, gone.
The leader began swinging wildly to try and fend off the reaper.
"You know," Ruby's voice was barely a whisper, carried on the wind, "There's a reason so many people outside of Atlas think I'm a fairytale."
Weiss watched in awe as through the leader's mindless slashing, the remaining members were struck down, leaving him standing alone.
Ruby reappeared before him, scythe poised and ready to strike.
"And that reason is because no one outside of Atlas has seen me-"
She flashed behind him striking him down where he stood.
"-and lived."
Ruby rid herself of her weapon and cloak as she walked back to the carriage.
"Sorry you had to see all that Weiss. Weiss? Ah! Ahhhhhh!"
Weiss was on her the moment the carriage door shut. She pinned her to the seat claiming her lips in a frenzied haze.
"Don't apologize you dolt, you know how worked up I get seeing you fight for me."
Ruby wrapped her arms around Weiss' neck pulling her down into another heated embrace. The two separated, Ruby stared into Weiss' half-lidded eyes.
"Your highness, I swore to protect you with my life," she blew hot air past Weiss' ear before whispering. "My life is yours, entirely, and eternally. Now what does my princess desire?"

When the carriage returned to the castle, Winter was waiting at the gate for them.
"Weiss! You're late! I was afraid something happened."
Weiss brushed her sister's worries aside.
"Please Winter, you know that Ruby is more than capable of protecting me."
Winter relaxed, the knowledge of her sister's safe return placating her frayed nerves. She examined her up and down taking note of their disheveled clothing and a few tender bruises on Ruby's neck.
Ruby chuckled nervously when she spotted the sly grin on the elder Schnee's face.
"Oh dearest sister, I knew that Ruby was most capable… but it appears I am wrong for I do see a few bruises. I must say I am most surprised something actually landed a hit on you hard enough to bruise. Much less, five times."
Ruby was as red as her namesake as she turned to Weiss. "Five??!"
"Come on Ruby, let us continue our activities from earlier in my chambers.". Weiss said with a huff, though Ruby could tell she was embarrassed as well.
Winter simply laughed as she watched the couple scurry off to attend to more pleasurable matters.
