Work Text:
“Who writes letters anymore? I never understood it.” Itsuko chuckles to herself. She recalls the elated grins her dad had when he received a letter with “From Your Kacchan” scrawled on the label.
“Electronic messages could be easily tracked.” Kota says matter-of-factly.
“He’s right, Itsuko.” Shoto places a wrinkled hand atop her head. Oh my, when had she gotten so big? It feels like only yesterday that his best friends announced they were adopting a second child. “But Deku and Dynamight really wanted to keep in touch no matter how difficult.”
“Sounds like more trouble than what it’s worth.”
“Shut up, onii-san! It’s romantic! College made you a sourpuss!” She takes an envelope from the top of the box. It’s baby pink and decorated with wobbly hearts.
Shoto watches her struggle with the seal. “Careful.”
Itsuko clears her throat reading from the top of the lines. Izuku’s scrawl reads as follows,
“To my dearest Kacchan whose light blinds me everyday— AAWW!!”
“Get on with it!” Kota rolls his eyes. “We’ll also be six feet underground by the time you get on with it.”
“To my dearest Kacchan whose light blinds we everyday. The mission is going great. It’s a little embarrassing being a director. I’d rather be the one following direction. You know how good I am at that. Especially when you tell me to get on my kn— oh my god.”
Shoto swaps the letter from her hand with another, awkwardly chuckling about how the pair were very in love even years down the line.
“To Deku: I saw a magazine cover with you when I was undercover in Shibuya...” Itsuko goes quiet. Kota takes the mail from her hands.
“Shitty nerd, what’s up with those skinny jeans I saw? Little slut, I bet you liked the world seeing your perky ass. You always-“
“Okay, that’s enough of that.” Shoto swipes the paper letter from a manically snickering Kota.
Todoroki glances at a horrified Itsuko, and hazards another try.
The siblings watch their Uncle Shoto peel back the seal, scan the letter, and the promptly stamp the steal back down. Todoroki places the three letters back in the box before lifting it and walking towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Itsuko stutters out, face still red.
“I’m digging up your parents’ grave and burying this with them. Don’t wait up.”
