Nothing Can Stop Us Now

Summary:

RadioHusk Week 2021! (I'm sorry I'm very very late for this, sorry) Human AU!
Husk is just a few years older than Alastor. Alastor is a famous radio host and Husker is the inheritance of his father who owns the biggest casinos around the globe. They are already lovers in this fanfic.

I decided I want to share it here too! Maybe I'll continue this... I just want to comply the sequencing to make a whole story. But if something's not right I'd be happy to entertain analysis.

Chapter 1: First Time: First Kiss

Chapter Text

Not believing the dreamy sight before him is his very best friend and beloved lover. Indulging in the presence of the love of his life.

His hair burnt umber as earth, bangs swaying with the wind.

His face shining with the hit of sunlight through the trees.

His brown round eyes-pairing his brunette hair-glowing full of life.

His ever-present smile and heartful laughs making the whole world beautiful and colorful.

His voice loved by all who hears him and those who listen to his songs would fall for.

Even he himself fell in love with the famous radio host long before they have their positions in life. It started when they were just friends and thankfully now they are together.

Lost in the abyss of his own thoughts of how perfect his lover was in every way. He could never get tired of the forever blabbering of the young man. He could only hear the sweet voice in the far distance yet so near.

“Husker, dear?” His wandering thoughts came to a halt, looking at his lover whose eyes were shaped in concern. “You have been lost staring to my face for a very long moment now darling and I really guess you’ve lost track of what we were conversing. Is there something bothering you amou?” (my love)

Husk chuckled in reply hearing the term, “Nope. I’m just taking in the beauty before me.”

Alastor’s face heat up but shook his head to contain the blush emerging his cheeks and cleared his throat, “Clearly, you haven’t been listening to me!” He pouted. That adorable face. Oh, Husk’s poor heart. But started to talk again on whatever was in the conversation. “As I was saying…”

From the very beginning of the speech, Husk was lost in dreamland once again.

Alastor was on a mat sitting on his legs with folded knees. Those slender legs sure are long to be spread straightly without his feet on the grass. With his small form, he could adjust in the little space while the other didn’t care about the grass could dirt his socks. Quite the opposite they are in ‘cleanliness’. They were outside Al’s home under a big old tree giving the two the right amount of shade from the afternoon sun and the perfect view from the lake in the woods. They were having a picnic.

A time for themselves.

All alone. Together.

Husk wasn’t paying attention with the whole chatting so he jerked up a bit when he felt sudden contact on his side. Alastor had wrapped around his side arm, body leaning against him while nuzzling his face. By someone who loves to invade personal bubbles but repulsed by being touched. He is a clingy bastard.

Al made a sigh and relaxed. “I’m very happy to spend my day with you mon cher.”

He didn’t recognize Husk being absent minded again huh. Well, might as well get along, “Uh, yeah…” shifting to a more comfortable position, laying his back on the tree. “The view from here is damn beautiful but it ain’t as gorgeous as you.” Husk can’t help himself but adore every little thing for him.

“O-oh?” Al never stutters his whole life. He’s a damn radio host! Warmth welling up his chest, crazy movements his insides, his heart beating can be heard at the moment of silence, cheeks blushing slightly. He really is flustered. He slumped a bit then looked over what the other was describing.

Indeed, the view was beautiful with the perfect angle from where they were sitting with how the sunlight strikes the land and lake and how the birds flew from tree to tree and the sound of swaying trees because of the wind and wholesomely, the peacefulness. Such a beautiful sight it was.

“May I ask, why are we having an outing out here? I’m not complaining yes it’s a very fine day to be outside and all but I thought you were going to attend to your business?” Alastor asked after getting himself composed. Husk is the son of the owner of big shot casinos around the globe. He manages a bar in Louisiana. Perfect timing since Alastor is here. Alastor is a famous radio host of the south. Both are very rich but settles with simple things.

Husk smirked lovingly and looked at Alastor intently on the side. Their faces were so close that when Al looked up time stopped as they made eye contact. His senses stopped functioning. The surroundings unheard. Other things unseen. He could only hear his own heart hammering in his chest while staring into the look of his man. It was very intimate. Face so hot with cheeks glowing red. He went wide eyed and shuffled away when a thought hit hm. Badly, he misunderstood.

“What’s with the look?! Oh no no no, you know I’m not ready for well, that!”

Husk raised a brow and approached him, “Why would you think I would fucking do that? You know how much I don’t want you to be uncomfortable. I love you so much.” Besides, their outside. Why the fuck would Al think of such? Maybe because of the stupid romance drama he’d seen when lovers were so close to each other and would proceed to being intimate. Fuck the picture shows (movies).

Alastor’s heart is beating wildly now and face beat red. He doesn’t know how to be romantic nor want to have relationships but this is his first. He loves Husk he really does. The only thing that he doesn’t want is sex. He didn’t know why, it’s just… revolting. To his knowledge, being in a romantic relationship requires it but dear Husk have been telling him that love is not all about it. Husk understood that very well and never comes up with that. Respecting the other’s boundaries. He needs to remind the other if necessary.

Husk draped a hand over his face and grumbled a swear. I was just ugh… never mind. He sighed and went back to his place where he sat comfortably, “Just, let’s eat?”

Alastor perked up in a second like nothing has happened and hurried to get the basket with food from his side. Husk could smell the enticing smell hovering in the air once Al has opened the basket. He’s stomach rumbled loud enough for Alastor to hear.

“Really hungry dear? Ha ha ha! You should have said earlier!” Just holding the basket and not taking out the food from it.

“If I had, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the sight of you hihi.”

“Oh, shut up. You just lack food that the air gets up into that big head of yours,” Alastor giggled. Fucking giggled. With blush on his face.

“Yea, yea.” Husk just nodded. Boy, he was having fun in this.

“But first, you must close your eyes.”

Husk obeyed. But peeked a little as Alastor took the food from the basket. It was covered. Dammit he doesn’t know what it was. Alastor caught him peeking and shove his hand to cover Husk’s eyes.

“What did I say, mon cher?” The French making him weak and just obeyed. He doesn’t want to delay his complaining stomach any longer. A few seconds later.

“Open your mouth.”

Then again, he obeyed. He opened his mouth and waited for the food. Alastor fed him with a spoonful. Taking in the scent of seafood. Upon receiving he chewed slowly and enjoyed the taste for a while and hummed. Alastor then take his hand off from covering. Husk opened his eyes and saw Alastor’s very excited face. His gleefulness reflected shortly.

“Fucking hell! That was damn delicious! I bet it’s my favorite…. Hmm, jambalaya!”

“How can you tell? It isn’t your ‘favorite’, your favorite is crepe!” Al pouted.

“All of your cooking is my favorite, sweetheart. Anything you cook is truly delicious! Makes me hungrier,” Husk laughed a bit and took more of it. He invited Alastor to go for a picnic but of course he doesn’t know how to cook. So, the other does that.

Alastor took a fine wine from the basket and it got Husk’s attention.

“Gimme some.”

“Ah ah ah! You need to ask politely.” Alastor smirked and snickered while waving a finger at him.

What the fuck?! Now, Alastor was the one having the fun. Okay, Husk can do it. He can be fuckin’ polite. When he needs to. He finished chewing and gulped. Took a deep breath. And asked. Politely.

“Please?”

“Please what?” Alastor teased some more.

“Gimme some wine?”

“Wrong! Try again dear.” Al chuckled.

“Please gimme some wine?”

“Can?”

Husk raised a brow and sighed. This jackass is really making fun of him. HAHAHA.

Fuck.

He cleared his throat and.

“Can you please gimme some wine?”

“Now, that wasn’t so hard to ask politely now is it?” Alastor laughed and held a hand on his chest then got the two glasses he brought.

He gave the glass and they cheered. They finished their meal in the comfortable moment of silence. Alastor put the used utensils back inside the basket. He drank a glass of wine and ate his share of Jambalaya. The bottle was now on Husk’s hand. The man is a drunkard but can hold his liquor.

“Al?” Husk put down the bottle away from accident spilling.

“Hmm?” Alastor just hummed in response while arranging the insides of the basket.

Husk took a box on the other side which was out of Alastor’s sight. The box was small. It has a red ribbon tied unto it. The box itself is red, too. Different shades of red with nice patterns covering it making the box look simple yet elegant. Alastor looked at his direction and moved slowly towards him.

“It’s a gift. Uh… Happy 1st Anniversary!” Husk shyly exclaimed handing out the box while scratching the back of his neck with the other hand. Looking away from his lover’s gaze not wanting to let him see the blush on his face.

Alastor didn’t expect that. But he did know today’s special occasion. He thought Husk would just go with his job and come home late as usual. Instead he spent the day together with him. The gesture made Al’s cheeks heat up. He looked up at Husk’s face then to the present in hand and then back up before taking the gift.

“T-thank you,” that’s the second stutter today. “What’s inside?”

“Why not open it dumbass?” Husk is too flattered to contain himself with an idiotic smile.

The radio host untied the ribbon and opened the box. Much to his surprise. His face lit up and his smile went very wide if it’s possible to show his happiness. It was a red bow tie, the one he was looking at the clothes parlor every time he walks home. He would stop by and make time to watch at it through the window glass displaying at the front. He hadn’t seen the thing a few days ago which made him think that someone bought it before he could have. It was not expensive that he can afford but he likes to wear the bow from his very first broadcast. Besides, the old one looks decent still so he thought he would buy a new one in later time but that red bow tie caught his eye. It made him regret not to buy it but now it’s in a gift from his lover. Even better!

“Oh, thank you! Thank you! It’s wonderful!” He squealed and throw his hands around Husk, squeezed him and nuzzled his face like Husk was a damn cat. Husk just chuckled at the affection but didn’t hug back, aware of the touch.

“How about you try it on? I really think it looks very good on you,” Husk can’t help the proud smile on his face.

Good thing Alastor wore a polo today, he can’t wait to try the thing on that his fingers stumbled to wear it. He tried over and over again but was unsuccessful and stopped struggling. Looking down on the disheveled bow on his neck, he sighed defeatedly. The other noticed it and got near.

“Here, let me hel-” Husk got imbalanced with the wrong way he twisted his body on Alastor’s direction. Reaching out to the undone bow tie he leaned hard that he fell before he could stop himself. His hands landed on the ground thankfully not hitting the other. Yet his lover hit his back to the ground.

“Ow!”

Husk stumbled down on Alastor accidentally. Al was laying on his back with his arms on either side of his head, palms open. Husk on top of him looking at him. Their eyes met and the world stopped once again. The moment was the only thing that exists. The crazy tornado in Alastor’s insides whirled again. The beating of his heart deafening him and his cheeks blushing, too. He didn’t move a muscle. He didn’t dare tear his gaze away on the one above him.

Husk waited a few more seconds. To his surprise, Alastor didn’t move. Those round eyes, he’s being drawn to. He looked closer merely inches away face to face. But woke up when Al whispered in a shaky tone, “Husker.”

Husk then sat up. Scrambling off of Alastor making sure not to touch him. “Oh, ah. Sorry ‘bout that. I was just tryin’ to help.” Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

Alastor then wiped his clothes with his hands from the non-existing dust composing himself. He cleared his throat but didn’t say a word. A few awkward seconds ticked by then Al sighed, and leaned on Husk. He hummed in thought before cupping Husk’s face and pressed his lips closing his eyes. Husk’s brain short-circuited, shocked by the sudden action. He stared at his lover’s face whose eyes were shut before closing his. He couldn’t believe it. Alastor making the first move. WOW! What did he just do to take such a reward? Their lips weren’t moving against each other given by the other’s lack of experience. Experience?

Wait.

Al doesn’t know how to kiss. He hadn’t kissed anyone! This is his first kiss! Husk’s chest felt with warmth. Proud of himself to be the first.

First touch. First kiss. First love.

He felt like the luckiest man in the world. Even if they have been together for a year now, he never pushed Alastor to do what lovers do. Going at a slow pace. And now is another dream come true!

When Alastor pulled away, Husk then saw his flushed face. He looked down shyly and Husk smirked. He’s just so proud right now. He looked at him with question in his eyes that when they met their gazes Alastor looked down immediately, embarrassed of what he has done. Before Husk could ask, Al combed his bangs to his ear with a finger and bashfully interrupted the silence, “Yes, t-that was my first kiss.” The third stutter folks!

“It’s my anniversary gift since we’ve been together for a year and I felt ready to give addition to what we do. And I knew you’ve been dying for it so I don’t want to let you wait any longer darling,” Alastor’s face is as red as a tomato.

Husk then hugged him and Al flinched to the touch but relaxed. Wrapping around the other in return. Husk whispered in his ear, “Thank you. I love you so so much!”

Alastor giggled, “I love you too, Husker.”

“Can we do it again?”

“Yes, but you have to inform me first. I’m so new to any of this.”

“How about you kiss me goodbye and when I arrive home? Please?” Husk kissed his lover’s forehead.

“Someone’s being polite,” Al chuckled. “I can agree to that arrangement.

“May I kiss you now?”

“You may.”

Husk was the one who touched Al’s face to look up at him. Face still beat red when they closed the gap. Husk kissed the other in his own way, which resulted to be sloppy but that was alright. He could teach Al in a matter of time. He just had to enjoy the cute kiss for now.

With the sealed arrangement, Husk’s heart jumped with glee. Alastor is making progress in getting comfortable with him even more. He could never be happier.

More years to come and they’ll be happy forever after.

Chapter Text

A single stone stood at the backyard of Alastor’s home. It was beneath an oak tree, well settled at the center on the ground. Surrounded by plain grasses wide. Every now and then, Alastor would visit. Every year he would bring roses. Red roses. The only flowers that grew from their garden when he was young. He planted and raised some in the front of his house in reminder of the sweet memories he had.

Today is no special day but here he was standing in front of the grave.

He wasn’t the one to tell what seems to be the problem. With Husker around, he still doesn’t open up easily. He kept everything bottled up. Alastor is a man of suppressed emotions other than the act he kept on playing for his entire living existence. But he shows his love and trust ever so often. He does have friends. Mimzy and Rosie from the bar Husk manages and a young woman who makes the radio station spotless, Niffty. They were the ones whom he truly trusts because he had the strong feeling of it but there were the few others who were merely just passes by.

Clearly, something was bothering him.

He’s done with his morning walk and stopped right there. The cold morning air makes everywhere floating with thin fog. He’s been standing there for a few minutes in silence breathing calmly while gathering his words. He just doesn’t know how to talk about it. He and Husker have been together for years now but it shouldn’t be a big deal not to tell about it, right?

Honestly, he really wanted to talk about it.

Alastor then brushed his bangs, took a deep breath and sighed.

“Bonjour, Momma. I know it’s too early but I think I have been wondering something up these past few weeks and it’s long gone overdue.” His gaze fell on to his feet before continuing.

“It’s about us. Yes, dear Husker and I. It’s just that… we’ve been together for years and I’ve been wondering when will he introduce me to his family?” He looked at the grave hesitantly.

“I mean, if you would be here surely I will inform you about our relationship right away. You’ll like him, Momma! He’s a true gentleman even though he’s smart mouth says vulgar words, sometimes hihi. He’s tall and strong! Stronger than me, yes. And he’s got a nice body built up. He takes me out on romantic meetings uh… dates! He buys me anything that surprises me, he joins me with hunting deer but he’s not a good cook haha! He takes me out on camping, under the beautiful stars. Oh, how we enjoyed those nights, we watch movies together and and…” Alastor trailed off because he felt his cheeks heat up and he went silent for seconds.

Alastor held his arm on the other side squeezing it as if he’s too shy to look at his mother and averted his gaze. He gulped.

“We… we make out, in other places, sometimes BUT I am not careless, Maman. I am very aware of the people called “homophobies”-giving emphasis while quoting his fingers on air.

It’s true. Since at the time, having relationship with the same sex was a big NO. I’m not really sure if they already know the word ‘homophobies’. Discrimination was everywhere to anyone.

So, they kept their relationship into secrecy but sometimes they can’t contain themselves when they miss each other’s presence. There were times when they would steal moments behind closed doors.

They never get pass more than kissing though.

One time was when Husk stopped by at the radio station. It was a Wednesday and the bar had not a lot of costumers in so he decided to go fetch his lover at an early time. When he arrived at Alastor’s private room where he broadcasts, he was met by a radio host enjoying his own time entertaining with the audience’s song requests. Husk took a stool and sat on the corner while listening until the light turned red and went Off Air. He didn’t notice that because he was lost in listening that he closed his eyes. Then suddenly, Alastor straddled him. “WHAT THE FUCK?!” Husk almost had a heart attack but Alastor didn’t move an inch in his position. Those long limbs wrapped around him. Their gaze met for a moment before Alastor closed his eyes and meet their lips together while holding the back of the other’s head. Husk let Alastor lead the make out session. They made out at Alastor’s working place. The kiss wasn’t as sloppy as the first time. In fact, he’s on road to being a good kisser. “You done with them?” Husk asked between kisses and by ‘them’ he meant the audience on broadcast. The sound of their lips dancing together filled the room. Alastor then stopped and answered, “I said I’ll be back shortly.” He booped Husk’s nose. “Cheeky bastard,” Husk chuckled. Then the light turned green and said On Air. They kissed lovingly one last time before Alastor went back to the mic and cleared his throat before speaking into it. “Oh, my dear audience I spent my break time splendidly~” He cooed at almost in a seductive tone and locked eyes with Husk who stiffened at the corner. Fuck, that was hot.

Another one was when they made out at the men’s bathroom where they quickly hid at one of the cubicle/cells. They clung into each other gladly locked door of it. Poor Husk can’t have enough space together with Alastor. Someone entered since it was at a restaurant. They quietly made out in the cell even though there’s someone out there.

Jerks.

Then the last time when they almost got caught was when Husk almost kissed Al in front of the public.

That time, Alastor came to the bar and Husk was drunk. It was late at night and Alastor was worried that Husk was too late to come home so Al decided to check on him at the bar. Husk was drunk because he was challenged to drink cup after cup that his coworkers poured. Alastor waited for less people to be around Husk who fell asleep on the bar counter before he approached him. He shook him to wake up and groggily he did. “Husk, let’s get you home! You drank yourself too much again. Thank goodness you’re just here. Come along now, dear. Let’s go.” Alastor isn’t favorable with crowded places yet he tolerates it for Husk. Husk slowly stood up but failed to lean on the counter. He stumbled a bit at the action. Alastor caught him who almost lost his balance. “Husker!” Alastor scold in a whisper with venom in his tone anger building up but completely lost it when Husk pinned him on the wall. Where did the wall come from? Damn, they’re inside the bar counter and there were costumers sitting across witnessing the scene with drinks in hand. What a show. Husk has pinned Alastor with both hands on the wall which made Al stuck and stiffen like a deer in headlights. Husk then cupped his face with a hand and moved their faces so close to each other at the point where their breaths mixing together. The attention of the whole crowd was drawn unto them. Most people cringe at the sight but some didn’t care. Mimzy and Rosie were there, worry written all over their faces. But everyone else seemed to fade away and Alastor looked into Husk’s eyes. It seemed like only the two of them existed at the moment. Just the two of them. Sparkles everywhere. Lights beaming. Heart hammering in his chest and butterflies flutter in his stomach. Hardly, he fought not to blush in front of everyone. Alastor didn’t take his eyes off of Husk’s. But Husk’s gaze trailed down to Al’s lips, lifted his chin up and got closer until a few centimeters away. Their lips almost brushed each other. But. Then Husk puked down on Alastor just in time when he looked down. Everyone gasped in unison. He’s hands clinging on Alastor’s shoulders while pouring out staining Al’s attire. Alastor then glared daggers at his lover who was very drunk that he vomited. It was very humiliating but thanks to that the intimate scene washed away quickly. That night was a close one. By the morning Husk heard a looooooong lecture.

“Besides, I’ve got a reputation to keep. I will not let loose of my title that easily. And that’s the best part of Husker, he respects every decision I make. Oh, how I feel so loved, Maman.”

“I know, I know. I should’ve told my beloved as you would always say to me but I’m too shy to tell him. Heh.” Alastor has never been shy. He’s straightforward but he wants Husk to make the action instead of asking him.

“Patience. I will wait,” telling himself over again. He hugged himself not because of the cold wind but to breathe in and sigh again.

“I’m being ridiculous,” he muttered to himself. “I’m going to get some coffee now, Maman. Thank you very much for listening! I feel a little bit lighter in the chest. See you later, Ma.” He then walked to go to the kitchen through the back door.

Husk woke up too early. Usually, he would be sleeping until past 7 in the morning. It’s just struck 6. With all his will, he pulled himself out of bed and noticed Alastor not by his side. Of course, Alastor is a morning person. He must be taking his daily walks, Husk thought. He draped a hand on his face and yawned.

He walked to the kitchen but didn’t expect to be very quiet that Alastor hadn’t notice him. He could see his lover outside standing in front of the grave. He turned on the tap but wasn’t noticed still. Until he saw the expression Alastor was making.

He looked sad.

Worried.

Shy?

But the point is he wasn’t…

Smiling.

Oh shit. What did he do?

Alastor didn’t look like Alastor. Seems like he got a pretty big problem.

Husk moved quietly with effort to get to the corner near where the other stood outside. At that location he could hear Alastor’s ‘conversation’ with his mother. And sure did, Husk heard all of it. He then sighed. He’s going to do it. Fuck. It will take him all the courage in the world to tell his father about their secret relationship. But fine. Whatever. If that will make his Alastor happy. He will do it.

After hearing everything he went back to their room and fell back asleep thinking of how he would deal this shit with his father.

Well, just take another nap and we’ll solve world’s problem later.

Notes:

It's kinda short? Maybe?

Chapter Text

Days passed since Husk had witnessed his lover’s exchange at the grave and it got his brain to work on how to approach the matter with his father. He didn’t drink himself to forget it but he deserves the headache for not introducing Al. Hmph. Though Alastor look pretty much normal every day after that.

He would do his daily routine smoothly, from his early morning walks to cuddle nights with Husker. Cooking breakfast before Husk would wake up, leave the dishes for the other to wash, kiss goodbye to each other before going to their respective destinations. Enjoying their dates like nothing happened. Like there’s nothing bothering him.

Well, to Husker? Yes.

That bothered Husk.

A lot.

Those thinking days felt like a very long time. Has it been just days? Cause Husk didn’t think so. Well shit.

His initial plan was to go to his father without Alastor knowing. Actually, that’s just the first part. And the only thing that popped up. Maybe he’ll be gone for days to find a right moment to talk it out with the old man. His shitty brain can’t come up how so, whatever. Just tell him the truth.

It’s now or never, Husk thought. “Hey, Al. I wanna talk about umm… something?” He said while taking out the used utensils from the table to the sink. Alastor was still in the kitchen with him and they just finished breakfast. After putting on the sink, he looked at Al who was immediately beside him now face to face.

“What is it, darling? You can tell me anything. You know that, right?” Says the younger man in response. Reaching up on Husk’s bow tie to fix it while humming.

Tell anything my ass, Al. You didn’t even tell me what bothered you, ya little bastard. He took Alastor’s hands from fixing his bow and held it in his chest. He looked at those with a little tint of red eyes of his lover and took a deep breath, “It’s something important.” That was all he managed to say. But with all the seriousness in his expression.

“Oh… I would be very attentive to such but can’t it wait until tonight? We don’t want to be late for our businesses,” Alastor blinked and gave Husk a small smile. A genuine one. But he didn’t take his hands off where it was held.

Husk sighed in relief. Okay that was good news. He told Alastor and Alastor says to spill it for later which means he can have more time to plan for the day on how to talk about his lover’s wish. Yeah, he can do it.

Husk just nodded and remembered that he still took hostages of Alastor’s hands. So, he kissed both knuckles at the same time before letting them go. Alastor unsatisfied moved closer to Husk and looked up with pleading eyes making a silent request and wrapped his arms on Husk’s torso. Those pretty doe eyes. How mesmerizing. How fucking cute. The man understood and gave him a kiss, on the lips this time. And went on their separate ways afterwards.

The day went uneventful to Husk so his mind was busy with calculations. How the hell would he tell his father about their relationship? All he knew was they were best friends. His father has met Alastor when Al and Husk were just kids, probably even Alastor can’t remember the face of Husk’s dad.

It was already late afternoon and Husk was on his way to the radio station still his mind wandering off looking for solutions. His thoughts were interrupted when his phone buzzed. Dammit. He stopped walking at the sidewalk when his phone buzzed the second time.

Oh, great.

Biggest variable of the problem.

It’s his father.

He hesitated to pick up the phone at first because he might say something. He took a deep breath to calm himself and proceeded to answer the call.

BINGO!

But it was both GOOD news and BAD news.

“So, your father called you for an emergency business meeting and you’ll be gone for a WHOLE WEEK? Did I hear that right?” Alastor asked baffled and sad at the notion of Husk being gone for seven days. That’s just too long to be alone. He spent most of his life with the man.

“Yes, sweetheart. I’ll be back next Wednesday. I promise I’ll bring you anything you want?” Husk said in assurance.

“Wednesday? How I love that day…” Alastor whispered quietly to himself and chuckled. Of course, it was the day when they first made out in his hosting room. From then on, he liked the day itself. “But, for seven days?”

“I know right? He didn’t even tell me the fuck was going on,” Husk huffed with a grunt half pretending to be unhappy and half serious. Now, he really has a valid reason to go to his father to tell him about their relationship. Although he’s gonna miss his lover but it was he’s only chance.

Husk didn’t want Alastor to know in the first place even though something in his gut told him it was not good to go but it’s he’s only chance for a reason. Tomorrow is a Wednesday. Alastor helped Husk with packing his things before going to bed. Soon they both had countless kisses and cuddles because both knew how much they would miss each other.

WEDNESDAY.

Husk kissed Alastor one last time before they part their ways yet again. One to the usual working place, the other to his father next town.

Husk arrived before it was noon. The place was classy with jazzy music in the air. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful not like other bars where there were flapper girls (no offense Mimzy) and loud banging music.

Okay. Now he’s here. How to greet father? Of course, bonjour, maybe? Oh, shit. This is it. First day.

A tall man with broad shoulders came face to face with him. He’s old seeing by the color of his greyish hair unlike Husk who looked young despite being greyed-hair. They almost have the same height. The man looks younger than his real age, must be experiences from fights or trainings. He’s a big man. Toned body, sharp eyes, Young face, brownish eyes, light tan skin and no wrinkles. Well?

Before Husk could say anything, he beat him to it.

“Son! Glad to see you so soon! Damn, never thought you’d be here so fuckin’ early,” Husk’s father said with a smile while putting a hand on his son’s shoulder. Now you know where the swearing came from.

Husk hugged his Dad in return, “I know Pa, I fucking missed you too.” He honestly did. It’s been so long.

His Pa hugged him back and Husk closed his eyes while squeezed his father. For the first time in a very long time he has got to see his father again, still thankful he’s still alive and there for him even far away. How his father cared much even though he’s not the best but at least he’s always there to support his son. Since he was young. Even from far away his father never dared to abandon the family.

He silently prayed that his father would support his secret relationship too. He opened his eyes remembering his mission. Much to his surprise, he’s eyes went wide with the sight of a woman. He didn’t see her with his father earlier.

A beautiful woman wearing a fit black dress showing off her nice curve. A long gown emphasizing her slender form. She was wearing black shiny heels to pair the plain dress and a hat so wide almost could make a distance from others when standing near. She’s carrying a lady’s purse that is also black and shiny. She’s tall and slim. She honestly is.

She smiled at Husk with her eyes shut as a greeting maybe. That fucking smile was very familiar. Husk waited for the woman to open her eyes while still sticking to his father, his head on the old man’s shoulder. And when she did, her eyes widened and her smile went small.

“Husk?”

“Rosie?”

“What are you doing here?”

“What are you doing here?”

They both were shocked and confused. And said those at the same time. Actually, Husk was shocked and Rosie was confused. Explanation later.

“Ah, I see you know my daughter, really popular to men. My honeypie sure is a beauty,” a hand made its way to Rosie’s shoulder revealing of a man almost Husk’s father’s age but not taller than.

“’Honeypie?’ Father, I’m not a little girl anymore,” Rosie crossed her arms and looked at his ‘father.’ “I’m a grown woman,” she huffed but his father just chuckled.

“So, ya know each other, son?” Husk’s Pa let go of the embrace and face the other company while patting his son’s back.

“I-I ugh…” Shit! He didn’t know Rosie was the daughter of Mr. Jyru Gabri, the owner of the best liquors in the world! Their family’s business partner. His Pa’s best pal. They supply liquor from every bar they own.

Why did Mr. Gabri tag Rosie along with him?

And another shit, what was this fucking emergency business meeting about?

Goddamit!

Was he supposed to say that they’re friends? Her father didn’t seem to know. Fucking great for the simple question he couldn’t answer. The situation is just bullshit!

“Yes, Mr. Roche. We do know each other,” Rosie broke down Husk’s internal panic which was a relief- thanks- then appeared her smile she continued, “We met one time at a bar next town only a few days ago. I’ve been here for months and found out that I got fond of the bar there. Was it one of your own? I presume. And I only knew him by the name of Husk.”

Did she just fuckin’ lied? Okay, the last part was true, no one knew Husk was the son of Mr. Romi Roche- owner of popular casinos- except Alastor, but she did fucking lie. Husk rose an eyebrow showing his unimpressed expression of poker. Now, what the shit really is going on?

There were a few seconds of silence when Rosie just got stuck with her smile and Husk’s raised brow at a staring contest until Mr. Roche cleared his throat and whispered in a scold manner to his son, “Is that how you fuckin’ greet a woman, MR. Husk?!”

Oh, yea right. Shit.

“Oh, I’m sorry Miss Rosie,” this is shit.

Husk reached Rosie’s free hand and bowed down to kiss it. He’s used to doing this given that he has a lover though he didn’t find it unpleasant. She’s his friend and maybe she knows what’s going on that’s why she lied on purpose? Before Husk could get back to standing up properly and letting go of the hand, a light flashed.

He gracefully let Rosie’s hand go before he asked, “The fuck was that for?” and looked over his Pa.

“For documentation of course! Wha’dya think the children of world’s biggest business partners finally met and be the next generation of our businesses? Right, pal?”

“Yes, we can’t wait to discuss with both of you,” Mr. Gabri nodded in agreement.

So, they’re the ones who will handle the next generation. Husk thought that with Rosie they could be good business partners since they are already friends. Yup! That’s what he thought.

“How about I’ll accompany Mr. Husk to our own suite while you two get along, father?” Rosie interrupted switching gazes with the 2 old men referring his father to spend time with Mr. Roche, Husk’s dad.

“That sounds smart honeypie,” her father replied and turn around to get along with his pal walking away.

“Again, not a child. Let’s go, Husk.” Rosie turned to leave with Husk following with his baggage immediately. Husk was totally having a hundred questions right now. He didn’t know where to start. There was silence until a good far distance from the two old men when Rosie broke the air.

“Ok, I now know that you’re the son of Mr. Roche and you didn’t tell me even as a friend also you didn’t know I’m the daughter of Mr. Gabri so that’s a tie. But from what I see you clearly do not know why you’re here, do you?” Rosie started the conversation while walking.

“Nah, my Pa said it was an emergency business meeting so I gotta leave sooner,” Husk just shrugged like it’s not a big deal minding his main goal.

Rosie stopped her tracks but her back still faced to Husk. Her eyebrows curved in worry yet the other couldn’t see her face which made Husk stop walking and got confused.

“We were arranged for business. I am to be engaged with the son of my father’s business pal. I am to be engaged with…- Rosie sighed heavily-…you.”

Husk’s blood ran cold. This wasn’t what he expected. This just got things messy. He almost dropped his bags from his grips. His face a dead giveaway that he truly did not want this. He wanted to say something but his thoughts were running wild. He gritted his teeth and tightened his grip- he’s very irritated right now. This. Is. Total. Bullshit!

Now that he’s here the confession would be a breeze but here he was to be engaged to his friend no less and their parents didn’t know they knew each other. What the hell did he’s father think setting him up? He’s a grown up! He can’t just marry for business. Marry? Fuck that! He’s in a relationship. A secret relationship. With all the curses in different languages came shuffling in his thoughts.

Husk took a deep breath and, “We need to talk.”

“But first let’s be in our room.”-Rosie.

Our room?” Husk rose an eyebrow questioning.

“Yes, our room since they thought we should get along for a week. Don’t get me wrong Husk. I know you don’t want this as much as I don’t and you’re right. We really need to talk,” Rosie continued to walk.

Ahh, that explains why for a WEEK. Such a long time.

“Geez, an elephant sat on my head just now it fucking hurts! So, what are we now? Damn fiancé?” Husk rolled his eyes and asked sarcastically.

“Yes,” Rosie answered flatly. Yup she really didn’t want this either.

Great! This is just ugh!

As they entered their room at the 3rd floor of the establishment, Rosie locked the door to make sure that no one will interrupt their conversation while Husk just tossed his bags near the side of a king size bed. He was almost blinded by how the room looked like it’s for couples. The room was big, there are two cabinets, a big mirror, an open door where you can open to see outside below with floral curtains. There’s a small table with two chairs beside. It was like a little home only without kitchen but big enough to be a bedroom. The room looked romantic. The king size bed making Husk more irritated because it means they had to sleep together on it. HGHLWYERIBGL54TEB4WPJFGBKJASGFERIUG!

Husk draped a hand on his face and squinted his eyes. He just wanted to bang his head to make the pain go away. He felt a weight on the bed where he sat after taking in the surroundings then he looked at her with an unimpressed frown.

“Let me explain, dear.” That reminded him of Alastor. She and Al were friends close too. Husk just pursed his lips and crossed his arms letting Rosie continue.

“As I said earlier, I know you hate this as much as I do. And I’ve been arguing my father but can’t turn it. He said it’s to save the business. Our fathers’ businesses. Husk, they’re growing old and they need we are next in line. I do understand the situation but I would never agree to this kind arrangement.”

That was nice! Rosie was on the NO side so Husk thought they could made up a plan to ruin the arrangement. Husk nod thoughtfully and was about to say something.

“And I don’t want to get Alastor hurt,” she added.

Wait a minute. What?

What did she mean by that? Does she know? How? They told no one!

“The fuck did you just say?”

“Oh, come on Husk! You know what I mean! You and my dear close friend are getting together, aren’t you? Both of you love each other and I don’t want to get in the way. I don’t want him get hurt,” Rosie looked down worried all the time.

Husk can’t argue to that. They were not getting together thay are already together in a relationship. Maybe, he can trust her with this information. “Is it that obvious?”

Rosie just chuckled while Husk sighed in relief.

Rosie told him that yes it was obvious every time Husk and Alastor would make goo-goo eyes to each other but she never mentioned it. She just put two and two together. More likely, they looked happy together and she never has seen Husk soften his features than with Alastor. They go home together or Husk would off work early to fetch Al wherever he might be. She never told anyone especially not Mimzy, that short girl was head over heels over Alastor. Rosie didn’t want to hurt any of them so she kept it to herself.

Husk and Rosie agreed to pretend that they would get along as “fiancés” in front of their dads and to keep up the façade for three days. During the time, he would also plan on spilling the beans. Ugh. It was such a pain in the ass.

How on earth would Alastor react to this?

THURSDAY.

Alastor just arrived from work late in the afternoon. He took his keys to open the front door which he locked. He felt himself lonely since he set a foot inside the house. A day has passed when his darling Husker had left.

It felt like an eternity.

He was very accustomed to his lover’s presence. All the years he had been living alone washed away with the past when he randomly killed and ate human flesh. When he got into the relationship, secret relationship, he vowed not to kill anymore. If he wouldn’t kill fellow humans, he wouldn’t eat any of human meat. Husk always feel nauseous just thinking how Alastor just pulled it off. Though he hunts deer still.

Most of his free time were spent with Husker which made him no time to think about murder. And everytime it would cross his mind, Husk called out on it. How his lover reads his mind was beyond his own understanding.

He felt happy, content and well-loved. He didn’t want anything more than the love Husker has given him. Only to love him because he loves Husker so. Love was very a big deal to Alastor. He only considered the love from his mother, no one else. In fact, he didn’t even think he was even capable of.

Oh, love. How he missed Husker dear.

Now that Husk was out he has a lot of free time to himself. Yesterday, he tend to cleaning the  house but of course, there was not much to clean because he never misses a spot whenever he took care of things. Afterwards, he read a book. One from his old collections in a wooden shelf he refused to dispose. He cooked, ate, bath and slept since there was nothing left to do.

Right now, he’s pouring himself a coffee and planned on reading the today’s newspaper. Yes, he knew the news but not all of it and he enjoys reading the newspaper. It was sent in the morning but he goes out so reading it would the time he comes home.

Walking out from the kitchen with his cup of coffee, he eased his way on the couch and shifted comfortably. He took a sip and sighed before he picked up the material with his free hand. The cup was in the air on the other hand.  A few seconds of humming and reading then the cup shattered and staining the floor with the black liquid. Yet he didn’t flinch nor care at the moment.

His widened gaze was fixed on the text. With his other hand free, he gripped on the paper in both sides and leaned closer with brows furrowed as if he can’t read clearly on the news with his reading glasses on.

“MR. HUSK ROCHE MEETS FUTURE FIANCÉ, MISS ROSIE GABRI”

He read it over and over and over again and every time he did his heart sank slowly but harshly being pulled by the gravity of the earth.

His insides began to form a knot which felt strange and very uncomfortable. He was about to shed a tear but calmed himself. He closed his eyes.

No, Husker wouldn’t do this. It might be a mistake on the news! His love would never do this to him. It’s impossible. Husker never lied to him. He was on a business meeting. That’s what Al thought and all the good he told himself to believe in.

The pain of his heart sinking didn’t go away but still sank slower this time. His chest hurts he almost forgot to breath. He calmed himself down with his eyes closed.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Then he opened his eyes again believing he misread.

A mistake.

“MR. HUSK ROCHE MEETS FUTURE FIANCÉ, MISS ROSIE GABRI”

He read again but quickly wandered his eyes off the disturbing statement. A photo below it caught his eye. Then his heart stopped beating and it crashed. Faster than the cup on the floor. Bruttally accelerated to the depths. His watery eyes gave in and tears rolled down his face.

It really was Husk.

On the photo, Husk was bowing down kissing at the back of a hand of a tall lady.

The sight made Alastor’s stomach turn into a whirlpool. Twisting his insides in the most painful way he once felt when his mother died. His breathing was ragged and he couldn’t speak with the lump on his throat that came out of nowhere.

With his blurry vision due to the tears, he looked closely to confirm the ‘Rosie’ woman.

Indeed.

It was her.

A dear close friend.

His smile not present but replaced by a very hurtful expression with his eyes squinted until his eyebrows meet. The world came to a blur.

He wanted to speak.

He wanted to ask questions.

He wanted to scream.

He wanted to breath.

But he could only sob.

He felt sad. Very sad.

He felt hurt. Very hurt.

Crushed.

Enveloped by misery.

He felt…

betrayed.

Once found the right term for the cause of the sudden sorrow he did managed to scream. Alastor screamed his cries like he never cried before. His tears streamed like waterfalls he couldn’t stop. He clenched on the paper harder and held it in his chest. Holding the evidence while it catches every tear that fell. He curled himself on the big couch, clutching the wet paper until it ripped. He didn’t care.

After a few hours of pure emotional agony. His cries died down into sobs. He didn’t move from his place while staring into nothingness until his tears dried out. He blinked once, twice. There was nothing left.

He breathed once again. Letting the oxygen circulate to his pulsing aching brain. Though he’s breaths were shaky.

He looked like a mess.

His hair disheveled. His eyes sore. His nose red. His mouth in a frown. And his face wet with tears and dried ones. Sweat all over him. It was very not normal to him.

After gathering the proper functions of his physical, he bent to the floor to gather the broken glass. He remembered it. He was a total perfectionist. He can’t leave dirt on the floor!

Alastor picked a broken piece and immediately let go of it. He felt a little sting but didn’t react other than letting it go. He looked at his hand and opened his palm.

There was blood.

He stared at the damage for a long moment then a smile crept up to his face. It didn’t last long because he threw a laugh. A maniacal laugh. Somewhat menacing. He laughed like nothing was wrong and that he sounded like an insane person. Afterwards, the creepy smile sealed his face while observing the red sipping out the cut of his skin. He clenched his hand while watching his own blood dripped joining the black liquid rippling. He chuckled evilly. His eyes flashing the red tint they possess.

This is going to be a long night.

Chapter Text

Oh, a long night it was.

Currently, Alastor’s removing his blood-soaked gloves while humming a happy somewhat creepy tune. He brought a finger from a gloveless hand to wipe the red liquid from his favorite knife and tasted it, savoring it.

He’s not hungry though.

Maybe he really lost it. He’s merry killing spree went too far and he did not even eat once! Not any one! (‘anyone’ haha) Just a taste of the mixed blood from the poor souls. Innocent souls. He killed anyone tonight. Just anyone. It was very stubborn of him.

He didn’t care who they were.

He didn’t care what they’ve done. Whether right or wrong

He didn’t care if they were men or women.

He didn’t care if they have families or not.

He didn’t care if their bodies were littered everywhere.

They were just strangers.

Poor souls.

He didn’t care how careless he was. It was very unlikely of Alastor.

He was blinded with his own rage. He was heartbroken. He was truly unsure of what to do, no, not yet. He went mad and insane but he managed to stop himself and come back to his senses before sunrise. Every kill makes him calm down little by little but none of each made him feel better. He didn’t even enjoy the screams and agony which were supposed to be entertainment. The memories were a bit hazy.

All he knew was, he went on a rampage. He didn’t remember how.

It’s breaking dawn.

It was like an automatic stopwatch to make him halt in his brutal activities then retreat to his humble abode.

While cleaning himself up, he thought of a solution, a plan. How to get rid of this heartache. Killing Husker would never be one of his options. He’s mine! I can’t lose him. He’s mine and only mine.

No. He love Husker oh so much, Alastor would never betray the love given by his dearest. He was finally happy. He found himself fulfilled and contented when the man came into his life. He’s not going to take it away. The joy of killing can never beyond compare the love Husker had offered and the wonders he never knew he was capable of feeling nor receiving.

Though now, Alastor felt betrayed.

What to do? What to do?

First things first.

“It’s Friday, maybe I should inform others that I would take my leave for not feeling well. Good golly! It would be weekend then. Perfect, perfect timing!” Alastor talked to himself slowly with a grimace before turning up into a cheery bastard he is.

After getting himself rid of stains and became physically refreshed, he went to a stand androtate the numbers on the telephone (not sure if this kind at that time) ‘contacting’ the head of the radio tower. Only waited for a few rings.

“Bonjour! Mr. Abby, this is Alastor speaking. I’m sorry to inform you that I do not feel well. Can you please update my tabs and so can I have my leave for today? I will be sure to be back on Monday,” he charmingly spoke to the phone.

Waiting for a few seconds he heard a sweet woman’s voice instead.

“Oh, I’m so sorry Mr. Alastor. There is no one yet here in the tower but I’d be happy to relay your message! This is Niffty speaking. I’ve been cleaning the offices, including yours, and I’m cleaning his right now and since I heard the phone rang I thought I should really answer it thinking it might be important! It’s the manager’s office after all! But isn’t it too early? Oh, good morning by the way!” Niffty answered very energetically.

Alastor blinked but caught on the speedy talk Niffty had reply.

“Ah, darling Niffty. Thank you for passing the information in advance! Indeed, it’s a tad too early I may have forgotten. Pray tell, why are you up so early then dear? Have you eaten breakfast?”

On the other side, Niffty hesitated to answer which caused the dead silence before answering, “Not yet, I haven’t Mr. Alastor. BUT it’s okay!”

Alastor didn’t accept the last statement, twirling the wire attached he chuckled, “Oh darling, maybe I can offer you some! Well, I haven’t cook yet. I believe it would be just in time for the meal when you arrive.”

Niffty lit up at the offer since it’s very rare for ‘Mr.’ Alastor to share moments with her and she’s thankful they were friends even if she looks like a kid and him an uncle or big brother of some sort.

“Thank you, Mr. Alastor! Don’t worry, I will be there after cleaning this office and then the other side and beside the other, there’s the stairs, windows…” Niffty began to mutter her cleaning list.

“Well, I suggest you continue your chores, darling! Breakfast is best served when hot,” Alastor said with a sing-song voice. Maybe talking with Niffty felt a little bit better.

“Of course, Sir. Bye!” and the line was cut.

Alastor gave a deep sigh before putting the phone back it’s base. Maybe he needed company right now. He didn’t know what to do.

Usually, he would go to Rosie since he saw her as a mother figure.

But she’s with Husk.

Not again!

Alastor felt a pain in his chest slowly building up just thinking about them trying to cut his breathe. So, before it went to drag him down again, he inhaled a deep one to calm whatever was going on inside him before heading to the kitchen to cook breakfast.

Jambalaya. He deserved to have a very well meal this not so fine morning.

When he got his full attention at chopping the ingredients, something came up his mind and stopped humming anything when cooking.

What if…?

His chopping came to a halt when those two dangerous hopeful words went ringing in his thoughts. He hates to admit it but what if…

What if Niffty could help him get rid of this aching?

It wouldn’t mean that he couldn’t do it himself but he realized that when conversing with Niffty made him a little bit better so why not try to propose the idea of helping him get rid of it totally! (Of course, not in a romantic way)

Hah! It was Alastor’s turn to lit up. He would share dark plans with Niffty knowing the fact that the little darling was good at cleaning mess!

He would take her to his side.

Because if she disagreed, Alastor knows just what to do but friends help each other and he was sure Niffty would really help. He felt it.

After coming to a decision, he merrily cooked breakfast and not long after the little darling came knocking out the door.

😥

Husk had been sipping his morning coffee slowly, he chose to enjoy the taste of its bitterness in this not so fine morning. Again.

The television was on but he wasn’t paying attention at it. Not caring much since he had his own thoughts whirling.

For the past nights, Husker made himself hug a human long pillow. Damn, he missed Al so much.

Oh, what the hell… He didn’t sleep well, no sir! He kept on waking up in the middle of the night sometimes a little panic luckily having the sight of the squished pillow in his embrace instead of his woman friend. Thank God for that one. Also, thankful he lied on the king size bed with pile of pillows as a wall to separate himself from Rosie.

Speaking of Rosie, she was in the bathroom doing morning stuff much like Alastor. They were both morning persons but since Husk is here, he had to wake up early too. He heard a knock on the door then he groaned.

“Husk, if you please?” Rosie called out from the bathroom.

Husk put his coffee down on the small round table before rolling his eyes as he got his ass up, “Yup! I got it!”

“Good morning, Mista Hask! Newspapah from yesterday! Sorry it got a bit layt but I bet yah wanna see its content. It’s you in there after all! I’ll be goin’!” the newspaper boy who was requested to send the paper by his father, unknowingly to him, talked too fast he didn’t give Husk room to reply and went off right away.

Husk blinked a few times before looking at the paper in hand then shrugged to close the door. At least he didn’t get to scold the young boy to talk so fast if he stayed.

“Who was it, Husk?” Rosie walked out of the bathroom wearing a decent dress while brushing her long hair asking.

“Just the newspaper boy,” Husk bluntly replied.

He eyed the newspaper, then squinted at it. He read the heading over and over and over again. And every time he did, his eyes widen bit by bit. Then he glared at it and jabbed a finger at the photo with anger.

“Does THIS look like a documentary?! Yes! But to the public?! What the HELL was my Pa thinking?!” He scolded a little too loud at the innocent piece of sheet before handing it to Rosie.

Crossing his arms then pinching the bridge of his nose, he squeezed his eyes tight, he let out an exasperating sigh.

He didn’t want to see the other’s expression because he’s already too tired of this fucking situation! Could it get any worse!? He didn’t even drink a single drop of anything alcoholic in this goddamn place!

His internal suffering was disturbed by the morning news on the tele.

“Breaking News! We’re in a small town in Louisiana reporting live,” A blonde short haired woman spoke on the live screen.

“Last night must be hell to these people! Right, Katie?” A man round glasses, a partner anchor, butted in with a giddy shove of his arm.

“Why right you are, Tom! These people rather victims were badly dismembered from their own parts. Some, from their internals! Theire bodies were left in alleyways in the middle of the town discovered by this poor lady who went screaming with tears even before we arrived,” the woman reported with enthusiasm.

“Ooh! That must hurt like hell,” Tom muttered but recorded then the ‘Katie’ nudged him hard with her elbow which caused his glasses to quake and squeezed his abdomen with an ‘oof’.

“How’s that?” the abusive partner asked smirking loving the pain she had caused but Tom just held himself.

“Help!” the crying woman approached the screen.

“Police must stay active during the night! M-my f-f-father has been k-killed! He should not die! He was a very good man to his family! Why?! Why him?!! I-I I think this is the serial killer’s doings!” Then she choked on her sobs and began weeping again.

Tom and Katie became wide-eyed. It’s been some time since the serial killer had made their appearance. It’s been years.

“Maybe, m-maybe this is a message from the serial killer. 13 people had died in j-just ONE night! They must have come back…” Tom began to tremble in fear.

“And we’ll continue right after the break!” then Katie was cut-off while glaring at the trembling stupid ass partner. Then went on the bullshit loud commercials.

Oh shit!

Husk and Rosie looked at each other in mutual understanding.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Rosie was first to break the shock.

“What I’m thinking is, do you fucking know who?” Husk rose a brow.

Rosie put her hands on her waist with a smirk, “Of course, darling. I’ve known Alastor longer than you have. Have you forgotten he seems to my own child? And so are you.”

“Okay, okay. You know what? This is total bullshit, that I gotta say. Let’s change course. He must've read the newspaper. Besides, I hate waiting any longer. I gotta say it straightforward to my Pa or even your father. That’s the only way to stop all this shit.”

Then another knock from the door was heard.

Chapter Text

Great!

Just great…

He knew this was coming but he was kind of thankful anyhow.

Maybe he overdid it when he got all gentlemanly with Rosie, which is a very rare case to be seen of Husk. He respects women but doesn’t care much about others at all. Considering Rosie as a friend was a plus and also, they were playing pretend like playing princess and prince pfft.

Things got messier day after day. Before the first day was already exhausting then the first hit him like a truck, second was the play pretend shit, and third? Oh, of all the unholy shit: Alastor had lashed out and went rampage. The situation was getting worse and so does his headache but thankfully, and finally, he could fill his system with alcohol tonight.

Inside a separate room, which looks like a balcony, the three men were seated on a curved sofa individually with a good amount of space between the furniture. A triangle-shaped table stood in the middle which made the set exclusively only for three, fancy smanchy.

And most importantly, a bottle of vodka stood at the center of the table with a bucket of ice beside and three glasses altogether.

Yes, finally! Thanks to whoever, whatever.

“I am so glad you came, son.” Pa (Mr. Roche) said sincerely to Husk when they were seated and began filling the glasses with liquor.

Husk gave him a small smile and nodded, “Besides, I’ve missed ya too, Pa.”

“Oh, you little rascal. Ya being soft on your old man,” his Pa laughed half-heartedly.

“Just so ya know, ya don’t hear that shit every day,” then Husk replied with a snort, a smirk and pat his Pa. He truly missed his Pa, wouldn’t have survived without him.

“Yeah, yeah,” his Pa chuckled and smiled warmly.

There was a comfortable silence afterwards. Mr. Gabri (Rosie’s dad) didn’t interrupt the warm conversation from both his companions. It only reminded him of how his little flower bloomed to such a beautiful and elegant woman. How proud fathers could be with their pride. He could relate as much.

After filling the glasses, he slid them over to both.

“Cheers to the wedding!” as soon as Mr. Gabri had his glass, he raised it cheerfully which almost made Husk scowl but he’s got patience. Just a little bit left. At least, there’s still left.

They discussed the topic partially with Rosie but the two wanted to tell Husk in details.

Only Mr. Gabri, raised his glass and so he quirked an eyebrow in question.

“Wait, wait, wait! Always so fuckin’ straight to the point there, old pal. How about we play some rounds while discussing the whole thing?” Mr. Roche waved his hands in interruption then turned his head to Husk, “How’s that sound, son?”

Husk was concentrating not to burst out like ‘give me a break!’ but zoned back in when he was called, “Ah, oh, yeah. That’d be a great idea, Pa.”

He got saved there. Phew.

Mr. Gabri then took a sip and put his glass down giving a thoughtful hum, “Alright. I guess you’re right, old pal. There are things I want to discuss, too. I got overly excited. Pardon me.”

“Remember the card games I taught you?” Mr. Roche asked shuffling the cards.

“Of course, I damn liked you about it. Remember, old pal?” Mr. Gabri swirled his glass, and his chin resting on his other hand giving Mr. Roche a grin.

“Well, how about ya damn prove it, old pal?” Mr. Roche had leaned in with a reflective grin and posture but with the stack of cards on his other hand, replied with the same quiet tone. It was challenging but kinda… different? Kinda out of line, hmm…

They just punctuated that ‘old pal’ right there! Husk is an observant person like a cat with accurate senses but this scene right in front of his eyes doesn’t make sense. It isn’t weird right? Totally not weird, when your Pa and his long-time friend seems to be… what word could fit? Ahh…flirting(?) with each other. Hold on, what the fuck just happened?!

He didn’t hate to interrupt because he got his own problems and doesn’t want some more bullshit right now so, he cleared his throat in obvious impatience. He was running thin. He’s got to confess any moment now!

The two older men seemed to snap out of it and both acted a bit embarrassed(?) Oh, shit, Husk almost groaned in fucking great annoyance! He then drank half of his glass with gusto and let out a satisfied sigh right after. Let’s get this over with!

“I’ll shuffle the cards Pa. You decide what we playin’ here which your ‘old pal’ knows,” Husk stated bluntly but swung it with the ‘old pal’. Got them there. His Pa shifted uncomfortably but handed the cards. Husk found it hard not to notice.

Mr. Gabri must have recovered quickly though, “Now, about the wedding.”

Ugh, whatever. Just gotta listen. And. Observe. Hmm.

Once again, Husk shuffled the cards smoothly like how he cared for their existence. The bit of joy and entertainment they give him like the past. He enjoyed shuffling his own stack every now and then.

He even taught Alastor, but of course, Husk always wins.  He purposely makes a mistake or two so that his lover could win. Alastor rarely wins on his own and it would make Husk proud in such achievement. Alastor would be very happy and be on a good mood for the rest of the day. Or even say it to himself proudly with a fist on his chest and his head held high projecting greatly.

Aww, Husk missed his Al again. He frowned while shuffling the cards in a not-obviously but a sad manner. His heart was longing for his lover and it’s such a long time since they last saw each other. The warmth, the stubbornness, the calm and contented, and Alastor’s sweet loving presence was missing.

Tonight, will be the night.

Husk distributed the cards on each side quietly making the sound of cards fill the room. He then put half the stack left at the center. (I don’t know what they’re playing so, stick with me LOL XD)

Mr. Gabri made the first move, putting down a pair of cards and started discussing about the wedding starting with when. Mr. Roche added some in the discussion while Husk just gave small reactions like a nod or a hum at the appropriate parts. And every time, he’s getting pissed. He’s not enjoying this card game like he should, instead, indulging himself with liquor.

The game was almost ending when the old men got excited in discussing about the future.

“It would be nice to have a grandson, gonna be strong and witty just like you, son!”

“Hey, hey, don’t underestimate girls, they are strong too! And smart.”

Fuck, now they’re bantering about grandkids. Husk’s not too drunk for this, he was quiet throughout the whole ‘meeting’.

“How about two children?! I miss having a little shit running around and a playmate? That would bring twice the fun.”

“Great idea! A boy and a girl.”

“I’m so excited to meet them.”

“With my beautiful and elegant daughter with your strong and gentleman son, I bet they would be adorable!”

“Oh! Very damn adorable little---”

THAT’S IT!

“No one’s having fucking children and no one’s having fucking grandkids!”

There was a loud thud that cut off their conversation. Husk had more than enough! He slammed the last pair of cards he had in the middle of the table. They can’t just decide who marries who and want grandchildren that easy. Oh, for fuck’s sake!

“I’m in a relationship, Pa! And I LOVE HIM!” Husk said in a harshly and honestly.

Everything went silent.

Then Mr. Gabri gave a long sigh and rubbed his forehead, “Oh, Romi. This is on you.”

“Really, son? Why haven’t you said sooner? Who’s ‘him’? You should’ve brought him here!” Mr. Roche gave a laugh and looked quite… happy.

Oooooooh-kay? This reaction wasn’t the one Husk expected.

Hold on a sec. Aren’t ya surprised or mad or something, anything? Husk was about to ask just that but had another in mind.

“What do you mean?” He seated himself from the sudden burst of standing up with both palms on the table. He crossed his arms in his chest and gave his best expression of poker with an eyebrow raised.

Mr. Gabri gave a sigh yet again but didn’t remove his hand on his forehead and squinted his eyes shut, “You see, your father and I had a bit of a…fling when we were in service.”

“Don’t act like it’s the worst thing that happened in your damn life, Jy-jy.”

“Just tell him already, Rom-rom!”

They’re using nicknames now. Wow.

Mr. Roche laughed some more and pat his old pal then turned to Husk with a soft expression. “Before your mother and I met, I had these fuckin’ weird feelings for Gabri over here. But it was inappropriate for men to be… ya know? So, when our military service was over, we agreed not to meet again. I didn’t know what happened to him and I was glad about it. I got contented when I had your mother then I was blessed, there came you in our lives,” he paused for a while and smiled at the memories.

“I had built a nice family and worked abroad to learn business and put up a little bar at first. Your mother was glad that it went well. As you grew, she got sick so, we went to a hospital. She shouldn’t have a child as what the doctor said that’s why she got sick. You were barely two when she left. Shit, I got depressed, and I had to raise you on my own. But fate has a funny way doesn’t it? I found out that Mr. Gabri has supplies of liquor. I was the one who proposed to be partners in business with him and he helped you while growing up along the way.”

That was really surprising. Husk didn’t know all his life. That means his uncle Jy was right in front of him. How could he forget?

“Uncle Jy?”

“I suggest you bring him here, Husk,” Mr. Gabri said with a tired sigh. “We’re going to cancel the plans and the wedding.”

A loud clapping was heard and the sound of heels. Everyone’s head turned at where the sounds came from and there stood Rosie at the door then approached.

“Darling you did it! I am very thankful for everyone.” Rosie chimed in.

“Honeypie? How long have you been standing at that corner?”

“Oh, don’t you worry father, I heard all of it,” She gave a smug look with her hands on her hips.

Mr. Gabri facepalmed himself while Mr. Roche just laughed.

“Ahaha… so, when are you going to fetch him, son? Introduce him to us, hmm?” Husk’s Pa nudged him teasingly.

Husk and Rosie looked at each other and gave a reflective smirk.

“We’ll have our ways, Mr. Roche,” Rosie stated.

“He’ll be here sooner than intended,” Husk added with a laugh.

The two old men were confused as to how these two were having telepathy at the moment.
