blue and green bowties

Summary:

Dream helps George pick out a tie for Wilbur and Sally's wedding.

(short read, rated teen & up for mild, non-excessive profanity)

Notes:

this was actually supposed to be a scene (a memory) in three words, not gone unheard but I think this might be too long for a memoir scene...so I just sort of uploaded it on it's own

more context will be explained in the bottom notes! along with some info on the (unfinished) twoshot fic i put out almost two weeks ago (3wngu)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"What would you be without me, George? You're lucky I'm here to remind you," The blond joked, looking incredibly smug as he grinned.

"I know I am." George drawled out, beckoning Dream over to his dresser. "Now come here and help me pick out a tie, I can't choose."

With gentle footsteps Dream made his way over, leaning down a bit to take a look at the ties that were laid out and arranged inside of George's drawer. Although George had quite a lot of ties, his collection was quite lacking in variety. His forehead crinkled up as he glanced at three normal black ones, all the same size, from, likely, the same brand, made the same style with the same fabric.

Weird.

"Is this a hard decision for you? You literally have so many to choose from, and they're not even remotely different from each other," Dream said with a chuckle as he motioned at the abnormally large assortment of ties George had. "Actually, why do you even have so many ties anyways? It's not like there are many occasions where you'd use them."

"I...dunno, to be honest," George had replied, genuinely not even remembering how he got hold of so many in the first place. He shrugged quietly and watched as Dream suddenly lit up, a mischievous look on his face as he suddenly remembered something, a bright idea that had made its way into his mind a few hours before. He reached into his pocket--and pulled out a baby blue bowtie with navy polka dots scattered around on the fabric.

Dream grinned. George only stared at him incredulously.

"What the fuck, did you plan this?" George asked, sounding both dumbfounded and in utter disbelief. Dream burst out wheezing, doubling over and slapping his knee as he howled.

This was ridiculous. Not the tie itself, it looked fine---but the fact that Dream simply pulled out a blue bowtie (George's trademark colour!) from out of his suit pocket, as if he was completely prepared for this. George rolled his eyes as Dream guffawed, sounding like his lungs were going to give out.

George snorted. "You sound like a fucking tea kettle," he said underneath his breath, before giggling softly.

Half a minute of this passed until Dream suddenly stopped laughing, holding up a hand as his voice became surprisingly firm."Wait," He said, sticking his hand in his pocket and digging around in it again. Confused, George could only watch as he...

...pulled out yet another bowtie, this time, one emerald green with white polka dots. His smile was wider than before as he joked sing-songily, "We can match."

There was a beat, a pause, and then:

"Oh my god, you're actually such an idiot," George murmured, a smile finding its way into his voice and his pupils widening in endearment."Give me that," The brunet demanded, a hand on his hips and the other open. Their fingertips brushed against each other as Dream passed him the blue bowtie, the brunet eyeing the other man as he tugged off the one he was previously wearing, tossing it at George's bed. The sound of Dream's signature laugh and George's breathy chuckles filled the room as the two of them hurriedly put on their ties.

George inhaled as he observed their reflection in his dresser mirror. The tie actually went together with his grey suit well, the light colours complimenting each other and making himself seem more refined and neat overall. Dream, on the other hand, was wearing an ivory suit---the contrast of light and dark simply bringing out his features more: his eyes, for example. His light green irises seemed to be further accentuated with the presence of the green tie at his neck.

George couldn't deny the fact that he, indeed, looked rather dashing. Although if he admitted that out loud Dream would never drop the subject, teasing him about it for hours on end. It'd be embarrassing.

(Little did he know that Dream would get equally as flustered as him if he ever said so.)

"Wow," Dream said, as the two turned to face each other. "Has anyone ever told you that you look good in a suit, George?"

The brunet blushed. "Do I?"

Breathless, "Yeah."

George smiled rather bashfully at him, heart tingling as he smoothed out a portion of his blazer. "Well, thank you, Dream." He said quietly.

"I like your tie," Dream said, clearing his throat as he let his eyes roam over George for a moment. A smirk formed on his face as he teasingly added, "I guess you could say...it suits you."

George sent him a glare filled with mock-annoyance. "Shut up, Dream," he spat, but his voice carried no trace of malice in it.

Notes:

SHIT SHIT I ACCIDENTALLY POSTED IT WITHOUT FINISHING THE NOTES LMAO

anyways here's some context on what's going on in the story:

it's wilbur and sally's wedding today, and if not for dream, george would've overslept and been late to the event. so after george puts on a suit he asks dream what tie he should wear, and...well, you know the rest

as i mentioned earlier, this was supposed to be a memory scene in 3wngu (three words, not gone unheard), which was supposed to be a two-shot that i was supposed to finish but now here we are. it's been almost 2 weeks and although I've written about 1/2 of the 2nd chapter, I don't feel as motivated to finish writing it anymore :[ i know this sounds like an excuse but i've been struggling with a couple of things pertaining to mental health lately

that doesn't necessarily mean that i won't finish it, but it'll be unfinished for now. i'll still keep it up but if you want to view it you have to log in, so sorry
it's also not something that i was particularly proud of writing either lol--the first part at least

if u wanna visualise the actual bowtie here it is i was googling bowties earlier at 3 am for no reason: https://www.sprezzabox.com/products/light-blue-dot-bow-tie
