It had been a few hours since Sonic and Shadow arrived at Vanilla's house to babysit Cream. Sonic was currently sitting on the floor playing with Cream and her dollhouse when Shadow came walking in from the kitchen. Having cleaned up the debacle of an impromptu attempt at baking, where Cream and Sonic decided they "didn't need no stinkin’ cake recipe" and proceeded to make what looked more like a vanilla flavored soup than a cake.
"Cream. Its time for bed." Shadow said calmly. This prompted Cream to jump up from where they were playing, and she started running around the living room yelling and laughing "You can't catch me, I’m too fast, I’m never going to bed." Sonic quickly scrambled up and ran towards Cream.
Shadow expected Sonic to restrain the small rabbit but was met with the sight of Sonic grabbing Cream, hoisting her up onto his back and continuing onwards laughing and screaming along "Come and Catch us Shadow."
While Shadow was annoyed that his ever-helpful boyfriend was now switching sides to help Cream in her attempted escape of bedtime, he couldn't help but smile at the display. Cream giggling along as Sonic ran in circles around the coffee table and couch while sticking his tongue out at Shadow.
“Okay, enough playing around. Time for bed” Shadow commanded. Sonic instead decided to speed up and head towards the hallway. Before the blue blur could escape with the fugitive rabbit on his shoulders. Shadow teleported himself to the doorway to cut the hedgehog off.
Switching directions back towards the now unguarded kitchen he is once again cut off by Shadow who keeps using chaos control to deny them any escape route. “Ahw c’mon Shads, why can’t you have some fun.” Sonic groaned “Yeah mister Shadow, we’re only messing around.” Cream said softly.
Shadow relaxed a bit and stepped towards the duo. “We promised your mother you’d be in bed at 8pm” Shadow says calmly while rubbing Cream’s head. “Pinky promised even” Sonic adds. There’s a moment of silence where the rabbit seems to be in deep thought. “Okay mister Shadow.” Cream sighs “But will you and mister Sonic tell me a bedtime story?” She asks. “We’ll tell the best bedtime story ever.” Sonic yells “Better hold on tight Cream.” and in a streak of blue Sonic rushes up the stairs.
Shadow carefully places the toys back in the dollhouse before heading upstairs to join the two troublemakers as Cream is just finishing up for bed. Getting comfortable under the blankets, Sonic and Shadow sit down on either side of the bed to help Cream get tucked in.
“So. About that story.” Sonic starts, “Wanna hear something adventurous?” Cream nods and Sonic looks over at Shadow. “How about we work together to make this story double as exciting.” Sonic laughs while Shadow just snorts. Before the hybrid can answer Cream loudly cheers at Sonic’s suggestion. “Oh please, that sounds super fun.” The rabbit pleads causing Shadow to relent and agree to the idea.
Sonic rubs his hands before starting. “Some time ago. In a far, FAR away land, There was a bunny princess. A fierce warrior princess who fought Dragons and Monsters together with her two hedgehog companions.” Cream gasped and Shadow took this opportunity to continue. “But one day, there was a big monster who challenged Bunny Princess and her Hedgehog friends. Saying that they were no match for him and his minions as he laughed loudly. Of course the trio didn’t hesitate for a moment to start fighting the countless monsters headed their way.”
Cream seemed enthralled by the story as Sonic took over once again. “They fought and fought, jumping on their enemies, punching them, throwing them to knock others over. Some even fled from the battle seeing how powerful the Princess and her friends were.” A giggle escaped the rabbit who settled a little more in her bed. “After a long battle they finally arrived at their destination. The Big Scary Castle.” Shadow said putting emphasis on the description of the building. “But as they kicked open the door they discovered… It was made out of Cardboard.” Cream and Sonic gasp loudly “Nevertheless they stepped in, expecting the big bad monster to trap them at any moment. They ran towards the big door down the hallway and stepped into the throne room.”
Sonic once again taking over, “The big monster got up from his seat and laughed.” Putting on a deep voice, Shadow took the role of the monster “Ha. Ha. Ha. So you finally made it. Well, you’ll never beat me” he laughed. “The trio launched from the doorway to attack the big monster, the two hedgehogs going for the legs while the princess jumped WAAAY up high to kick the Monster in the face.” Sonic continued while Shadow sporadically threw in an “Oof” and an “Ow” in his monster voice. “And after a long battle they finally beat the monster who fell down with a big crash as he landed on his carboard throne. As it turns out, This monster just loved to fight people for fun in his cardboard castle. Not just that, but he was friends with the Princess. He wasn’t even a monster, just a very big Crocodile who loved to have fun. They all laughed and lived happily, fighting every once in a while. The End.” Sonic concluded.
“That was a great story” Cream yawned before she fell asleep. “Sweet dreams” Sonic said softly as they headed out of her room, only stopping to turn off the lights and close the door. “I can’t believe you somehow managed to get Vector involved.” Shadow laughed as they headed down the stairs “He was the first person to pop up in my head.” Sonic chuckled as he walked along “But that was a very good story.” Shadow adds “We should write a kids book.” Sonic jokes as he sits down and stretches his arms “I think it even got me tired.”
Shadow sits down and Sonic leans his head on Shadow’s shoulder. “No I’m not reading you a bedtime story Sonic.” Shadow deadpans, causing a loud groan of protest coming from the cobalt hedgehog. “C’mon Shads don’t be so mean.” Shadow kisses Sonic on the forehead. “Okay fine, a Short bedtime story for the big blue baby.” He laughs as Sonic cheers, seemingly ignoring the playful insult.
“There once was a Stinky hedgehog named Sonic” Shadow started, quickly cut off by a loud “HEY” from Sonic in protest. “You asked for a Bedtime Story” Shadow laughed loudly.
