Work Text:

Kyoya was a lot of things. Hard-working, Careful, Helpful, and plenty of other amazing traits. But there was one thing that only he could describe himself as. Jealous.

He crumbled the invitation that he had made for the wedding in his hand, resisting the urge to rip it to shreds. Jealous..?

I thought it would have gone away by now. This has all been for nothing..

Throughout 8 years, he had helped Tamaki create the perfect dates. The perfect proposal, and even, in the past few months, the perfect wedding. He loved Tamaki more than words could say. He was the only kid who had befriended him in the past, after all. And for 8 years he managed to convince himself that the love wasn't romantic. Maybe if he confessed it would have been different.

Maybe he wouldn't be sitting in a room, biting his tongue as he fights back the urge to cancel everything he had been working on, just to see them suffer.

But he knows Haruhi deserves better. Tamaku does too. And everyone else attending. Nevermind the amount of money Kyoya had poured into the event. He knew that resisting was the best idea.

But as he looked down at that piece of paper, he realized that it was finally over. And he didn't want it to be. He wanted to go back in time and try, attempt, and stop what he could. But then what? Would Tamaki be happy with him?

No...he wouldn't. He's straight. There's no use.

There's no use in fantasizing about what could be, what could have been. It would only make you cry harder when you think about it. When you lose the one person you thought you never would. You support them until you realize that you lost. And then their life goes on. And you become stuck in quicksand, slowly sinking until someone pulls you out. But no one comes to the rescue.

He remembered the words of Mori when he explained the feeling of losing his partner a few years back. It was exactly how he felt.

Back then he would have thought that feeling that bad was silly, but now, it felt more real than anything. He released the paper and adjusted his glasses, clearing his throat in hopes of knocking the tears back. It works for the time being. As he faces the large glass plates behind him, he notices the sun set. It's time to get going to the wedding.

It's quite funny, they chose the exact time they realized they were in love to start the ceremony. Sunset, right after the car incident. He brushed off his suit and prepared for the mess of his emotions he had to insure didn't get out.

As the ceremony starts, Tamaki is already ugly crying at the end of the carpet. As Haruhi walks down, it gets louder. Kyoya laughs at this, but it quickly turns into a deep frown as the pastor starts. Haruhi looked stunning in the dress. It was undeniable. But what hurt was hearing the vows.

"My one true love, whom I dearly appreciate, I promise to hold you in sickness and in health, and to make you the happiest person in the world." Tamaki chirped through the tears.

One true love.

It echoed through Kyoya's head. He felt like an idiot. Mori was right. Fantasizing about what could have been did make it worse. As soon as the ceremony was over Kyoya made his way to the bathroom.

He let out a huff as he grabbed onto the sink,  trying to drain his eyes as the tears kept coming. He didn't want to feel like this. He wanted to be happy for Tamaki. But he couldn't. He felt selfish and idiotic. And as he couldn't keep it in anymore, he crumbled. His knees fell to the ground as he hugged the sink for support, hiccups erupting from his mouth. He covered his mouth with a free hand to try to stop it, but it was no use.

It took him a while to gain back his composure. He didn't realize how long he had spent in the bathroom, because when he went out, people were crowding around the two for the bouquet toss.

Kyoya joined in at the back, not expecting much. But when the flowers arrived right in his arms, he was surprised. Blue and red roses. Their colors. He looked up as Tamaki smiled. "I look forward to your wedding, Kyoya!" He said, pointing at him. And as a tear shed down his face, knowing all he wanted was to be married to him, he smiled.

"Me too."

This is a lot shorter than my other works, but hey, at least I finished this one. Enjoy!
