Chapter 1: Tubbo walks in

Chapter Text

Ranboo was used to living alone. He had habits and mannerisms that had adjusted into living alone. They hadn’t quite gotten used to living with Tubbo and Tommy. When Tubbo had invited them to move in, of course, they accepted, but he wasn’t prepared to suddenly have two roommates. Especially one who had a hard time knocking, and had a habit of just walking in. Ranboo started locking their door more often than not, which was fine with the other two in the house.

One lovely evening, Ranboo was alone in the house, Tommy and Tubbo had gone out to visit their friends and Ranboo wasn’t up for going, so they didn’t think to lock their door. He sighed, pulling a box out from beneath his bed, he opened it, pulling out a couple of bags.

They set the box aside, opening the bags, staring at the full bags of make-up that greeted him. They started digging through it, humming as they pulled out green and red-themed palettes, eyeliners, mascaras, lipstick and lip gloss, blush, highlighter, all sorts of stuff. They laid it out on the bed, finding the products he thought the best for him. They put everything else back in the bag. He checked the time, 7:36, he had time. He grabbed his phone, put in his earbuds, and started playing his playlist.

He started on his eyes, on the left side he started on green with a small white shimmer. He did a dark green for the crease, lightening it above their crease, and blending it down to the lid. On the lid, he did a light green fading into a white shimmery kind of color, making the inner corner of his eyes pop a bit. He hummed a bit, wondering if he should use the black or white liner, so he decided on the black liner.

On their other eye, they started with a deep red in his crease, blending it up into a lighter one just like on his left side. He blended it down into a lighter red. He hummed, grabbing a blackish grey color and putting that in their inner crease. Of course, with his earbuds in, he couldn't hear the front door opening. Nor did he hear the voices of his roommates.

“I’m gonna head to bed, Tubbo,” Tommy yawned, “Say hello to Ranboob for me,” he added before slipping back to his room, it was decorated red and white, one red wall to accent the white walls(they all had an accent color. Tubbo’s being green, Ranboo’s being black, Tommy’s being red), disks on the wall, record cases as well. Posters of bands etc. LED lights he usually kept on a deep or light red.

“Goodnight, Tommy,” Tubbo called, going into his own room. Tubbo’s room had a bee theme to it, painting off bees, especially on the accent wall. Photos in frames of the three of them, flags, and posters as well. They all had LEDs, Ranboo’s were off most of the time, Tubbo kept his own blue or green. He set his bags down before going to Ranboo’s room.

Tubbo knocked, of course, he got no answer because Ranboo had his earbuds in, so Tubbo thought he’d fallen asleep, which was quite early for Ranboo, seeing as it was only just a little past 8 o’clock. He tried the door, just in case, and it opened much to Tubbo’s surprise.

Ranboo jumped when their door opened, closing his eye shadow palette, of course, they couldn’t hide what they were doing. All they could do was sit in fear of Tubbo’s reaction. When they made eye contact, Ranboo almost started trembling. The last time he’d been walked in on, he’d been called slurs and kicked out by his father. He ripped his earbuds out, scrambling to find words.

“Tubbo- I- um- I’m just- this isn’t- I just-” Ranboo stammered, trying to pile up all of the make-up on the bed.

“You’re doing make-up?” Tubbo asked, sounding completely calm about it.

Ranboo stopped and slowly nodded, Tubbo smiled, closing the door and hopping on Ranboo’s bed, the half-black-half-white sheets, rustled underneath him.

“Can I watch?” He asked.

“Do-do you want to?” Ranboo asked, and Tubbo nodded.

“Yeah! Makeup’s always intrigued me. Never had the chance to get into it though,” He said, picking up the black eyeliner. “It looks really good on you, though!”

“You’re not...mad? Or freaked out?” Ranboo asked, and Tubbo looked at him confused.

“No? Why would I be?” Tubbo asked, Ranboo shrugged.

“My dad-”

“Your dad was an arsehole, okay?” Tubbo cut him off, “Shouldn’t have to hide who you are because of some jackass belief. Now, what did I interrupt?” Tubbo asked, looking at the different products.

“I was just...picking out eyeliner for this eye, the mascara,” Ranboo said, “Then I was probably gonna do highlighter, maybe blush, and I haven’t figured out what to do for lips yet. I used to do this all the time when I lived alone, never went outside in it though. Too scared.”

“Well, here. I think the white liner would look good on the red and black side, yeah?” Tubbo asked, smiling as he lifted the liner up. Ranboo nodded, taking it. They opened it, and easily applied it, matching his left eye, which surprised him since he usually messed up on at least one side. “Damn, you made that look easy.”

“Trust me, it’s not,” Ranboo said, picking up his mascara.

“Do you have a white one?” Tubbo asked, going through the bags.

“No, actually, I haven’t bought one yet,” Ranboo said, applying the mascara easily. His eyelashes fanned out prettily, and they blinked a couple of times before closing it and setting it aside.

“Will you do my makeup?” Tubbo asked, looking through their colors.

“You want me to?” Ranboo asked.

“Yeah! It looks really awesome!” Tubbo said, “You’re so good at it, and like I said, I’ve always wanted to try it.”

“Alright, then, sure.” Ranboo agreed, a small smile on their lips. Tubbo clapped happily and watched as Ranboo used the highlighter and blush on their face, blending it nicely against his skin.

“That’s really pretty. You look really pretty,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo flushed at the compliment.

“Thanks,” They said, looking between their lipsticks and glosses. “Lipstick or gloss?” they asked.

“Hm...can I see the difference? Specifically between these two?” Tubbo asked, pulling out a nude lip and a reddish gloss.

“Sure,” Ranboo said, taking both. He tried the gloss first, they hadn’t worn gloss in a while, it felt thick against their lips and kind of sticky, but the color blended nicely against his skin, giving his lips a nice pop to them.

“Hm, try the other one?” Tubbo suggested, and Ranboo wiped the gloss off and put the lipstick on, feeling better on his lips. He was used to wearing lipstick. The nude also looked good, blending well and looking nice with the rest of his makeup, making his eyes the main point of the look.

“I like this one more, it brings more attention to your eyes,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo looked into the small mirror he had, nodding in agreement, fixing the edges with his ring finger. “Okay! My turn?” Tubbo asked.

“Yeah, you can go through and pick out what you want,” Ranboo said, and Tubbo started immediately. Looking between palettes, Ranboo had a SHITTON of products. “What do you suggest?” Tubbo asked.

“Well, these ones are the best, but they have a lot of fall out, so we’d have to brush your face clean most likely,” Ranboo said, grabbing his favorite palettes. “And it all depends what kind of look you want.”

“A blueish green look?” Tubbo asked. “I would’ve asked for a bee-related one, but I think we’ll save that for another day,” he chuckled.

“If you want to do this again, sure. But now I can do a blue and green blended look. Do you want eyeliner?” Ranboo asked.

“I mean, it looks cool, but it also looks terrifying at the same time,” Tubbo said, picking up a black wet liner.

“Well, I do liner better on others than I do myself, I’ll be honest. We can try on one eye and you can see how you look in it, then we’ll wipe it off and do the eye properly. Yeah?” Ranboo asked, and Tubbo nodded. “Okay, I’m gonna have to get a little closer. So bare with me.”

“Just c’mere,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo chuckled as they invaded Tubbo’s personal space. “Close your eyes,” They muttered, and Tubbo closed his eyes. Gently, Ranboo applied the black liner to his eye. Both of them held their breath, Ranboo being as gentle as possible before pulling back, small, humble wing on Tubbo’s eye.

“Here,” Ranboo said, handing him the mirror. Tubbo opened his eyes and looked at it, and he smiled.

“I like it,” Tubbo said, setting the mirror down.

Ranboo smiled, “Alright, here, wipe it off, and then we can do the eyeshadow and stuff.” Tubbo accepted a soft cloth with makeup remover on it and easily wiped it off his face. Ranboo took it back, setting it aside and opening one of the palettes.

“I’ll use these colors since they blend easier together,” Ranboo said, and Tubbo glanced at the palette and nodded. Tubbo readjusted his sitting before closing his eye, he tried not to flinch when he felt Ranboo touch the brush to his eye, but he still kind of did. They did not comment on it.

“Tommy went to bed I’m guessing?” Ranboo said gently when he pulled back momentarily.

“So he claims, I think he’s just playing video games,” Tubbo said, freezing up again as Ranboo started on his eye again. He felt a brush gently glide against the surface of his eyelid. Ranboo shyly held the side of Tubbo’s face, and Tubbo couldn’t help but smile at the other’s timidness.

Ranboo pulled back again, and Tubbo heard the light tapping of a brush. Then, he felt the brush on his other eye. After a moment Ranboo started humming gently. Tubbo smiled again, recognizing the tune. He felt Ranboo start blending again, the gentle bristles of the brush felt nice against his skin.

“You should meet Eret,” Tubbo said, his voice gentle and easy, it didn’t stir Ranboo one bit.

“Why’s that?” Ranboo asked, the brush removed for a moment before returning to Tubbo’s eyelid.

“They’re great with makeup, or so I’ve been told. Plus I think you two would just genuinely get along,” Tubbo hummed.

“You’ll have to introduce me then,” Ranboo said, “I got the blending done, you wanna look know or after I do the eyeliner and stuff?” Ranboo asked, sitting back.

“You can do the liner, what was that stuff you put on your lashes again?” Tubbo asked.

“Mascara, it helps your eyes pop more,” Ranboo said, grabbing the liner and gently holding Tubbo’s face still as he applied it. Tubbo froze up as Ranboo did so, not daring to speak for the moment until Ranboo pulled back.

“Is that difficult to put on,” He said, opening his eyes momentarily, Ranboo shrugged.

“Not really, it’ll just be really close to your eyeball,” Ranboo said, looking at him as he pumped the brush of the liner into the ink holder thing before pulling it back out again. “Close your eyes,” He mumbled, and Tubbo did so. Ranboo brushed gently against the line of his eye, and the cold sent a shiver down Tubbo’s spine.

Once Ranboo was done with that, Tubbo blinked his eyes open again. “Do you wanna try applying it to me?” Tubbo asked.

“Do you trust me enough?” Ranboo asked, closing the liner and setting it aside. “It’s not a necessity, you’ve already got pretty nice eyelashes.”

“I trust you. I at least wanna try it,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo nodded. They grabbed a mascara, opening it, and he pumped it into the main part to get enough product.

“Look up at the ceiling, and try not to blink, alright?” Ranboo said, and Tubbo nodded, looking up at Ranboo’s ceiling, which had glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to it. He felt the brush of the mascara before he saw it, trying to resist the urge to blink. Ranboo moved the brush before he did, luckily, with a small chuckle.

“Sorry, sorry,” Tubbo said.

“It’s alright. Luckily your eyes didn’t water. Like I said, it’s not a necessity,” Ranboo said.

“No, no. Try again,” Tubbo encouraged, looking up again. This time, he did better, and when Ranboo pulled back, that’s when he blinked. “Alright, not too bad.” He said, blinking a couple of times.

“Mhm, mhm,” Ranboo hummed, Tubbo looked up again as Ranboo did his other eye. Tubbo was prepared this time and did better. They applied it easily, and pulled back soon enough, closing it and putting it aside.

“Just the eyes? Or did you want the full thing as well?” He asked, grabbing the washcloth and gently running it against Tubbo’s face, underneath his eyes. Tubbo relaxed at the gentle treatment.

“Just the eyes are fine for now. Can I see?” He asked, and Ranboo nodded, handing him the mirror as he moved to close everything.

Tubbo looked in the mirror, smiling at the pretty colors on his eyelids. The green faded into a deep blue with a little white on the inner crease of his eye, like Ranboo’s left eye. He had small matching wings on each eye, and his eyelashes popped nicely to finish it off.

“Awe, you made me look pretty! I like it!” Tubbo giggled, admiring himself. Ranboo laughed a bit, putting the makeup back in the bags.

“Glad you like it,” They said, grabbing the box and putting the makeup bags within it before shoving the box back under the bed.

“You’ve been hiding all of that this whole time?” Tubbo asked, and Ranboo shrugged.

“I’ve hidden it since the first time I grabbed a brush,” He chuckled. “One of my old friends from school said I had beautiful eyes for makeup, and I allowed her to do a look on me. Ever since then, I guess it’s become a hobby. One I haven’t been able to indulge in for a while, but still a hobby.”

“Well, you should indulge in it more often, and let me join in. You’re very gentle,” Tubbo said.

“Well, I’m not trying to hurt you,” They chuckled, grabbing their washcloth.

“Yeah. Wait, wait! Picture time! We gotta save this moment,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo chuckled.

“Bee, we don’t-”

“C’mon, it’s my first time wearing makeup! We gotta document it!” Tubbo said, pulling his phone out and flipping to the camera app. “Besides, once it’s gone, it can never be the same.” He said, adjusting on the bed for his back to face Ranboo.

They chuckled, before adjusting in his seat to sit properly in the frame. Tubbo snapped a photo, “Close your eyes,” Tubbo said, and Ranboo did so. Tubbo did as well and snapped a photo. “Awesome! Now we can take it off!”

“Promise not to post those?” Ranboo asked, handing Tubbo the cloth after dousing it in more makeup remover. Tubbo ran it over his eye a few times, humming at how nice it felt against his sensitive skin.

“Promise,” He agreed, pulling the cloth back. Ranboo chuckled, grabbing the cloth and running it on the underside of his eye, removing the black smear of mascara. Tubbo allowed him to do the other eye.

“Thank you,” Ranboo said gently.

“For what?” Tubbo asked, blinking his eyes clear when Ranboo pulled back, drenching it again before rubbing it over their own eye.

“Not kicking me out for one,” Ranboo mumbled, as he wiped his face down clean of the makeup. Tubbo smiled sadly, as Ranboo looked down at the dirty cloth, just as sadly.

“I’d never kick you out for something you enjoyed unless it was illegal,” Tubbo said.

“What about arson?” Ranboo asked, teasingly.

“That’s the only exception,” Tubbo joked, causing them both to laugh. “But seriously. If this makes you happy, or calms you down, or is just fun, then do it. There’s no reason not to.”

“I still might not do it too often, but thank you for the reassurance,” Ranboo said, and Tubbo nodded.

“And I won’t tell Tommy if you want to, that’s on you. But I won’t expose you like that, promise,” Tubbo said, getting up. “Though, I don’t think he’d mind it.”

“I don’t think he will either, but still, that small amount of fear,” They chuckled, tossing the dirty cloth into the wash bin across the room.

“I understand. But hey, I know who to come to now if I want my makeup done,” Tubbo chuckled and Ranboo smiled. “Goodnight, Boo.”

“Night ‘Bo,” Ranboo said, and Tubbo left their room with a grin.
