Work Text:
A little bunny scampers across the grass in a large field in the middle of a large forest. The bunny is oblivious to the fact that this forest is right by a rather large school- but that didn’t matter. It’s not like he was leaving the forest to see it anyways.
No, the forest was too good to leave. And it’s not like it’s just because he was scared to go back- scared to feel like he doesn’t want to be alive any more.
This was easier.
Because he didn’t really want to die, and that seemed like.. The only option he had- until he found his quirk.
Yeah, he wasn’t actually a bunny. Or he was! Just- not completely.
It was a quirk he didn’t know he had until he collapsed in the forest after running away from bullies. He woke up as a fluff ball.
And isn’t that just great? He had a quirk! But…
It wouldn’t change anything really, would it?
He was just a bunny. That was all he could do- as far as he knows. He’s tested it out- several times. All he could do was switch from Bunny- back to a quirkless worthless boy. Maybe he could do more- but he doesn’t really…
He doesn’t really think it matters. Not any more.
But the point is, he would still be seen as weak by his peers- and as something fragile that needed to be protected by his Mother who never wanted to tell anyone he was quirkless anyways.
So, he chooses to stay a bunny. As things were just so much more simple like this.
The green fuzz ball scurries into his little den he made in a tree trunk, his tiny cozy home. His notebooks were in here along with a stuffed bunny- really, the only things that were important to him from his room back at his ho- old home. There was also a thick blanket in the corner making a sort of warm nest for him to sleep in- it would be especially helpful during winter when his fur coat wasn’t enough.
He hadn’t planned on bringing his notebooks, but they had… Sensitive information. Plus, they were the only thing that brought him comfort when he was at school or at home. A safe distraction.
Izuku flops over onto his blanket, nuzzling his face gently into the fabric. He had a long day of running, jumping, chewing on grass- (as well as those random fruits he found laying a little aways from his den- suspicious but delicious.), taking a small bath in the river nearby and bird watching. He’s never felt so free before.
So he lets himself nap for a few hours, bunny feet twitching in his sleep as he has a happy dream. His sleep isn’t that deep however, as he’s always been a light sleeper- so when he hears a rustle in a tree right by his den he jolts up, ears straightening up and twisting around as he listens for whatever made that noise.
Another rustle- and Izuku is on his feet. He creeps towards the entrance of his den, peaking out of the hole and looks up towards the trees cautiously.
He suddenly makes eye contact with sharp, calculating eyes- the ones of a cat. And simultaneously their eyes both widen. The bunny quickly ducks his head back into his home and hides under his blanket. He tries to comprehend what he just saw-
Was that a purple cat?
He knows that quirked animals were possible- but here? In his forest?
Maybe he couldn’t really say anything- he was a green bunny after all. But he was also.. Human, technically.
Oh god this cat wasn’t human too, was he? He hopes not.
He doesn’t want to be found out this early- not when he just escaped.
“Uh. Hello?”
Izuku lets out a whimper at the voice, this was just his luck- huh?
“I didn’t mean to uh, scare you? Maybe I’m just talking to an actual bunny right now but the way that you… Reacted, didn’t seem that normal.”
The fluffball stays quiet.
“Green also doesn’t seem natural for bunnies either.. Maybe you’re quirked? That probably means you’re not going to respond to me, huh? Am I actually talking to myself right now?”
Izuku suddenly feels relieved, he could fake that. Just a quirked bunny.. Yeah, that works.
The green bunny slowly creeps from underneath his blanket and towards the entrance. He sticks his little face out in order to get a look at the purple cat that’s looking very awkward- but blinks in surprise at the bunny now staring at him.
“Hi?”
Izuku blinks slowly. He can’t respond- not without giving himself away.
“Shit, you are just a bunny, aren’t you?”
Izuku tilts his head.
“..A smart bunny.”
Izuku resists giggling, instead just taking the chance to extend his head forward and give the kitty a good sniff. The purple cat allows this, curiosity quickly replacing any awkwardness from before.
When Izuku suddenly gives the kitty a little lick on his paw it makes him sputter and the bunny allows himself to snicker in amusement.
“Was that necessary?” The cat questions, deadpanning when Izuku gives a playful nod.
And maybe- Izuku was lonely enough to try and befriend this kitty. Because while he was free from his previous shackles, it came with the cost of living alone and avoiding people. But maybe… Just maybe.
This kitty can be his friend.
“Is this um, your home?” The purple cat questions, but then blinks. “Oh right- not that it matters but- I’m uh- Hitoshi. Do you have a name or..?” Hitoshi asks, then semi regrets it when Izuku suddenly retreats back into his den- he thinks he’s messed up until the bunny comes back with a piece of paper in his mouth and puts it down in front of the kitty.
Izuku is written in messy letters, and it makes Hitoshi smile softly.
“Nice to meet you, Izuku. I guess that means this is your home then, huh?” Hitoshi earns a nod from the bun bun, and the cat eyes the entrance to the fuzzball’s home.
Way too tiny for him to get in, but he guesses that’s on purpose so predators can’t squeeze in that easily.
“I’m guessing it’s cozy in there, huh?” Hitoshi hums, then lets out a small laugh when Izuku bumps his forehead against his fluffy chest. Hitoshi lets Izuku nuzzle him, silently dying inside at the pure and utter adorableness the little guy emits.
Though it’s… A little worrying. If a bunny is trying to make friends with him- a cat, did Izuku have.. Anyone else?
The bunny was clearly very smart, and maybe that led him to not have too many friends out here. No one else understands him.
Hm.
Maybe..
Maybe he can be Izuku’s friend.
Surely he can work it into his schedule. Visiting a little bunny in the woods can be nice.
Plus, it’s not like he himself had any friends. Not yet, anyways. He doesn’t even know if he really wants friends- he’s trying to be a hero.. Not.
Hm.
Whatever- he’ll figure it out.
“Hey bunbun- I gotta get going now before my Moms get worried.” Hitoshi sighs out, then laughs fondly when the fluff ball just gives him a bap on the nose and escapes back into his den.
“I’ll be back tomorrow- if that’s okay by the way-”
The cat lets out an ‘oomf’ when Izuku suddenly dashes back out of his den and tackles him, excitingly bouncing in place as he gives bunny kisses to the cat’s face.
“That’s more than okay then, huh?” Hitoshi laughs out, and gives Izuku a nervous lick back ontop of the bun’s forehead. It makes the fluff ball freeze and slowly look up to the purple kitty with an embarrassed expression. And Hitoshi just snorts, “You licked me first, I was just returning the gesture.”
The bunny seems to pout at that, hiding his embarrassment as he gets off of Hitoshi and dashes back into his den.
It seems that’s the end of that, Hitoshi thinks with a warmth in his chest. The situation was very pure, and it honestly made him quite happy- it lingers on his mind as he pads off towards his home, looking forward to his next visit to the fluff ball.
....
A few weeks later Hitoshi is chasing Izuku around trees, paws hitting the grassy floor speedily as he finally jumps into the air and tackles his fluff ball. Izuku lets out a squeal and tries to use his big thumpers to kick Hitoshi off- but he’s pinned completely before it even gets a chance to be effective.
“Finally gotcha.” Hitoshi snickers, giving Izuku a kitty lick on the head when the bunny pouts.
The purple cat gets off of the fluffball when he starts squirming, and lazily lays down on the grass with a sigh. Izuku flips himself onto his tummy and shuffles close to Hitoshi, nudging his cat nose with his own and tilting his head in question.
“I’m okay bun bun. I just… You know how I told you that I’m y’know- human, and this-” Hitoshi gestures to his cat-self, “Is my quirk?”
Izuku nods.
“It’s.. Not my only Quirk.”
Izuku has to resist gasping, but his shocked expression is enough to make Hitoshi laugh softly.
“Yeah, my first quirk was actually.. Brainwashing.”
That’s so cool! Izuku thinks, now tapping his paws against Hitoshi rapidly in excitement. It seems to surprise Hitoshi, and the fluffball doesn’t notice the cat’s breath of relief.
“Well, I’m glad you like it.” Hitoshi smiles, trapping Izuku into his paws in order to stop his excited wiggles. It makes Izuku just place a paw on Hitoshi’s face in complaint and the kitty licks the bunny’s paw to get it off. “You’re a lil gremlin, y’know that?”
“Pbptbppbtppp” Izuku blows a raspberry, making Hitoshi scoff fondly.
“Yeah, of course you know.” The fluffball baps his paw on Hitoshi’s face again, willing him to continue what he was saying. “Right, Right. Okay. I’m just, worried. I don’t know if I’ll.. Be able to get into the hero course like this. I told you I’m in the general department right now and training with Eraserhead- but I don’t know..” Hitoshi sighs, staring at Izuku who’s looking at him with the most patient look a bunny could carry. “Everyone aside from my parents growing up who knew about my… First quirk told me I’d be a villain. So I just.. What if they’re right? What If I can’t be a hero?”
Izuku is hating the fact that he couldn’t speak right now without giving himself away, he wanted to tell Hitoshi that he’ll be a great hero. And that his quirk didn’t make him a villain.
Fuck, was he being.. Greedy right now? Not helping his friend for his own benefit. He..
Izuku shakes his head, and instead focuses on giving Hitoshi a bunny lick on his nose that makes the cat’s face scrunch up.
“I know, you don’t care, do you? I mean, you don’t have any worries. You’re just.. You’ve always been a lil bunny, huh? Just eat grass and.. Run around. Nothing but predators to worry about I guess, and even then it looks like you’re smart enough to handle them.”
I do care, Izuku thinks. Nudging Hitoshi with his muzzle in an insistent way that makes the cat huff in amusement.
“I get it, I get it.” Hitoshi gives Izuku another lick on his forehead, making Izuku whine in frustration. “You don’t have to get worked up over me, I know you care in your own fluffball way- it’s fine.”
It’s not fine.
“I.. Should probably get going. I have.. Homework.”
Hitoshi makes to leave, and Izuku panics.
“No!”
....
Hitoshi stares in shock, and Izuku feels everything freeze.
He just- fuck. He just said that, didn’t he?
Izuku takes Hitoshi’s shocked silence as a chance to dash away from the cat, running right for his den. But before he can make it, Hitoshi is tackling him to the ground again- making Izuku let out a startled whine.
“Hey hey hey-” Hitoshi shushes Izuku in a soft tone and holds the bun in a gentle way, trying to get the fluffball to calm down. “It’s okay- I’m not mad, if that’s what you’re thinking. I promise. A little shocked but- not mad.”
“I don’ wanna go b-back i don’t wanna g-go back-” Izuku cries and pleads, “Please d-don’t tell please don’t-”
“Hey- it’s okay- calm down, yeah?” Hitoshi gives a reassuring lick to the bun’s cheek, “Just calm down and talk to me please- I promise I won’t be mad.”
“Y-you won’t take- take me a-away?” Izuku questions in a shaky voice that makes Hitoshi even more concerned.
Just what exactly did fluffball go through that made him feel like he had to hide himself? To not speak?
“I won’t, I promise bunbun.”
Hitoshi sits there for a few minutes with the fluffball, patiently waiting for the bun to calm down completely. When Izuku finally stops shaking, he cuddles up to his comfort kitty and breathes in the lavender smell that always seemed to stick to the purple cat.
“M’ Sorry.”
“You don’t have anything to be sorry for bun.” Hitoshi mumbles, leaving yet another kitty kiss on the fluffball’s little head.
“You don’t e-even know what I-I’m saying s-sorry for.” Izuku says, voice muffled in Hitoshi’s fur.
“You still don’t have anything to be sorry for.”
“But I Lied t-to you-”
“Did you really? I mean, you just didn’t speak.”
“T-toshi…”
“Toshi Huh? Is that what you’ve been callin me in that lil fluffball head of yours?”
“How do you n-not hate me..?”
“I- Why would I hate you, Izu?”
Izuku doesn’t respond, he just lays his head down on the grass.
“Can you please look at me, bun?”
Izuku’s eyes shift up to meet Hitoshi’s, the cat staring with a warm expression.
“I promise whatever it is you think that I’d hate you for- I don’t. I don’t hate you. You’ve never given me a reason to.”
The green puff of fluff snuggles close to Hitoshi, clearly seeking comfort that’s been given to him for the past month or so by the kitty. It almost seemed to be instinct at this point to trust the purple cat, even if his nerves from his more human mind is telling him not to bother Hitoshi- to not annoy him.
Hitoshi merely just cuddles Izuku close, laying his head atop of Izuku’s with a soft sigh.
“I-I’m not a quirked b-bunny..” Izuku mumbles, Hitoshi humming in response- not yet saying anything as to not interrupt the bun. “But I a-also haven’t been h-human for a few months n-now.”
Hitoshi tries not to react, but god what that implies is…
Izuku, a human with a bunny quirk, has been out here on his own for a while. Any possible explanation doesn’t seem.. That great.
“I don’t w-want to s-say everything, not… Not now. I j-Just, I c-can’t go back.”
“That’s okay.” Hitoshi hugs Izuku tightly. “That’s okay.”
“You’ll st-still visit- you’ll still c-come?” Izuku questions hesitantly, and Hitoshi instantly nods.
“Of course, I can’t leave my best friend alone- now can I?”
They both lay in silence for a moment, before Izuku speaks up again.
“...toshi have you made any other f-friends outside of me yet?”
Hitoshi blinks, looks away, and says nothing.
“...Toshi…”
“...Uh, yeah, sure.”
“..Toshi you th-thought I was j-just a b-bunny and y-you called me your b-best friend.”
“..You are my best friend though.”
“Toshi…”
“Oh Shush, you have no room to talk. Mr. Livin’ as a bunny who has a cat friend that visits sometimes.”
“I-I dunno- I think I o-only need you- I haven’t.. Had a-any friends b-before you.. But y-you’re going to be a h-hero and.. It’s good t-to have people you can rely on to h-help you when the time c-comes.” Izuku fidgets, moving his head slightly to get a lick from the kitty.
“Maybe you’re right- I do need friends if I’m going to join the hero course- I guess. I’m pretty sure Aizawa-Sensei said the same thing, actually.” Hitoshi laughs lightly, “But.. Izuku I would want you to have more friends too. You wouldn’t have to be.. Human, if you don’t want to be- but I don’t- I don’t want to leave you here now.”
Izuku suddenly backs away, and Hitoshi flinches lightly at the hurt expression Izuku carries.
“Izuku-”
“I don’t w-want to go back.”
“You won’t go anywhere where you don’t feel safe. I promise. I know you’ve been okay out here on your own but I can’t just- leave you here alone- now knowing what I know now about you.”
“I don’t want to go back.” Izuku says more firmly this time, then visibly deflates. “You said- You said It was o-okay if I stayed- I don’t want t-to be hurt a-any more.” The bunny backs up once, “Please.”
“Okay- Okay. I won’t take you from here- just don’t run away, please.” Hitoshi says as reassuringly as he can, stepping forward slowly until he can touch his nose to the bun’s. “I just.. Can I bring one person here? If you say no- I won’t, but I can promise you they won’t make you do anything you don’t want to do either.”
“W-who?” Izuku questions, leaning slightly forwards towards Hitoshi’s warmth. It makes the cat feel happy that the bunny trusted him so much- even if he was a nervous wreck right now.
“Aizawa-Sensei, if that’s okay.”
“E-Eraserhead..?”
“Yup.”
“U-um… Okay..”
Hitoshi cheers internally and slowly pulls Izuku towards his chest. The bunny lets himself be hugged, revelling in the warmth Hitoshi’s fur provides.
“Does tomorrow sound okay?” Hitoshi questions, smiling softly when Izuku nods slowly. “Good. Now then, how about you tell me about yourself- because all I know right now is that you’re an adorable hyper bun who gets oddly happy every time I talk about heroes.”
Izuku seems to flush in embarrassment and hides his face in Hitoshi’s chest, making the kitty laugh sweetly and Izuku blush even further.
“O-Okay.”
....
The next day, Izuku is waiting in his Den for Hitoshi to arrive with… A Hero.
A Hero who Hitoshi claims to have a resting bitch face but a kind heart.
But- he was also a hero- so will he…
Was this a bad idea? Will a hero make him go back?
Maybe he should’ve just ran the moment Hitoshi found out. But then he would’ve lost his only friend. And..
He trusts Hitoshi. The kitty wouldn’t let him go back.
“Izuku?”
Izuku jolts at Hitoshi’s voice, unravelling himself from his blanket and inching his way over to the entrance. He peeks out, finding Hitoshi’s kitty face staring fondly at him. The purple cat gives Izuku a kind lick on his head, and steps back so Izuku can exit his den. The fluffball instantly attaches himself to his kitty’s side, happy to use his comfort source as a safety wall of sorts-
Because yes, he can see the tall tired man waiting by a tree from afar. He knows it’s Eraserhead, but it didn’t stop him from being skittish- a stranger was a stranger.
“Are you okay to meet him?” Hitoshi questions, humming softly at Izuku’s little nod. The purple kitty meows over at Aizawa-Sensei, gesturing him over with his paw. The man seems to huff in light amusement, pushing himself off the tree he was leaning on and walks over with light steps.
Hitoshi lets out an ‘oomf’ when Izuku basically pushes himself underneath his stomach, effectively hiding under the kitty and peeking out from underneath. The bunny stares warily at the hero, and the man seems to sense his fear as he sits on the grass below- leaving a large enough gap between them so Izuku doesn’t feel caged.
“You’re Izuku, right?” Aizawa hums, eyes calculating as the bunny nods once. “And is that your home right there?” The man points towards the den, letting himself smile just a tiny bit when Izuku nods again. “It looks very warm, I like it.”
The green bun just shrugs, turning his face in order to hide it in his comfort kitty’s fur and hide his little blush from the compliment to his den. He wasn’t used to praise, okay?
Aizawa spends the next hour just talking to Izuku- never once pushing his boundaries and waiting very patiently for the bunny to finally stop using Hitoshi as cover and sit out in front of Aizawa on his own. He still looked ready to bolt at any moment- but Hitoshi told him that was normal. The poor fluffball was always on guard unless he was settled comfortably under his purple kitty or in his den.
“Izuku, I know you’re happy living out here, but I would feel better if you were somewhere safer.” Aizawa finally says when Izuku is laying down with Hitoshi by his side, the bunny immediately tenses- and the tired man lets Hitoshi work his charm by licking Izuku’s head and calming him down.
“Listen to what he has to say, yeah?” Hitoshi mumbles, “I promise it’s nothing bad.”
Izuku hesitates, but nods anyways.
“You won’t go back to wherever you were before, though- I can say that I will need to know where you came from, but that can wait. For now, as I said before- I just want you somewhere safe. And the most logical place would be with Hitoshi at the UA dorms. If that sounds okay with you, Izuku.” Aizawa says all this in a soft tone and truthful eyes, watching as Izuku’s eyes widen a considerably large amount.
That sounds like a dream, Izuku thinks.
“...I Can st-stay like th-this..?” Izuku questions, clearly referring to his bunny self.
“For as long as you need to.” Hitoshi says instantly, “I would love to see your face, but we won’t pressure you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with, okay?”
Izuku wants to cry at their kindness, to say that he doesn’t deserve it- but, can’t he be selfish this once? And if they do end up betraying his trust- he can just run away again.
“O-Okay.”
Hitoshi beams, and nods over to Aizawa who looks relieved.
“Thank you for trying, Izuku. I promise we won’t let you down.” The tired man says, standing up after what was about an hour and looking down at the bun.
The green bunny just nods shyly, then glances over to his den with a hesitant glance. He hops over to his little home that he would have to move out of, and shimmies inside. He takes just a moment to soak in his cozy ‘room’, before starting to drag out his precious items. He starts with the blanket- his nice, warm blanket that had little hero prints on it.
Aizawa seems to soften more at the sight of Izuku dragging the blanket out, and he crouches by the bun- gathering the blanket when offered to him into his arms. “I’ll carry whatever you need me to.” He hums, “And I promise I’ll keep your stuff safe.”
Izuku is a little skeptical, but relaxes when Hitoshi bumps his head against Aizawa’s leg in a way that says ‘I’ll keep an eye on him.’
The bunny drags his bunny stuffed animal next, which makes Aizawa get this funny look on his face that Izuku doesn’t see- as if the man is really processing that Izuku is in fact just a kid. He picks up the stuffed bunny with care, earning a look of approval from Hitoshi and a thankful nod from Izuku.
The final things to be dragged out were his notebooks- surprising both Hitoshi and Aizawa when reading “Hero Analysis” on the covers- though it’s very clear to them both that they haven’t been used in a few months. They were dusty and stiff. But looked as if they were very much loved before with every scribble on top and inside.
Aizawa nor Hitoshi ask to read them- not yet, anyways- especially with the nervous look Izuku has on his face when he dragged them out. The tired man just picks them up and offers up a small smile to the bunny who immediately sticks himself to Hitoshi’s side- an indication that he’s ready to go with his comfort kitty by his side.
“Alright, you good to go?” Aizawa questions, standing with all of Izuku’s possessions secure in his arms. When the bunny nods, Hitoshi takes the lead- knowing his way to the school that was right nearby and wanting to stay ahead so Aizawa could remain in the back- keeping an eye on the two furry animals. The kitty made sure Izuku was able to stay at his pace and stay practically hidden by Hitoshi- I mean, seriously, Izuku was basically underneath him again. Hitoshi didn’t mind it at all, Izuku was anxious- it’s reasonable. But yeah, he’s ends up almost tripping over the bun atleast 10 times.
“Shinsou,” Aizawa calls his name before Hitoshi could go through the UA wall’s back door, the kitty looks up at Aizawa with a questioning look, “You’ll have to change back and Carry Izuku, or hide him, I should say. I don’t want your classmates to overwhelm him.”
Izuku blinks at that, he never saw Hitoshi in his human form, right.
The bunny takes a small step back as his comfort kitty nods and separates from Izuku, the purple cat gives Izuku a reassuring look before shifting into his human-self.
And wow. Hitoshi was… Tall.
Like yes, Izuku was a bunny- everyone looked huge. But Hitoshi was most definitely taller than he thought- and most likely very much taller than his own human self.
Hitoshi has to resist laughing at Izuku’s shocked expression, instead just crouching down and opening his arms as an offering. Izuku is quick to take that offer, hopping into Hitoshi’s arms with one graceful jump and immediately snuggling the tall boy with a happy chatter. Hitoshi does laugh this time and lays a very light kiss on the bunny’s head that makes Izuku lean further into his comfort kitty’s- or, uh, comfort human’s warmth.
“Just stay behind me, and if any of them manage to see Izuku I’ll get them off your back.” Aizawa says, making Hitoshi snap his gaze up and flush in embarrassment at the tired man’s amused look. He forgot he was there for a minute.
“Right.” Hitoshi mumbles awkwardly, stepping behind Aizawa and letting him open the door. He trails behind his teacher with Izuku securely in his arms- the bunny seemingly enjoying himself too much being cuddled by a bigger Hitoshi and it made the boy huff fondly.
Too cute.
They manage to sneak into Aizawa’s dorm without any troubles, and the first thing that Izuku does as soon as Aizawa shows him his own room (Not yet decorated) and talked about getting the bunny some hideaways throughout his home- is run across the apartment doing binkies- jumps in the air and dash around happily.
He’s never had anything like this before. His own room- (and pretty much his own apartment because whether Aizawa knows it or not he is taking it over- the moment Aizawa mentioned getting him hideaways it was set in stone.) His own stuff in the future as Aizawa promised to take him shopping- (as much as he didn’t want the man spending money on him, Aizawa promised it was no big deal- he was a hero with a big income, after all.) There’s food he’s free to eat- (Aizawa seemed to do his research, as there was hay in one of his once empty closets and a few healthy bunny treats to go along with it. Yes, his human stomach didn’t transfer over to his bunny one- so he had to watch what he ate.)
Point is, he was getting taken care of.
As much as Izuku dreads when he has to one day- possibly soon- transform back into his human form and tell Aizawa everything that happened to him, he’ll let himself enjoy this.
Because if Aizawa and Hitoshi end up not wanting him when they find out he was weak and just- a Deku, then he won’t get this luxury again.
Izuku squeaks when Hitoshi picks him up before he could start running again, squirming lightly and letting out a squeal when Hitoshi suddenly kisses his tummy.
The bunny whines in embarrassment, sure, he was a bunny- and maybe, just maybe, kisses (...licks), have been very frequent between him and Hitoshi- but never like this. And he’s a little afraid to admit that he enjoys it just as much as he does the kitty kisses, but Hitoshi was human! He was technically human! Is this.. Really okay?
Hitoshi seems to think so, as he continues to give him tummy kisses as the bunny lets out flustered squeaks.
Aizawa wasn’t even in the room any more, which probably explains why he was captured and subjected to such (comforting) torment.
Izuku silently curses himself for letting Hitoshi get so close to him like this, there was no avoiding tickle attacks now. (He really couldn’t help getting so close to Hitoshi when they were both furballs, it was just.. Easy like that. And now the fact that Hitoshi was human- well, it didn’t really make too much of a difference, did it?)
Izuku is finally let go from the kisses when Aizawa walks back in, the bun lets out a dramatic huff and sprawls out onto Hitoshi’s lap- because yes, this is now his throne. Hitoshi has no rights over his own lap any more. Shifting into a human was going to be his mistake.
“Alright, let’s talk a little more and then I’ll have to go shopping.” Aizawa hums, sitting down while eying Izuku in amusement.
The tired man explains to Izuku the UA schedule- in which, right. That’s sinking in now. He was in UA.
Wow. Okay. He’ll freak out about that later.
Aizawa also is married to Present Mic, which Izuku somehow saw coming with how much Hitoshi talking about the loud blonde practically clinging to his Tired Sensei every day. Izuku is a little bit nervous to meet… Hizashi, but he’s fine with the man being around as he used to listen to Present Mic’s radio show. (Plus, in just a week from now, he’s being completely smothered by Hizashi and completely enjoying it.)
(Aizawa seems to enjoy spoiling him too, Hizashi saying something about Izuku and Hitoshi being the pets Aizawa never had. Or in this case, kids with fluffy features.)
Aizawa gets Izuku’s opinion on different things, asking him his favorite color- favorite hero, favorite animal- etc. And Izuku tells him through Hitoshi who still understands the fluffball. This is all just so Aizawa knows what to buy- (along with Hizashi as he is not going shopping alone)- as Izuku can’t come with him. Because y’know, he’s a bunny. But he’s also a very anxious bunny.
The man leaves discussing Izuku possibly meeting class 1-A over the next few days for when he has to talk with Izuku about his past. Better to get all the anxiety driven things over with if he can.
It takes three weeks for Izuku to finally approach Aizawa, willing to tell him about his past and hoping he’s not putting his trust in the wrong place.
But before he approaches the tired man, he approaches Hitoshi first.
The tall boy is lounging on Aizawa’s couch, his sensei was currently at school still- finishing up some office work with Hizashi. Hitoshi came into Aizawa’s apartment with his own given key in order to get away from social situations for a little while and see his ball of fluff.
Hitoshi only had a key because of Izuku, Aizawa didn’t want him in his apartment all the time- one because he of course wanted time with his husband- (which is bullshit because Izuku is there but then again maybe he just wants to spoil the bunny without being seen-) and the other reason 100% being that Hitoshi tended to steal coffee from him. That was unacceptable.
Anyways, Hitoshi was on Aizawa’s couch- scrolling through messages on his phone and waiting for Izuku to come back from the bathroom. Yes, the bunny had his own special toilet in there.
Hitoshi hears the door open to the bathroom first, which isn’t completely odd- the bunny has opened the door on his own before. But it definitely sounded more… Straight-forward. He didn’t hear a bunny falling from a door handle this time.
“Toshi?” A shy voice questions, and Hitoshi looks up from his phone-
Oh.
There’s Izuku, in his human form.
…
Izuku in his human form. Wait.
“Bun?” Hitoshi questions, eyes wide.
The very short boy just nods- and- wow. He was short. Like. Too short. Maybe Hitoshi was just tall- but- did this have to do with the boy’s bunny genes?
Hitoshi takes a moment to soak in everything about how Izuku looks- the very fluffy hair atop his head, his freckles spreading across a baby face, soft green eyes-
...Scars on some of the skin that’s visible.
Shit.
Wait, was that his shirt?
The purple shirt with a cat winking on it- yeah, that was definitely his shirt- way too big for the small frame Izuku has.
“D-do you um, h-have p-pants?” Izuku questions quietly, then pauses- “A-and um, u-underwear?”
Shit, Izuku woke up without his clothes, huh? That or he woke up and the ones he wore were way too small for him- who the hell knows. Point is, the only thing Izuku was wearing was- his shirt.
…
Crap, poor bun.
Wait- he should probably respond, right?
“Oh- oh! God I’m so sorry bun, you surprised me- I-” Hitoshi stands, and Izuku steps back once with a very nervous expression. “I’ll get you what you need, Izuku.”
The tall boy basically dashes out of Aizawa’s apartment, leaving Izuku staring dumbfounded at where Hitoshi had been.
Then he looks down at the shirt he was wearing- and flushes in realization.
But before he can start to regret this, Hitoshi is essentially flying back through the door, shoving the underwear and pants into Izuku’s arms and turning around-
Okay. His comfort human was overly sweet. Of course he’s not commenting on his mistake.
Izuku quickly puts on what was given, eyes softening when realizing the pants were pajama pants. Of course Hitoshi would want him to be comfortable.
“O-Okay, I’m g-good.” Izuku stutters, and Hitoshi turns back to him carefully. “Th-thank you..”
“Yeah- Uh, Yeah!” Hitoshi blinks- “No problem. So you’re uh, you’re cute- no wait- Human, I meant Human- um.”
Izuku bursts into giggles, face reddening sweetly and making Hitoshi almost choke on his own spit.
Oh god, he’s gay. He’s totally gay. This was his gay awakening.
Everything makes sense now.
“I-It’s okay T-Toshi,” Izuku smiles, “...Thank you.” The fluffy haired boy looks away, “You’re n-not so bad y-yourself.. Y’know..”
“Do I take that as a compliment?” Hitoshi questions, a smile now easily making its way onto his face.
“Maybe..” Izuku’s eyes flicker up again to Hitoshi’s, the small boy biting his lip to try and not smile too wide.
“Well Thank you, I think?” Hitoshi snickers, then finally steps forward and hugs Izuku tightly. The short boy lets out a squeak, then melts into the hug- face squshing against Hitoshi’s chest. “It’s good to see you, bun. You’re way more adorable than I could’ve imagined. And your bunny form is pretty hard to beat but...”
“Toshiii…” Izuku whines out, getting more flustered by the second.
“Okay, Okay. Wanna sit down with me?” Hitoshi questions- but pauses- and a mischievous smirk appears on his face that Izuku sees as soon as he looks up. The short boy raises an untrusting eyebrow, then yelps when he’s suddenly lifted off his feet.
“T-Toshi?!” Izuku squeaks, yelping when the taller boy sits down- but with him on his lap. “Wha-?”
“You did say my lap was your throne, so why would you want to sit on the couch- your majesty?” Hitoshi hums, snickering when Izuku’s face reddens like a strawberry.
“I-I Never said that o-outloud!”
“Oh yes you did, the first day you came here bunny.”
“D-did…Did I m-mumble it..?”
“Yup.”
Izuku drops his head onto Hitoshi’s shoulder and whines, and Hitoshi just pats him lightly on head in a mock-comforting way.
“You’re a mean comfort k-kitty.” Izuku mumbles into Hitoshi’s shoulder, making the tall boy freeze.
“...Did you just call me your comfort kitty?”
“....”
“Oh my god that’s adorable.”
“T-Toshi....”
“I’m your comfort kitty, oh my- I’m totally telling Aizawa.”
“D-Don’t tell Sh-Shouta!” Izuku immediately protests, then places a hand over his own mouth when Hitoshi’s eyes widen.
“Did you just call him by his first name???? How much has he been spoiling you?? Oh my godddd-”
“Hitoshi sh-sh-shush!” Izuku baps the top of Hitoshi’s nose, then tries to plug the taller boy’s nose with his fingers to try and get him to stop laughing. It turns into a full play-fight, until eventually Hitoshi is pinned by the short boy and laughing breathlessly on the couch. Izuku is pouting down at him, upset (but not really) that he couldn't get him to stop laughing.
And that’s exactly when Aizawa and Hizashi walk in, the couple freezing at the sight of Izuku and the pair on the couch freezing at the door opening.
“...Izuku?” Aizawa questions, and the boy immediately collapses onto Hitoshi, using him as his shield by tucking into his side. The tall boy just holds him close on pure instinct.
“...Hi ‘zawa.. Zashi…” Izuku mumbles shyly.
“Hey lil listener! It’s good to see your face.” Hizashi smiles widely, then snorts. “Well, half of your face.” He points out, Izuku’s face hidden by Hitoshi and flushing again in embarrassment.
“...I’m assuming this means we need to buy you clothes now, problem child.” Aizawa sighs out fondly, stepping over to the couch and reaching to gently ruffle Izuku’s hair. The boy lets out another squeak and puffs out his cheeks in a pout that makes the two teachers share a look of amusement.
“I-I- b-before we… Do that o-or anything else- U-um.. I want to… I want to tell you all… U-Um.. E-everything… If you’ll l-let me..” Izuku says seriously then, words stuttering with his anxiety.
Aizawa and Hizashi just sit down on the couch when Hitoshi sits up to make room for them, the three giving Izuku an encouraging and reassuring look.
“Of course kid. Take your time though, hm?” Aizawa hums, trying his best to be as soothing as possible- especially when Izuku’s eyes start getting watery at a rather alarmingly quick rate.
Izuku just nods, and starts to tell them how he came to just wanting to live as a bunny.
In the end, after Izuku has his miniature breakdown from reliving things he didn’t want to, there’s relief- as he’s comforted and promised that he’d never have to go back to that life. It’s everything he’s ever wanted- to just be loved and encouraged like this.
Izuku sticks to Hitoshi or to his Dads over the next two weeks of them earning custody over him from his Mother- (It wasn’t that hard.) He accepts the comfort given to him- taking it whenever he can as he hasn’t had this many hugs or forehead kisses- hair ruffles- in a very long time. It was nice with Hitoshi- when he was just a bunny and he got kitty kisses but- this was.. Different. It felt.. Warm.
The boy also turns out to be a bed gremlin, because he’ll be asleep in his own bed then either his Dads or Hitoshi will wake up with him in theirs- clinging to any of them with a peaceful expression.
It was hard to tell the boy that he couldn’t do that. You honestly couldn’t- the boy deserved to be loved like this.
Izuku still frequently changed back into a bunny, running through the tunnels that Momo- (and the rest of the class encouraged her to make- he warmed up to the class after a while enough for them to even do this-) -made and sleeping on the cat beds that Aizawa oddly enough had- (he wanted to get a cat at some point. Maybe a few. But he decided to wait- and he ended up never having the time for a pet. But now.. Maybe Izuku could convince the tired man to get a cat- if only to annoy Hitoshi.) -there was a bed in the ‘living room’- that one he slept on whenever Aizawa and Hizashi graded papers or did anything else- not wanting to be left alone ever. Another bed was in Aizawa and Hizashi’s office at the school- because like hell did Izuku ever want to be left alone at the apartment once he got attached to his new family.
Hitoshi ends up asking Izuku to be his boyfriend- in which Izuku ended up tackling the taller boy and wiggling, overly happily.
This is also how he finds out that he can transform halfway. Bunny ears, Bunny tail, and bunny legs n’ feet. These feet having an oddly large amount of power- as he knocks Hitoshi onto the floor when hugging him and accidentally thumping his feet too hard against the ground.
And his family had already been discussing getting Izuku into the hero course before- but Izuku had been… Insecure, unsure- not thinking he’s worthy to be a hero. He still wanted to just live- and not… Do anything any more. He was going to therapy for that, of course. But there was so much doubt-
But this, along with his family’s encouragement- maybe.. He could be a hero.
Yeah, maybe. Maybe he would try.
