Work Text:
“Are you sure the makeup is necessary?”
Tobio glared from where he was kneeling between Daichi’s legs, a makeup brush frozen in midair. Miniscule glitter flakes drifted to the floor and Daichi winces at the thought of cleaning them up later. “Duh.”
“Duh, of course,” Daichi concedes, closing his eyes and letting the little one continue his makeover. His movements are sloppy and a bit painful - he has to swallow back tears when the brush slips in Tobio’s grip and jabs him in the eye - but he’s more than happy to get his makeup done if that’s what his little wants.
“Done!” Tobio announces and Daichi carefully opens his eyes to see Tobio bouncing on his knees, very happy with his work. Daichi blinks furiously as glitter threatens to fall into his eyes. “So pwetty, Papa! We do rest now!”
“Oh, are you tired?” Daichi asks, hopeful. But Tobio is already crawling back to the makeup kit Yachi had bought him for his birthday.
“No,” Tobio giggles, picking up a tub of bright pink powder. “Do rest of ‘da makesup!”
Daichi sits back in mock defeat, obediently allowing Tobio to slather his face in blush and glitter gloss and even haphazardly drawn eyeliner that Daichi has to remind him to “Be careful, Tobi, Papa still needs to see.”
Daichi reaches for the mirror once the age regressed boy finally announces his makeover is finished but he’s stopped by a glitter-covered hand. “Not yet! Gotta get dwessed.”
“Clothes?” He asks with wide eyes but Tobio is already standing and wobbling over to his closet.
“ Yes , cwothes,” Tobio scoffs in exasperation, as if Daichi should know what he is thinking. “‘S a tea party!”
Daichi’s eyes flicker over to the corner of the room where Tobio’s play table sits. A blanket is draped over top and Tobio’s stuffed animals are currently sitting in the plastic chairs around the table. A vaguely familiar teapot and four tea cups sit in the middle of the table. In fact… Daichi leaned closer. “Tobi. Is that Daddy’s tea set? The very special one that little boys aren’t allowed to touch without permission?”
Tobio just hums as he cards through the clothes in his drawers, not turning around. “Borrow. Papa here so I careful.”
Daichi sighs but decides to allow it this once. Any fight dissolves out of him the moment Tobio turns around with an armful of clothing, dumping it onto the floor in front of Daichi. His mouth falls in surprise and he looks up. “Is this all for me?”
Ten minutes later Daichi finds himself perched on one of the plastic chairs around Tobio’s table holding a tea cup filled with water - Daichi wouldn’t allow anything else in Sugawara’s vintage tea set, too afraid of getting in trouble himself. Tobio is across from him, drinking from an identical cup with a huge grin on his face.
Tobio sets his cup down carefully, his pinky held straight out (“Wike big bro ‘Ru taught me!”). He leans over to his stuffed bunny in the chair next to him and stage whispers, “Papa looks pwetty, huh Bun?”
Daichi knows how he must look and he hides a laugh by drinking from his cup instead. He was allowed to keep his jeans on but Tobio gave him a red striped dress to pull on over top of his clothes as well as a bright green boa feather scarf wrapped around his neck. For the finishing touch he had been gifted a pair of rhinestone-studded sunglasses.
His only saving grace was that Tobio had decided they needed to be matching - the little dressed in shades of blue instead with a yellow boa scarf and smaller, cat-eye sunglasses resting on his nose.
“Well, I think Tobio looks very pretty too,” Daichi tells the stuffed bear to his left, gently knocking his tea cup against its paw. “I’m so glad you agree.”
Tobio happily stims by waving his hands in front of him as he listens to his caregiver’s words, his smile seemingly etched onto his face. Daichi had managed to convince Tobio that they both needed to wear makeup while they were getting dressed up so Tobio was now adorned in the same glittery lipstick and blush that Daichi wore, his blush matching the bright pink powder smeared across his cheeks.
Tobio carefully picks up his tea cup one more time and holds it out to Daichi, who picks up the tea pot and pours him some more water. Tobio sticks out his pinky once more and takes a dainty sip he must have learned from Tooru because it leaves him giggling into the cup. “T’ank you, Papa.”
“You’re very welcome, Tob-”
“Oh? Am I missing out on something?”
Tobio whips around to see Sugawara standing in the doorway, smirking at the sight in front of him. “Daddy! Papa ‘nd I havin’ tea party!” He holds up his cup to prove his point, water lightly sloshing out of the sides and dripping onto the carpet below.
Daichi’s cheeks heat up at the sight of his partner, both from his current state and from the knowledge that Sugawara could see they were using his tea set.
“I can see that!” Sugawara steps inside and catches Daichi’s eye with a raised eyebrow. He sits down at one of the plastic chairs, murmuring an apology to the stuffed cow he takes the place of. “You look beautiful, Tobi, did you do your own makeup?”
Tobio shakes his head but grins at the compliment. “Papa did it. I did Papa’s!” Sugawara turns to face Daichi then, lifting off his huge sunglasses to see the extent of his makeover.
“Oh, wow!” Sugawara gasps, taking his chin in his hand and gently tilting Daichi’s head up and down and side to side. “This is gorgeous. You know, you could make a career out of this.” Daichi snorts lightly and takes his sunglasses back.
Tobio, to his credit, sets his cup down gently before he jumps out of his chair. “I gots to do yours now, ‘nd then you come for tea party wif’ us!” He rushes to the other side of the room to retrieve his makeup kit.
Daichi places his head on his hand and leans toward Sugawara. “Do I really look pretty?”
“Gorgeous,” Sugawara assures him, reaching out to wipe at a stray piece of glitter. “By the way…” He looks down at the table and lifts up one of the empty cups. “Is this my tea set?”
Daichi laughs nervously. “Well, about that…”
“Daddy! It’s makesup time!”
