I love you

Summary:

George loves Dream, so much more than Dream will ever know.

But Dream doesn’t feel the same way. Or does he?

Notes:

hi remember me? HAHHA sorry for lack of updates, a lot of shit has happened in my life. Two relatives of mine passed away recently, but no worried, i have two stories in process of writing rn!

I’ve decided to rewrite The Asylum for those who remember that wreck. The plot will be somewhat the same but better writing I hope.

This is just based off the Are you In love with Your best Friend quiz that Dream did recently.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

I love you.

George whispered, looking at the screen. The icon of his best friend in discord. The picture looked back blankly at him. Mocking him.

I dare you, it seemed to say. I dare you. Tell him those fucking words. You’ve been saying that, everyday you leave a voice call with him. Aren’t you tired? Chasing what you can’t have.

It felt like a circle of nothing. A dog chasing his own tail that was just fading away. A maze with no exit. A wall he created that he couldn’t cross.

I love you.

So easy to say, when the microphone was off.

So easy to say, when Dream wasn’t there.

So easy to say, when he was alone.

It hurt him. So much that he couldn’t say it to him. Because he knew, Dream didn’t feel the same way. Calling him affectionate terms was as empty as calling him ‘bro’ or ‘dude’. Everyday, he would joke around, crack jokes about his false relationship with George.

“We’re like dating, you know? You’re like my boyfriend. We should date.”

George’s heart swells within his chest. Really?

“Just kidding.”

Shattered.

The pandering for fans, George tried it before.

“You’re a simp for me.”

“Oh, you know you love me.”

“I… love you Dream.”

He said the last one on stream before, careful with his tone. He didn’t want it to mean too much. For people to realise. He meant every syllable. It wasn’t from his head, those 3 words came from his heart, towards someone who wouldn’t accept it.

Dream would tell him, everyday. “Hope you’re not too uncomfortable with all of the dating jokes, George. You’re free to date. Those ‘I love you’s and shit, they’re just words.”

George spent nights crying to himself. Screaming into his pillow, ages staring at his computer screen. He hated himself for falling for someone he couldn’t have.

Someone in his grasp, that he simply couldn’t hold onto the way he wanted to. If he confessed, Dream would push him away, so far, he wouldn’t be there anymore.

So he didn’t.

He would rather spend all his time watching Dream live his life from his sidelines, only to be known as his best friend. Then make an attempt and get thrown to the side, a memory of a time of which he screwed up.

But did Dream know?

Did Dream see the way he held back tears when Dream spoke of a girl he was interested in, in Florida?

Did Dream see the way George spoke about their friendship, subtly bringing hints of a relationship, in hope Dream would suddenly realise his feelings?

Did Dream just know how much George hurt every single day, knowing the person he loves didn’t feel the same way.

Stop the DreamNotFound jokes. George longed to say.

But there he was, spending night after night scrolling through fanart on Twitter, holding back tears. He looked at drawings of him and Dream, in domestic scenes. Dream hugging him, them dancing together, a wedding scene.

Then kissing.

Those scenes always got the best of George. A popular thing fan artists drew, but he would never get to feel his lips on Dream’s.

He wanted to wait, for perhaps a moment when Dream would perhaps realise, he felt the same way. But the days flew by in vain.

George knew his heart would always belong to Dream.

It would call out to him, no matter what he does. Dream could accept George’s love, and shatter it a week later, and all pieces would still love him the same. Dream could marry someone else, Dream could gush about her to George. Dream could do whatever he wanted to tear George apart, but it just felt like in the end, nothing would change the way George felt.

Dream was like George’s moon of love. Beautiful, bright, charming, far away and unobtainable.

I love you.

Words that George never said.
