Chapter Text
The sun strained your eyes as you quickly closed them, blinking hard to get rid of the irritation. The sound of waves crashing against shore filled your ears; the ocean was a good ways away, but the field of grass you found yourself in was so perfectly peaceful that the sound was able to pierce all the way to the top.
Propping yourself up on your elbow you were greeted with a familiar sight, that of your neighbour, turned boyfriend and then as of last night fiance. A warm smile spread across his face once your eyes locked with his.
He was lying down, propped up with one elbow holding his head. In his other hand he was holding a flower, one of the many hundreds that covered the hill you two found yourself on. The hill that was so familiar to both of you.
“Good morning sleepy head” he said in a teasing tone
“I don’t think I'll ever get used to that sight” You said as you flopped back down to the ground.
“What do you mean by that?” Cove said. You couldn’t see his face but you knew that he had a stupid smile on it.
“Waking up to see that perfect man; It’s something special”
A deep red blush grew across Cove’s face. “Well I guess you’ll be able to see it whenever you want now” Cove paused. “Unless you changed your mind about what you said last night?”
You sat up sharply to face Cove, the sudden burst of movement took him a little by surprise. “Of course not, I may have been tired from the long day but I wouldn’t just say something like that if I didn’t mean it” You felt a blush grow across your face. You turned away from Cove in order to try and hide it, but it was a little too late. Cove chuckled a little at your outburst.
“Well that’s good to hear, I thought that maybe you would have forgotten about it during your sleep. You were out for a while” Cove said jokingly, trying to raise the mood a little. “But the truth is i was starting to think about asking you the same thing” He chuckled a little and rubbed the back of his head with his hand, the flower that was being held was now stuck in his hair “you just got to it before i had the chance”
You felt your chest tighten as Cove admitted to thinking about proposing to you. Just knowing that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you filled you with emotions, every inch of your body screamed out with adoration for him.
You couldn’t contain yourself any longer, and you threw yourself at Cove, knocking him over onto his back. Without words you kissed him, deeply, passionately and with all the love you could give. A smile spread across Cove’s face as he kissed you back, wrapping his arm around your back to pull you in closer.
“I love you so much” You said as you stared down at Cove, his cheeks starting to turn red.
“I love you too” He replied with a wide smile on his face “I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else” Cove had a soft smile on his face as he looked deeply in your eyes. You could read Cove quite easily after spending so much time with him, he means everything he is saying.
“You are way too nice to me Cove” You said as you buried your face in his chest, he would usually tighten up and get flustered when you did this, but Cove fully accepted it this time.
“Everyone need somebody to look out for them, Even that Jeremy guy”
“God don’t remind me of that guy, you’re gonna ruin the moment”
“Yeah I can’t say i’m a fan either, but it’s not like i hate the poor guy” A silence fell between you and Cove, you simply lay on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. Cove’s heart was calming to listen to as his chest raised and fell with his breathing.
A couple minutes passed before Cove broke the silence once again “I hate to ruin a good moment between us, but we should probably head back home soon” Cove had a point, also you were pretty hungry after everything you did yesterday and sleeping on the hillside
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. But before we go we need to decide on something” you said as you climbed off of Cove. Cove looked at you with a curious look on his face. “Are we gonna tell our parents about our engagement, I mean we’re about to go off to college. Shouldn’t we focus on that for a while??” Cove frowned slightly in thought at this.
“hmm...I see what you mean, college can get pretty intense, we might not be able to spend as much time together during the semester” Cove paused slightly, the frown fading along with the pause “But... I still think we should let everyone know, it’s not like we have to get married right now. We can stay engaged for a while”
“Yeah, it’s common for people to be engaged for a while before getting married anyway...i think” you replied, Cove chuckled slightly at your reply “Also i’m terrible at keeping secrets, your dad found that out the hard way” Your comment about the $20 incident got another chuckle out of Cove.
“He really is never going to live that down is he?” Cove said, still laughing slightly
“Not in a million years” you replied, chuckling along as well. A silence fell between You and Cove, Not an awkward silence, you were both comfortable enough with each other to allow dead air to linger.
“Well” Cove said breaking the silence “should we tell them separately or together?” He asked, as he stood up from the grass, flower still stuck in his hair.
“How about we get something to eat first, then we can worry about that after” you said as you stood up and plucked the flower out of Cove’s hair. You started walking towards your house “Come on now my Fiance, Food awaits” you said in a sarcastic tone. Cove let out a sharp breath as he jogged for a second to catch up with you.
“You better not be one of those gold diggers i’ve heard about” he replied in an equally sarcastic tone.
