“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji says, “thank you.”
Exhausted, Wei Wuxian rubs dirt and grime from his eyes. Morning light filters through his old, moth-eaten curtains, and he realizes with a start that he’s worked through the night again. “Don’t thank me,” Wei Wuxian says, the words clumsy on his thick, parched tongue. “I’ve done nothing.”
Lan Wangji fixes him with a dry look, but hands him a cup of water. His silence speaks volumes, and abashed, Wei Wuxian drinks.
“I just want you to be you again,” he says, once his throat is wet enough that his voice no longer rasps. “I want to.”
Lan Wangji comes to Wei Wuxian with a request; Wei Wuxian agrees to help, and their relationship grows around them.
