The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Summary:

After losing the love of his life, Thomas Dupain resorted to taking out his anger on the only part of her he had left.

Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one trying to use Marinette as a punching bag.

It's a good thing her friends are there to hold her up, right?

Right...?

Chapter 1: Prologue - or, the one where he's left behind

He knew not to push harder when he heard the words that no man wants to hear - “Thomas, this- thing, whatever we’re doing,” she began, words heavy with exasperation, “it’s not working, is it?”

And yet, he still did.

“We can make it work, Sabine”, he pleaded, looking for anything to help sway her mind.

“We shouldn’t, and you know that full well,” she spoke feebly, her voice hitching on each word, “You can raise her. You’ll make a good father, and- and- I’ll move back! With my family. Where I belong.”

“It doesn’t have to be like this! We could live normally! We could have a fa- “

“No, Thomas! It's for the best!”, she yelled, making her way through the door before he could make out the tears threatening to spill from her eyes, “Goodbye.”

Sabine rushed out of the bakery, her suitcase trailing behind her as she meandered through the oncoming hoards of commuters. Flagging the nearest taxi with her free hand, she took one last look back at the place she had called home for half a decade.

She slid into the taxi, doing her best to push to the back of her mind the events of the last month.

“To Charles de Gaulle, please.”

As the engine roared to life, Sabine prepared to say goodbye to her home for the last time.
