Work Text:
Adrien walked out into the rain as he saw Marinette look towards the road as a red car drove by, holding a black umbrella.
Wait.
A really familiar black umbrella.
The one he had given to her when he'd come to explain himself about the whole chewing gum incident!
"Wow, you've still kept it for this long?" Adrien asked.
Marinette froze.
"Marinette?"
Marinette turned around as she began stumbling and stuttering on her words. Adrien didn't mind. He'd gotten used to it, and honestly? It was a bit endearing and cute.
"--So I can give it back to you!" Marinette handed him the black umbrella, smiling a nervous smile.
Adrien smiled back.
"You'll need it to get home," he said, while gently pushing the umbrella away.
She smiled.
"That's not wrong." She wistfully said, while turning around. She jolted as a sleek black car showed up.
Adrien looked at the black car where Gorilla was going to pick him up. He honestly didn't want to be alone, so he asked Marinette.
"If not, we can drop you off!"
Marinette turned and smiled as she linked her hand into his, electricity coursing through his body. The umbrella suddenly closed on them as they both laughed, and Adrien brought the umbrella up again.
Marinette, deep in thought, suddenly asked him.
"Since we have an umbrella, do you want to walk home together?"
"I—" Adrien stopped short when Gorilla swung the car door open and the wave of responsibilities came crashing down on him. Was it his fault that he just wanted to dance in the rain?
"I have Chinese lessons. You know how demanding my father is," not wanting to end on a low note, Adrien continued.
"See you at school tomorrow?"
Marinette nodded,
"Of course, Adrien."
He smiled at her as he ran towards his car, wanting to get one last good look of her when suddenly—
BAM! His head crashed on the car's roof, and he clutched it in response.
Marinette giggled, a harmonious sound contrasting with the gentle rain.
He laughed back, and waved at her as the door slammed shut.
Adrien sighed, turning his head to look at the blue-haired girl walking. And then suddenly she started laughing while dancing and twirling around the rain. And she looked beautiful, with the rain illuminating her features even more.
Adrien smiled. Maybe one day he'd learn to let the storm pass and dance in the rain.
